I'd be okay with the lack of boots if they also decided that gloves were so FE13, but that is just a silly design choice to me. If you burst out of your boots, you should burst out of your gloves, too! But Kamui is fighting on spiky ground, cold sewer floors, frozen lakes and canyons of sharp rock.
