That reference has always been a little lost on me since the horse's name is Avel [A-ve-ru] while Abel's name is [A-be-ru]. Was it stated to be a reference because the horse's name was never Abel. Putting Scarlet in the middle of a few archers, putting Sophie out into a field of promoted units when it clearly says they can all double her...and then getting surprised that she dies.
