New player in town (well soon enough :p)

Hi there. I'm new on this forum, and to this TCG. My wife and I just ordered a bunch of cards yesterday, we've looked into the rules, and will be ready to give this beauty a try once we get all our stuff.

We both like Awakening, and the Fates games a lot, especially the characters, so nice arts on nice cards in a nice game are all we need.

Now, even if we're not total rookies with TCG (I started Magic when I was 6... so 22 years ago), we could use some tips and advice in order to play properly and build some decks. So please, feel free to drop a comment, it'll probably come handy ! ^^


A few infos about me and my wife. We live in France, so we'll probably only playing against each other. I like a lot of FE characters, mostly females (no kidding ? xD), and she likes most hot androgynous dudes, so our decks will probably reflect that.
I'm more of a strategic player, while she's usual the brute force type.

Now regarding what we've ordered :

Play whatever you feel like is fun basically. Once you have a few games you'll realise what your favourite is and probably focus on the one deck, but oh well.

Keep playtesting, it's a pretty fun fast game (or it can be).

Thanks. Yeah, that's the plan. I think with what we ordered we'll be able to test a lot of things. There's a few really nice skills on some SR too, so the games might get real fun on endgames with those I guess.

I'll try to think of at least one decklist for each one of us if the single cards are delivered before the starter decks. ;)

If you were to want to play seriously, that shopping list doesn't cover nearly enough of what you need. So the advice is just build whatever you like and have fun with it as mentioned already.

But you should have 4 copies of your intended promotion for even a basic deck (you'll notice all starter decks have 4 of the promotion cards of the intended MC). So if you want to MC those listed I'd recommend at least getting 4 copies of them - or just play with a "grab your promotion card at the start" agreement. 200 cards is only going to make 4 decks too - along with the 3 starters you will have a max of 7 decks which is less than the number of MCs you listed (11). You could just put the characters in the same deck together and choose to MC whichever at the time to get around that without buying more cards though.

Hi and thanks for the insight.

As stated before, we won't be playing "seriously" since there's only two of us. ^^

I understand that decks need 4 copies of the wanted Lord promotion, but I can't affor 10~30€*4 for each lord we'll want to play, when those cards are SR, that's why I mostly took 2-3 promoted rares and 2-1 SR (depending on the price), which end up being 4 promotion cards everytime if I didn't make a mistake (remember some of the promoted cards are in the starter decks anyway).

We won't have the best decks possible this way, but they'll all be more or less balanced with around the same number of SR in them.

Also, we'll just sleeve all the cards, and take whatever we want before each game, so we won't have some fixed decks with cards locked in them. Which means we'll be able to build more than 7 fixed decks I think.
