FE4 Translation Patch (Open Beta v7)

Recommended Posts

Dear God, it's been a while since I've been around these parts.

As some of you might remember from the debate on the FE6 topic back in the ancient times of 2014, the most recent translation is not always the most valid one, but it provides a good hint of where to look. Consistency is the most important factor, followed closely by unambiguity - we don't want to have four different names for the same character if it can be avoided. Considering this, it makes sense to use Lachesis - it's what 90% of us already call her and it's an official name. This isn't a "Vergil" situation and it makes little sense to treat it as such.

I've tried patching this multiple times with every different file in the patch. Every time I do it, zsnes just refuses to open it. I'll drag and drop the patched rom onto it and snes will not open. I've tried loading the rom after opening zsnes but that won't work either. I made sure to check that it was the exact rom the read me file said to use and patched it with the corresponding patch for unheadered roms.

Please be sure to test using either the latest version of Snes9X or Bsnes/Higan. This patch will not function in the ZSNES emulator!

Please read the first post, as it clearly states that it doesn't work in ZSNES.

The game works on Snes9x, but I get an error saying "Unable to initialize XAudio2", so I can't hear any game sounds. It says to check if i have the latest version of DirectX installed, which I do. Any way I can fix this?

EDIT: Never mind, figured it out.

Are pairings unlocked? so you could make any pair?

Anyone can be paired with anyone. There are a few exceptions, though. Sigurd falls in love when the plot demands it and full siblings aren't allowed to get married. Usually.

So this might be an unsolvable problem but I have a Chromebook (read: not windows, but chrome OS) and have been trying to find a way to patch FE4. I have a japanese rom and an emulator already (NESbox) but I can't get lunar ips or deltapatcher because they are for windows. It doesn't seem super possible but if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I guess I could get ubuntu and try from there but that seems like a lot of memory commitment...

Thanks!

NESbox? This emulator can use SNES games? Huh, kind of misleading name here...

EDIT: Also, welcome to Serenes Forest! ^^

I think there was a person on RHDN that wrote a web-based patching utility. RHDN Thread

I just tried it out with a headered Japanese ROM and the headered IPS file for Beta v7, and it produced the right output. Maybe you can try that one out?

It actually does NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Gameboy. A bit of a misnomer.

Thanks! To be fair, I've been creeping around this site for a couple years now, I've just never had cause to create an account. :P

This method worked beautifully!! Thank you so much!

Just overwrite the OS with Linux.

Thank you for this patch!  While the previous FE4 translation patch was pretty good, this one is even better and much appreciated.

Are there any plans to update this patch with the official names coming from Heroes?  For instance, Lachesis instead of Raquesis.

I noticed a few odd things in the ending.  One was that Patty and Cairpre were married, and at one point, he called her PattyKtu.  Another interesting issue I noticed is that Seliph called some random dude with a mustache Sigurd.  I have no idea who this character is...he looked like a random villager NPC.

Finally, it doesn't seem like this patch and Nightmare play along nicely together.  I noticed the values get all jacked up when loading it into Nightmare.  Would it be possible to edit things in the original Japanese version with Nightmare then apply this patch over it, or will that just jack up the values again?  I'm thinking the latter...

Anyway, outstanding work on this patch!  Here's to hoping the next game to get a remake is Genealogy...

Thanks a lot for this wonderful patch! It works perfectly! Is there any plans to finish it and translate Thracia 776?

I think that's what bookofholsety is planning for the next script update. Are the new names finalized?

I think those were some older bugs that should be fixed for the next patch. Some text and script tags got mixed up.

Is Nightmare a standalone patch mod? If all it changes are stat values or something, it might work by using it first. This patch shouldn't affect any of those. Though it does change how names of things are stored and displayed.

I think that is the plan. I'm basically on-call for whenever everyone is ready to get started on it. Though I definitely want to finalize this project before moving on.

Hey I want to know will the patch work with bizhawk?

I had to look it up. It's an emulator? I think if any emulator can handle HiROM games like Star Ocean, it should be able to play this translation as well.

Ok this is subject to change since they already went back on a previous localization in the past month, but Fire Emblem Echoes localized the name of the Levin Sword from 2, 4, and 5- the very same Holsety localized differently from Levin Sword- as the "Lightning Sword" rather than Bolt Sword.

Again; subject to change until May 19th.

I'm very much looking forward to Holsety's rendition of Thracia, as it will certainly be top quality and (no offense to anyone else intended) likely among the best the fanbase can provide, along with the gringe binding blade patch.

Sorry if this has been asked but does this work with nightmare?

Nightmare is a table editor. This question needs a lot more information to be answerable.

I'm guessing you have FE4 .nmms from somewhere, which would work with the patch if the tables edited in those modules were not moved. If the tables were moved, you'd be out of luck.

You'll have to forgive me for my lack of knowledge on the subject. I know I have FE4 Nightmare modules (it has several item, class, and character editors) and the file I used was an smc (I'm not sure if that means anything or not). I was mostly curious if I could make the changes I made to my old FE4 to this newly translated one

@DDS @bookofholsety So will this project ever get past the 7th Beta? Or will it just never really be officialised at this point? It has been more than a few months since the last update, and I'm starting to get a bit worried :P
