Real Snooze, err, News

A few good points come up on this article that anyone, regardless of what s/he thinks about his government, could cultivate for herself/himself. And it kinda hammers home what an erstwhile pro wrestling promoter turned podcaster had said not too long ago about being made to FEEL, not THINK.

Yeah... no. I get what they're trying to do here but it all falls flat because it's effectively equating really actually stupidly and fake news that only morons believe with reports that have credible sources or facts. A Sean Hannity segment where he's sucking up to Trump with Deep State ramblings about how the FBI going rogue and attacking Donald Trump for no reason or most of Breitbart's articles should not be held to the same standard as the NYT report back in October on Trump's Tax Fraud. It's effectively saying that it's ok for Sean Hannity and Breitbart to lie and misrepresent the truth because "everything is fake news".

Mainstream media is definitely in favor of the status quo and they have their biases but you cannot write it all off as fake news because it removes a key component that should be taken in consideration when absorbing information: credibility. Take that away and what you get is people who religiously believe what the shitty party of Fox News spews, Breitbart, Daily Caller and other conservative sites spew when it's been documented that conservatives are the biggest sharers of fake news and their leadership have been brazen hypocrites during the Trump presidency.

Fast food is nice, but I would not serve that to guests at the White House for an official visit. To me, that just comes off as cheap, disrespectful, and rude. Can you imagine Trump serving Pizza Hut to foreign dignitaries during the next head of state visit? We would be ridiculed as a laughing stock if we were not already.

For more food news, the Department of Agriculture is throwing out Obama regulations on healthier school diets to save our failing dairy industry, resulting in feeding our kids crap.

That is pretty interesting, although it is also a bit sad at the same time that we as a people are more easily moved by passion than logic.

I read this article today about a person engaging with extremists. It is pretty cool that she is able to befriend some white supremacists and some of them eventually left the alt right.

. . .man, did she win a Badass of the Year award for that?  Because she totally should've.

It's a good reminder that people who don't share your ideologies are still people, and to treat them as such (like that demographic known as "Trump voters").  Not everyone will understand, but one less misinformed person is one less misinformed person.

Yeah, we need more stories like this in the media and it would help bridge the divide. The article made me feel a little more hopeful and optimistic. Just as the media has used negative emotions to generate more views, I think they can also try use positive emotions to repair the damage. I do not think positive emotions are as good at generating passion and excitement as immediately as negative emotions like anger and hate, but I think it is worth a try.

So how's the shutdown going for you now? I heard at the start of it that the federal government could continue to operate till the 18th, then later that they might make ends meet for another week. So how are things looking now?

Also, good luck with the trans ban.

Acting AG says Mueller probe is close to being complete

6 mass shootings in the course of 4 days, we're on our way to breaking the our one per day record folks.

Bolton doing Bolton things because it's all Bolton does. Dude loves war.

@Shoblongoo How about: She's one of the Dems that Wall Street's dogs find "acceptable" as president while they fear Sanders and Warren?

Harris has put on a good show in some of the recent Senate hearings like the Kavanaugh debacle and if she does up getting the nomination after the primaries, I hope her presidency is more a reflection of her recent efforts rather than her past.

*watching best damn Iowa town hall performance I’ve ever seen* Alright. I’m sold on Kamala Harris 2020. Naysayers—talk me out of it.

I am not totally against her being in the White House, but I have some nitpicks.

I remember reading her stance on marijuana several years ago and I think she was either indifferent or opposed the legalization of marijuana.

In her recent senate hearing with Kavanaugh, I was extremely disappointed at her when she wanted Kavanaugh to take some stupid lie detector test. I would not be opposed to lie detectors if they actually worked, but since it has been proven time and time again that it is nothing more than pseudoscience, I do not approve of any politician representing my state to sprout bullshit like that, and least of all from a Democrat.

And on the topic of Kamala Harris, this whole Twitter thread paints a pretty dire picture.

As Tarrasque has said, her recent efforts are pretty good by US standards, but she has a pretty dodgy record on some things and the fact that Wall Street is fine with her is a major red flag for me personally.

coercing students into attending class...interesting solution. i am relieved she's passionate about education, but what an unbelievably blind approach to the issue. it takes longer, but what if she started making schools better? the top-down approach--that is, by force-- is easiest. but, is it the most effective? the healthiest way to get students to attend? will it get them to want to learn?

those are solutions she should be seeking.

kamala ain't the one. :/

this is different lol. like, going to school is already legally required. truancy is already illegal too. most people also recognize the importance of education and don't need the threat of prosecution to attend. what she did was a misuse of power--she also failed to mention if those students even did better or not. these are just soundbites, though.

did she need to threaten to prosecute parents to show them the sorts of safety nets that were available? what was the point?

I honestly don't understand how so many people in the US can be opposed to single=payer healthcare, considering that it is demonstrably cheaper and more effective than the current system.

In other news, the sorry excuse for an administration lifted sanctions from a Russian Oligarch. If you had any doubts that the current Republican leadership should be considered traitors, you underestimate the fucking Turtle.

does there not exist limits in achieving this goal?

Even more bizarre was the GoFundMe for the wall in my opinion. Imagine that: conservatives giving money to the government willingly for a national project.

Not for a good reason, of course, but it blows the mind.

Yes but as I said, "anything that resembles forcing education on the masses". Resembles, as in, even just efforts meant to ENCOURAGE or make education more ACCESSIBLE to people would be perceived or spun as the "system forcing to think how they want you to" because you gotta remember that Conservatives love to claim that most professors are liberal because that's the education system is meant to turn you into another libtard. In other times the general public may think "it's for their own good" and "Education is important" but conservatives are just on another level of stupid these days that Education to them is just another word for "Liberal Indoctrination" to them.

The most vocal conservatives of today aren't logical, they're more interested in hate and white supremacy. Take the confederate flag for example which they defend to the death and have a tantrum whenever there's talk of getting rid of confederate symbols. They'll claim the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery and that the flag and all the confederate symbolism is just "heritage, history we're proud of, it isn't racist or had anything to do with slavery and yet, from the words of the flag's designer:

Quote

While we consider the flag which has been adopted by the senate as a very decided improvement of the old United States flag, we still think the battle flag on a pure white field would be more appropriate and handsome.

Such a flag would be a suitable emblem of our young confederacy, and sustained by the brave hearts and strong arms of the south, it would soon take rank among the proudest ensigns of the nations, and be hailed by the civilized world as THE WHITE MAN'S FLAG.

As a people, we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause...

The end of the GOP cannot come soon enough, that's what their focus is as opposed to making sure the federal workers affected by the shutdown get payed. McConnell needs to be destroyed.
