For the third week, we’re going to vote and discuss on the best class for Felicia, the clumsy maid. She’s quite renowned for her fighting skills, so shall we take a look at that?

One of the reasons Felicia has more flexibility in class choices is due to her fairly strong Mag, which allows her to either serve as a healer or as a magic user. However, there’s a special Hidden Weapon for Felicia that basically serves as a Levin Sword-- its damage is dependent on Mag. With that in mind, maybe Felicia has some hopes for a purely physical class as well!

The format for this post is similar as that of last week: The following spoiler tags will mostly contain information regarding Felicia. For this week, I’ve added the Pair Up bonuses Felicia provides within each class, and modified the Predicted Stats for level 20, 30, and 40. As there’s quite a bit of information, I wouldn’t suggest reading all of it, but only looking through what you deem necessary. I’d advocate the use of Ctrl+f to target specific information. Also, a lot of information is shown through attachments, so you'll have to click on it to be able to read the text. If you already know the necessary information, there’s no need to go through it; this information is here simply for your convenience.

(Also, I’m only human. If there are any mistakes within the information, please tell me so that I may correct it.)

Without further ado: Which is the best class for Felicia?

[spoiler=Information Regarding the Marriage/Buddy Seals]

Information Regarding the Marriage/Buddy Seals

I’m not actually going to go over the really general information, since I’m pretty sure most of you know about it already. But if you have no idea what these seals are, check out the items page or this post. Anyhow…

  • Nishiki, Flannel, Azura, and Mozume provide access to their secondary class trees, as their starting class trees are unique to them (and in some cases, their children).

(The credit for the following bullet points go to Astrophys, who I copied the wording from, and the other SF members on the Marriage Seals post that clarified this issue.)

  • If there is no primary class tree overlap between the characters, the simplest case scenario plays out: They both get each other’s primary class trees.

  • If the characters share each other’s primary class trees, they get each other’s secondary trees.

  • If a spouse’s (or buddy’s) primary class tree is the same as the character’s secondary class tree, the character does not receive any class tree.

    • There are certain exceptions to the last rule, but they mainly involve the Avatar.

If you’re still confused, let me use Felicia as an example to try and clarify matters!

  • Let’s say Felicia marries Nishiki. Nishiki’s secondary class tree is Spellcaster, so Felicia would receive the Spellcaster tree.

  • Let’s say Felicia marries Kaze. There is no primary class overlap between the two characters, so Felicia would receive the Ninja tree.

  • Let’s say Felicia marries Jakob. Both of these characters’ primary class tree is Rod Knight. Thus, Felicia would receive Jakob’s secondary class tree-- Cavalier. (The vice versa would apply, in which Jakob would receive the Mercenary tree.)

  • Let’s say Felicia marries Lazward. Felicia’s secondary class tree is Mercenary, and Lazward’s primary class tree is Mercenary. Although Lazward also has the Ninja tree, Felicia does not receive this; she receives no new class trees from Lazward.

If you have any questions, shoot me a PM or leave a reply on the original post. The Marriage Seals post did a pretty good job of explaining the complexities, so feel free to check out that thread if you’re still confused.

[spoiler=Rules, Notices, & Clarifications]

Rules, Notices, & Clarifications

Rules

  • Please be respectful! This is a huge given, but I still see people break it all the time. Don’t be arrogant-- your opinion is important, but hardly the end-all-- and please don’t be a troll.

  • I don’t want these polls to serve only for people who have played the game. Therefore, please be careful with spoilers. As we’re discussing classes, I’m assuming that most people are fine with gameplay spoilers. However, this does not guarantee that people are fine with story spoilers as well, so if you must bring them up, make sure to tag them as spoilers.

    • If you’re tagging story spoilers, leave an explanation. Many people may assume that you simply tagged it as a spoiler because it was a long post, or because it was related to gameplay. Clarify what exactly you’re tagging-- it doesn’t take that many words.

Notices

  • In the optional poll, Leo placed second and Nyx placed third. As such, Leo will receive three additional votes, and Nyx will receive one.

  • Sakura received zero votes, and as such, were eliminated from this week’s optional poll. As it has been proven that the forum does not wish to discuss them at the current moment, they have a waiting period of two weeks before they will be re-entered into the optional poll. As the victor, Felicia has also been removed from this week’s optional poll.

    • The two characters have been replaced by Tsukuyomi and Mozume.

Clarification

  • If you’re confused as to what this post is all about, refer to the original post. It is currently Week Three. Week Two polls concerned Silas, and Week One polls concerned Azura.

  • We are discussing the end class for Felicia. You are free to consider reclassing options along the way (just make sure to factor in the cost of reclassing for the Practicality polls), but your vote should be based on your predicted end class.

  • We’re ignoring DLC classes; those are OP on any character. If we go through with post-release (for NA/Europe) polls, I plan to have polls regarding which characters should receive the DLC classes.

  • Children will not be introduced until the localized game is released, or we have gone through all of the first-generation characters.

  • We’re ignoring any class options the Avatar may give to Felicia, as it introduces too many new variables.

  • There will not be Practicality polls for the Third Route, as there’s no space on the polls for it.

  • I limited the Optimization/Practicality poll options to the promoted classes. I figured that in order to use Silas efficiently, he should be at a promoted class than at a base class.

[spoiler=Summary]

Oh wow. These results are actually quite interesting, in that a “non canon” class was voted as the optimal class. That’s a first. Here are the results:

Optimal Class

  1. Strategist (31.82%)

  2. Maid (29.55%)

  3. Exorcist (11.36%)

Most Practical Class (Hoshido)

  1. Maid (38.64%)

  2. Strategist (29.55%)

  3. Exorcist (15.91%)

Most Practical Class (Nohr)

  1. Strategist (38.64%)

  2. Maid (34.09%)

  3. Unavailable (6.82%)

Preferred Class

  1. Maid (75.00%)

  2. Strategist (6.82%)

Third place was discarded as there was a tie between multiple classes.

Upcoming Character

  1. Leo (11.36%) [5+3 votes]

  2. Elise (13.64%) [6 votes]

  3. Nyx (9.09%) [4+1 votes]

(Leo placed ahead of Elise because he got three additional votes from placing second last week.)

With this, the next character we are going to be discussing will be Leo! ...As you might have already seen, ahaha.

Xander and Tsukuyomi each received only one vote, and will therefore not be included in the roster for next week’s poll. Elise and Nyx will “receive” extra votes (three and one respectively) for next week’s poll.

Forum Discussion

  • Adventurer Felicia

    • Felicia can equip the Shining Bow, which allows her to utilize her Mag to attack. The Shining Bow does not allow Felicia to inflict critical hits. However, while Felicia’s Lck is high, her Skl is low; she would not have been scoring that many criticals in the first place.

      • The weapon also has fairly high Mt, and can be very powerful in Felicia’s hands.

      • The weapon has a fairly low Hit Rate and inflicts -20 Avoid, but Lucky Seven can fix these problems.

    • Adventurer allows Felicia to continue using staves. This is useful, as Felicia will probably have a high staff level from her initial class.

  • Exorcist Felicia

    • Exorcist provides Felicia with high Mag and Skl growth (the former capitalizes on her strength, and the latter fixes her weakness). It gives her the ability to use magical weapons.

    • Exorcist allows Felicia to continue using staves. This is useful, as Felicia will probably have a high staff level from her initial class.

    • If Felicia can run through Strategist, Felicia can be a great support unit with Rally Magic/Resistance, Battle Command, Demoiselle, and great staff usage.

    • As a support unit, Felicia will mostly be in the back. Therefore, she does not have to worry about Exorcist’s low Def.

    • Exorcist has the skill Fortune. Since Felicia has great Lck, she can get good bonus EXP out of this skill.

  • Maid Felicia

    • Felicia has poor Str, which makes her inept in this class.

    • Felicia’s Ice Tray allows her to utilize her Mag to attack, but this weapon is hard to come by, and it’s not terribly strong.

      • Also, Felicia’s Ice Tray is not unique to her, and it may be more useful on other characters.

    • Aside from her Ice Tray, Felicia can also use Explosive Shurikens to utilize her Mag. This weapon has stronger Mt, and improves Felicia’s damage output.

      • However, Explosive Shurikens have -20 Avoid. Since Felicia wants to avoid attacks (with her weak Def), this may not be the most useful weapon.

    • Maid has an S-rank in staves. This allows Felicia to use the Bifrost Staff during PvP matches, which revives a dead unit.

    • Felicia has access to many self-healing skills (Sol, Servant’s Joy, Stubbornness), so she can be somewhat of a battle cleric. She’ll be able to assist people on the front lines while taking a couple of hits.

      • Although Felicia has poor Skl, Sol has a relatively high proc rate. Additionally, her Lck is very high, which allows Stubbornness to activate frequently.

  • Sorcerer Felicia

    • Although Sorcerer helps Felicia’s Mag, it provides such poor support for Felicia’s weak Skl.

  • Strategist Felicia

    • Strategist does not help Felicia’s weak Skl. However, this could be fixed if Felicia first raises her Skl sufficiently in Maid and then reclasses into Strategist.

    • Strategist heavily emphasizes Felicia’s strengths and the cost of leaving her weaknesses very prominent. However, she can play the part of a support unit and sit safely at the back.

    • Due to Felicia’s high Lck growth, she may cap out on it. Compared to other classes, Strategist has a high Lck cap.

    • Although Felicia has low Def, she has high Lck and decent Spd. Therefore, with certain breaker skills, she can dodge most attacks in the early game.

    • Strategist grants Felicia good movement, which allows her to assist other units and run away from danger.

Felicia has poor STR and SKL, which in my opinion makes most of her class options shaky at best. Felicia's Ice Tray is a great weapon, but it's not terribly strong and until you find it Felicia's stuck with a bunch of physical kunai working off her poor STR. Simultaneously, however, she can't just go Sorcerer or Strategist easily because of her bad SKL, which Maid can fix... but then you return to the weapon problem.

IMO the best class for Felicia is Exorcist. It has 20% MAG and 10% SKL (no bonus DEF growth, sadly, but Felicia's pretty fragile in most classes anyway) and, obviously, magical weapons for her to use with abandon, as well as retaining her Staff levels and utility. Felicia has great LUC, so she can get good bonus EXP out of Fortune, and Rally Magic fits in nicely with her staff prowess yet fragile defenses. Tomefaire, of course, is obvious. Particularly if she can run through Strategist at some point, Exorcist!Felicia is a great support unit, with Rally Magic/Resistance, Battle Command, and Demoiselle on top of solid MAG and great staff usage.

On Nohr I think Felicia's best option is Strategist. It's not as ideal as Exorcist, but Felicia can gain several levels in Maid during the early part of the game and simply hold off on Second Sealing until Maid's +15% SKL has fixed her SKL problems somewhat. Strategist heavily emphasizes Felicia's strengths at the cost of leaving her weaknesses very prominent, but it gives her tomes and staffs, so she can safely sit behind everybody else with Rally Res, Battle Command, Demoiselle, and staffs and play the part of an uber-support unit who can at least take a potent potshot when safe and/or necessary.

(I still like her best as a Maid, though. Felicia is just such a Maid, it's hard to envision her sincerely being anything else.)

I put the numbers into my excel document, end game wise, she is best as a Maid(not joking). Most of her skills help herself heal(sol, servant's joy, the mercenary one based off luck), so she can be somewhat of a battle cleric. She will go around on the front lines healing people while letting the enemy attack her, only to have Sol activate off Felicia's Ice Tray, the Mercenary Skill, and Servant's Joy making it meaningless. This actually performs quite nicely with Patient Assurance. If you wanted a more offensive class, then I'd go with the Witch DLC when it comes out. As the Magic and Speed stat boosts only make it even more ridiculous.

I agree that exorcist is a good class for her. It brings her useful growths up to passable levels, and while it leaves her str growth low she doesn't need it in that class. Her def and HP growths remain very low though so she should definitely remain as a support unit/healer and not a front line fighter. As much as her supports make her out to be an incredible warrior, her stats just don't match up with that. Maid is also very viable though, she keeps her staff for healing, and while she won't hit as hard as she will as an exorcist, she can use hidden weapons to support her allies even further by debuffing the enemy. So basically, exorcist if you want a supporter who can fight if need be, and maid if you want an all out support unit who won't be able to do anything on her own. For optimization I'd pick maid, for practicality I'd pick exorcist (or strategist in Nohr due to not having access to exorcist unless she marries Kamui).

I'm actually a little confused on how her personal skill works and this is as good a place to ask as any, does it work if she's supporting the avatar in attack stance, or only guard stance? If it can trigger in attack stance as well it's a bit more useful.

I thought Felicia's Ice Tray wasn't exclusive to her? I was actually considering giving it to Elise after shipping her with Kaze or making her a maid since her massive MAG counters its low MGT...

As for Felicia herself, I highly considered A+'ing or marrying her to Zero, making her an Outlaw and giving her a Shining Bow. It'll be a strong weapon in her hands, and when she promotes to Adventurer, she can also get her staves back as well get Lucky Seven to boost her accuracy.

One thing to note is at least in the third path later on she can buy exploding shurikens which are stronger versions of her ice tray weapon. Meaning she can hit very hard as a maid relying purely on her mag. I feel like Maid is the best option for her as not only do the growths synergize with hers but being able to debuff and have access to every staff in the game is invaluable.

While she is frail I find that if you give her breaker skills her decent speed and high luck means she can dodge most things. And speaking strictly of late game and even online pvp most units do not want to take a hit at all. I think as strategies online develop it's going to be much better to focus on having individual characters dodge tank unless they are as tanky as Generals.

One other problem with other classes imo is that if you choose a physical one she will fall flat due to her poor str and if you choose a magic based one you run into the issue of your spells being at best as strong as an exploding shuriken and if you use spells stronger you usually need to debuff yourself after using them.Shurikens don't have that problem.

Keep in mind that Exploding Shuriken have a -20 Avoid penalty. Felicia would rather dodge attacks, so the spells can be well worth the difference in power. Horse God is an excellent example, increasing her defensive stats, speed, and skill by 3.

The Exploding Shuriken (which also uses MAG) is available on all three routes. You get it as a drop in chapter 12 on Nohr and its buyable in both Hoshido and 3rd path at silver-level shops (I think). The first six chapters are over in a breeze, so Felicia has a magic throwing weapon available early on in all routes. If you are using female Kamui, you will always have an Exploding Shuriken available for her when she joins.

I used her both on my Hoshido playthrough and my Nohr playthrough as female Kamui and kept her as a maid. At first I had a few different kunais equipped on her, but even against mages she dealt single digit damage using the physical kunais. Still, with the explosive shuriken she had really good damage output, especially for the magic-lacking Hoshido.

On Nohr, she died by being 1-shot by one of the artillery stone golems. She was on my "not critical unit" list so I didn't reset. She was much less useful on Nohr as a maid due to all the magic damage available for them. Other hybrid classes were faring better than Felicia: for example, adventurer Eponnie (with Azura as mother) was much better than Felicia in all categories, including magic damage with a magic bow.

Although I never tried it, I'd say Felicia probably fares better as a strategist than a maid. The Exploding Shuriken (or ice tray) are the only viable options for her, which prevents her from being able to use different weapons depending on the situation.

I actually considered Adventurer Felicia's optimal class at one point, but I don't think the class effectively capitalizes on her Lck. Compared to the Strategist's cap of 33, Adventurer only has 27. And Felicia actually does seem to cap out on Lck even around level 30, so I think the class she should go for should have a fairly high Lck cap.

That said, I'm leaning towards Basara, Falcon Warrior, or Strategist in terms of Lck. I'd have to go with the majority and say Strategist, as it allows her to serve as a balanced unit. She can attack, but she can retreat if she's hurt due to her high mobility. Similarly, she can easily reach other allies and position herself to utilize her aura skills (and Strategist provides a pretty good aura skill).

If you use an item in a pvp match, do you get it back at the end of the match? Specifically I'm thinking about the bifrost staff reviving a dead unit, to work out how useful that S rank staves rank on the maid will be. If you can use that staff once a match rather than once total, the balance of 'best staff class' seems like it'd tip over to maid, even though other staff users might have higher magic. Only in pvp though.

According to this thread, actions taken during a PvP match are reversed. Hence, the Bifrost staff would be restocked after each match.

In that case, at least with regards to PVP, definitely maid. You only have five units in a pvp match, so the ability to bring one of them back if they die is too useful to pass up. (Granted, there would be better choices than Felicia for who that maid should be, but that's true of every first gen character)

While for the most part my Felicia will be a Strategist for stuff like PvP and I also believe it to be her most optimal class since she can utilize all staffs to A rank(Cause the S rank staff is complete balls and is worthless)and she can use her good Mag growth and mods, however, the only class Felicia feels right in is Maid.

This is late, but the Summary has been posted. It was actually pretty interesting going over Felicia's potential options. I personally want to try using Felicia as an Adventurer in one of my playthroughs.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the polls and in the discussion! You're free to continue voting/discussing if you want, but this wraps up Week Three. The next set of polls have already been posted, and I hope you enjoy that one!

So I compared her growths to that of the generics

Class - correlation

Maid -.09

Strategist -.52

Brave Hero - -.24

Bow Knight - -. 41

Not only she's a Terrible Maid in story she also is in gameplay
