bullshitter as in empty promises--or something more dubious? one of my favorite aspects of sanders is that he isn't just talk, he's been there. he's fought personally for civil rights, civic rights, etc. that is rare. when it comes to empty promises, i would argue that you're probably right. it takes more than one person and sanders wouldn't have gotten the support that he needed in the government.

of course any presidential result involving sanders is merely speculation, but i think sanders would have defeated trump.

I personally think bullshitter in terms of lofty goals and not having much in terms of policy, or at least a working policy. I personally think Trump is a bullshitter because of this and not purely because of lies. But I mean, there are two degrees here - and Bernie's "bullshit" aspect is very much nothing in comparison to the Donald.

I very much follow Bernie because he is incredible as far as politicians go. I do not feel comfortable with him as a president because he really didn't seem to have a plan, but I love watching his videos and reading the things he says. In his own words, Trump is a bullshitter because he lacks ideology (although that's the BEST CASE scenario), whereas Bernie has a huge sense ideology.

Trump vs Sanders is interesting, but in the end I think that Sanders would fail to appeal to Clinton's base in the same way that Clinton failed to appeal to Sanders' base. That's definitely a generational battle, but the argument could also be that older Democrats would vote Democrat anyway (like older Republicans voted Trump out of party loyalty) and more young people would vote, but maybe we'd see more third party votes to Johnson/Stein because of dirty socialists. Or some of the other weird things you can drag out against Sanders.

why do you feel this way? what makes this the end, rather than a slump in the road?

If/When Trump fails, then I doubt someone like Billy bush would be able to run in our lifetimes. Jeb is actually about as exciting as a flaccid dick, and it would be a miracle if he gets past the primaries in 8 years. Chelsea Clinton would probably never run, and especially now with Clinton's loss, simply because one way or another people will get tired of the Clintons.

i can see how my words come off this way, but what bernie spoke about was revolution. revolution comes with a bit of political infrastructure dismantling. i agree that it should happen, but probably not to the extent that my earlier tone makes it seem. i don't think our system is malfunctioning, i think it is broken.

i can't get on board with this. she's a member of a political dynasty and was involved in destroying the chances a fellow democrat had to secure her supposed easy victory. if oligarchic is too strong a word for you, can we instead agree that she was machiavellian to a fault? to the point where faith has been lost in the democratic party for lots of people?

Machiavellian I can get on board with to some extent, if only because the system as it stands encourages machiavellian techniques.

It's really a shame that we can't get another Obama. Again, we can all say what we will about Obama but he ran a very clean campaign, and doesn't have "voting in favor of the Iraq War" on his record.

indeed. :(

It's complete insanity. I'd like to add e) jews control the media. I've been so bored all break because all my friends are in grad school and I can only fly out to Maryland from Arizona like twice a year (my friends take road trips quite a bit) so I've been observing/participating in stuff outside of SF (since I don't have to put effort towards school for like 2 weeks) and it's really some of the strangest shit I've seen.

One of the many reasons I'm libertarian.

You are not a libertarian. At least I so hope. You might agree with a lot of the policies they have been promoting over the last few years, but that does not make you a libertarian. You need to agree with core ideology like the non aggression principle, self ownership, homesteading, or god forbid you actually think Ayn Rand was right. If anything you are a republican in the vein of Goldwater, which I guess makes you a republican without a party(though Trump seems to be ideologically very similar).

Makes me a libertarian, in that case. Or to be accurate, a Conservatarian.

i don't think a political dynasty encompasses only the presidency.

your test results came back: you are hiv...aladeen.

yep haha. i feel that very much.

Going forward, US politics are likely to get more tribalistic.

Compromise will become a thing of the distant past. After all, why would you compromise with those whom you view as a threat to everything you stand for?

The culture war fought through politics will continue.

... I was remaining neutral, but I can't anymore. What in the holy mother of all that is good!? Seriously. This is ridiculous.

What?

People say they want Republicans and Democrats to work together, and this is what you get. I didn't even know anti-vaccing was on the agenda. I thought Jill Stein was the anti-vaccing candidate.

I was pretty much "wait and see" until I saw that he had a climate change skeptic on his board.

I seriously understand why someone would (intentionally) be skeptical of climate change - oil money is money. I never understood why people continue to push an anti-vax culture. Can someone enlighten me on the money to gain from this? Do they literally want to spread a plague? Or do they want to shame academics? It's fucking crazy.

Also, I'm gonna peruse this later but from what I've perused it's interesting. A few things I've read are that Trump has some real estate in Russia, and that Putin actively pushed for Trump's presidency.

Well. . .

“The President-elect enjoyed his discussion with Robert Kennedy Jr. on a range of issues and appreciates his thoughts and ideas,” Trump transition spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement. “The President-elect is exploring the possibility of forming a commission on autism, which affects so many families; however no decisions have been made at this time.

“The President-elect looks forward to continuing the discussion about all aspects of autism with many groups and individuals,” she added.

FUCKING. REALLY.

This pisses me off on so many levels! First, vaccines are the reason why shit like smallpox is a goddamn memory. Second, that study was debunked a long time ago, and Wakefield had his medical license revoked. Third, for every fuckwit that doesn't vaccinate themselves/their kids, they put people who can't get vaccines in danger (like me).

In other words, this validates a group of people who have no issues putting the lives of other, vulnerable people in danger because of unfounded fear (whether it be of autism or the things IN the vaccine). They'd be pissed if someone murdered their child, so why should my family have to worry about a preventable disease possibly killing me?

why are you saucing from buzzfeed?

A dossier, compiled by a person who has claimed to be a former British intelligence official, alleges Russia has compromising information on Trump. The allegations are unverified, and the report contains errors.

unverified is a GIANT red flag. cmon this is intro journalism stuff.

also what exactly did the russian hacks accomplish?

Trump personally might be bitter over the fact that Barron shows symptoms of autism. Considering it can be linked to older fathers and epigenetic changes, he probably doesn't want to admit his DNA isn't "the best".

That or they truly believe that regressing to a former time when people died from polio is a good thing.

i'll be calling him president piss now

David Cameron got so much shit for allegedly sticking his dick in a dead pigs mouth at a dining club party as a comparison, and that truthfully was mainly rumours.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piggate

If it is actually substantiated with video at some point Trump would never live this down.

Bad Trump. Bad. Bad boy.

Seriously, I am not happy about the anti-vaxxer appointment. Had a feeling this would happen, was hoping it wouldn't.

Buzzfeed and some idiotic Republican politician falling for this is fine, if hilariously cringe-worthy. The fact that, if this is true, it got all the way to the CIA without being debunked is disgusting and further fuels my descent into suicidal misanthropy.

This seems like a pretty biased site just from looking around it. Not to say any others wouldn't be.

However, it's really unlikely 4chan had anything to do for it - it has been supposedly in progress since like August and such posts have not been made since the last few days. Rick Wilson himself also denies that his source comes from 4chan, from that article, for what that's worth.

If you want to talk about motives I would grant you that it would probably be more likely to be revenge from intelligence agencies who see that Trump is trying to undermine them.

The story was originally broke by Carl Bernstein, one of the reporters on the Watergate scandal, he has some credibility.

CARL BERNSTEIN: It came from a former British MI-6 intelligence agent who was hired by a political research -- opposition research -- firm in Washington who was doing work about Donald Trump for both Republican and Democratic candidates opposed to Trump. They were looking at Trump's business ties. They saw some questionable things about Russians, about his businesses in Russia. They, in turn, hired this MI-6 former investigator. He then came up with additional information from his Russian sources. He was very concerned by the implications of it. He then took it to an FBI colleague that he had known in his undercover work for years. He took it to this FBI man in Rome who turned it over to the bureau in Washington in August. And then a former British ambassador to Russia, independently, was made aware of these findings and he took the information to John McCain, Senator John McCain of Arizona, in the period just after the election, and showed it to McCain -- additional findings. McCain was sufficiently disturbed by what he read, to take it to FBI Director James Comey himself personally. They had a five-minute meeting. The two men, very little was said. McCain turned it over to him and is now awaiting what the FBI’s response is to that information. Source: http://mediamatters.org/video/2017/01/10/veteran-journalist-carl-bernstein-intel-chiefs-presented-trump-claims-russian-efforts-compromise-him/214971

It doesn't really matter if the story is false if the way he reacts to it is a meltdown, though:

I don't really know what to say about this whole ordeal. If intelligence has been working on this since August I really wish they would've said something before the election was completed. I get that they wanted to verify what of it was true if anything but at least saying something about it would've given the voters more information to base their votes on. Instead this isn't revealed until 10 days before Trump becomes president. I watched the interview on I think it was CNN this morning about it and the agencies said, almost verbatim:

"Now that the election is over we can now focus on this case."

I hate to say it but I think this case would have been better focused on before the election so we wouldn't have to deal with a train wreck for 4 to 8 years. Of course, that being said, we might have been in for a train wreck regardless, and maybe that's why it wasn't focused on before.
