Mug Description Contest

Hello and welcome to the first ever Mug Description Contest!

In this contest, the host will provide a short description, vague or detailed, describing what kind of mug the competitors will make.

If there is enough interest, I will keep acting as host in future contests.

Confused? Don't be, here's an example!

Blue haired, Lord-like male. Scarred face and a cape.

[spoiler=Result]03df4d324c0b5aeb63e61a42a290b3c4.png Obviously, don't post already existing sprites as an entry.

Anyway, here are the rules. (Will be put in a spoiler in future contests.)

  • Any type of Fire Emblem styled Mug is acceptable. Spliced or Custom, this contest is made for both newcomers and veterans of the Fire Emblem spriting community. If you want to try a different style other than FE 6 - 8, go for it, as long as it's a Fire Emblem Mug.
  • Recommended color limit: 16 (15 on your mug +1 for background). This is rule is flexible, but being cautious with your color count as a general rule of thumb for good pixel art. You are allowed to deviate from the standard FE color choices if you wish to do so, as well.
  • If there's a voting thread, don't vote for yourself. If you think none of the other entries are worth a vote, don't vote.
  • Hosts may enter contests. As a public poll is used as the voting platform, hosts receive no benefits or unfair advantages from running the contest.
  • Only 1 entry per member. However, you may edit your entry while the contest is still active. Please edit your first post, or quote the most recent entry you wish you submit for clarification, or the wrong entry may be submitted for voting.

Anyway, here is the description for the contest. Let's start off easy.

Description: Black haired, armored male. Has facial hair and thick eyebrows.

Deadline: TBD

Feel free to also discuss ideas. It is the first time this has been done, and I am open to suggestions for future contests.

Here is a thought... what if instead of just Mug Descriptions... we had battle sprite and overworld... even half body entries valid as well?

Then if someone wanted to go the extra mile... they could make an entire character, or mug and battle sprite, or whatever?

I think this concept sounds awesome! Lots of freedom for creativity... so why not extend it to everyone? :D

I think for the purposes of everyone feeling like they're in the same thing together, just portraits would be best. That's just my thought though~ ^^;

Excited to try this out, great first prompt~

Would people be interested in free blink/talk service (as an opt-in) on their entries? (As half-incentive, half- for people that enjoy making mugs for their projects but not doing some extra hackbox steps.) It's something I'm interested in offering (within limits, and this seems like a good opportunity to try it out).

I'm gonna have to agree with Lenh on this one, just for a sense of continuity. Battle sprites and overworld may lose some crucial detail, since a lot of these descriptions may rely heavily on facial features or something similar.

I don't think anyone would be against free frames haha.

Speaking of hackboxes, do entires need to fit within them, or does the "different style other than FE 6-8" cover that?

This is a really neat idea, looking forward to making something.

I'm gonna say hackboxes can be broken since these aren't being made specifically for hacks. Let the creativity flow~

If I decided to enter, that would be great, actually! Thanks for offering!

EDIT: DZty5tB.png

I will probably go back and edit the armor if I have time. And yeah, I know it's not great, so constructive criticism would be appreciated.

Sweet! And cool sub! ^^ I'd say the ideas were there, but the hair could probably be arranged to curve with the head a bit more (unless you're going for a furry hat). Still see a lot of Wallace in there so you'd definitely be improving it by changing up the armor or some base colors..

I'll PM you the blink/talk when the contest deadline is done (or in 2~3 weeks, whichever is first), just in case you make any more edits before then. (Same will go for anyone else who opts in~)

I am very pleased at the quality and how many entries we've received so far, but friendly reminder, we have a day and an half left if you still want to enter.
