eclipse
THIS IS WHAT RNG ABUSE IS FOR! . . .but at that point, I'd probably go for a Lethality proc, because it's a lot easier than trying to get around those stats.
Xtremekiwi
I'd say that Fire Emblem Sacred Stones has, borrowing a term used in Alkydere's Let's Play Advance Wars Dual Strike, something called "Difficulty Tuna", where the difficulty is mostly benigh except for a few levels where it jumps out and slaps you across the face before heading back under. This level is a bitch and a half on vanilla FE8 HM, let alone with massively boosted enemy stats. Now if only the rest of the game had difficulty like this level does, it would be actually fun in a masochistic way to go through.
TheMoniker
Suggestion: Tank out the staff and Bolting uses of Vigarde so he'll have nothing left! ...That's all the help I can give.
Emperor Hardin
As powerful as Vigarde is, he has no other offense once the bolting runs out. That is if you were willing to sacrifice characters. Also if the GBA AI is smart enough to trade weapons, but I doubt that.
Nintales
A little lifesaver tip for Klokky-kun : AI will always prioritize Simmons, for both status staves, ans attacks. Which means you can soak bolting and berserk uses. The only issue being of course Rennac. You have to either bring Eirika, either ready the important money to bribe him with Saleh. (Grind him beforehand so he doesn't get wrecked by bolting.)

Though that would be an awesome feature, AI that could trade a weapon between each other, so instead of attacking with an iron sword, one can trade and use a Killing Edge. entrall spearmen
I'm stupid. I just realized I was signed in the entire time. Gg me Thracian units can also buy weapons. Ran into that on a super thracia runthrough
Klokinator
I was going to just play the next chapter, but after playing two turns of it, I gave up and decided to powerlevel two needed units, which also presents us with a new poll! [spoiler=MORE BORING GRINDING OF DENSITY] So yeah, this guy wants some levels. He's a pretty great unit barring the kinda bad SKL. Even then, he's definitely in the top tier and would be a lot better if I had just used him more. He even does okay against the first floor boss of the Tower! Now, at this point the poll says he deserves to be a Hero, and Hero DOES have 6 movement compared to the Warrior's 4, but... Look at the difference in caps. Ephraim is clearly acing the fuck out of STR/SPD/DEF, and losing badly in SKL, and SKL is the only stat the Hero can specialize in. Thus, I have concluded that Warrior is the best class given his growths. I'll just have to use a little trick I know that's doable in vanilla FE8 to cap his SKL at the Ruins. Some other misc levels before the main course... Anyway, next we have... Cormag... who eats damage like a black man at a chicken buffet HOLY SHIT I AM SO SORRY I CAN'T EVEN Man, he gets really good levels though. I think his DEF growth is either 0% or close to 0% though, so I really have to keep him away from anyone with a melee weapon. Fado is also close to hitting 20/20. Best unit on the team right there. Too bad I couldn't get this glorious devil until halfway into the run but damn, he kicks ass! Aaaaand maxed! This guy is going to be the damage dealer against all fliers, I can taste it already. I don't think there's really any comparison here, but I'll put up a poll anyway. I feel like the far better SPD cap, the sword usage, the better movement, and the slightly better DEF makes Ranger the superior choice, but what do you guys think? Vote above! Person123
Fado's gonna dominate endgame. Assuming you get that far. Edited August 12, 2015 by General Ciraxis
Klokinator
Fado is so great that I decided to give him his own theme song. Not all heroes wear capes. But this one definitely does. Xtremekiwi
Okay, I was NOT aware that weapon trading among enemies was a thing. Then again, I've never played Thracia before, so...yeah (Given that in PoR and RD enemies only traded healing items). Oh yeah, and ranger is obviously the superior choice. Nintales
I'd say sniper though. Due to your settings, lots of ennemies are likely to have 90 Avo. Sure strike guarantees you to hit these jerks.

Upside-DownFish
Let's look at our poll choices Footlocked unit that has worse caps than ranger Better than sniper in pretty much every way, but has a shit animation #2 with a not shit animation Gee I wonder which one is going to win

ChefGuevara
You'd think that after all the destruction he's caused Captain Phantom would get a promotion I mean as of now He's a lower rank than general Seth Edited August 13, 2015 by Livin La Vida Glaceon
Klokinator
I'd say sniper though. Due to your settings, lots of ennemies are likely to have 90 Avo. Sure strike guarantees you to hit these jerks. You realize Surestrike is basically taking your current level and just adding that % to your hitrate right? If you're level 20, you get a 20% chance for surestrike to activate. If you're level 1... it's 1%. The only good thing about it is if you have a 0% chance to hit, you still have a small chance to activate surestrike. dfgjgjfgkg is the only possible good name for a poll I'm glad you agree. YES NOMAD TROOPER CONFIRMED I voted for Ranger but in my heart I hoped Nomad Trooper would get a high vote count NEVERMIND CHANGED MY VOTE THIS IS IMPORTANT I didn't expect it to win. Klok I beg you to hack in Nomad Troopers if it wins the poll. Here's the thing, I figured if it DID win, I was totally gonna hack it in. I mean, it's easy as cakey. Except, apparently the randomizer breaks roms so FEditor can't work with them, so this actually won't happen now. I really did try tho :( You'd think that after all the destruction he's caused Captain Phantom would get a promotion I mean as of now He's a lower rank than general Seth But it's Great Knight Seth, not General Seth. However, you have a fair point if we look at General L'Arachel. Anyway, welcome to part 1 of chapter whateverthefuckwe'reon! [spoiler=ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL] Due to the fact that his defenses suck shit, I gave him the Dragonshield. He really needed it. At this point in the game, even with it, he eats ~20~ damage per enemy hit. Thank goodness his RES is pretty good. Other than DEF, his stats are like, REALLY REALLY GOOD. Some quick levels and shit before the next chapter. I gave him a bunch of swords to train his sword rank up and get decent levels while he was at it. And here are all of the good units. THE BOULDER is still our RES-tank, and Siren is beaten by nobody in the STR department. Fado of course is the overall MVP, and Franz is... horrible RES-wise and godly everywhere else. The big issue is that most of my units have really poor MOV stats. Oh well! Ignoring the boring setups for the chapter, we start off by finding out that absolutely nothing on this chapter can touch Fado. Fado's solo adventure amirite? This is actually a perfect levelup for THE BOULDER. Okay, so he can take a LITTLE damage. But for real though, only a little bit. (I can't wait for FE8CM and third tiers and badass shit omg) It was a decent, if fruitless, effort. Oh huh I get Rennac on this chapter, or rather his replacement. I wonder what sort of badass uber-unit he will turn out to b- I want to die. Okay, but for real now, he's alright but growths will make or break a unit, and at this point my roster is pretty full of superhuman badasses. The real issue is that normally L'Arachel (Eirika) can recruit him, but she sucks shit in this version and wastes a slot if I bring her. So instead, I'm just gonna have to pay the 9,980 gold to recruit him with Saleh. SIGH. I don't really even want him, I'd rather just steal the Member Card but LOL NO ROGUE CUZ IM DUMB. Neat. Also, 20 RES is sure nice to have. If this was FE8CM though, any thunder magic would be effective VS armors, fire VS horses, and wind VS fliers. That DEF tho. I really can't afford to take any hits, but luckily Pornmag is really good at dodging things. And then Tethys gets items from mooks she kills. lawl At about turn 3 is when those fucking status staves start getting annoying. Luckily none of them could ever possibly hit my army of mostly low-RES units, right? Right? Who says the Unlock staff is useless??? Also, this is the part of the run where I made a pretty big mistake, which I'll point out later. Ouch, stop eating damage like a black man at a chicken barbecue OMG IM SO SORRY But for real now, 19% hitrate. Why. Fuck you. Thank god THE BOULDER is still here for cleanup doody! Look how much damage that goddamn soldier dealt. Lute is 2HKO'd by literally any physical weapon user by this point in the game. Well, except for Fighters, because... dat STR. LURCHEL USED TEH TUFF ARMER! TUFF ARMER WAS SOUPER EFFEKTIVE! Nice try. Next time, shine your shoes before you apply the beeswax. Syrene disappoints me as usual by being the first person hit by a status stave. What's worse is Franz only has A SINGLE POINT OF RESISTANCE and he still hasn't been targeted or hit by a status staff yet. I'm honestly getting pretty lucky with these. Keep in mind there's a collective 15 uses worth of status staves on this map, and we've only seen 5 attempts so far. Don't worry, Syrene. I fixed your fuck-up. Good job, Ephraim! COME ON, SALEH! IT'S A FUCKING KNIGHT FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! THEY'RE WEAK TO MAGIC YOU DAFT CUNT! Oh, well it's nice to see the game designers had the foresight to put Rennac's recruitment cost inside a chest. Wasn't that sweet of them? AW COME ON, TWICE IN A ROW?? It's FE8 Luna for fuck's sake, you don't even really have to TRY, and it will miss you! Get... SKL... and everything else too. God. Damnit. Neat. /uses it to repair three iron weapons Remember when I mentioned earlier having Fado unlock that room to the chests was a big mistake? It's because he's supposed to be restoring people to the west while THE BOULDER restores people to the east. It's cool though, I'm sure I can get him over there soon to restore the- ..............fuck. Well at least I know what's in these chests for when I start my next run!
