Let's Talk FE15

Bring magic back to its former glory (variety, mostly)...

Don't make weapon/magic hybrids the only choice for class changes...

Things like Griffon and Kinshi Knights should become their own class or not get put in at all (they made no sense...)

Marriage and children should only be put in if they can be done reasonably (e.g. a time skip in the narrative, like with FE4)

Durability should come back (it was way too easy to load up on things like iron and steel weapons and beat the game with them, just so I wouldn't have to worry about buffs and debuffs)

Secret characters should come back (seriously, why was this left out when it had been in so many other games before it?)

Don't lock characters behind DLC, even if it does seem in character for them. Heck, ditch DLC altogether and just make unlockable ingame, but difficult to do so...

Either let the player choose the background for the avatar (without all the player worship), or have them be like a playable FE7 Mark... The avatar is supposed to immerse the player in the story, yet it's difficult to do that if the story for the character is already preestablished...

Remove obvious fanservice (I'm looking at you, Camilla, but also the entirety of the Private Quarters)

One other thing I'd like to potentially see in later games in general is "My Castle" to be more like the Suikoden series, where you'd get more features and shops depending on how many characters you recruited and they all had specific things to do at the castle.

(In Suikoden you also got characters who ONLY did castle stuff but I don't think we'd need that for FE, but maybe that could be brought back in the form of actually having a good amount of houses and villages to visit again).

Perhaps a thing IS can do is to create a "core story" (no unnecessary arcs, branching paths, or what have you) so that the game's plot can have a clear focus. The player would have to clear the "core story" first (for first playthrough) no matter what if he or she wants to access extra (or New Game) content such as extra missions, sidequests, or DLC that may expand upon the core story or the game. In terms of production, the core story would have to be written first before any of the extra content can be written.

Just throwing ideas around.

Personally I mostly like how FE is going gameplay-wise, so most of my wishlist would have to be about the story and world-building.

Story

  • Make the focus on a conflict between multiple human nations, with as little supernatural stuff as possible.
  • No evil giant empire fighting a bunch of good little kingdoms. The conflict should be waged for different reasons by different nations.
  • Events occur elsewhere that the main party reacts to, rather than us dealing with everything personally.
  • No avatar. Maybe another Mark, but I'd like the cast to not be centered around a player-insert.
  • The main lord should be like Marth, Roy or Elincia. They take their status as nobility more seriously and actively participate in politicking.
  • Alternate paths that have tangible effects on the story like in FE8, affecting the final ending for certain characters and nations.

World-Building

  • Make human-human interaction between soldiers, civilians, nobles, commoners, and such a big focus, so we can get a feel for how our events are shaping the world. Base conversations would be a good way to accomplish this.
  • More houses and villages. Allow us to explore the world as we fight.
  • An actual world map and narration that show what's going on before each chapter.

Gameplay

  • Remove forging. I think that's the biggest issue with Fates's weapon system besides a few balancing tweaks to certain weapons.
  • Fewer useless class skills and personals.
  • More objectives like in Conquest.
  • Map design that encourages multiple smaller groups rather than one big death-ball.

I think this is a good idea, have characters like the merchant group in Radiant Dawn

And speaking of Radiant Dawn, it'd be cool if they decided to mix My Castle with the Base Camp stuff from the Tellius games (base conversations and all).

Yeah actually, I like that. Let's combine that all into one (FE12's base training could even also be put in for the people who liked that too).

Just make it fun and I'm game.

I don't care too much about story, as long as it's entertaining. Nor do I care about easier difficulties, fanservice, etc...

I'm not very pessimistic so I have high hopes for the future of the series.

This so much. It's such a useful tool for conveying information and setting tone. There's absolutely no reason why it should ever have disappeared in the first place.

My first though actually went to the likes of Shannon and Oifey in Holy War but the merchants are just as good a point. There's plenty of non combatant roles in war so I wouldn't at all be opposed if you could "recruit" some during the game for My Castle benefits.

Things I'd like to see removed:

Children: No more time travel or Babyrealms, if you are going to have child characters, the first generation has to either die, age up or become the second generation's villains.

Cheesy villains: I didn't mind Formortis, because in Eirika's path I didn't care and in Ephraim's he was executed rather smartly.

Ashinard became a lot scarier in hindsight with knowledge from Radiant Dawn.

But I just straight-up hate most of Awakening and Fates's villains with few exceptions (Walhart and post-Hidden Truths Anankos being the primary two exceptions).

Speaking of appearances, I want adult builds back for MU. Facial hair for dudes and boob sliders for dudettes would be fantastic, too. That's actually something I missed from Awakening.

And while they add the boob slider, they should add a dong slider. I didn't say this earlier, but if they do allow customization options let us go crazy on them. I want my Dozla Beard facial hair

Why wouldn't it be?

mobile games aren't typically considered full installments of a video game series

although even then we know nothing about it so you still can't say anything about it for sure

Technically Conquest is FE15 while Birthright is FE14 (Revelation doesn't get a number).

Technically BR/CQ/RV are 14A/14B/14C respectively, because route splits, ya know.

Are we really arguing about numbering shenanigans.

FE14 is all 3 routes, Mobile is likely going to be like BSFE where it can count if you want it to, but not really, unless they directly say Mobile is FE15.

Is a phone game even comparable in content to a mainline series game?

It is nowadays. Big console games get ported to mobile all the time, as well as mainline entries getting released on mobile.

Super Mario Run is a pretty big game considering it's only $9.99.

They should reward low turn counts with hardcore pornography.

Of good-looking men :P:

In terms of things like actual mechanics, either tone down the Seal skills, or don't spam them on enemies (Chapter 20 Conquest, I am looking at you). I didn't care for Stat Inflation FE.

Change the forge system, since the one present in Fates isn't that great, bring back the base conversations becaause they allowed for more world building and it allowed the player to see what a character tought about the actual situation or even something else.

Those are my only requests, since I'm not vey esigent in terms of gameplay, really.

Personally, my greatest wish is to see a story that is directed and written by Yasumi Matsuno focuses primarily on the conflict Itself and how the different kingdoms and their citizens reacts to it, but i may be asking too much.

Pretty sure that's more Stat Deflation. :P

And is there any hint from IntSys as to what they number Fates internally? Because that would be something worth noting, but it'll still likely be FE15 as the next game to everyone else. And on that, does anyone think that difficulty would be raised in the next title?
