Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past

I just started doing classes-Hero as Warrior, Maribel as Mage, and Ruff as a Priest. Even before changing into a mage, she was still rather squishy.

There's no way you can beat those bandits without some kind of all-enemy-targeting attack. It'll take you way too long and outpace your MP reserves.

So yeah, Boom (Mage) or Lightening (Sailor) is your best bet for ending it fast with minimal grinding

Is there like...any tips or tricks to lucky panel?

Write things down in Excel, obviously. Don't trust your memory.

For your initial 6 cards, do the bottom row and the rightmost in the row above that. The shuffle and extra cards are located near the end more often than not.

That moment when that strategy works to net you the extra go, but then the second card you flip shuffles the entire deck.

Yeah, after this bout I'm going to start save-scumming. Unfortunately, I seem to lack excel on this pc, so I've taken to snapshots on my phone.

Do you have a Google account? Google Sheets works just as well.

If you're doing the Pilgrim's Rest past one, Woodus asked his son to make a site app to help out, to be updated with later casinos at some point.

Yeah, I've got Google.

Also...Woodus has a son? I mean, I figured the dude was kinda gettin' on in years, but I wasn't expecting that.

He has at least two children based on the wording of the post the link came from. The one that made the app was the oldest son.

Other than missing the stone axe, the leather armour, and the poison moth knife icons, that app's pretty swell so far. XD

Edit: I'm starting to wish this had been in the older Dragon Quest games. Like, holy smokes, it seems almost broken the payout you could potentially get.

So the 'Legendary Hero' of old is a cool old dude. What's more, he's a party member. And the game just put like on the table, 'because screw it all, I have a good story'.
This twist was Glory of Heracles level of awesome !

Though he really should have some level in vocations.

Aira, at least, have maxed Dancer and three level on Soldier, it's nothing compared to the team but still.
And an awesome sword to boot.

Rip you-know-who, the moment I started to found her cool, she got away... with her spells, 8 level in Sage, and at this to start Luminary.

Ruff maxed Pirate and Monster Masher, and holy crap, he is doing the job so good, it's incredible, Melvin is Gladiator, and he is not half as good, contrary to the hero.

He is now starting Priest, because the team really need a healer now.

Melvin starts at level 19, so he's extremely easy (if Time consuming) to train on the Slime Forest Tablet (He learned most classes asof now).

He is more a mage pretending to be a knight. His Wisdom and MP is even better to Maribel. His Defnce is awesome, but his equipment is... wierd (he can have the best defensive Equipment, but misses many of them inbetween). He can makes a great Paladin or Armamentalist. And he's the slowest character. His strength is the second best one, but due to limited Equipment, Aira may be better offensively.

Due to how slow he is, he's not being really usefull outside both battle, since ennemies not beaten by Ruff or Maribel are beaten by the MC.

Maribel has better Wisdom and MP than Melvin, what.

But yeah, Melvin leans mostly toward "Squishy wizard type" to a slightly lesser extent than Miss Tsuntsun, but still the second most out of the party. I ditched him for Maribel in the PSX version when I gained choice powers.

Though, word of advice:

There's a point where Melvin must make it through the Present version of the Lighthouse north of Buccanham by himself (and maybe the Den of Dwarves), so make sure he's got Priest mastered quickly and a good class when you go to resurrect God, iirc.

In this version, stats are somewhat randomized, so it may not be as clear cut, but, yeah, at equal level, he's better.

LV 21 PSX Version Maribel VS Melvin :

MP : 84 VS 103

Wis : 74 VS 89

Lv 30 PSX Version:

MP : 120 VS 138

Wis : 95 VS 108

Lv 99 PSX Version :

MP : 800 VS 880

Wis : 420 VS 500

And the only thing that may make him squishy is the fact he's underleveled (and maybe Equipment), but even then, he's remarkably durable (still using my PSX data, but the difference shouldn't be that significant). Level 30 Maribel is only marginally better than Level 21 Melvin (baring Equipment, again). Level 30 : 260 HP and 48 Defence, MC have 220 HP and 40 Def (but better eqipment). He still is one of the top 3 most bulky character (the thirrd is Aira with 200 HP, 48 Defence, but fantastic Equipment.).

Hm, I suppose that making him Paladin would be even better ? He have maxed Gladiator, and now I'm making him Priest.

Melvin is slow, and Maribel have whips, but he really is doing his job as a magic user.

Okay so someone discovered a bug that breaks your save.

http://www.woodus.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35044

To avoid it: make sure all cutscenes trigger before you leave an area, apparently. The cause of the glitch appears to be contradictory party-checks.

I decided to (finally) take a look at this, it's worrying, hopefully, it seems random, so I might not get it.

It's almost unforgiveable for such a long game to have a bug like that. :/

Basically, the morable seems to be: trigger all cuscenes as soon as you can, and especially before Maribel come back, am I correct ?

Seems to be the case. Pretty severe back-in-time glitch.

And if he is Paladin, he can later become God Hand, which is pretty fitting.

I'm at the last pillar, phew ! I did not even realized it was the last one !

The moment with the priest.was sad, annoying (how the heck can those villagers hit, let alone defeat the team in the first place ?...) and awesome at the same time. Seeing those kids having a flash of morality was just too good.

So the priest was the same one who lost his memory, am I wrong ?

GodHand was changed to Champion this translation.

Same here Which is very weird, because the hightest Gladiator level is called Champion too.

It's sad, Godhand sounds so badass,

The Priest in the town covered with fog (forget the new name, old one was Labres), was indeed the one who dies in Probina/Providence.

You're really going fast. I'm only at Madra/Hubble right now.

God Hand is a really fitting name, with the Healing/Fighting combination.

Almost 60 hours of gameplay, 60 good hours.

I'm at present Coastal, doing the casino, I have zero idea of the use of this tablet, but I bought it. Emptied my gold pouch though, but it doesn't matter.

... though if it's a generic item thingy, I'll be mad. The beeper is still beeping.

Seems obvious, but here's a question about Sharkeye...

Sharky and Any had an unborn kid.

Sharky is stuck in ice with his ship, the King of sea proposed to Anise to be a Mermaid, so she could wait for him.

Alas, mermairds can't have kids, but,the King specifically say that the unborn child will just have a peaceful life somewhere else, protected by the spirit of water. And that he would inherit the mark that Sharkeye had.

The hero have the mark.

Then there's also the obvious hints, Anise confounding the hero with Sharkeye, the Seasnake Saber that only the hero can equip..

This is exactly what I think this is, right ?

Holy crap. if it is, this is awesome.

[spoiler=Hero's backstory]Yes, The protagonist is Sharkeye and Anais's son. This is never outright stated, more of a pieces put together thing, but it's actually implied he might not be Polluck and Pearl's kid very close to the start of the game. Polluck notes that he was born far, far earlier than should be viable while being perfectly healthy regardless.

Long story short the Hero is involved in a Changeling Fantasy with mind screw mechanics.
