Hi! Welcome to Serenes Forest Scribbles, the first official creative-themed event we've ever hosted!

The idea for this event was originally conceived when it was requested that the SF staff and myself be more personally involved with the creative community in some way. In the past there was a lack of communication between the sections' members and ourselves, and we rarely concerned ourselves with the community unless there was an issue reported. For the creative community, I'm hopeful that this will double as something of an icebreaker as well as an overdue show of appreciation and acknowledgement. The creative minds that have decided to make SF their home are as important to us as anyone else, I hope that throughout the course of this event you'll get to see the side of our staff that we haven't made much of an effort to show you in the past :P:.

The goal of the event is to bring the community together and do something fun. You don't need to be an active contributor in our Creative sections or long-standing member to participate, just have some kind of creative ability that you'd like to share. The focus of the event is on community, and the way the voting and rules are set up denote a much more casual setting and approach. A wide variety of creative submissions are accepted, and the focus for voters will most likely be on which submission they like the most. There isn't strict voting criteria, simply vote for what you think is the coolest submission for whatever your reason may be.

With that said, we do have very talented people in the community, but don't get discouraged if you feel that you can't "compete" or if your submission receives few votes. All submissions are appreciated and will receive equal treatment by event-runners, and I hope that if you have any type of creative talent you'd like to share, you'll consider submitting something to the event. It's all about having a bit of fun as a community and making a couple friends along the way, so even if you don't think you have the skills to win it all, we'd love to see what you have to submit anyway.

I'd like to make it clear that this is the first time we've ever held an event like this, so a few things are going to be foggy until we know how many people we'll have participating in the event and how many different types of submissions we'll receive. It's hard to plan certain details when you have no idea what to expect, so this event will be something of a learning experience for any future events we do of this size.

----

Rules

1. Your submission must be Fire Emblem related. Your stories, pictures, etc can have original characters or locations in them, but be sure that it can be easily recognized as a Fire Emblem piece.

2. Your submission must not include copyrighted assets.

3. No trolling, vote inflating or joke submissions. Don't send us stick figures or whatever just to get a participant prize, unless there is a clear purpose behind the design choice. You don't need to be the greatest artist or most creative person in the world, just put effort into your submission and I guarantee you it will be appreciated. Do what you do best!

4. Likewise, submissions entered with content intended to mock/bother another user is disallowed.

5. Only one submission per member is allowed. You're free to change your submission if you'd like to before the event goes to voting phase.

6. Code of Conduct behaviour rules still apply, and we will not tolerate the use of this event to bother or upset other members. If you attempt to cause trouble in this thread or make inflammatory comments towards its participants, you will be suspended immediately.

----

How do I enter?

Send me a PM when your submission is ready and you'll be entered.

F.A.Q

Q: What is this event?
A: It's a creative themed event where users submit something they've created to have some fun and win some prizes.

Q: Can I submit X?
A: As long as your submission is original content, related to the Fire Emblem main series, and doesn't break the SF Code of Conduct or event rules (ie no pornographic images) it will be accepted. Use those talents of yours to create something unique, if that's your thing!

Q: Can I do something with my friend, or get some help from them?
A: A friend can give you some tips and tricks, supply you with materials, or offer opinions/creative ideas, but the piece must be done by you. If you want to include a friend, consider them an assistant.

Q: I want to create something physical, is that alright?

A: Yup! If what you want to do for your submission is a physical creation, just take a few pictures of it with your username written on a piece of paper and send me those.

Q: How are the winners decided?
A: Since community participation is the main goal of the event, the winners will be decided by public vote (or a series of votes depending on how many submissions we get).

Q: Will any type of submission have an advantage?

A: Not on a mechanical level, but there's a good chance that the average voter is more likely to vote a certain way, sure. For example, if you choose to submit a story and it runs 50,000 words long, you take the risk of the average person not bothering to read it, so in that sense it may have a disadvantage compared to a painting. Regardless of how a submission places in voting, great submissions of all varieties will receive attention and recognition from SF at the very least. Fun and participation are the main priority!

Q: I'm not currently a member, am I still allowed to participate?

A: Yup! Just register an account and you're free to submit something.

Q: Can I submit something I created previous to this event?

A: It's difficult for us to know "when" something was made, but in the spirit of the event we'd prefer if you submitted something you made for it specifically.

Q: I noticed the prizes were mostly physical, so that means an address will be required?

A: Yes, we will need a shipping address in order to send you the prizes. Any personal information exchanged will be kept solely between the user receiving the prize, the staff member shipping it, and the admin overseeing the exchange to reassure users. It will not be shared with anyone else, and the PM it is exchanged in will be removed as soon as you receive your item.

Q: Is there anywhere you won't ship to?

A: No.

Q: I'm going to submit a story, how should I present it?

A: Send it to me in a PM and I'll make a WW thread for it that will be linked to during voting.

Q: I want to do a vocal cover of a song, am I allowed to use the original music or should I use something fan-made?

A: Yes, this is the only type of submission where official work would be permitted. One can't really exist without the other, and using a fan-made instrumental could make viewers think you made the music as well.

Q: I don't think I can win, should I still enter :(?
A: Yes! The purpose of the event is to have fun, show your stuff and maybe make some new friends along the way. Everyone who enters will get some badges, as well as an exclusive participant badge, regardless of their placement.

Prizes

Grand Prize:

A grand prize package will be given to the creator of the submission that receives the most votes. They will have a CHOICE between TWO packages, and the one they do not choose will go to the person who placed second:

The Fire Emblem Fates Limited Edition Bundle

wow jyo stealth edit nice try

----

Additional Details:

The Fates LE bundle comes with:

- Birthright, Conquest and Revelation all on a single cart

- A New 3DS XL Fates themed carrying pouch

- An 80 page artbook

If a PAL region member wins and selects this prize, they will have to wait until pre-orders open until we can actually get it for them. There won't be an issue for NA members.

Fire Emblem Fates is set for release on February 19th 2016. You probably noticed that our event ends sooner than that, so if you select this option as your prize you'll have to wait until the game releases until we can actually get it to you! We have it on pre-order, but it will take us time to send you the gift. We will ship the prize the same day we receive it, and you'll get your hands on it not too long afterwards if all goes well. If you live outside of the United States, shipping will obviously take longer.

You can find more information about Fates on our website:

http://serenesforest.net/fire-emblem-fates/

[spoiler=Package #2: The Oldschool]

1 authentic game cart of Fire Emblem: Dark Dragon and Sword of Light for the Famicom*
1 authentic game cart of Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem for the Super Famicom *

Additional Details:
-You can find more info on both games on this very website, so no need to go too in-depth in this post!

FE1:
http://serenesforest...sword-of-light/
FE3: http://serenesforest...-of-the-emblem/

Do note that to play these on western consoles, you will need a pin converter, as Famicom games are not compatible with the NES console. That said, there are some guides online if you're determined to play them on your NES/SNES.

-The artbook was released in 1995, not long after the release of Fire Emblem 3. There are 86 pages, and the art is all done by manga author Maki Hakoda of
World End Fairytale and
R2 fame. He was also the writer and artist for the Fire Emblem manga that ran from 1993-1999 that many fans are already familiar with.

These items are donated by our staff, and so they are used, but they're in very good condition. Following that, we're missing the box and the manuals for the two games, so that's going to lead us into the extra prize:

Custom Box and manuals to go with the Fire Emblem games!

In the spirit of the event, Specta and I will be entering in a special way. When the event begins, we're going to be working together to create an SF style game box and SF game manual from scratch for each title. As the event goes on, we'll update the thread with pictures of our progress. Don't expect something professional, on the contrary, we're going to do our best to give you something unique and silly. It'll be a mix of useful information and hijinks....and you'll be the only one who owns one!

----

Top Ten Prizes:
People with submissions that place in the top ten will receive a copy of fan-made Fire Emblem Anthology, a fanzine 112 page collection of written works, comic strips, and illustration centered around Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance by a group of talented FE fans. As you might know, our website theme was inspired by the home of the herons in FE9, and the 10th anniversary of the game happened to be this year. Stars aligned!

Participant Prize:
All entrants will receive early access to a special set of badges we have planned, and also a unique participant badge that will be exclusive to users who enter! These are forum badges, displayed under your member group and avatar.

----

Deadline & Voting

The start date will be December 2nd and the deadline will be February 2nd 6PM PST/9PM EST.

How we handle the voting process isn't yet clear, as we can't be sure how many submissions we'll end up getting. By default we'll be having a single "openweight" category, but that will change if we get a lot of submissions, or a lot of different types of submissions.

You have about two months to complete your submission and send it in. Voting will begin a day or two after the deadline. I have no idea how many submissions to expect as we've never done an event like this before, so if we get a lot it may take some organizing before we can get voting started.

----

In closing and miscellaneous stuff

Thanks for taking the time to give this a read! Feel free to use this thread to chat about anything, it's all about socializing, don't worry about spam rules or being off topic.

The event will be advertised on the website and in a couple of our major forum sections, and I'll be writing updates and articles as time progresses.

If you have any questions I haven't already answered, just make a post and I'll add it to the FAQ!

The Raffle

After the event has ended we'll be putting your fate in the hands of the RNG Goddess once more. Every member who makes a submission for the event will be assigned a number and entered into the raffle. Two lucky winners will be the recipients of a new, still boxed amiibo courtesy of the SF staff.

As unlikely as it is, if we roll the same person twice, we'll simply roll again. Good luck!

Must have missed your post, if you have a question or something you can send me a PM if you'd like a faster response. I'm a little bit busy today and working on the Christmas "event" as well.

My only question being, what would be considered as copyrighted material? At best, the only amount of art I can do is GIMP images (which are all in spoiler in my profile, if you want an example). Would official artwork fall into that category? Or even the symbol?

My post was asking if I could submit splices I made, but then I saw the no copyrighted assets rule. No biggy, though, as I have something better in mind.

I love the prizes~ Dat 2nd bundle. Wheew. Also, are there any restrictions on previously created work? I didn't see anything in the rules about it. I assume no though?

Yeah, incorporating official artwork (or artwork done by other artists) wouldn't work out. There's a good chance something like that would even confuse the voter and they'd believe you drew/made it.

We accept a wide variety of submissions though, you don't necessarily have to do a picture or drawing. If you have something cool you're good at and think you can come up with a way to apply it to a Fire Emblem piece/submission, you can use that skill to enter! Physical prizes are accepted as well, so you can even create something that isn't digital if that's what you like to do. Just have a camera ready for picture proof.

Oh, no worries. I'm looking forward to what you have planned!

Yeah, something new made specifically for the event is what we're going for. If you just started something and decide you want to work on it for the event though, I don't see why that wouldn't be accepted.

I'm glad you like the bundle, I was a little worried it wouldn't be as attractive next to Fates LE, lol!

Just to confirm; The top prizes are either an old FE game that won't play on my European SNES or a copy of Fates that won't play on my European 3DS, right?

will the submissions be anonymous

actually it probably should be anonymous, just so people don't (knowingly) vote against unpopular users / for popular users

For Fates, yes, it's a North American copy of the game, as there hasn't been a release date announcement for EU yet we can't be sure if/when we could promise something like that. I'll add that to the OP.

The method for getting the Famicom games to work on your NES/SNES should still be the same as the method to get them working on a NA console. You'll need a converter.

will the submissions be anonymous

Submissions are anonymous by default, but if you win I'll have to name you at the end. It shouldn't be too much of a problem even for the shyest of our community, lol!

That said, I don't intend to stop people from telling others what they submitted. Part of the fun for some people could be sharing their work with friends/other people as they progress, and the main focus of the event is community. So by default, for people who don't want it shared during the event, it will be anonymous. But there are no rules preventing you from sharing your work if it's fun for you to do so among friends.

Well I had a crossover bet story I have to type up for a bet with a lad I have, so query, it is fire emblem related as that is one of the things I had to crossover, but the other is a series from a different side of the globe. Since it does have fire emblem as a focus would it count or no?

Link to comment

Yeah, that should be fine. As long as it's a recognizable FE related/focused piece you're good to go. If that requirement is met you can do whatever creative stuff you like, including OCs and such.

If you're writing a story and aren't sure if it would qualify, send a PM to Eclipse and describe it more thoroughly and I'm sure she'd be glad to evaluate.

Question:

Would a written submission based off events that happened in a Fire Emblem game count as original, or would it only be considered original if you wrote something using the world and not (in game) canon events?

'Nother question: Would the winner of this also receive that fan-art book? That could be a given, but I'm not sure.

Yes, everyone from 1-10 will receive the FEA.

I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but if you're talking about something like writing a "sequel" to an FE game or a short story about a continuation of an event that you wanted to expand on, then that would be fine.

Link to comment

Yup, that's totally fine. Writing a story from a different character's perspective and continuing the story past where the game did could definitely make an original piece. The only time it'd be a problem is if you just pulled from the script of the chapter and didn't actually come up with anything on your own.
