I don't know about you guys but in every RPG I play I always go for a mage first. It's just so much more fun to shoot lightning from my fingertips before teleporting away into the night than to stab someone.Oh well, I guess I'll have to make do with Robin. I think something that keeps them from trying it is that all the main lords have a signature weapon, specifically a sword. Ike and Ragnell, Chrom, Lucina, and Marth with Falchion, Roy and his blade, Ryoma and Raijinto, Xander and Seigfried, Corrin and the Yato, etc, etc. Though they showed improvement in regards to Leo and Takumi. Leo's signature weapon wasnt an axe, a sword, or a lance, his weapon was a tome. Takumi's was a bow. Robin was also a step towards that direction too considering canon wise, he is a magic user. Maybe that will start affecting the way things go later, because I fully agree. A lord with a different profession than the typical warrior would be nice. More magic using main characters is great! Bravely Second is sorta like this with main male character being the party's strongest magic user. Another thing, why do most magic users are usually female? Why can't we have more male mages in RPGs? Male healers are even rarer! I consider Robin (excuse me, the avatar) to be the main character if you pick the right ending but I see what you mean. And I do agree we need us more tome/staff protagonists in Fire Emblem and every other game ever. You can do so many things for a character's fighting style in this medium, but no.
