Fates Character Design Opinions (Final Day #37 - Arete, Sumeragi, Anankos)

I'd chalk it up to Iago pantsing them from the shadows, then just as quickly teleporting away.

"Hee hee hee, I'm soooo evil, they'd never suspect me of petty pranks! Notice me, Garon!"

Oh my god, this is my new headcanon for Fates.

Blame Iago.

Pineapple/Archer and Sniper

Besides being a pineapple, Takumi has a good design. I like the blues with the grays and whites, plus the little accent the red ribbons give is nice.

For the record, I do like his hair. It's just fun to make fun of.

His class animations are very nice. They're much more showy than the safe way every other Archer animation has been, which I very much like.

I do absolutely LOVE the attention to detail with the Fujin Yumi's arrow only popping up after he summons the bowstring, while the normal animation has the arrow twirling.

Blonde Marth/Dark Knight

Leo's design is the safest among the Royals, but also very nice for being simple. It works well with his personality I feel, even if I can't really put it into words.

Like his siblings, his black, gold and purple color scheme is very nice.

The Dark Knight's animations are just as bland and boring as Awakening's. Seriously, can they EVER make horseback tome users look interesting? FE6/7/8 did it right. (If PoR or RD did it right, I wouldn't know yet)

The Sword animation is the same as the Cavaliers. Not awful, just noting it.

Takumi

I really like Takumi's design. Whereas his siblings outfits are inspired by traditional Japanese armor and clothing, Takumi's outfit distinctly reminds me of a nomad tribe from Sacae. This alone makes him stand out from his siblings—and the other royal siblings as well. Interestingly also is that the color palette is of his clothing is predominately subdued blue, in contrast to the bright red his siblings has. His hair too contrasts against his siblings. Overall, I like Takumi's design.

Leo

Yep, Leo has a relatively simple design, but I think it fits him. Of the royal siblings, his design is my favorite. I quite like the detail of his armor and, of course, he has the same black, gold and purple as his siblings, with a navy blue as an accent color. His hair is adorable, along with his headband. I really like the magic particle effect of Brynhildr (even though that has nothing to do with him).

On a side note, PoR and RD didn't have tome wielding horseback units. They gave the only Valkyrie in game swords in favor of tomes.

#Blame

Not bad, not amazing. It bothers me that he breaks from the color convention of the other siblings (perhaps that hints at him being the odd one out of the family), both for his hair and outfit but it's hard to imagine his outfit in white/red. I like the deer/animal pelt he has on the waist, just like traditional Japanese mounted archers (why no nomads? :Sue: ) The white parts around his collar and boots don't look bad but they feel too fantasy western to me.

Blarth

Is Marth in this game? Another solid design, courtesy of Nohr's consistent armor aesthetic. Not much to say here beyond that the colors and armor look really good. Armor mage is best mage.

To finish off the royals we have the younger sisters, Sakura and Elise:

#9 - Sakura

A cute little design. Simple but nice looking and a suitable look for the shrine maiden class. The little hairpiece is cute and I like the shoes, a contrast to what the others had. I also like her animation where she does the little bow upon victory. It's suitable that her and Elise are not as heavily armoured as the others due to their roles as healers. It's also interesting how each Hoshidan royal has different hair colours while the Nohrian's have the same blonde hair except Camilla (Due to the multiple parents situation).

#10 - Elise

Also a cute design, but with a different flair. Like Takumi, Elise breaks the pattern of colour schemes with her black, pink and white getup, which makes for a striking design. Her hair is certainly more noticeable than Sakura's but I can only imagine how difficult it must be to maintain hair of such length and design. She has alot of bows on her to amplify her cute innocent design which suits her and I can imagine she chose to have them implemented. My only complaint would be with the dress in how it seems to be stuck in a cone like shape, similar to Lissa's but hers had the wire frame to keep it that way. Elise's seems to defy gravity, which also leads to some upskirt shots of her bloomers in the story and one of the cutscenes.

Sakura

Cute and traditional. Not much more to say.

Class animations for Shrine Maiden are simple in a good way. And, like it was said, the bow is cute.

For Priestess, they're much simpler Bow animations than the Outlaw/Archer trees, but it makes more sense since they're not supposed to be as skilled with Bows.

Also, I noticed that the generic Priestess has a half-chest armor and shoulder pad in the portrait, but no Priestess model, to my knowledge, has one.

Elise

Again, cute. Not really that much to say, although she really has a massive amount of hair.

I also really like the purple accents in the hair.

For the class, being a healer it is in the same place as Shrine Maiden where it's just a little animation that's simple, but works.

Strategist just has the Dark Knight tome animation which I already complained about so... yeah.

Sakura

I agree with you. Sakura has a cute shrine maiden design. It suits her. Not much as to say. Except that said, I wish her promotion (Priestess) outfit was that of the generic and not Mikoto's. It annoys me that she retains her red and white headband, but she wears a blue and white outfit.

Elise

Yep, her design suits her as well, particularly her ponytails. I also question how she maintains these things on a daily basis. I noticed that her outfit has several hearts throughout, possibly hinting that Elise is the "heart" of the Nohr siblings or symbolizing her kindness and yearning for peace within her country—or between her siblings, depending on which route is being played.

Wormslut Cardcaptor Forehead Sakura#39212

A little over designed in my opinion. I don't really like the band/belt things around the skirt and I think she'd look better without the cape. That said, I really do like miko outfits so I'm not complaining. The hair and cute accessory all come together pretty well. I like how she wears a blue ribbon like Hinoka.

Can I ask what the heck is going on with her pose in her official art? She looks like she's flying backwards, butt first.

Mah drills

A really cute outfit with lots of details. Somehow they managed to get every iconic girly thing on one dress. Hearts, ribbons and a rose. She has the black of the Nohrian family but she has a lot of white, perhaps to hint at her innocence. The pink is also a brighter color than the typical Nohrian purple. I like the fact that she added the highlights out of respect for her older sister. Mahoushoujo/10

The opposite of what's happening in Elise's official art. I assume both of them are caught mid-twirl; Elise bringing her staff back and around, while Sakura is bringing hers from overhead.

Or something like that. Look, it's official art. It's supposed to be dynamic and entertaining.

Alright, time to play catch up.

Pineapple Head (AKA Radditz AKA Meme Man AKA Takumi)

He looks more like a hunter. His outfit sets himself entirely apart from the rest of the Hoshidan royals, with the dominate color being blue instead of red or white. But it's also in the fact that he's the only one who wears actual furs, which suggests that he probably is a game hunter of some kind. Wouldn't it be hilarious if he hated bear meat like a certain other meme man in the series, though? He does make up for the dominance of blue with his white hair, except that also breaks from the norm of red and brown hair his relatives have (yes, I'm including Mikoto and Sumeragi in the mix). I do like him being overall different, since he sets himself apart both in his attitude and in the story.

Now, in regards to his animations... It's nice to see that archers get a bit of the spotlight. The archer and sniper animations are very elaborate, though I kind of find it funny that they do so many 360 spins given the culture of a certain genre of games. But all around, they're much more elaborate than previous games, and goddammit, it took them long enough.

But there's an extra matter to discuss in regards to his animations as well, and it's the Fujin Yumi. Rather than using traditional arrows, the Fujin Yumi spawns a magical arrow whenever the bow string is pulled. It basically fires laser arrows, which... isn't really something I see often in games. I like how the bow string is also made of this magical material. Also, during the victory pose, the archer normally holds an arrow in their hand, but with the Fujin Yumi, they just kind of hold their hand in the air there. All around my favorite royal weapon, especially since the buff it gives is pretty much the Trickster's Acrobat skill from Awakening, which essentially is a big "f*** you mountains".

Leonardo Da Vinci

Can I just go on-record to say I really love the dark knight design in this game? In spite of it being available to plenty of non-royals, it has a look of nobility while also having a tough and sturdy look. Basically an armored mage uniform, though I like the added cosmetics for the mount.

As for Leo himself, he has that European look like Xander does with his blonde, short hair. Yet he manages to look more calculating than stern. Perhaps it's the different headpieces. He looks best as a dark knight, obviously.

His animations aren't too elaborate. I mean, they're better than Nohr Noble's extremely stale tome/scroll animations, but they're not as cool and flashy as the dark mage/sorcerer animations. And yes, the sword animations are just the cavalier animations. Though I do like Brynhildr just summoning a freaking tree. I mean, of all things it could do with its masterful control of the earth beneath our feet - fling boulders at people, conjure jagged stalagmite to pierce a foe from the bottom up - it just summons small trees.

[insert name of mild porn visual novel with the name "Sakura" in it]

Also, there's a martial arts training dojo or whatever called "Sakura" in my town. Damn, Sakura, you're so famous, your name's everywhere! I think her looks do well to portray her timid and innocent heart. She shares the color scheme of the older siblings, but I think she represents Hoshidan ideals the best as a character. Anyway, I do like her design as well. Shrine Maiden is the best class for her both from a gameplay stance and a design perspective.

She has a more interesting staff/rod animation than most others. She does a little spin, sort of like a dance. The bow animations for the Shrine Maiden class are a bit more tame than the archer/sniper ones, but still are better than any of the ones from Awakening. I like that after firing, the force of the bow string is so strong that the bow itself actually spins around in her left hand 180 degrees each time she fires it. It might happen with other classes, but I just happen to particularly notice it with this class. I also find it funny that the dodging animation is just her shuffling backwards. It's oddly endearing.

That One Recital Song (Elise)

So now I finally get to talk about those cinnamon drills, among other things. Her dress is actually kind of similar to Sakura's, but it obviously has a distinct Nohrian twist to it. I think while Sakura's short hair reflects her relatively reserved personality, Elise's drills reflect her very outgoing and free-spirited personality. In fact, every bit of her design reflects that spirit, from her eyes to her boots. It's elegant, endearing, and has some flair. And I don't really get that "trying too hard to be cute" impression from her that I get from so many other cutesy characters in media.

The combat animations aren't anything to get excited about, though. The scroll/tome animations are the same blend of dull as the Dark Knight's (in fact, they probably are the same), and the staff/rod animation is just par. Nothing much more to say other than I find the sound she makes when she uses a staff to be oddly funny for some reason.

Now onto the servants, Felicia and Jakob:

#11 - Felicia

I was a bit off put with maids and butlers being in the game at first, but I have to say I've warmed up to them and I quite like them. Felicia's design is a nice mixture of cute (particularly her face) and neat (makes sense for a maid). Knowing what they could have done with the maid outfit I'm glad they restrained themselves with it. It's pretty much what I expect a maid outfit to look like. Her facial expressions I found to be quite charming, and I like the way her hair is done. What I like most about the maid's though is the animations. The little kick of the feet to fling the blade into their hands is stylish and I love when they get a crit and spin around for the kill.

#12 - Jakob

I'm digging the posh, professional attire of Jakob. The little diamond patterns, the scarf around his neck, the slick black and purple, it hits the right notes. His ponytail hair is an interesting choice, not an unfitting one by any means (He could join the Takumi ponytail fan club with that) and his facial features are more stern and serious in comparison to the dopiness of Felicia. I love the animations of the Butler. Their swift, shifty movements, the way they leap into their enemies, the effortless flinging of their daggers, they amuse me every time and remind me why I love it when Fire Emblem games gives me such over the top animations.

OH NO i missed some time to catch up!!

taco meat

Like the others have said, he looks more like a hunter than a warrior, but I like that. I think it helps to give him that unique look, not only to differentiate him but to maybe also symbolize how he chose a different path (archery over swordplay because of Ryoma). I like his long ponytailed hair, even if it caused 50000 pineapple memes to spread across the internet. The reds, blues, and whites complement each other so well. He definitely has one of my favorite designs.

layoh? leeoh?

His plated armor is simple enough, but it suits his closed-off personality very well. While he doesn't look as bulky and heavily armored as Xander, I think that helps to set them apart; Leo certainly sells the look of the intelligent prince in contrast to Xander's towering figure. His short blonde hair is adorable, and I'm not sure why he wears his circlet the way he does, but I just realized how odd it would look any other way. I also like the more angular parts of the armor, and Wow I just noticed how much I like his boots. Yeah, I like Leo's design a lot.

kinomoto cardcaptor

Sakura also has one of my favorite designs. Her hair is adorable, especially the headpiece, and the little dress with accenting ribbons is very princess-y. The design as a whole is soft and gentle on the eyes, just fitting for her character. Maybe I'm just a sucker for shrine maiden designs, but I really like this take of the traditional dress. Her cape-sleeves are really cute, too.

Für Elise

I think her design is generally more out-there and.... twirly to contrast to the darkness of both Nohr and her siblings' designs. Her outfit really stands out, if only because she's the only royal with a very girly shade of pink and giant pigtails. I really love the ribbon on her chest, I think it's my favorite part of the design. I think her boots are a little over-the-top (ribbons on boots just seems impractical and unrealistic, but of course this is just a game), but that's about it. All in all, her design is perfect for her personality and the role of the innocent sister she plays.

bye felicia

I really like the way maids are designed in Fates... or maybe I'm weak towards frills and dresses. But I love Felicia's colour scheme; the light pink hair, greenish-blue eyes and accenting brooch really pull the whole maid outfit together. I love the puffy sleeves, gloves, and headpiece, and the bottom half of the design is also pleasant to look at; I like the circular apron and the boots. I kind of wish her bangs were styled differently, but it still suits Felicia's clumsy personality.

jacornkob aka sebastian michaelis

I think Jakob's design is meant to be pleasing on the eyes just because of how symmetrical the entire outfit is. Maybe I only get this feeling because he's facing frontward in the art, but I really love how everything in the outfit just feels right. The diamond pattern, the buttons on his vest, the puffy sleeves and the gloves! I'm especially fond of the gloves for some reason. They kinda look like bear claws in the in-game sprites and it's endearing. I loved the braided ponytail the moment I saw it; at first I expected a butler's hair to be short and orderly, but the ponytail still looks formal and fitting for Jakob and I ended up being pleasantly surprised. now what the hell happened to dwyer's hair

Ah, the servants. When I first heard that we'd get servant classes, I was rather intrigued. I thought they'd be trainee classes like the villagers or whatever. Though what they've done with 'em is pretty interesting, as well. But I digress.

Felixia
I try way too hard to come up with a joke for every character, but to no avail. Ah, the classic French maid outfit. The center of a well-known fetish, which is often associated with subjects that are anything but French. Though the outfits that the maids in this game wear are actually much less sexualized than the usual French maid outfits you'll run come across in stores, which actually makes the maid design in this game more appealing to me. I guess it's as they say: less is more.

Felicia herself looks very nice in her default class. I think her looks compliment the dress she is given. She's very pretty and fairly cute. There are maybe a few imperfections with her hair, but they compliment her personality, I feel. And the stern expression she sometimes takes on in her portrait does convey a familiarity with war that Flora's facial expressions don't seem to convey (even though both characters look very similar), which reiterates the point (of which the game makes, not me) that Felicia's more inclined towards a soldier's life than Flora.

The only thing I can complain about with the maid animations is just the same for most staff/rod wielders, and it's that those healing animations are merely par. But aside from the "only okay" staff/rod animations, the actual fighting animations are like those of a master of dancing. Watching Felicia fight in her default class makes you forget that she's a total klutz because her fighting is so elegant and powerful, even when using flimsy, useless "weapons" such as chopsticks or loafs of bread. Even her throwing animation looks kind of cool. By the way, totally off-topic, but how exactly are you able to forge bread? Like, how does combining two loafs of bread with an ore make a sturdy weapon that's more powerful?

Little Jacob
Who remembers that guy from GTA IV? Anybody? Does anyone here even play those games? Another very well done servant design. Though his beginnings are shoddy and troubling, he comes out of them looking none the worse for wear. You don't actually get a good look at his ponytail too often. But when I do get to see his tail, it reminds me of those white wigs many European/American politicians and judicial officials wore in olden times. It actually makes him look fairly elegant, along with his dignified butler attire.

His animations are also pretty interesting. Swift and deadly, they do well to reflect Jakob's attitude towards his role as a military official. And his victory pose just screams (or quietly yells, since Jakob's not really the screaming type) "I'm a loyal butler", and I love it.

now what the hell happened to dwyer's hair

Obviously, Dwyer wants to spite Jakob by ruining his own hair as much as possible. Or he doesn't care about how he comes across to others. Though then again, Jakob doesn't care about that, either, except for when Corrin's involved in any way.

Felicia

Overall, I like her design, though her bang annoys the hell out of me for some reason. I can't really say much more about it.

Jakob

I seriously love Jakob's design. Especially his gauntlets. And that wonderful accent pulls it all together. Too bad we don't here any longer lines from him. The butler animations are a step above the maids', I have to say.

Blunt the knives and crack the plates, that's what Bilbo Baggins hates

Before Fates, had you asked me "should Fire Emblem have French maid outfits", I would have slapped you and sent you to your room to think about what you've done, but overall, I think they are tastefully done. Not completely modest but not too fetishy either. I like the feather trim around the back of the skirt and the gem on the chest.

I'm not a fan of Felicia's hair color or style. The even bangs and droopy eyes make her look derpy, but that fits her character.

Servant Archer

Another good design. Very elegant and the gauntlets hint at his combat ability. The thin ponytail gives him a look of nobility. Bonus points for both servants, they have the same color scheme as their lord.

By the way, totally off-topic, but how exactly are you able to forge bread? Like, how does combining two loafs of bread with an ore make a sturdy weapon that's more powerful?

Bread takes on metallic properties as it ages. Stale bread is somewhere between titanium and mithral on the hardness scale.

Next up, the two Hoshidan's that join you in all routes, Kaze and Mozu:

#13 - Kaze

Well he's got the ninja look down pat. Green is my favourite colour so Kaze's full green attire resonates greatly with me. The ninja look in general here is nice. The scarf, the japanese sandals, the wrist blades, they do their job in making a fine looking ninja. Although I have to wonder how safe it is to have blades on your wrists, I could see some things going wrong with them (Like armoured shoulder pads with spikes on them).

#14 - Mozu

An adorable little farmer gal. Similar to Donnel's attire in Awakening, Mozu's more plain attire makes for contrast in comparison to the retainers and royals outfits. A lot of brown and white for her simple dress and cape, but I quite like it. I like her little twintails of hair, along with the pinned flowers makes Mozu's design rather cute. The freckles are another nice touch (I can' recall if any other FE character had such a feature).

Honestly wasn't expecting a scientific explanation. But I guess a "thank you" is in order. It shall arrive at your doorstep at 4:30 am on a Monday in the form of a piece of cardboard with the words "thank you" written on it.

Krusty Kaze

One of the three (four, if you count child folk) ninjas, Kaze has the most reserved design of them. I'm inclined to like his design if only because green is a favorite color of mine. No, but seriously, ninjas do look pretty killer, and Kaze is no exception. I guess they had to make them look cool, since ninjas have made such a major impact on our cultures.

The animations are the most flashy of all battle animations. They take all the good from those animation tricks in anime (the ones where fighters are so fast, they appear to flash in and out of existence) and put them into this crazy (and insanely OP) class. Plus, they help me in imagining how exactly a scene plays out when they decide to "disappear".

Although I have to wonder how safe it is to have blades on your wrists, I could see some things going wrong with them (Like armoured shoulder pads with spikes on them).

I could see if they were swinging their arms back at someone how it could go wrong, but it'd be pretty hard for them to hurt themselves unless they bent their arms in ways people don't normally bend them. I suppose the purpose of them is so that if they were attacked and/or grabbed from behind, they could fight back easily. I'm obviously not a professional armorer, so I wouldn't know.

Mozu

Jesus, this girl is total cuteness overload. The little freckles, the eyes, the little flowers over her ears, the - I guess you'd say cowlick? - on the top of her head, and that little farmer gal dress... It's obvious they wanted you to look at this little gal and gush about how cute she is. And dammit, it worked. How could you hate this lovely lady?

And poor girl, with her animations. She's clearly frightened to death. It's a bit endearing, but I also feel really bad for putting her on the battlefield and forcing her to fight, especially since I often have her fight by baiting enemies. I just look at her and think "she doesn't belong here". But then I train her and things die as soon as she pokes them, so then I feel she doesn't belong there for entirely different reasons. Behind all the cute looks and support convos, there's a demon hell bent on destroying everything.

The freckles are another nice touch (I can' recall if any other FE character had such a feature).

I believe there was a girl who had freckles in one of the GBA games. I don't think she was a very popular character, though. I think it's safe to say Mozu's the first in a long time to have freckles.

I really liked her animations as a villager. Just that beginning with the head shaking and hesitation made so much sense for someone of her background and gave me a giggle every time.

Not many opinions on the two above i see. Guess we'll see if these two Nohrian knights can get something going, Silas and Gunter:

#15 - Silas

That hairstyle of his reminds me of a character from Bravely Default. His design is simple for a knight but works for him. The blue mixed with the slick black armour I find works quite nicely, especially being a pale blue to contrast with his bright blue hair. Although him holding that javelin in his picture there reminds me of how silly those javelins looked.

#16 - Gunter

It's nice to see some more older characters in the latest games as they seem to be a rarity these days. He's definitely got the look of a veteran of war. He's got a very authoritative look to him and looks quite fearsome with the black armour and black armoured horse getup. The purple cloth around his waist does add some variety to his gear. A solid look for a character who should have gotten more supports.

Are you sure it wasn't Dorothy? I don't think any of the main characters do, but I'm pretty sure there was at least one playable character who did somewhere in the series, and I'm pretty sure it was in one of the GBA games. Though I think I also recall some of the commoners having freckles.

Not many opinions on the two above i see.

People could be busy with stuff. Busy with work. Busy worrying about political events. There seemed to be a bit of a lack in activity today (and yesterday) on this forum.

Silas

No jokes come to mind at this point. How 'bout dat hair, tho? I do like his color scheme. It makes me wonder why most Nohrians don't share the color scheme when Silas - a simple knight - has it. It's pretty spiffy. If you'll notice, his armor is accented with silver instead of gold, the latter color of which accents the royals' (except Elise) armors, as well as more professional characters' armors, such as some of the retainers. I just think it's kind of a neat touch, which only leads me to further wishing that Nohrian troops shared the color scheme in some respect.

I won't talk about his animations, as they're the same as the paladin ones.

They don't call me GUN-ter for nothing

I'll never not reference that joke. When was the last time (remakes aside) that we got to actually use an old man? And I mean a really old man, not middle-aged or whatever. Wasn't it in Sword of Seals, with Hector's retainer?

Very Jeigan-esque design, but I actually like Gunter's appearance more. But then again, in Jeigan's original appearance, it looked like half his face was melting off. So it isn't like it's too difficult to make a prettier face than Jeigan's, though he admittedly has improved substantially since then. I guess at this point, it more comes down to a preference in colors and art styles.

His armor is very unique. Of course, it's a similar design to the generic Great Knight design, but there are clear differences, the most noticeable being the color scheme, which again, I wish was applied to more than just one unit. The horse also has a different color scheme, which is good. But the model itself is slightly different, as well. There are a few extra pieces to his gear, and the armor is a little differently shaped than the generic armor.

Believe it or not, Great Knight animations are different from the other cavalier animations. They're... interesting. With blades and blunt weapons, the first strike is a downward slash, and the second strike is a clockwise spin, then diagonal slash. The lance animations are close to the same as regular cavalier ones, but slightly different. They aren't all that impressive either, but props for variety, I guess.

I have some catching up to do:

Leo - probably does have the best armor. I love the pretentiousness of his collar; it suits his personality. His skirt should've probably been mandatory for all people wearing Nohrian armor; it's much better than what Xander or Silas have going on.

Takumi - by far my favourite design in the game; it all comes together so nicely, even if parts seem a little ridiculous by themselves. Overall, perfect.

Elise - waist-up I like her design; waist-down, I don't. I suppose the boots fit with the overall design, but they look overly fussy and uncomfortable. Her hair; how does that even work?!

Sakura - her cape is great. Love the collar shape and that it's not too long. The blue bow at her waist is a nice pop of contrasting color.

Felicia - would probably stab herself in the ankles 100 x a day. I like the way the shirt forms a heart at the waist.

Jakob - I love his waistcoat and collar - suitable for a butler, yet different. The sleeves and gauntlets look good and serve as a nice nod to the other Nohrian designs. I'm not sure I'd want a butler wearing such pointy gloves. His crotch (or lack thereof) concerns me.

Kaze - other than his arm-blades, his design seems fairly standard and nothing to write home about, to me. The green color scheme is very nice; subdued, and would help him fade into the background.

Mozu - I love her dress, and she looks very comfortable. I wish her design could change once she's reclassed, though; it's funny to have her portrait be 'nervous villager' when she's my little sniping, killing machine. The gap in her boots between the toe and the shin would surely be hideously impractical for farming; standard boots would've been much better.

Silas - I agree with Ertrick above that it's a very nice touch to have the armor be so similar to the Nohrian royals', only with silver accents instead of gold. I appreciate the non-spiky gloves and I love color of his sleeves.

Gunter - I agree, his design is solid. The purple skirt adds some flare and his armor seems a little more practical than most; the shoulder pads aren't excessively large, for example. I bet he could store a few snacks under his hip plates.

Also, if anyone is interested in a small kid's opinions, my 4 year old gave her assessment of the royals:

Xander - his sword looks cool. Just his sword... I guess his shirt is pretty cool, too.

Ryoma - I like his boots, I guess. I don't like his body.

Camilla - you KNOW she's my favourite! Camilla has my favourite design. I love her purple hair. Can you make me an outfit like her?

Hinoka - no, I don't like her design. I like her hair, but not anything else.

Leo - I LOVE LEO. I love his whole shiny armor.

Takumi - I really like him. I like his bow and I like all of him. All of his body. He's just really cool.

Elise - oh, she is SO cute. Oh, I just love her. I love Elise.

Felicia

Adorable as hell. I love the pink-ish hair, and generally the maid outfit is cute. Can't say much more than anyone else.

Maid animations are nice. Simple healing animation, bows after combat, and it overall feels like it fits the class.

Jakob

Nice, clean design. Nothing too flashy, although I find the idea of Jakob cleaning the dishes with his gloves on hilarious.

The butler animations are very nice. They look very trained and poised while fighting, it's almost hilarious.

(I'll finish the others later)

Next up, Sakura's retainers, Hana and Subaki:

#17 - Hana

Hana's one of my favourite design's in Fates. Her flowing brown hair, the headband, her outfit, it all clicks. It's also interesting to see a myrmidon class with chest armour as apposed to just all leather clothing. She's a mixture of beautiful and traditional, and I like her pink/white/dark purple colour scheme, it suits her. The samurai animations are pretty good, from the way they pull out their sword to the satisfying crits they pull off (the kick and slice combo being my favourite). I also like her victory pose, sword in sheath, hands on hips, superiority over her foes.

#18 - Subaki

Our first male pegasus knight. It seems like ponytails are popular in Hoshido as Subaki's also rocking that look. His look in comparison to the female counterpart doesn't seem too major except he wears pants instead of the dress that they get (Which would be bizarre if he wore that). The blue/white colours are nice and I like the shoulder pads, Gold and black is a winning combo. Another minor detail I like is the diamond pattern he has on the boots, which while hard to notice in battles are a neat touch.

Kaze

I quite like Kaze's design, especially because the primary color is green. I always assumed the blades on his forearms were meant to stab enemies that were in close proximity of him. I'm not a fan of his circlet, though. It fits him, but, at the same time, it irks me.

Mozu

I love love love Mozu's design. She is such a cutie-patootie. Her adorable freckles and her cute dress and those darling white flowers in her hair. Her Villager animations are really cute as well. It's quite ironic as she is often branded as the KILLager.

Silas and Gunter

I pretty much agree with what has been said about their designs. No much for me to add.

Hana

I agree with you about Hana's design. She has a very cute, feminine touch to her outfit that I appreciate. The pink, white, blue and gold color scheme is really nice. Too bad I don't like much else about her.

Tsubaki

I like this design, particularly his face (as shallow as that is) and his hair. I have a fetish for characters with red (and pink and purple) hair. While I do like the color scheme, I find it a little bland. Overall, I really like the male pony armor.

Time to catch up on everything

Takumi - his ponytail is fucking glorious. I like that he has a different color from the rest of the fam, as he feels somewhat isolated from them. It's nice design in general.

Leo - Pretty nice. It works for him. Not really much for me to say but I think it fits.

Sakura - I like her hair and headband, I'm not a fan of the inward-pointing thigh-highs aesthetically Fates seems to like putting everywhere, but that's a preference thing.

Elise - I like the color theme - the touch of pink shows her innocent against the dark of the nohrian royal tones, which is very fitting for her. I feel like her drills made her look like Lissa and Maribelle had a lovechild. Not a fan of how the skirt fans out, and aforementioned thigh high thing Sakura also has. I also don't like it when horse units don't wear pants--I saw some proto-Elise sketches with cute bloomers and I much prefer those, wish they went with them alas

Felicia - As far as maid outfits go this one ain't bad.

Jakob - Okay I really fucking like suits. Butler outfits are kinda my weakness. He also has long hair (!!!!) If only Jakob wasn't an ass.

Kaze - the first I looked at him I was like, "wow this guy has a nice face". The ninja outfit is alright.

Mozu - It fits her character well.

Silas - His armor is good. I'm not a fan of the hair, but tastes etc.

Gunther - Probably one of my favorite designs in the game. As mentioned before, I'm drawn to more complex designs and he wears that Great Knight armor so well. I love the detailing and the palette and the custom fit and just the kind of dignity he commands with it. It works well for him as a character AND it aesthetically pleases me. Plus more old people is good.

Hana - It's cute. I do think her colors look good with each other, though, so some solid color choices. Although she is a tomboy, the choice in traditionally feminine colors here reflect her love of cute things, so it fits.

Tsubaki - look have I mentioned I love guys in long flowing ponytails because I really do and Tsubaki does it in red which is the next best color from black I really like his entire face/head design ok

Clothing wise though I wish it was a bit more customized from standard peg uniform colors. Perhaps the stickler to standard palette is a reflection of his perfectionism in sticking with protocol or something, but on a personal level I prefer more customization from class designs in general.

His hair style, though. Fucking love.
