Horatioactive414
Yeah, I'm going to post all of my (passable) battle sprites here because why the heck not. Maybe I'll be popular, I dunno. I generally consider them to be at least above-average.
Horatioactive414
Sprite post I-Working on: In the progress of revamping: http://i.imgur.com/sZq2sxo.gifv (no preview 'cause it's too big of a gif to display)
Horatioactive414
Sprite Post II- What's new Revamp. Fiddling with palettes. I was trying to go with a Nomad-like color scheme for the first one. What I really like about this is the unenthusiastic and resentful look it gives off(without an eyebrow like the mercenary, that gives a more confident vibe), since that's exactly what I was going for as a character. The coat needs better shading, however. The sister of the earlier character. Because she's a dancer, I tried to go with a leaner look but not with one-pixel wide arms, as she is a swordfighter as well. I'm surprised I managed to convey wild hair as well as I did, and I'm overall happy with it. It manages that balance between strong and quick Lyn nearly achieved. Nearly. What I'm aiming for in the future: Dynamic and emotional poses, not just standing straight up, weapon(s) in hand. Giving off a look for battle really adds personality, whether it be the Mercenary's hand on his hip or the Pirate leaning over in the enemy's face, eager to fight. Currently working on the May revamp as my main priority.
DH_Ninja
These last ones are really neat. I'm digging it a lot.
Horatioactive414
Ooh, thanks. I'm currently halfway done with May's animation. Sadly, I couldn't make the old critical due to memory leaks, so it's gonna take much longer to conceive a new one.
Horatioactive414
Sprite post III-Recently found this in my old animations folder:It was probably meant to be a third-tier promotion for May or something.MASSIVE(get it) gif alert: [spoiler=Big Stuff] I used to have an infatuation with Zephiel-scale sprites back in the day. Progress on the May revamp: Original: Edited December 19, 2016 by Horatioactive414
Glaceo
When I think of the name Horatio I think of the rat from the Nutshack lol I really like your animations, they're smooth and cool, also your shading is pretty unique, albeit pillow-shaded. (honestly I think youre the rare exception of doing pillow-shading and making it look nice lol)
Horatioactive414
Heh. Horatio was actually the reason why I chose this username, I usually go by Ratioactive414.
Horatioactive414
Sprite Post IV- More old stuff: Nautre and Erutan, the Cain and Abel of my hack. Made these back when I was still sorta bad, but they still flow really well. Also, the revamp is godly so far, but I can't manage to recreate the first slash and windup without making it look less awkward. Any ideas? Horatioactive414
10/10 windupNo, seriously, this is probably the best I've done. I really like the spontaneous-ness of it.EDIT: Then there's this:[spoiler=Cheeky frame] I don't feel right. Toa
You really need to work on your pillow shading, as well as your colors. It looks kinda like you're using mug colors for your skin shades when you should be using bs colors. Everything is also super pillowy, you don't need to AA everything, I think that's contributing to your problem.
Horatioactive414
Trying to balance the colors out a bit, since I don't want the leather to be too light it looks like skin and the skin to be too dark it looks like leather. EDIT: People use mug colors for palettes? I've never actually heard of anyone doing that. CobyTheGoober
You also need more contrast between the shades. Specifically the greens and browns.
Horatioactive414
Yeah, I was going for a Lyn-like shading style earlier, since it made the clothes stand out in an interesting way without making it shine too much. The colors I'm currently working with are temporary, though.
Horatioactive414
Completely ditched the old shading and redoing it because why not.

Gentleman_Like
Your animations look great! The animations go very smoothly and I also like the type of shading you use for the sprites, it's very interesting and unique. I can't wait to see more from you! Horatioactive414
Thanks. I'm no BwdYeti or anything, but I'm one of the few people who animate the majority of their standing sprites in their subforums, so yeah. i'm a special snowflake
Horatioactive414
[spoiler=MORE Palettes!] \ EDIT: All the purple ones belong to Brahm's mercenary group, the brown ones are generic bandits and the green Nomadic Trooper is part of a certain tribe of albinos. Glaceo
you dont have to edit the entire spritesheet, the first frame is all you need for recoloring, but I gotta say, I'm happy there's more people editing the entire palette, not just the clothing/hair
Horatioactive414
Yeah, I always thought the skin colors were sampled terribly. The two white pixels on most faces were barely readable, since the skin shade was so light. The weapons were way too blue to qualify as metal as well. Horatioactive414
Yet another palette I won't even use because I already have a revised Mercenary animation: [spoiler=watch out]
CobyTheGoober
@At the merc animation That critical flip makes no sense. He's spinning in mid air.
Horatioactive414
To be fair, nothing about the Mercenary makes sense. I threw together the frames pretty quickly too, I plan on changing it.
Horatioactive414
Marth sprite I made on the Ft. Mangs discord. Nothing special, since Marths are a dime a dozen nowadays...
