Just a minor correction about the history of the Udagals, since I had some time to review Haldia's explanation.

For those unaware, the Udagal are the tribe who liberated Magul Island long, long ago and renamed it Vestaria Island, as well as creating the foundations for the Solvian Empire.

It appears Valerius has Udagal blood, but hates it because the Udagals by imperial law aren't allowed to rise to high positions. From what I can tell, during the 4th dynasty, the Udagals themselves set up this law and it is followed to this day. Instead, the Udagals desired to leave the continent to the humans. This is all related to the "Magul Warning", presumably to do with the Udagal's fear of the returning dark lord.

Perhaps the dark lord himself was an Udagal and the Udagal won't to avoid a repeat of history by limiting their tribe's rise to supremacy?

Last I heard, it was going to have 20-25 maps, but a lot could have changed.

Just reached Chapter 5 and it looks like a tough cookie. I caved and read the guide XD

Here's some info/tips for the previous chapter, in the cave.

The chest to the west can be reached with one of the Axe Fighters clearing the rubble. I used Jan, but I assume Ash works too. Dunno about Zayed.

The middle chest requires searching the skeleton to the far north, near the boss for a key.

The chest in the bottom-right corner can be accessed via the "secret tunnel" to the east. You can easily slay the dragon with Caesar's Ice Blade (requires 2+ hits), if you preserved it uses.

The bandits in the top-left corner escape if you have Sheila talk to the friendly looking one. You get a Speed Potion at the end.

At the end of the chapter, there's some pretty interesting discussion between Zeid and Caesar about the corruption within Venecia. You also learn a bit more about its history, during the dark ages.

Oh yeah, Atol confides with Zeid about Alicia's true identity. Zeid isn't dumb and already knew she was a Ring Maiden. Years ago, Atol and Alicia got to know each other at the Ring Tower. There, she also met 4 other Ring Maidens, I think.

Finally, there seems to be an ancient dragon sleeping deep within Vestaria... Apparently sealed by the Udagals. Is this the true nature of the dark lord Magul?

Okay, so before I go any further, I'd like to confirm some basic stuff, so if anybody feels like lending me a hand that'd be pretty nice:)

Stats are

Strength Magic

Skill Speed

Luck Constitution(?)

Defense Resistance

Move

Is that correct? Also, as far as weapon stats go, I'm unsure about one of them:

Might Accuracy

Critical Range

??? Max uses

Weight

Otherwise, from what I can tell, accuracy seems to be your weapon's + (skill x 3), and crit is straight up skill, aka skill is looking good in this one, although you need a special skill to crit at all. Having a hard time figuring out evade...

Not sure why the guard knights have lances twice in their equippable weapons, and so many skills to figure out... man.

Oh and adept at speed x3% is looking gooood.

Edit: Oh, the other lance rank is for ranged lances, that the cavalier cannot use. Okay.

has anyone finished chapter 9??

i'm having the _worst_ experience w/ the boss rn.. none of my characters have a hit rate >20% qq

his stats, if anyone is interested:

Just finished that one up last night.

I had Caesar use his ice tome with the help of Zeid's charisma. I actually had a grand total of 4% hit and the exact amount of damage. It wasn't even the end of the chapter either when he finally fell.. Let me know if you find an alternative strategy, because that seemed a bit too.. cheesy to really be it.

I assume Zeid's Lord Asral and Meredy's Dandelion don't cut it? I really dislike the regular Thieves, so I can't imagine what this Assassin guy is like...

So does Proficiency work like Weapon Level in old FE games/TRS?

Yeah. It can level up.

I was able to get 17 damage x2 @ 34% hit chances with Zeid, but I wasn't able to ever land that second hit. Dandelion wasn't even above 0%.. Thieves have been absolutely ridiculous in this game, I always end up using a prf weapon against them.

LOL i'm glad i wasn't alone... i promoted haldia and had ~45% to one shot him. just out of curiosity, but did you kill all of the villages? i felt pretty bad but the enemy count went down...and they gave items... and a lot of exp so yeah idk if it did anything tho :-//

thieves are pretty insane @_@ so many status effects and their "invisibility"

also side note but meredy gets a picture change when she promotes! p cool:

I see, I'll bear that in mind ^^

Aww man, Chapter 5, the coup d'etat at Venecia is murdering my brain. Managed to survive the first 5 turns, but dunno what to do from here. Somehow I was able to wipe out most of the battalion to the far west, with all the annoying ranged fighters.

Zayed is pretty cool, but his weapons are running low : /

There looks to be a Repeater Bow Sniper to the east, so I'm wondering how to escort the little girl. I had Troy pick her up, so I'm thinking if he can mad dash to the south. Maybe I'll see if he can carry the Iron Duke from the previous chapter, which halves damage.

Glad to see that promotion portrait upgrades are a thing! I promoted the green haired Soldier, and he's been doing some serious work with his capped 25 defense at level 3. It looks like once a unit promotes, they get 60% of the exp a normal unit of their level would get. Most of his kills still resulted in 100 exp in that chapter though.

I destroyed all but one of the villages. I noticed that one of them actually had a portrait instead of just a generic tent, so I left that one alive. It was hopefully worth the ~10 free levels and all those items.

That ninja with the sleep ability was so obnoxious. I had to reset back 5 turns after he slept the 4 units I sent to finish him off.

I see, I'll bear that in mind ^^

I agree, Zayed is pretty sweet. You should be able to buy some more ranged pickaxes in one of the upcoming shops.

That chapter has definitely been the toughest one so far in my opinion. I was able to have Caesar one shot the troublesome sniper. I don't think I ever got that emblem, was it in the last cave chapter? Hopefully Troy will be able to tank anything that may come his way on the dash downwards!

Oh, the Iron Duke is a lance. It's from one of the chests... I'm tempted to say the one with the dragon nearby.

A quick-ish recap of Chapter 5. As mentioned, this is pretty much an elaborate puzzle.

First thing you need to do is bring the little girl to the house in the south-west corner. The character who speaks to the girl needs to visit the village, so I advise picking Troy or Meredy with their large movement. If they have the Iron Duke lance from the cave, they can tank most of the hits.

After a few turns, the battalion to the west opens the door and moves out. Most of these guys are ranged fighters, so you want to lead with high defence, then mop them up quick. I'm not that great with strategy, but I managed somehow XD

Once you've brought the little girl home, here's the important part: The man will transport 4 characters adjacent and on the house tile to the other side. He'll only do this once, so choose wisely. The enemies on the other side are pretty sparse and weak (except the Level 17 Armour Knight who doesn't move), so it's not too hard. I brought along the two Knights.

Having crossed to the other side, the small group needs to village the house near the lighthouse to open the drawbridge to the left. You can also have Cezar open the drawbridge to the north, but those two powerful mercenaries are there, so it might not be a good idea. After that, you need to break through and pull the lever, which opens the array of doors further north.

The only tricky enemies in the lever area are the Repeater Bow Sniper and the one Bow Knight along the north. The rest are weak or don't move. You can even snipe the Sniper with your main force. I was reckless and used Jan with the Morning Star, but Caesar sounds like the best choice.

Around this time, Nyna will emerge from the mansion to the north-east. Making sure to clear the path with the three Eagle Riders, make Nyna approach the two promoted male and female mercenary pair. As already mentioned, the female mercenary will engage Nyna. However, upon realising she's being forced to fight a child, she switches sides and the pair become NPCs that help you.

From here, you can start amassing your troops near the final drawbridge to the senate building, where the boss is. As soon as Zeid enters the area north of the drawbridge, the drawbridge will open, more soldiers will pile up and executioners will start heading towards the prison. As such, you may want to wait until you're ready before having Zeid go forth. Maybe wait until you can save as well.

To stop the executioners, you can have the three Eagle Riders take pot shots. The trio of archers don't move and most of the soldiers up north should get aggro'd by your troops before the drawbridge.

The boss is pretty bulky and hits like a truck with his Master Sword. He also has a strong throwing weapon. No idea what the optimal strategy is, but I had Troy tank the hits with the Iron Duke. For some reason, the boss switched to his ranged weapon, which did even less damage than the Master Sword's 4 hits. I guess the AI isn't that smart XD

Oh yeah, I got Troy to Level 10 and he learned Triple Hit (20% chance of attacking three times). That obviously came in pretty handy for nailing the boss...

After the chapter's over, there's a LOT of story. Lytton locks up Duless, the traitorous politician. I couldn't really spot anything for saving all the prisoners, but I guess I avoided a bad ending or something? Poor Nyna returns to Vesta along with Aslan. Only Air and Luvina join your party. Nooo.

Beatrice divulges Caesar's past to Lytton. I'm going off my poor memory so some details might be off. When Caesar was 5, his mother and Zeid's mother both died from the epidemic that hit Meleda. Caesar's father, the duke of Fral was distraught and ended up marrying another woman. This woman was a nasty piece of work and abused Caesar.

Soon afterwards, Caesar's father died and Caesar's abuse only got worse. When he could no longer stand it, he ran away from home and found his way to Redessa, at which point he was on his last legs. Although Zeid's father, the duke of Redessa, wanted to help Caesar, Caesar's step-mother accused him of interfering with Fral's affairs and Zeid's father was reprimanded.

However, rather than leave Caesar to his fate, he thought of a plan. He suggested that Caesar become a priest serving the Vesta church. To be a servant, you must not be royalty or nobility, which meant Caesar gave up his birthright. Obviously Caesar's step-mother was over the moon and stopped bothering Caesar. From there, Caesar and Zeid grew up together and became best of friends. At least until Caesar was old enough to leave for Vesta.

Aside from this, there's definitely a Merric vibe to Caesar. Pretty sure he's secretly got feelings for Beatrice, Zeid's older sister (like Merric had for Elice). But obviously Beatrice left Redessa and married Lytton. For a moment, I thought Kaga was going to push Caesar x Nyna (Beatrice's daughter). Lytton even jokes about Caesar "stealing" Nyna away.

Almost forgot. Dunno if you can miss this, but if you visit the shop in the south-west corner, it'll activate the battle preparations shop. There's not much to buy, but it's better than nothing and you can sell stuff too.

ALSO, if you have Atol wait next to Cezar, he'll give her some gold. I think you can do this every chapter. In Chapter 5, I think he tells her to buy a new dress XD

Just got to chapter 13 tonight. Looks like the dancer equivalent in this game also uses tomes. Her prf tome grants her 100% vantage and cancel upon hit. Promotion items seem somewhat rare at the moment, but there's a shop on Chapter 11 that sells the Flier and Cavalry promotion items for 5,000 a pop. The chest in the top right of the map also has the mage promotion item.

Chapter 11 itself was quite interesting, I had actually restarted the whole thing 3 times due to getting stuck on my approach.

It turns out there are certain events that can be triggered to reduce some of the enemies inside the castle. You can pay off the assassins. Heal a civilian causing a riot in the city opening one of the doors. Poison the water to knock out the ballistacians (I chose not to do this one, as it said innocent people would die as well. Unsure if it would have any impact otherwise). Lastly, I interrupted a caravan heading towards the castle with 6,000 currency. This caused the black mages and clerics to leave.

Once the city was mostly emptied, I stormed it from the top side of the map. I never destroyed any of the villages, attacked the trio of female axe fighters, or attacked the imp on the top of the map.

All and all, I really enjoyed the map. It just took a really long time to complete. Loving the pace of the game so far, I keep worrying that I'll be seeing the credits screen soon due to this only being part 1.

i'm currently on 13 as well! definitely loved seeing the new faces in chapter 12. and yeah MAN these promotion items are making me poor.

in regards to chapter 11:

i honestly didn't know half the interactions going on (can't speak nor read). i knew you could pay 1500 for the thieves to leave... but i ended up just killing everything. how were you dealing with the reinforcements outside the castle? for me, killing each of the villages would stop the reinforcements on that particular side, haha. anyway, did you know what purpose the imp was for? i seemed like it didn't affect anything within the castle

anyway, i'm definitely enjoying the gameplay so far! i feel like there's a tad overkill on the reinforcements, at times haha (chapter 12, im looking at u) :p

it's also hilarious how the dancer uses a "whip" animation lmao

I hear you on those reinforcements, they're starting to get a bit ridiculous. And yeah, the dancer animation is great x3. I'm in middle of Japanese II in University, so I can kinda make out some of the simple dialog and item names.

It looks like you can have a move growth in this game as well. Aineria(sp?) the purple haired sword dancer just got +1 more from her level up. Her 100% adept ability has been doing wonders for her damage output since her strength starts at 4 for promoted unit e.e

Chapter 11

Ahhh, I should have destroyed the villages! I took the route on the right and used my thief to close the bridge. Once I was out of range of the reinforcements, they were no longer trouble. Yeah, the imp is definitely doable, as his weapon drains your life, but can't actually kill anyone. I haven't tried yet though.

Chapter 13

This desert is getting to be such a slog. I lost Siegfried and Hilda in the middle of the chapter due to a cutscene. I stormed the castle in the middle for the optional objective but haven't yet gotten anything from it. I think you're supposed to take Siegfriend and open the red chest or something? Moving all my units to the escape point and ending the chapter now

Looks like chapter 14 has 20 units being deployed in 5 different parts of the map. This should be a wonderful time.

who's siegfried, btw? i was really upset that i couldn't get the chest qq. anyway, man chapter 14 really gave me a run for my money;i feel like i got punished for not training enough units. it was deceitfully easy, until turn 15 and then all the fun comes in. sleep staff priests & dragons ruining my day ;-;. it was a fun defense chapter, though!

also meredy becomes my first maxed out unit! even though promoted units have 60% exp gain, it still feels really fast to level up for me...

and man.. i saw chapter 15 and i was like ya not today @_@

Some quirks and questions, after fooling around in the Prologue.

1. Some weapons seem to expend 1 use when they miss while others don't. In the Prologue, the Short Sword, Longsword, Phalanx, Hand Spear, and Short Spear (all 1 range weapons, incidentally) don't expend uses when they miss, but the Pilum does when it misses at either 1 range and 2 range. (Yet to have tested with the Lordasral or Cutlass) Does this apply only to non 1-range-only weapons, and if so, to all of them? Or is it tied to specific weaponry or weapon types?

2. Troy's Adept skill seems to expend weapon uses when it activates and the attack hits.

3. When you level-up HP, it seems both your HP and max HP increases by 1, which is cool.

4. Has anyone tested how Zeid's Miracle (Prayer) skill works? The gist seems to be that when Zeid has less than (or equal to?) half-HP, his avoid increases, and the less HP he has, the more avoid he gets. A few tests seems to imply that the avoid increase formula may be something like 25+(MaxHP/2-HP)*2 (%), but can anyone confirm/disconfirm this?

5. What does the last option in the Configuration screen do? The game seems to indicate that it has something to do with mouse auto-tracking, but I'm not sure what this even means...

6. Is there a consistent EXP formula in this game, or is it completely case-by-case per enemy? I'm confused after killing one specific bandit with a slightly less-generic portrait suddenly gave the unit +100% experience gain (i.e. guaranteed level-up) but there's nothing in that bandit's stat screen to explain this anomalous EXP gain. I've done a few tests and this seems to happen regardless of the level of the unit I've used to kill that specific bandit...

7. I get that you don't get a game-over as long as the Fural trade vessel remains intact, but does getting a money reward at the end of the Prologue depend on the pirates not sinking any of the ships? I've managed to position one of my units in a way that doesn't let the Venecia trade vessel escape, so it just sank after the pirate destroyed it. Is there a difference in reward depending on whether the 2nd ship (the Venecian one) escapes, sinks, or (if possible) all the units arrive at the escape point before that even happens?

8. How are you supposed to read Zech's equipped weapon, シルヴァビルヒ? I get the Silver part but I can't find any references to actual weapon name that sounds remotely similar to ビルヒ...
