[FE14] Fates Unique Character Model/Texture IDs and Tools

Nee-san ain't doing too hot...

I've compiled a list of character IDs for character models and textures within the game's romfs. I only did a basic peak at the models and textures, but here's what I've learned:

  • Units are assigned IDs for their head models
  • Certain units have unique models and textures, they also share the same ID as their heads
  • Classes are grouped together, so for characters like Silas, his texture is for both Cavalier and Paladin

I hope that someone will use this knowledge in order to understand the prospect of texture editing and unique models in Fates, and maybe make something cool out of it!

To rebuild/recompress .lz files, use programs like BatchLZ77 / DSDecmp4 / lzx

How exactly am I supposed to get the model files? I've already extracted all of my files from the Romfs, but I don't know what to do next? I really want to try texture editing.

They're located in the "bu" folder. Use FEAT to extract the .lz files, and you'll get the .bch files that you use with Ohana3DS to view the models with. For the textures, you'll want the files that end with cl0n_X. They'll create a folder with the textures that you can edit.

AFAIK the only way of inserting textures into the .bch format (used by Fates) is via Ohana3DS and for some reason it just craps all over the quality of the textures, and you get results like this;

An example is this, with character sprites;
