What's the Umayyad's decadence level?

Well, every single Muslim character has a Decadence %. But the one that matters for the Umayyad as a whole is the Sultan's. He currently (as of today's update, not where I am in the game) has it in the 10's. Which means slight bonuses to morale and stuff, but manageable.

Chapter XIV – Birth of a Lion

September 14, 807AD – November 23, 812AD

Spoiler

So, a new Sultan oversees the Umayyad. Almost right off the bat I see he changes the capital to North Africa, to Tlemcen. Changing a realm’s capital is something that can only be done once per character, or through special decisions/events. I can only imagine the logic behind the move, but I guess it can be a good thing in the long-run.

October 4

Today’s an eventful day, so let’s go over things one at a time.

CKII%2014-1.png

First, we fought off the raiders. We captured their leader, Hroðulfr, a vassal from the Chiefdom of Halland. I can’t ransom him, so he’ll be my prisoner for a while.

Next order of business is crafting a new plot. This time the target will be Emir Bahir of Toledo. He’s the current heir of Sultan Jabir. Speaking of, the Sultan has now declared war! He wants to take over Castile. Well, we won’t allow that!

I already have my levies raised, but what I do instead is dismiss them then call forth my own and my vassal’s, and move them to Molina. I must play defensively here, but also need to gather warscore, so might as well siege something.

October 24

Since being attacked by the Umayyad means a boost to my vassal’s opinions of me, Countess Vistravara has left the ICP, with Prince Alfontso becoming its new leader.

In addition, the Bretons are once more coming to my aid, starting with Count Gestin of Kernev. Now if only they could chain their levies with mine... speaking of, mine have started to arrive at Molina. They will continue to do so the following weeks.

October 29

CKII%2014-2.png

Remember way back when I mentioned about favors? Well, time to finally explain a little about them. Favors are basically sure-fire ways to ensure other characters do something we want them to, as long the game allows it for. In this case, Count Pedro owed Prince Alfontso a favor, and now Alfontso has finally made use of it by making Pedro join the factions, whether Pedro may’ve wanted or not. Honestly, I’ve yet to be on the receiving end of being asked a favor, so I don’t know if it can be refused, and the consequences if we can. For now, Pedro has rejoined the ICP.

December 26

CKII%2014-3.png

Oh, that’s not good. I’m guessing it’s due to Fruela leading troops. My guess, though. Hmm, regardless it’s making me consider, on hindsight, if I should really have the Kings take on the battlefield from now on. I’m not shaping them up to Martial, anyway, so why bother. Ah well, it’s going to take a while for that.

Now to see what 808AD brings…

Something not good, for now over 4K Umayyads are coming this way! Fortunately, I'll have defensive terrain bonuses, and the Umayyad don’t have all their soldiers yet in a single stack.

January 13

And so, now that they have arrived and attack, they’ll come in waves. Let’s see if that makes them more manageable.

January 19

The people of Valladolid have changed from Visigoth to Castilian. Ah, good, good.

January 21

Another Breton chiefdom, Domnonia, has come to my aid.

February 4

CKII%2014-4.png

The battle at the Wilayah of Molina was won… but man, look at those casualty numbers. At least we managed to defeat a lot of enemy soldiers at once as well. Warscore gets a big boost, to 39%.

Now, my plan for now is to go to where the Breton levies are, and see if I can chain them to mine.

March 19

In unfortunate news, Prince Theodoricho, one of Fruela’s brothers and the one I sent to start the mercenary company, has died a mangled mess. Sheesh. The mercenaries are still under my ownership, though, with the new leader being one of their commanders.

April 4

CKII%2014-5.png

Well, the 10 prestige is nice and all, but… well, two things.

One, I didn’t send the kid there, since it was automatic due to her mother’s death and how succession worked over there. And two, he has developed the Envious trait (and like his brother, Intrigue is not his best stat). Sure, totally a good “decision” of mine.

April 29

My levies and the Breton levies have finally met in Navarra. Let’s see if they do chain…

May 3

The Umayyad have sent a 1.3K stack to siege Valladolid.

May 13

Our gold is finally over 700, fulfilling the War Chest ambition. Now to build more Militia Training Grounds, this time in Valladolid. And as I sent my troops to Valladolid, to my disappointment I see the Bretons have not chained. Well, they’ve chained between themselves, but not to my levies. Ah well, let’s see if I can manage.

As a just in case, though, I hire mercs, the Lombard Band. I’ll sent them to Valladolid as well.

May 15

And now the Count of Léon (another Breton county) has joined. Bah, what’s the point if they’re not sending their levies where I need them!

June 6 – June 11

Another event about a Count slandering me has pop up. It’s Prince Alfontso. As with previous cases, I choose the one to threaten exposure, but unfortunately it didn’t work. Since we’re currently at war, I don’t dare to try to imprison him.

July 21

My levies and the mercs reach Valladolid to attack the enemy. But I also notice the Umayyad have a 3K stack dangerously close. Fortunately, they don’t seem to be changing course towards me.

August 7

CKII%2014-6.png

A much better outcome, mostly thanks to the numeric superiority. Warscore is now 48%. Now I must maneuver my levies carefuly, considering the other Umayyad army nearby.

August 28

CKII%2014-7.png

An interesting event. The top options simply reverse who gets the +15 and -10. As such, I prefer to favor the Church. The Baron will simply give me less gold. The Bishop can potentially give me none, since he could instead start to give his money to the Pope. Admittedly, I didn’t check if that was going to be the case, but well, it’s just 2 years.

September 13

Raiders have come to Viscaya. Unfortunately, I can’t spare soldiers there.

September 15

My soldiers start to siege Tulaytulah, only to see the now 4K Umayyad stack is coming this way!

September 27

And now we’ve come under attack! They have around 1K more soldiers, but Valladolid has a river. Rivers give terrain penalties for the attacker. The river thing only applies for certain interconnected counties, but fortunately the one they came from, La Mancha, applies for river crossing to Tulaytulah.

October 25

The raiders at Viscaya left, but more arrived at Asutrias de Oviedo.

November 19

CKII%2014-8.png

Another intense battle, but warscore is now boosted to 92%! So close now… and now warscore starts to increase in my favor since the Umayyad haven’t obtained their war goal. Hah!

As such, we continue to siege Tulaytulah into 809AD.

January 7

Oviedo launched a failed raid into the raiders’ camps. You know, what’s making this worse is that the Breton levies are nearby! But it seems they don’t bother with raiders… then again, they aren’t even bothering with the Umayyad either. It’s like they’re only parading around Asturias going “We’re helping!”, but not doing anything.

February 4

The Umayyad are coming towards me again. So long I win again warscore will reach 100% no matter what. Except that… they now outnumber me quite badly even for the river penalties to offset.

February 12

It’s a risk, but… I’ll launch an assault. This will quicken things.

February 17

CKII%2014-9.png

Their forces started to fight me in their weakened state, but we got Tulaytulah and 100% warscore. Time to enforce demands. Demands which, since we were defending, means forcing Sultan Jabir to pay us… 760 gold! Nice! I quickly dismiss the levies.

I use the newly obtained money to build Barracks at León and Oviedo. Checking Sultan Jabir, he’s at negative wealth and piety. You know what that means…

CKII%2014-10.png

Kicking them while they’re down.

For now, I hire new mercs, the Irish Band this time.

February 24

Since we no longer have the opinion boost for being under attack by infidels, Countess Vistravara has founded a faction for the throne. At least it wasn’t rejoining the ICP…

March 20

But one who did join the ICP was Count Adelgaster, so gift him gold.

March 24

In the meantime, I hire more mercs, the Saxon Band. My wealth gain will dip into the negative now, but hopefully this war won’t take that long… hopefully…

March 31

The Umayyad forces, who still had their levies raised, simply moved them into León and started to siege.

April 3

My Chancellor sowed distrust between Mayor Assur of Toro and Emir Muhammad II. Not the outcome I want, but I take it. Also, the raiders at Oviedo have fled.

April 29

Valladolid’s Militia Training Grounds I are finished.

May 2

The mercenaries fight the Umayyad at León.

May 12

Well, this happened: the Umayyad had hired mercs, the Berber Company, during their previous war with me. However, they still had them hired and they have negative wealth. The Berber Company decided to outright attack the Umayyad too! Hahaha, an orthodox source of help. Their group is 2.4K men strong, which effectively was around half of the Umayyad’s force at this moment. This is great.

By the way, I should point out. It is possible for mercenaries that pull this to win… and take over land! Yeah, mercenaries can gain land to call their own. Will this happen for the Berber Company? Let’s find out…

May 26

CKII%2014-11.png

It’s nice to see these sorts of things happen, no? Though I should point out Uen has the Homosexual trait. So, bisexual now? Beats me, there’s no gameplay trait for that one…

May 28

CKII%2014-12.png

Success at the Bishopric! Warscore is now 7% and we even captured the Emir of Badajoz and León! He’s willing to pay 145 gold for his freedom, so we promptly make the offer. It’s accepted on June 2. This will serve good to make up for paying the mercs. Time to head south to siege.

June 11

We start to siege Zamora.

June 30

And more raiders arrive, this time to Asturias de Santinalla.

August 26

The Umayyad have shifted focus, for they’ve attacked the Berber Company at Tulaytulah.

September 16

Count Pedro of Barcelona died of Great Pox. He had no heirs but King Fruela, so the county goes to our direct control. He was also our Steward, so we need a replacement. So first, we give Gutierre de Borgona the Court Physician the county, due to demesne limits. Our new Steward will be Count Artau of Zaragoza, and will resume of Collecting Taxes at Asturias de Oviedo.

September 18

Despite the lower numbers and river penalty, the Umayyad could beat the Berber Company at Tulaytulah, bringing their warscore against them to 31%. Fortunately for us, it did weaken the Umayyad slightly.

September 21

Count Suneario of Alto Aragón died a natural death. His son, Bermudo, has succeeded him. However, he was our Marshall, and the successor to that I appoint Mayor suneario of Gijón. Who is currently leading troops, so I can’t give him a job yet.

October 6

Count Gutierre of Barcelona has founded an Independence faction… what!? This is the thanks I get for putting you there?

November 1

In better news, Court Chaplain Cardinal Munio has increased our relations with Roma.

And so, we continue our siege into 810AD.

January 25

CKII%2014-13.png

The Wilayah of Zamora is captured, and warscore increases to 12%. Hmm, this is going to take a while…

February 4

Barracks I have been finished in León.

February 14

I decide to do something about that Independence faction, so I gift Count Gutierre some gold.

March 6

Count Gutierre disbands the Independence faction. Good. It comes to my attention it’s the second time a Count of Barcelona forms an Independence faction. I wonder…

March 15

CKII%2014-14.png

The city of Toro is next to fall, bringing warscore to 22%. As a side note, the time has come where I can enact another law.

CKII%2014-15.png

More power to the King!

March 26

My Marshall is ready to work, so I put him to Train Troops at Oviedo.

April 15

Count Gutierre leaves the ICP.

May 22

Raiders arrive to Navarra.

June 20

CKII%2014-16.png

The Mosque of Benavente is the last of the sheikhdom to fall, bringing warscore to 30%. I now split my army. One will go south to siege Salamanca, the other will head to Navarra to fight the raiders.

June 26

CKII%2014-17.png

Well, loosing Humble ain’t a good thing. At least he and one of his sons are doing quite well.

July 1

Part of our army start to siege Salamanca.

July 14

Uen becomes pregnant once more.

August 8

The raiders at Navarra ran off before my levy reached them, but more arrived at Coruña. I’m not bothering this time, I’m moving that levy to help the one at Salamanca.

September 11

Which ended up being a wise decision, for the Umayyad now decided to go after me and attacked the levy at Salamanca.

September 15

Count Gutierre has rejoined the ICP.

October 4

CKII%2014-18.png

Success! Now warscore is 43%.

October 12

The rest of my forces finally arrive at Salamanca. Well, good thing we could beat the Umayyad without the entirety of my forces. But were those the entirety of them?

Also, checking over at Fruela’s sons in the Balearic, the second son, Gutierre, has come of age as well. His education was… well, compared with Fruela Jr it was worse. Ending as a Misguided Warrior. But once again, this was out of my control…

October 19

I gift Count Mauregato of Navarra some gold, for he has joined the ICP.

November 22

Princess Milia has come with the flu again.

December 4

But fortunately, Court Physician Gutierre once more does a good job treating her. And I once more choose the option that increases opinion between the two. Considering he’s a count, more reason to do this.

December 18

And Count Mauregato leaves the ICP.

December 24

And now Countess Vistravara disbands her faction to take the throne.

And thus, we start 811AD on the right foot.

January 29

The Umayyad have decided to go after the Berber Company again, at Molina.

February 6

Baron Tello of Castrobarte died a natural death. King Fruela inherited the Barony, but once more due to Demesne, I must give the title away. Not that I would’ve even if I had the Demesne, since I’d rather just control counties themselves, not baronies in counties. As such, I give the title to Manrique of Barcelona, a simple courtier.

February 14

CKII%2014-19.png

And the Wilayah of Salamanca falls, bringing warscore to 48%.

February 15

A new daughter is born, Beatriz Froilaz. I assign her the Humility childhood focus. In a downside, she was born with the Sickly trait.

February 22

And so, the event triggers to decide if the Court Physician treats her or not. Naturally, I order him to do so.

February 26

The Umayyad have defeated the Berber Company, again.

March 6

Count Gutierre has left the ICP.

March 14

CKII%2014-20.png

And manages to treat little Beatriz well. I don’t think the Sickly is removed, but at least this will offset the worst of the Health penalty.

March 29

Raiders have arrived to Viscaya. The one at Coruña had long left without me noticing.

April 4

CKII%2014-21.png

The city of Béjar has fallen, and warscore is now 55%.

April 17

The Umayyad are now going for a different tactic. They’ve now starting to liberate Zamora, rather than going after me. They might’ve continuously beaten the Berber Company, but the losses they’ve inflicted themselves are leaving an impact. They no longer dare to attack me.

July 11

CKII%2014-22.png

The mosque of Ciudad Rodrigo is the last to fall, bringing warscore to 61% and fulfilling the war goal, so now warscore will slowly fill up. But let’s speed things up, shall we? Going after the Umayyad up there in Zamora.

July 22

We promptly stop their siege.

July 26

King Fruela gets another event of spending time with one of his children, this time with Fronilda.

August 14

CKII%2014-23.png

We won! Bringing warscore to 69%. Since I can let things go on their own for now, I moved the levies to Viscaya to fight the raiders.

September 14

They fled. So, time to start sieging another sheikhdom, to speed things up.

October 12

And now more raiders have arrived to Santiago.

October 19

More technology points have arrived thanks to our Spymaster. Cultural points this time.

November 14

Prince Johan has another daughter, Gaudiosa. I assign her the Thrift childhood focus.

December 8

Our forces start to siege Plasencia. The raiders in Santiago have started to leave.

812AD might be the year we can finish this…

January 28

King Creat of Middle Francia has declared war on his nephew, King Badegisel II of West Francia… wait, no, West Francia is now France. Interesting. Anyway, the war is an all of nothing. Creat wants all his nephew’s titles, which would effectively reunite the two realms.

February 10

As if the Umayyad didn’t have to content with external woes, now two Emirs have begun to fight against each other. The thing is, one of them has land currently occupied by me, but due to the nature of his war with the other Emir, he has begun to siege one of my captured sheikhdoms. Amusing, but worrisome.

February 13

Uen has become pregnant once more.

March 4

In the meantime, another of Fruela’s siblings, Prince Silo, is now a father. To a daughter, Brunechildis. I assign her the Duty childhood focus.

March 25

The Emir sieging Salamanca seems to be gone, but soldiers from the other Emir are now sieging Zamora. But then just days later he too stops.

May 13

Our Marshall has triggered Levy Reinforcements. Well, they aren’t quite needed, isn’t it? Since I’ve fought this war entirely with mercenaries.

May 26

CKII%2014-24.png

The Wilayah of Plasencia is first to fall, bringing warscore to 83%. Between sieging this sheikhdom and war goal warscore gain, I’ll win this for sure.

June 12

CKII%2014-25.png

Uh oh, this isn’t good. Middle option is a 100 prestige loss, but things don’t escalate. The bottom one is instead a 100 prestige gain, but we risk angering the Lombard King. But, since Fruela’s Diplomacy stat is quite high, we gain an additional option, which I take.

June 17

CKII%2014-26.png

And the lesson here is kids: the wonders of high Diplomacy.

June 22

Countess Vistravara has joined the ICP. I promptly gift her gold.

July 17

Bad news! Another of Fruela’s siblings has died, Sisenanda, this time from cancer. Due to this, our alliance with her husband, King Bledrig, is now broken.

July 19

Raiders have arrived at Asturias de Oviedo. On a better note, technology spread has allowed Burgos to gain Heavy Infantry I. Considering one can only use technology points in their main county, any other in the demesne must rely on technology spread.

August 18

CKII%2014-27.png

The city of Hervás is next in line, bringing warscore to 93%. So close now!

August 25

The event about turning a kid Honest or Gregarious has now triggered with one of the POW kids, Paywand. This time, however, I chose neither. Diplomacy isn’t only not her highest stat, but it’s also the lowest! Hence, something that increases Diplomacy is useless for her.

September 15

Fruela’s new son is finally born, Gonzalo Froilaz. I assign him the Struggle childhood focus.

October 26

And it happened. Mother Anthousa succumbed to cancer. What I find most sad is that she outlived three of her children, one who also died of cancer.

November 23

CKII%2014-28.png

The Mosque of Jaraíz falls, warscore is now 100%, and we end the war!

So, now that we have Zamora and Salamanca, there are a few things we can do. But first, looking over at the Balearic, I’ve noticed that Fruela Jr has finally married. To a courtier, Aigida of Mallorca, an Orthodox Greek. Not the first choice I’ve would’ve considered, but again, Fruela Jr is out of my jurisdiction for the time being.

Anyway…

CKII%2014-29.png

León, Zamora, and Salamanca all make up the Emirate/Duchy of León. The Umayyad, who start with over 51% ownership of it, formed the Emirate. With Duchies/Emirates/etc. that have already been formed, you usurp the title, not create it. Thus, we now have the Duchy of León!

But the most important thing…

CKII%2014-30.png

Yes, that’s right, folks. A decision to form the Kingdom of León! We’ll form it around 100 years before it historically did.

CKII%2014-31.png

And it’s done. A lion has been born…

We’ve entered a new stage. So, what awaits us now? Well, find out next time!

Obviously what awaits us is a glorious Reconquista. We will hunt the heathens in to the sea.

It seems Barcelonan/Aragonese separatism has been an issue for 1200 years.

Also, you should just execute the raider chief you have captive.

Well, I suppose I can say this already, but that particular chief was gone. There was no notification or anything so it's hard to say if he really escaped or what.

Anyway, so, anouncement. Monks and Mystics releases tomorrow, and with it comes a new patch. Paradox itself has stated that saves should be compatible, though they still advice that people start new games, specially for those that seek achievements. Well, I am not worried about those since I'm not playing in Ironman mode, so I will test if I can really continue my save with the new patch tomorrow, then buy M&M as soon I'm able to and continue the LP with it.

Chapter XV – Cub Steps

November 23, 812AD – June 4, 818AD

Spoiler

So! Time to start, now as the Kingdom of León. As you know, our capital got moved, from Asturias de Oviedo to León, and that brings lots of changes. I’ll change my Crown Focus to the new capital, and start building a Hospital there. While León is only Prospering, not Flourishing, there’s still a disease susceptibility increase. Though, once more, Hospitals right now don’t have much in them to counter that. But it’s better to have one built already to save time later. I also still have raiders in Oviedo, so instead of dismissing the mercs right away, I’m moving them north to fight them off.

An important aspect to consider are the Advances. They’re county specific, and thus, all advances I’ve done have only affected Asturias de Oviedo. León, which has always been part of my demesne, has had to rely on technological spread. As such, my progress has reset, to an extent. The good news is that it has received progress decimals already, and will continue to do so thanks to Oviedo being more advanced and right next door. For now, I use up the points I currently have, to speed things up a little. I enact the following for León: Light Infantry I, Heavy Infantry I, and Siege Equipment I.

My Council’s jobs also need some reshuffling. My Chancellor was sowing dissent in Zamora, which is now mine. As such, I send him now to Porto to still Sow Dissent. My Marshall will now Research Military Tech in León, and the Steward will keep doing the Collect Taxes job, but also now in León. My Court Chaplain will head to Proselyte in Salamanca. Umayyad Iberia is now almost Sunni majority now, so from now on expect my Court Chaplain(s) to be mostly proselyting in the future.

Since we’re a different kingdom now, even if it was technically more of a rebranding, the time limit to passing laws has reset, and thus, we can enact a new one. In addition, now that we’re at peace, the last remaining ambition available to us is now free again to be taken.

CKII%2015-1.png

As I mentioned before, despite what they think about it, nobles are best suited to supply levies than paying taxes, so I shift their focus even more into supplying soldiers. Also, that’s the only ambition left for us to take. It’s quite unlikely I’ll ever fulfill it, considering where we are and who we have as neighbor. That said, that Global Revolt Risk reduction is too good to pass up, even if it’s just a -1% modifier.

Before starting, I start construction of Militia Training Grounds at Salamanca, and order Count Adelgaster of Coruña to stop his plot to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Galicia. And last thing to do: give away the minor titles in the newly acquired counties. Mind you, for now, I’m not giving away excess counties this time. I must think carefully, so I’ll take some time to decide.

And now… we begin!

November 24

The ICP finally disbands. It will be back, though. It will be back…

December 2

Count Adelgaster agrees to drop his plot. On hindsight, this ended up unnecessary. You’ll see what I mean.

December 9

Prince Alfontso has funded a faction for the throne… except not for him, but rather, he wants Prince Agila to take the throne. You know, the brother of Fruela we sent off to Orleans. He’s now their Duke, by the way. Well, we certainly won’t allow that if it comes down to it!

And thus, despite this last hurdle at the finish line of 812AD, we enter 813AD…

January 4

With the wrong foot, for Count Artau of Zaragoza has reestablished the ICP faction. On the flip side, the raiders fled. Well, not entirely good, since fleeing means they flee with the gold they’ve took. I can now dismiss the mercenaries.

January 9

Prince Alfontso joins the ICP.

January 11

And now Count Manrique founds a faction for Prince Johan (the one married to a Lombard princess) to take the throne. You can already tell some counts are starting to question our leadership.

January 20

I’ve only noticed, but the Sultanate of Africa has fallen, conquered by the Abbasid Empire. This could be bad…

January 28

To counter all the faction stuff from earlier, I gift gold to Count Artau.

February 3

But then Count Adelgaster joins the ICP.

February 5

And so does Count Froila of Urgell. This last one I also gift gold.

The time has come for me to reduce my demesne, mostly because the penalties for being over the demesne limit are starting to manifest. I give Asturias de Santinalla to my Spymaster, Hussayn Abd-al-Rahmanez. This makes him leave the spot, and since I have someone with a better stat, I appoint Count Gutierre of Barcelona as the new Spymaster. Yeah, the Court Physician. Don’t worry, even sending him to Constantinople to keep the duty of Study Technology, it won’t impede his Physician duties, hahahaha.

But now I have come to a problem. I no longer have courtiers to assign titles! You see, I am doing this with some specific rules in mind. Not giving titles to relatives, as to avoid a power struggle emerging. Not giving more than one title to the same person, to avoid vassals becoming too powerful to become harder to control. As such, I don’t have anyone to give the last county out of my demesne limit. So, what can I do?

Well, in the Decisions list, there is a small list where I can invite people to my court. From what I understand, this generates a new character, not a pre-existing one. We can choose if to invite a priest, or noble, etc. One advantage of gaining courtiers this way is that they’ll always be of the religion and culture of the character who enacted the decision, and always coming with a favorable opinion.

CKII%2015-2.png

So, for a cost of just 25 piety, I invite a Holy Man to my court. I chose a priest over a noble since priests are less likely to become ambitious (not just talking about the gameplay Trait) and want more power. If one doesn’t like the presented candidate, it’s possible to refuse, though we don’t get back the gold/prestige/piety we spent to seek the candidate. We’d have to spend more for another one. In any case, I hire Diego on the spot, and give him Asturias de Oviedo.

This, however, results in losing our Marshall and Court Chaplain, as they’re no longer part of our Court, becoming now Diego’s. It’s okay, though, for now I put Prince Johan as my new Marshall, and take the job of Research Military Tech in León, and my new Court Chaplain is Bishop Juan of Silos, and he’ll resume the job to Proselyte Salamanca.

February 7

CKII%2015-3.png

Okay, this is good. I’m taking the top option, and end this rivalry.

February 18

So, an interesting development happened. Apparently, Count Froila of Urgell ordered Baron Sancho of Puigcerda to revoke the title. The Baron refused, and now a fight has broken off between them. Hmm, it’s likely the Count will win over the Baron. At this point, not exactly a matter I want to step in. Maybe.

February 20

Count Alim of Tarragona has joined the ICP.

February 22

And now Count Diego has joined the ICP too! I just appointed you! Something’s up, this is the first time the ICP has gotten so many members…

Well, first I gift gold to both Alim and Diego, and after a quick search I finally found what may be the problem. My vassals and courtiers now have an opinion modifier towards King Fruela of “Too Many Held Duchies”, which grants a flat -10 to opinion. Apparently, 2 is the limit of Duchies they’re fine with, but the moment King Fruela obtained a third? Oh no, that’s too much!

Well, there’s one way to deal with that.

CKII%2015-4.png

Just like the counties, duchies are no different when it comes to granting them away. There are a few things to keep in mind.

The optimal way to give away duchies is to give them to someone who owns a county already. Otherwise, you grant them more direct control of everything the duchy has beneath it. The other counties and stuff. Next, what you want to do is to grant duchies to whoever holds their de jure capital. Which is why Count Adelgaster gets it instead of Countess Vistravara. Coruña is the de jure capital for the Duchy of Galicia, not Santiago. AI characters will aim to acquire the de jure capital if they don’t own it. So, if I had given the title to Vistravara, or even to another count, as long they don’t own Coruña then they will try to obtain Coruña. Either through plots, or outright attacking whoever has the capital in their demesne. The key here is to always keep the power outside our direct control divided, so vassals never become too powerful to challenge me, but neither remain too weak to be able to help me or themselves. Vassals can do stuff like attacking other realms and conquer in our name, so that’s why it’s not a bad thing to let them become stronger, to a degree of course.

March 1

We begin to see the effects of getting rid of our worst negative opinion modifiers on us. Count Artau has left the ICP, making Prince Alfontso the new leader.

March 6

Followed by Count Alim leaving the ICP as well.

March 9

And now Prince Alfontso disbands the faction to put Prince Agila in the Leonese throne, and leaves the ICP too, leaving the now Duke Adelgaster as the new leader.

March 19

Once more I receive the event about reinforcing the buildings, and again I could ask Cardinal Munio for advice. I decide to take the chance and ask for his advice again.

March 20

And now Duke Adelgaster leaves the ICP, and Count Diego now takes leadership.

March 21

Once again, King Fruela must decide if to search for a lost toy or buy a new one. This time, it’s with his daughter Milia. I decide once more to offer to buy, as I don’t want the prestige loss that would come from searching the toy.

And once more, the kid dislikes the idea, and gains the Fussy trait. Personally, I don’t know if there can be any other outcome for this choice.

March 26

CKII%2015-5.png

Oh, a banquet, huh. Sure, let’s invite our dear friend Cardinal Munio.

March 31

CKII%2015-6.png

Things went well enough. Hmm, it’s moments like these what sometimes makes me wonder if the opinions of my character to others affect anything. We know the opinions of others towards us does, certainly, but not sure about the other way around…

April 5

Count Diego leaves the ICP, and Count Froila becomes its new leader by being the only one left. lol

April 7

And then he too leaves, disbanding the ICP. Amazing what a -10 to opinion, and getting rid of it, can do…

April 18

CKII%2015-7.png

And this time, Cardinal Munio’s advice now actually yields fruit. Good!

August 3

Someone finally joins my plot to kill the Emir of Toledo. His Marshall, turns out, Abd-al-Rahman ibn Abd-al-Rahman. Yeah, I’m not familiar with their naming customs to explain that one.

August 10

King Fruela is now a grandfather! Gutierre Froilaz now has a daughter, Inés Gutierrez.

November 9

The Militia Training Grounds I at Salamanca are finished.

November 24

Raiders have arrived at Asturias de Santinalla. I call forth my levies.

December 8

And then more raiders arrive at Navarra.

December 19

Baron Ranimiro of San Pedro de Périx has died of Great Pox. He was succeeded by his son, Rodericho.

December 24

My levies right the raiders at Asturias de Santinalla. Which we’ll fight into 814AD.

January 14

CKII%2015-8.png

And we save the castle. I’ll now move them east to fight the other group of raiders. In other good news, Uen is pregnant again.

January 24

CKII%2015-9.png

Another POW kid comes of age, gaining the Thrifty Clerk trait. I promptly recruit her into my court. Sultan Jabir seeks to expand again, but this time he has his sights in North Africa. He’s now attacking the Masmudid High Chiefdom to obtain Cebta. A de jure war, it seems. Also, I just noticed the guy who was in my plot has left. Didn’t bothered to check what happened to him to find out why, though.

February 15

The raiders in Navarra fled before my levies arrived. So much for that. Time to dismiss them.

May 22

Checking on the war in North Africa, the Chiefs of Anti-Atlas, Marrakech, and Infa have come to Masmudid’s defense. I doubt that will be enough. Now, I could try to take advantance of this situation, if only my truce with Sultan Jabir wasn’t there.

June 3

Once again, the “kid reading through letters” event triggers. This time it’s with Prince Garcia. You know the drill, I chose to have him lose 30 prestige over my character gaining the Cruel trait.

June 18

I have enough points to obtain the Cavalry I and Noble Customs I advances. Little by little I’m making León catch up with Asturias de Oviedo.

August 15

The newest daughter of King Froila is born, María Froilaz.

CKII%2015-10.png

The Faith childhood focus. My choice is more about the novelty and variety, than over the trait. And the religious conversion is useless in this situation.

September 5

I failed to notice exactly when, but now Fruela Jr is a father too. To twins. Constanza Froilaz and Fruela Froilaz. Fruela Jr Jr? Nah, but it shows they really want to pass down the Fruela name now in a chain.

September 13

More raiders have arrived, this time to Coruña. Standard procedure at this point. In addition, I start construction on a Castle Town at Zamora.

September 15

CKII%2015-11.png

Apparently Uen and my Court Chaplain, Bishop Juan of Silos, don’t see eye to eye. If I do agree to her request, he is fired from his council position. And, well…

Hah, as if! Besides, the bottom decision is only a -5 to opinion, even if for 2 years. We can take it.

September 18

CKII%2015-12.png

Oh boy, what’s this? An Emir thinks he can take me on and recover the Duchy of León for the Umayyad. Emir Halil here, from the Aslamid Emirate, is only 16 years old. Pft, he must be feeling cocky and trying to leave his mark in history. Well, sorry kid, but you chose the wrong guy to mess with.

So, first things first, I call forth both mine and my vassals’ levies. Except for Duke Adelgaster’s. Since the raiders are still there, I need to avoid sending them to a battle they can’t win. I’ll send a few soldiers there to fight/drive them off, then can call forth the levy there. Fortunately, Duke Adelgaster rose the Santiago levy (I no longer can raise that one since they’re now under the Duke), so I don’t need to move that many of my own to Coruña, since once I do, he will send his own as well to help. It’s nice when the AI can help you, no?

October 11

Count Manrique finally disbands his faction to put Prince Johan on the throne.

October 13

It worked. The raider fled, so now I raise the last levies, and now I move everyone to Salamanca, to take a defensive stance. They will be arriving the following weeks.

October 17

My Court Eunuch, Tariku, died a natural death. Who knows when I could get another Eunuch. Not that there’s anything special in having one, far as I know. I’ve also noticed the Emir’s levy coming towards me. A 2.8K stack… okay, maybe the Emir has some bite to his bark, after all.

November 1

More points our Spymaster has gathered, which are Cultural.

November 10

We’re attacked in Salamanca. Only around 1K soldiers of mine had arrived. The Emir’s stack was divided, with a 2.5K main who has crossed first. Salamanca has terrain bonuses and a river crossing, so the Emir will be at a disadvantage. We may still lose, depending on things. If we can hold out long enough for the rest of my forces to arrive, we might stand a chance.

December 21

CKII%2015-13.png

That was close. On the flip side, warscore is now 31%, and there are still soldiers of mine still arriving at Salamanca. I decide to take on the offensive now, and now move everyone towards the Emir’s demesne. A good start for 815AD.

January 2

The Anti-Pope has died. His successor is Martinus II.

January 9

My levies start to arrive at Castelo Branco, and will continue to do for the following weeks.

February 7

Another event about my Spymaster informing me about a vassal. This time, about Bishop Juan’s bizarre and repulsive sexual preferences, apparently. Between exposing him and keep the information to myself, I chose the latter. Not going to let that escalate during war.

February 24

Everybody is at Castelo Branco, time to just siege… and be on the lookout for the Emir’s army.

March 20

I spot the Emir heading to Salamanca again, this time from the south. I abandon the siege and move my levies to intercept them.

March 28

The Emir has his army stop, knowing what I’m planning. Sometimes, when the AI pulls stunts like this it can be either annoying or a good stalling tactic, depending on what you want. Anyway, I stop my own levy’s movement, and resume the siege.

April 10

They’re at it again, heading back north. I move my levies again.

April 30

This time they don’t chicken out, and start to siege Valladolid. It’s not part of their war goal, but I’m still stopping them all the same.

May 22

We start to fight them off.

May 26

CKII%2015-14.png

Hmm, a monument, huh. Refusing is only a temporary -5 to Opinion. But as you can see, I’m going with the top option. Sure, it’s pricey, but I can afford it. And who knows, we can get something nice in return for having that monument built.

June 10

Fruela’s son, Gutierre, now has a second child, Gonzalo Gutierrez.

June 15

Sultan Jabir has won in his war to obtain Cebta.

June 25

CKII%2015-15.png

Oh no! Bah, just a flesh wound!

July 6

CKII%2015-16.png

But we managed to win, bringing warscore to 46%. After this, time to head back to Castelo Branco to restart the siege.

July 31

CKII%2015-17.png

And now, having finished his war in North African, Sultan Jabir now attacks me! Great, just great, dealing with both an Emir and his Sultan… as two separate wars. The Sultan also wants León, go figure.

Okay, here’s what I’ll do. First, I’ll move my levies over yonder to Tlemcen, making a beeline for the capital. As for the Emir… well, even though we don’t have 50% warscore yet, I see that I can force him into a White Peace. Which I promptly do.

CKII%2015-18.png

Emir Halil loses 100 prestige and 50 piety. Well, it could’ve been worse for him had I gone the full 100% warscore, but I needed him out of my way ASAP to focus on Sultan Jabir.

August 31

The Castle Town I at Zamora is finished.

October 24

I’ve almost reached the Straits of Gibraltar when I see the Umayyad main stack has already crossed it and heading my way. Thankfully, it’s currently housing less soldiers than mine, though there are a few scattered levies around that could bolster it. In any case, I stop advancing and let them come to me, and we get attacked in Seville. What, not Sevilla?

December 5

CKII%2015-19.png

The battle at the Mosque of Carmona was… simply put, dreadful. We won, but the Umayyad reinforced the stack too many times, it wasn’t funny. Our casualty rate was almost 2:1, basically. In any case, warscore gets pushed to 19%. Yeah… no way I’m heading to Tlemcen, now.

So, what I do now is dismiss and recall the levies, so they end up back in northern Iberia faster, then hire the Irish Band. Then move everybody to siege Tulaytulah. 816AD won’t start on a good note, I’m afraid.

January 11

My levies start to arrive at Tulaytulah, and will continue to arrive through the following weeks.

January 13

The Pope has died. His successor is Benedictus III.

March 19

CKII%2015-20.png

Well, Fruela is no longer wounded, though scarred. Though as you can see, it’s good! Okay, sure, +0.1 monthly prestige may not sound much… but depending on how much longer Fruela could live, it can still be a small but significant gain.

Also, Fruela Jr now has a third child, Tello Froilaz.

March 22

The Umayyad are heading this way. Now with bigger numbers than mine. Unfortunately, Tulaytulah doesn’t offer terrain bonuses, since it’s Plains. So, I move my men to Salamanca, and hopefully the Umayyad take the bait. Their war goal is León, so they must siege Salamanca at some point, but still…

April 10

My main stack arrived at Salamanca, and the Umayyad are taking the bait. There are still a few small levies that have yet to join with my main stack, but it’s manageable at this point.

April 22

And the Umayyad arrive and fight!

May 3

Duke Adelgaster died of depression. He was succeeded by his son, Adelfonso. Both as Duke of Galicia and Count of Coruña.

May 5

I forgot to record down the reason, but my current regent has died. So, I appoint Mayor Manrique of Villablino as the new regent.

May 11

The mother-in-law, Uen (yes, same name as her daughter), has died, from a natural death.

May 12

And then my current regent, Mayor Manrique of Villablino, dies of Cancer. So, I appoint Uen as the new regent.

May 26

CKII%2015-21.png

And the monument is finished. The bottom option would’ve given me back the Humble trait, and only a temporal -5 to Opinion from Count Artau… but nah, I want that flat 200 prestige increase instead.

May 27

CKII%2015-22.png

Things went much better this time around, and warscore climbs to 35%. I decide to stay in Salamanca, and take the time it would take for the Umayyad to come back in dismissing and recalling my levies again, to include the numbers that have recovered.

June 16

Unfortunately, raiders have arrived at Asturias de Oviedo. Ugh, I don’t have time to deal with them… or do I…?

August 27

The Umayyad are coming to Slamanca again. But this time I have the higher numbers. This will be easy… or should be, at least.

In the meantime, Princess Milia has turned 12, so it’s time to do the usual. With the Brooding, Fussy, and Curious traits, and her highest stat being Intrigue…

CKII%2015-23.png

Yes, the Intrigue Education. Also, I arranged a betrothal with King Badegisel II of France. Yes, I know it says House Wulfardson even though he is Karl’s grandson (I would call him Charlemagne, but remember that Karl died before that event triggered). You happy now, people? Finally marrying someone into the main House Karling! Well… technically. Anyway, the betrothal is accepted on September 1.

September 3

The Umayyad attack me again at Salamanca.

September 10

Fruela has a new grandchild, María Gutierrez (at this point the surname makes it easier to tell from which son they come from).

October 6

CKII%2015-24.png

And the Bishopric of Ciudad Rodrigo sees a victory for us, and warscore rises to 51%. At this point, warscore has started to tick in our favor, for enough time has passed without the Umayyad fulfilling their war goal. Now… I’m going to do a different tactic. Rather than wait for the Umayyad to go, get rid of their Retreating modifier (which prevents anyone engaging them), and come back, I’ll now instead tail them. Yes, leave them no breathing space! The moment they are back to combat-ready, I’ll be there at their heels to fight them in their weakened state. No mercy!

November 4

Count Airmanagildo of Astorga died of cancer. His successor is his brother, Garҫi.

December 26

Once more, the “we did not marry for love, but I can tell it is growing between us” event triggers between Fruela and Uen. Such a nice thing…

And so, we begin 817AD chasing the Umayyad all over the place.

March 5

Until we finally fight them again at Braganҫa. The downside of this strategy I’m pulling is that since I’ll be the attacker, I’ll have to deal with the negative terrain bonuses, like here at Braganҫa, which has a river

March 7

Prince Alfontso died due to gout complications. His son, Adelfonso, inherits the county of Viscaya. But since Prince Alfontso was my Chancellor as well, I need to assign a replacement myself. So, I appoint Count Bermudo of Alto Aragón. And he will Sow Dissent in Porto.

March 19

Another grandchild is born, Tello Froilaz.

March 29

CKII%2015-25.png

And we win at the Mosque of Chaves, and warscore rises to 64%. Time to continue the pursuit.

April 3

After months of being epidemic-free, a new one has entered our realm. Camp Fever that originated from Bordeaux. Unlike the last epidemic, this one will spread further since the starting point was closer to my realm. Ah damn.

April 5

My Chancellor has sowed distrust between a Wâli and his Sheikh.

May 20

More raiders arrive, this time to Santiago. They eventually left, but didn’t noticed when.

May 30

We engage in battle again with the Umayyad in Qurtubah.

June 23

CKII%2015-26.png

And at the Wilayah of Andújar we raise the warscore to 72%. Time to continue the chase.

July 26 – July 31

CKII%2015-27.png

A chance to make a non-aggression pact. Well, might as well.

August 19

The Umayyad have decided to head back to attempt to fulfill the war goal, and start to siege Zamora.

September 5

My levy catches up and start to fight the Umayyad.

September 24

Well, at I must I don’t remember at the point of writing, but I reappointed Count Hussayn as Spymaster. As always, off to Constantinople to Study Technology.

September 28

CKII%2015-28.png

And our victory at Zamora brings warscore to 81%. No quarter! After them

!

October 26

Prince García has turned 12. With the traits of Conscientious, Curious, and Playful, I assign him to Stewardship Education. As I betroth him to Gautlindis, the daughter of Count Gausbold of Rosello, over in France.

October 28

My Steward, Count Artau, has secluded himself due to the epidemic.

November 1

The betrothal proposal is accepted.

December 2

Adelgundis de Cantabria, Prince Johan’s daughter, has turned 12. With the traits of Timid, Brooding, and Affectionate, I assign her to Stewardship Education as well. And betroth her to Strategos Aniketos of Thessalonika.

December 14

King Badegisel II wants an alliance. Probably since his war against his uncle isn’t doing quite well. I accept, anyway.

December 16

The betrothal is accepted.

December 19

New grandchild is born, Álvar Froilaz.

December 22

CKII%2015-29.png

And I suspected. Yeah, I can only blame myself for that. I accept to join just to avoid losing that much prestige. Looking over… yeah, things are hectic. Fortunately for me, if I don’t send troops to the other side of the Pyrenees, I can just pretend I’m not taking part of the war. King Creat will likewise prioritize fighting his nephew than me. Besides, I still need to deal with the Umayyad. I will point out though that Badegisel II (and me, by association) has 74% warscore over his uncle. Perhaps my help won’t really be needed? Who knows. I still need to focus on the Umayyad first.

And so, things move on into 818AD…

March 3

The Umayyad have recovered, it seems, for now a 2.4K stack is coming my way! Probably hired mercs. This time, I switch back to the defensive, and wait for them at Salamanca.

March 10

Another grandson is born, Bermudo Gutierrez.

March 11

The ICP has disbanded once more.

March 14

And the Umayyad now bring the fighting to us.

March 19

And now my Court Chaplain, Bishop Juan, secludes himself.

March 27 – April 2

Uen has come with food poisoning, but fortunately Count Gutierre could treat her. I chose the option to reward him.

April 7

CKII%2015-30.png

Oh damn! His son, Mauregato, inherits the county of Astorga.

April 18

CKII%2015-31.png

And victory at the city of Béjar brings warscore to 97%. So close! I think I’ll just let it reach 100% on its own now.

April 29

So, this happened: Countess Vistravara has revolted against the Duke of Galicia. The reason? She supports for Bishop Silo, brother of the Duke, to become the Duke instead. And now a civil war has erupted in the Duchy. Hmm, well, currently it doesn’t affect me negatively (the soldiers they’re using are their own reserves, and not part of say, the levies they can give me), so I’ll see how this develops.

Also, I notice the warscore in the French war has dropped to 64%. I think King Creat is turning the tables now.

June 4

CKII%2015-32.png

And warscore reached 100%. With what we’ve gained at this point, we now beat another Dynasty in the scoreboard.

CKII%2015-33.png

King Fruela II has now also effectively gained double his father’s score at this point.

The first years of the Kingdom of León have been hectic, but we made it through. The Umayyad will pay for this, rest assured. After all, with their weakened levies, and the gold we take from them from forcing their surrender, these are the perfect opportunities to strike back. But that will be for next time.

Also, good news. The save file was compatible with v2.7! It only took some small tweaks since save files themselves keep certain things from the version they’re from, but it was manageable. I could buy Monks and Mystics back on Tuesday, so I have resumed playing. Expect a crash-course over the new features (if you don’t look them up first, of course), but since I still have material pre-2.7 to still go through, don’t expect M&M content until… 1-2 chapters from now.

Until next time!

Chapter XVI – The Cracks Form

June 4, 818AD – April 1, 824AD

Spoiler

So, before starting, I’ve decided to check on the boys at the Balearic. Seems Fruela Jr is moving up in the world, for he’s now the Strategos of the islands. But my big surprise was that he has converted to Orthodoxy. What!? Well… that’s something… hmm…

Moving on from that, I employ part of the newly received money to build a Castle Town at Salamanca. Next course of action…

CKII%2016-1.png

A new Duchy, Castile. Formed with Burgos, Valladolid, Soria, and Asturias de Santinalla. As before, must give away a Duchy, since I can’t have more than two without my vassals objecting about it. For that, I grant the Duchy of Asturias to Count Diego, since Asturias de Oviedo is de jure capital for the duchy. We’re moving on from our humble roots. So, time to begin.

July 14

Prince Johan has a new child, Pelagio. I assign him the Pride childhood focus.

July 18

And now my Chancellor is next in secluding himself.

July 31

I have the technology points to obtain Church Infrastructure II. As you remember, this improves Temple Tax. And unlocks buildings and tiers for them, since that’s what Economy Advances do in general.

September 1

The Umayyad have suffered a revolt. This guy, Faruk, has risen against Sultan Jabir to support Chief Fald’s claim on Andalusia. Sadly, I didn’t check who this Chief was and why he had the claim.

November 20

I enact the Military Organization I advance. And now, I can start to do something I’ve didn’t paid much attention until now: Retinues.

CKII%2016-2.png

As you can see, retinues are basically permanent troops. They don’t even count as part of levies when it comes to the “you can’t do this because you have raise levies” restriction. For now, I choose a Light Skirmish retinue, since my selection is limited. Later I’ll change this. The thing about retinues is that they start at just 1 soldier, then slowly reinforce to the max. Therefore, decisions when it comes to Retinues to not be taken lightly. A positive of this is that once it gets to full strength, I can use retinues to fight raiders without having to use part of my levies.

In another note, Badegisel II’s warscore now dropped to 60%. Hopefully they keep ignoring me. Joining that alliance wasn’t a good idea on hindsight.

December 2

To my surprise, the Sheikhdom of Algeciras, who was part of Faruk’s revolt, has broken off into its own realm! But first must fight a defensive war against Faruk, to prevent being revoked. If it wasn’t just the one sheikhdom, and all the way on the other end of Iberia, I’d try to nab it.

December 17

More technology points from the Spymaster. Economic points.

Interesting development that follows us into 819AD.

January 6

Count Manrique of Soria died of Camp Fever. His son, Juan, succeed him.

January 7

The Court Physician treats Prince Johan. Of what? Sorry, forgot to check. This time, though, I’m choosing the option that grants 10 prestige, since at this point I don’t need Count Gutierre’s opinion to rise.

January 16

And now a second revolts rises within the Umayyad, with Emir Halil vouching for Prince Abdallah’s claim on Andalusia. Now he I know, Abdallah is one of the late Sultan Hisham’s brothers. So Sultan Jabir’s uncle.

What’s this… is this the time when the Umayyad are finally succumbing to decadence revolts and splitting up?

CKII%2016-3.png

What are we waiting for, then!?

First things first, my personal levies will go into Tulaytulah. However, only part of them. I’ll send the others to fight those raiders still in Oviedo. You know, those guys have been there for like… years now, I think. They aren’t looting, nor sieging. They don’t leave, despite that I’ve done nothing to stop them, and could escape with the loot they do have pillaged. Yet they haven’t left! It’s like…

“Uh, boss, don’t you think we should leave? They might decide to actually do something now.”

“Oh shut up! I’ve been making a fortune betting in all these bullfights! Once we have enough, we can return home like Kings!”

“We already had enough months ago!”

Or something like that. Who knows.

January 18

And now my Spymaster secludes himself. *Sigh* Now my Marshall is the only left still working. Time to make him change his job to Train Troops. I’ll need that for the war.

February 3

My levies start to arrive to Tulaytulha, now…

Oh no! Prince Silo died of Camp Fever! That’s another of Fruela’s siblings who dies. Hmm, his widow has a weak claim over Connachta. Let’s see if what I’m planning can work…

So, currently, Connachta is ruled by Chief Fínsnecha. He’s childless, so his heir is Cináed mac Artgal. Looking over at the character options, I have the option to invite him to my court. This won’t stop him being the heir. Hmm, perhaps if he was considered a courtier…

February 17

CKII%2016-4.png

And so, he arrives at my court with his wife, Lowry. And next part of my plan, plot to kill the Chief. Cináed is already 73, so I better be quick on that one. Also, Badegisel II’s warscore now lowered to 56%. I think he’s probably wondering why the heck am I not helping. Believe me, I could’ve, if your uncle didn’t outnumber me as well. Or both our levies combined…

March 23

Next of Fruela’s kids to turn 12 is Princess Fronilda. With the traits of Brooding, Affectionate, and Curious, I assign her Stewardship education. And betroth her to Strategos Marinos of Krete. Offer accepted on April 2.

April 13

FINALLY, I fight those raiders.

May 8

CKII%2016-5.png

And thus end the epic of the raiders who braved the long, arduous journey to the bottom of Europe to gain infamy and fortune… only to get sidetracked and eventually be driven off, pockets empty. It’s a lesson we can all learn from their example.

In other news, time to increase plot power. I gift gold to Ysbail, a concubine of the Chief, and invite her into the plot.

May 21

A little late, but I finally raise everybody’s levies, and move them towards Molina, not Tulaytulah. Even the ones heading there I’ve shifted their path. The Umayyad have yet to do anything. They’re tied with the revolts. Also, the Castle Town I has been finished at Salamanca.

June 2

CKII%2016-6.png

Well, that happened. Countess Vistravara won and Silo usurped the title from his bother.

June 3

In a very unfortunate turn of events (though predictable since I didn’t chose to seclude myself), Princess María is coming down with camp fever.

June 20

The levies start to arrive at Molina. Also, Count Alim of Tarragona died. Most likely Camp Fever, but I forgot to check. His son, Nunno, is the new Count.

July 2

Checking on things, Ysbail has accepted joining the plot. I also note Badegisel II’s warscore went back up, to 61%.

July 18

The epidemic is finally winding down, and our Spymaster is back in action. Well, back to Constantinople for you.

July 31

I just noticed a third revolt has rose with the Umayyad. Led by Marwan vouching for Emir Bahir’s claims on Andalusia. Didn’t check on that, I’m afraid.

September 23

All the soldiers have arrived to Molina.

October 3

My Chancellor is also back, and I’ve sent him to Qulumriyah to Sow Dissent.

October 10

I receive a notification that supplies were smuggled into Molina. Also, Badegisel II’s warscore is now 67%. He’s making a comeback, it looks like.

November 18

And now Prince Gonzalo is coming up with Camp Fever. Not secluding the court was probably not a good idea…

November 19

Bandits raid the sieging camps.

Other than that, the siege continues into 820AD.

January 24

CKII%2016-7.png

The Wilayah of Molina falls, and warscore rises to 5%. About that, Badegisel II’s drops to 59%.

February 26

The Marshall triggers Levy Reinforcements.

March 10

I get a notification of an Ashkenazi Jew arriving at my court, Chananel of Yamantaw. No notification as to why, though. At least, one I could’ve easily searched

March 22

Count Hussayn reforms the ICP.

April 19

The defenders successfully raid the sieging camps.

May 19

Another grandchild for King Fruela, Luis Froilaz.

May 26

CKII%2016-8.png

The Mosque of El Pedregal is next in line, bringing warscore to 13%. Also, I start construction of a Barracks in Palencia.

May 28

Uen has come down with pneumonia. Not camp fever but quite as deadly. I’d say, any sickness with -4 penalty to Health is considered deadly, in my opinion.

June 7

But Count Gutierre was successful in treating her. Mind you, even when Court Physicians enact successful treatments, the sickness trait doesn’t outright disappear. It grants another trait to signify the treatment was done well, which grants a positive modifier to Health to counteract the sickness’s negative one, until it’s gone (unless it’s one of those that don’t, like Cancer). So Uen still has the pneumonia… but it’s no longer as a problem to her health.

August 4

Count Artau of Zaragoza joins the ICP.

August 6

It has happened. King Badegisel II died of Camp Fever. Our alliance is broken (like truces, alliances are done with the person, not realm), and since he didn’t have a child, his uncle inherits, effectively ending the war and reuniting France once more. Due to the abrupt end, no penalty happens for being on the losing side of the war. Well, anyone other than the war leader doesn’t seem to get penalized, just the leader. Not that it matters, since the war didn’t end with Badegisel II’s defeat. His death, but not defeat.

And because I’m not one to miss the opportunity when I see it, I propose a betrothal. Between one of Fruela’s daughters, Princess Beatriz, and one of King Creat’s sons, Karl. Normally I wait until the children are 12 to do this (Beatriz is 9 currently), but better not take my chances. Gotta keep ties with the Karlings.

Speaking of, I had betrothed another daughter, Princess Milia, with Badegisel II. But well, he’s dead now. So now I arrange a different betroth for Milia, this time with Strategos Maximos II of Aegean Islands.

August 15

CKII%2016-9.png

Speaking of, she becomes of age.

August 17

The betrothals are accepted.

August 30

CKII%2016-10.png

The city of Cabanillas de Ocampo is now ours, bringing warscore to 23%.

September 10

Prince Agila died of gout complications. This is terrible, now only Fruela and Johan are the only children of the late Aurelio who are still alive. And therefore, having lots of children is never a bad idea, and in fact encouraged, in this game. Even if it’s not to marry everyone off everywhere Habsburg style, you never know when the Reaper decides one’s time is due.

October 8

CKII%2016-11.png

And with the Mosque of Hinojosa, the sheikhdom is under full control and warscore I now 28%. Time to head to the next.

October 18

Which is the sheikhdom of Kunka, time to start the siege. Now, I decide to change my levies. I dismiss my vassals’, and in their place, hire the Irish Band.

November 28

Count Artau, my Steward, is finally back form seclusion. I sent him back to Collect Taxes at León.

December 16

The mercs arrive to Kunka.

December 19

And now the Court Chaplain, Bishop Juan, is back from seclusion. Well, back to Proselyte in Salamanca.

December 31

Another successful raid on the sieging camps. Not a good note to end the year. But hopefully 821AD can be better…

January 9

CKII%2016-12.png

Ah, seems our plot is finally going somewhere! Classic indeed, the poisoned wine.

January 21

I get a notification that Duke Diego favors Prince García to become the heir. You see, what happens is that sometimes your vassals will voice their opinion over who they would prefer to see taking the throne. I think it depend on succession laws, but I’m not sure. Anyway, I can see why the Duke thinks this. Both Fruela Jr and Gutierre have practically spent their lives in the Byzantine Empire. Fruela Jr has even become an Orthodox. And they’re the sons of the former queen who has long died. In the eyes of the vassals, they are practically foreigners at this point. And Prince García is the next oldest Prince, son of the current wife, and all that. This is making me start to consider it as well… but well, that’s for another time.

January 29

Sheikh Admer of El Rif has joined the war. Huh, took long enough for someone to come into the Sultan’s aid, who already has three revolts to put up with in addition to us.

February 3

CKII%2016-13.png

And the plot went off without hitch. Our first successful assassination scheme.

But then I realized the flaw of my plan. The new chief of Connachta, which if you remember I invited to my court, he took the position of chief, but stopped being my courtier. Well, that’s… all that planning for nothing! Maybe if I had given him a title, to make him a vassal, then perhaps I could’ve gained Connachta and gained a foothold in the Emerald Isle. But to be honest, not sure if making him a vassal would’ve allowed him to keep his heir position. Well, this better be a lesson for next time I try to pull off this.

That said, I did have another courtier with weak claims over Connachta. So, since the now Chief is in his mid-70’s and not long for this world, at this point I didn’t gave up yet on this, so I chose my next plot to Chief Máelán of Bréifne, another in the succession line.

February 13

Raiders arrive to Asturias de Santinalla.

February 27

Count Artau leaves the ICP.

April 20

Once more the “kid reads letters” event. The unlucky kid to lose 30 prestige is… Princess María.

May 12

The Barracks I were finished at Palencia.

June 3

CKII%2016-14.png

The Wilayah of Kunka falls, bringing warscore to 34%.

June 10

A new grandchild for King Fruela, Urraca Gutierrez.

June 18

The defenders’ morale is lowered due to rumors of a traitor in their ranks.

June 19

The Pope has died. The new Pope is Lucius II.

July 8

And then the defenders succumb to starvation.

July 15

CKII%2016-15.png

This… isn’t doing Catholicism’s moral authority any favors…

July 20

So… through this time, there was a revolt in the Byzantine Empire. The 4th one asking for elective monarchy. Fruela Jr and Gutierre were part of it. The revolt lost… and Fruela Jr was hanged on the Basileus’s orders as punishment…

King Fruela’s first son is dead… to me, this is a moment of reflection. Both of King Fruela’s first two sons went separate paths from their father since an early age. They were out of my grasp. And now it led to this, supporting a rebellion where one of them paid the ultimate prize. And, as an echo to Duke Garcia’s opinion from earlier, even the game defaults Prince García as the new heir. I guess I must accept this now, then. I officially make Prince García the heir. I may or not change this. I could still declare Gutierre as heir, and when King Fruela dies, Gutierre moves back to Iberia and Menorca also transfers. But well, I’ll do that or not depending on how things go down the road.

As for Fruela Jr’s death… there’s not much I can do about it. Go to war against the Byzantine Empire for revenge? They’re more powerful than me, and I’m still occupied fighting the Umayyad. There’s little to do. Except perhaps plot to kill the Basileus, but what could that accomplish? Not to mention, isn’t the current Basileus one of King Fruela’s cousins? Remember that Fruela’s mother was a Byzantine Princess. But I guess at this point it mattered little, if the Basileus was killing to kill his… uh, cousin once-removed? Second cousin? I don’t really know, to be honest.

August 11

I receive another request to send more troops to bolster the Oviedonian Band, you know, our sponsored mercenary company. At this point I haven’t kept track of its line of succession, though. Right now, it’s someone named Meir of Valchidol.

August 27

CKII%2016-16.png

The city of Guadalajara is ours, and warscore jumps to 44%.

October 15

CKII%2016-17.png

And now Prince García comes of age.

October 18

Also, Fruela’s niece, Adelgundis, has also come of age. Strategos Aniketo of Thessalonika sends the marriage proposal to fulfill the betroth, and I accept.

November 11

Another rebellion starts within the Umayyad. Led by Ya’qub vouching for Is’mail’s claim on Andalusia. It’s interesting to note how the people rebelling are not the Sultan’s family, who have the claims, but rather vassals and courtiers who want them over the Sultan.

November 14

Uen gets pregnant once more.

November 20

More raiders arrive, this time to Viscaya.

November 30

Bandits raid the siege camps.

December 4

CKII%2016-18.png

The Mosque of Sigüenza is the last to fall, bringing full control of Kunka and warscore to 52%. On to the next!

December 20

We arrive to siege Tulaytulah.

December 30

Before the year ends, I check over my plot. Two people have joined: Bishop Demmán of Ceann Lios, Chancellor of Connachta, and Ysbail, now just a courtier, once again joining a plot of mine.

Onward to 822AD!

January 3

Bandits raid the sieging camps.

January 13

Followed by another bandit attack.

January 16

And then raiders arrive to Navarra. And I take note the ones in Santinalla and Viscaya are just there. No looting, can’t siege, don’t move. Just what makes these raiders desire to just stay there and do nothing…

January 19

So, I get a notification that Caliph Aarif has come to the Umayyad’s defense against my war. Basically, the Abbasid Empire has joined. The Abbasid…

CKII%2016-19.png

*Looks at the levy size*

wUVsF72.gif

Well, all good things had to come to their end… This is bad. /understatement-of-the-century.

On the flip side, it might take them a while before they can come all the way over here. Who knows, maybe we can make it, right? Right…?

February 2

The defenders’ morale lowers due to rumors of a traitor in their midst.

February 17

Count Bermudo of Alto Aragón has died of smallpox. He’s been succeeded by his daughter, Estefania. Bermudo was my chancellor, so now I appoint Count Froila of Urgell to Sow Dissent in Qulumriyah.

March 20

And then Count Froila joins the ICP.

March 24

The defenders succumb to starvation.

May 9

Surprisingly, the raider group at Navarra is leaving. For once they’re being sensible! Not that it’s good for me, but with the war…

June 15

The newest child of King Fruela is born, Gómez Froilaz. Assigning him the Duty childhood focus.

July 12

Another event about a traitor among the defenders.

July 22

Thanks to technology spread, Burgos gain Siege Equipment I.

August 17

CKII%2016-20.png

The Wilayah of Tulaytulah falls, bringing warscore to 59%. On to the next.

September 1

The defenders succumb to starvation.

September 24

My steward collects a tithe from León. 72.95 gold. With the money I’ve gathered now, I begin construction of the next level of León’s Castle Town. Any Castle Town upgrade grants a flat +2 to income. So once this one’s done, it will grant a total bonus of +4 to income.

November 10

Another traitor event, and it helps drop the morale to win already the siege.

CKII%2016-21.png

Ah, the city of Madrid. The area is destined to become much more important, I can assure you.

November 26

Remember when Count Froila of Urgell ordered Baron Sancho of Puigcerda to revoke his title, and a war broke out? It took almost 10 years, but they finally ended that fight. The count won. Sancho’s title is revoked, and Froila obtains the title.

The rest of the years passes without much else of note, and we enter 823AD.

January 22

Count Froila of Urgell leaves the ICP.

February 1

Time to enact a new law.

CKII%2016-22.png

Shifting the burghers focus more into tax payment.

February 16

CKII%2016-23.png

The Mosque of Talavera is ours, bringing warscore to 77%.

February 25

Princess Beatriz has turned 12. With the traits of Timid, Affectionate, and Indolent, I assign her Diplomatic Education. And arrange a betroth with Strategos Kaisarios II of Adrianopolis.

March 2

The betroth is accepted. Also, I have the points to enact the Religious Customs II advance. If you remember, each level grants +3 to Temple Vassal Opinions.

March 15

CKII%2016-24.png

And next kid to come of age. And now can fulfill the betrothal made with Strategos Marinos of Krete.

March 28

And he makes the proposal, and gets accepted.

May 2

We’ve come under a new epidemic at Tarragona, Slow Fever. It started within the Umayyad, so we’ll spend a long time with it.

May 14

Yet another Umayyad revolt rises, this one led by Talib vouching on Sheikh Shaiban’s claim on Andalusia. My guess as to why everybody seems prime on obtaining Andalusia probably must do that the Umayyad capital was moved to Tlemcen, and making de jure Mauretania the Sultan’s main title. With this, it left jure Andalusia as a prize to be sought after, combined with the decadence and high number of legal claimants.

It will take a while before we see anybody winning there, since everybody is hostile to everybody, so the revolts will undermine each other in addition to having to fight the Sultan. Knowing the AI, though, the Umayyad themselves won’t take advantage of this.

July 11

Well, they’re here. An almost 3K Abbasid stack is now within my view. Fortunately, if that’s the only one in the area, it’s manageable.

July 23

The Abbasid attack me in Tulaytulah.

July 31

Prince García’s betroth has come of age, and so I receive the marriage proposal from her father.

August 25

CKII%2016-25.png

You know, I don’t really know what determines where battles take place, but often, it’s not where the defender is sieging. Well, when there’s someone sieging. If the defenders were in neutral/allied/occupied land, then who knows. But right now, the Wilayah of Illescas is our next target, and the battle rightfully took place there. Anyway, warscore jumps to 85%. Hopefully the next Abbasid stack is still far away

August 30

Raiders have arrived to Asturias de Oviedo. Unlike the other two groups that have yet to leave, this one are strong enough to start sieging. Ugh, this war better not hold me down long enough…

September 9

Count Diaco of Albarracin has died of pneumonia. He’s succeeded by his daughter, Ermenisinda.

October 11

Another request to send troops to the mercenary company. Sure.

October 14

CKII%2016-26.png

And the Wilayah falls, bringing warscore to 90%.

October 19

CKII%2016-27.png

The top option is a chance for her to gain the Content trait. Bottom one is a straight gain of the Humble trait. I go for the latter.

Also, yet another revolt rises with the Umayyad. Led by Muhammad also for Prince Abdallah’s claim on Andalusia.

November 7

In dire news, Prince Gonzalo has come up with the flu.

November 16

Gaudiosa, the second daughter of Prince Johan, has turn 12. With the traits of Brooding, Fussy, and Curious, I assign her Stewardship education, and betroth her to Strategos Basileios of Cybyrrhaeot, which is accepted in November 24.

November 28

Count Artau, my Steward, has secluded himself.

December 4

CKII%2016-28.png

And with the Mosque of Orgaz, warscore jumps to 95% and war goal has been reached. So close, but the Abbasid may also be closing in! I’m not sure if I can wait it out for that last 5%, but in any case, I move my levies to continue sieging another sheikhdom.

December 19

My levies begin to siege Plasencia.

And thus, we continue into 824AD.

January 29

The raiders at Oviedo left. Okay, I see now. It’s specifically the ones at Santillana and Viscaya that refuse to leave for… some reason…

February 1

OMG, an 8K Abbasid stack is coming this way! Warscore is only 97%, time to flee!

March 3

Castle Town II at León is finished.

March 17

Brunechildis, the only child of the late Prince Silo, has turn 12. With the traits of Brooding, Conscientious, and Timid, I assign her Stewardship education, and betroth her to Count Ragnachar of Évreux, found just west of Paris.

March 18

Uh oh, my Chancellor got caught. He’s been imprisoned by Mayor Faruk of Aveiro. As such, I assign Count Adelfonso of Viscaya as new Chancellor. But can’t assign him a job as he’s leading troops.

March 22

The betrothal is accepted.

April 1

CKII%2016-29.png

And warscore reached 100%. As you can see, Kunka is renamed to Cuenca, and Tulaytulah to Toledo.

CKII%2016-30.png

Ah, half of Iberia is practically ours. Or almost, I think. And look at the Umayyad, they’re crumbling from the inside. And I haven’t showed how it looks in North Africa, though it is less of a mess in comparison to Iberia. It’s just a matter of those rebellions bearing fruit, now. This is going to turn into a waiting game.

And another chapter passes by. This was the last before I bought M&M, so expect next one to start going through the new features and stuff.

Until next time!

On 13/3/2017 at 11:54 PM, blah the Prussian said:

Holy crap, that cut it close.

Ah, certainly. You know you've come far when the Caliph himself starts to get involved.

Chapter XVII – Monks and Mystics

April 1, 824AD – June 3, 827AD

Spoiler

So, this is the first chapter that will contain v2.7 and Monks and Mystics content. I’ll go over the new stuff as we go along, or at least, relevant to the LP. But first, I’ll send my levies to those two raiders groups. They’ve been too content to stay in our lands, it seems.

One thing I’ll do, is to change my plot. My target will now be King Adelchis of Lombardy. Here’s the reason: He only has a daughter and son. The son is dead, and his daughter, if you remember, is married to Prince Johan, King Fruela’s brother. So, right now Adelchis’s heir is his daughter. The King is already 65 years old and his first wife is dead, but has remarried. You may see what my plan is now, I must remove the king before he has the chance to get a new heir. But I assure you, I will put a Cantabria on the Lombard throne!

One thing I’ll do from now on is enact the See Realm Prosper ambition whenever I can, even if it’s unlikely I’ll ever fulfill it, due to the constant wars. It’s mostly for that Global Revolt Risk reduction, 1% it may be and for as little as it may be in effect.

Newly obtained counties mean giving away the titles. For the counties themselves, I grant Molina to Gutierre, a courtier. After this, I had to enact the Invite Holy Man to Court decision, since I had run out of suitable (to me) courtiers. This generates a courtier, Pelayo, to who I grant Cuenca. I’ll keep Toledo for a little while longer.

CKII%2017-1.png

Next order of business is to create a duchy, Navarra, formed with the counties of Nájera, Navarra, and Viscaya. As you could probably tell, the county of Navarra is the de jure capital, so I grant the duchy to Count Mauregato of Navarra. The restructure of the chain of commands means I need to appoint a new Chancellor, so I grant it to Dudai of Chariopolis. And now, time to explain a M&M feature, because it’s time to assign some new jobs...

CKII%2017-2.png

One of the features that Monks and Mystics has is to give each Council position a 4th job each. For the Chancellor, it’s Perform Statecraft. As you can see, it increases the Threat Decay Speed (high Threat is what causes other countries to enact stuff like Defensive Pacts and the like), and has the chance to increase relations with vassals and neighbors. When it comes down to it, this is superior to the regular Improve Diplomatic Relations job, at least in my opinion. The key difference here is that IDR it’s only centered to a single county, so you can narrow down if you aim to better relations with a specific person. Perform Statecraft is country-wide, so there’s a bigger pool of people to select. I still go with PS, since I don’t particularly mind that, and then there’s also Threat Decay Speed boost that PS has and IDR doesn’t, which is quite valuable to me.

For the Marshall, it’s Organize the Army. As you can see, it lowers the costs to reinforce/maintain retinues, and can either find commanders or improve the ones we have. This job doesn’t overlap with the rest, unlike the Chancellor’s. So, I go with it, since I do want to have good commanders, and lower retinue costs.

And now, the bread and butter of the DLC…

CKII%2017-3.png

Societies!

These groups open a whole different world of stuff that can happen in the game. There are various societies to join, all with requirements. Some will be considered “secret”, which means there’s little we can know about them so long we’re not part of them. Don’t know if it’s because I loaded M&M content with a save file that didn’t had it, but for now, only the Benedictine Order is on the list, and empty. Well… sure, why not, let’s join. Since no one else is there, King Fruela becomes Grandmaster by default.

So, at first glance, what I can see is this: societies have four ranks. The fourth one, Conversus (I suspect rank names will be different depending on the society), is reserved for the leader, in this case, Fruela. Each rank carries certain modifiers, as you can see, and they also can open decisions and stuff. Society leadership is usually hereditary, like the regular game mechanic, but the condition is a bit different. Succession is determined with Member Score, which raises depending on certain stuff. The one with the highest score below the Conversus is the heir of the society.

CKII%2017-4.png

These are two other important factors in a society. Society Influence is straightforward, and Devotion is basically the society’s “currency”. You need Devotion to enact certain things, including ranking up, if I remember correctly. Well, not that I need to rank up further, but Devotion still has use.

One last thing to do before we properly start. I can now ransom one of my last prisoners. Princess Parween, husband of Prince Talib, uncle of Sultan Jabir. Just 10 gold, but it’s something. And now… we begin!

April 9

Due to the prospect of facing against my levies, and raised levies from my vassals (their own, not the ones I can raise), the raiders are smart this time and know when to cut their losses, for both groups (at Asturias de Santillana and Viscaya) flee. Well, it’s bad they fled with whatever gold they’ve looted, but the fact they did restores my hopes of sensible AI. I know, I know…

April 17

The ransom is paid.

April 20

We get our first person signing up to our society. Mayor Guaifer of Bassano, Chancellor or Treviso. The first rank in the society is the Oblatus. By the way, keeping track of who joins and leaves is a bit of a chore, especially when someone leaves. So, don’t expect me to keep track. I may give some vague upkeeps on that, but not much more.

Also, raiders have arrived at Oviedo. Now, I just send my retinues, instead of raising levies.

April 25

I receive the event about a vassal attempting to promote vile heresies, he being Count Álvaro of Empuries. This time I choose to expose him. This gives me justification to imprison him… but then I see he’s Infirm. It’s a 66% of successful imprisonment… but, well, he’s not long for this world if he’s Infirm. Hmm…

May 21

King Creat of France died in an accident. Hmm, I wonder, was it an accident, or “accident”? And then… well, remember when Karl died and he had his titles split between his two sons? Well…

CKII%2017-5.png

Pictured: Bordergore

Yeah… yeah… King Creat had four sons… so now we have France, Middle Francia, East Francia, and Aquitaine as the main kingdoms emerging from the split. Any others are just secondary titles to the new kings.

May 23

Now, this is something I haven’t done, but I think it’s probably time to do so.

CKII%2017-6.png

Summer Fairs are only available to enact from May to August, I believe. There are several events that can trigger, all with various outcomes. It only costs 25 gold… to start. Well, you may sometimes end up using up more, or even gain it. Again, depending on things. As it is, it’s not a bad idea to enact them every year. Maybe I’ll do just that from now on.

June 6

CKII%2017-7.png

Ah, results from the Marshall’s new job. This is good. By the way, other stuff can happen. Sometimes, there will be also a chance for just a +1 Martial increase. In others, the Commander will gain a battle trait. It all depends from the RNG and the Marshall’s competence, I guess. For the record, I forgot to check if Commander Uri gained +2 or +3.

June 7

CKII%2017-8.png

And here’s one possible event from Summer Fairs. The bottom one is a 5 prestige gain but need to pay 5 gold. The top one just raises a vassal’s opinion, as you can see. I chose that one.

June 12

We fight the raiders at Oviedo.

June 27

CKII%2017-9.png

Another event about the Summer Fair. The bottom option grants a temporal +5 to Local Revolt Risk. I take the temporal reduction of a vassal’s opinion instead.

June 29

CKII%2017-10.png

And we take care of the raiders.

July 22

CKII%2017-11.png

And the fair is over. Well, results were alright. Didn’t really gained anything significant, but neither things went bad. Maybe next year…

July 28

It has begun. King Radulf of Middle Francia has declared war on his brother, King Munderic of East Francia, for his titles. Will France ever be reunited again? We’ll see…

August 26

Another event of King Fruela spending time with one of his children. In this case, it was with Princess Beatriz.

September 24

My Spymaster reports that Countess Vistravara is trying to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Galicia. Hmm, this may not be good. One thing was helping someone else take the title, but another is taking it for herself. Hmm…

October 2

Raiders have arrived to Viscaya. Time to send the retinue.

October 11

And then more arrive to Asturias de Oviedo.

October 26

CKII%2017-12.png

First event related to the Order. Top option does nothing, and the bottom one is a 50% of losing the Content trait… and start the Society Mission to steal it. Which, per the description, says it’s the “Seamless Robe of Jesus”. Nah, going for the middle one. A generous amount of gold spent, but I think I prefer to please the Order.

November 3

CKII%2017-13.png

Feasts are like Summer Fairs. Available from November to the end of the year, this can also bring certain outcomes depending on how things go.

November 7

My retinue attacks the raiders at Viscaya.

November 8

CKII%2017-14.png

And first thing related to the Feast. Other option is a 10 prestige loss. Eh, 10 gold isn’t a lot at this point, might as well, if it can help to have good outcomes at the Feast. And I must admit, it is amusing that the King is the one opening the door. Yeah, it happens. He probably also just opens the Castle Gate to pick up the morning paper… wait, not paper exactly, Gutenberg has yet to be born… the morning parchment?

November 13

My Marshall once again helps improve one of my commanders. This time with Mayor Gil of Villablino. In addition to the Martial increase, he also gained the Defender trait.

CKII%2017-15.png

Next Feast related event. Sending the peasants does nothing, and the option to send a son choses Prince García. The effects you see are universal, only applying to whoever goes to hunt. King Fruela, Prince García, or Prince Johan. I decided to send Johan. RNG dictates that nothing happens. Well, it did have 80% of happening…

November 18

CKII%2017-16.png

First group of raiders fought off. On to the next!

Next son of King Fruela to turn 12 is Prince Gonzalo. With the Contentious, Affectionate, and Rowdy traits, I assign him Diplomatic education. One small detail new to v2.7 is that the trait icons now appear next to each Education icon, with a green or red border. It’s a small visual help that is quite welcomed to me, I’d say. And I betroth him to Countess Ruothilde of Guines, near the Channel.

November 19

CKII%2017-17.png

The bottom option is a loss of both 5 gold and prestige. Top option is a 20 gold payment, but you gain 10 prestige. I decided on the middle option, just a small 10 gold loss. Sure, I could’ve paid 10 more gold for the prestige… but well, I’d rather not have too many expenses at once.

November 24

The betrothal is accepted.

CKII%2017-18.png

Once the preparations phase is over, next comes the second part: the feast itself, which starts with the invitations. And one outcome is…

November 26 – November 27

CKII%2017-19.png

People refusing to go. Thankfully, it seems only the opinion drop is from King Fruela to the characters, not them to him. Other people not attending were: Duke Diego, Mayor Enrique, Bishop Nuño, and Count Hussayn.

December 4

CKII%2017-20.png

A good outcome of having chosen that option about the relic. Nice, specially that Diplomacy increase.

In other good news, another of our Bishops, Lope of Sant Cugat, made it to the College of Cardinals.

December 14

CKII%2017-21.png

The Feast has begun!

December 24

CKII%2017-22.png

And this is one of the good outcomes of the Feast events.

December 26

My retinue fights the other raider group in Oviedo.

December 28

CKII%2017-23.png

Such a scandal! Bottom option gives King Fruela the Arbitrary trait, and a slight increase in revolt risk. Yeah, pass. Middle one is just a 15 gold payment. So, I decide for top option, as it gives the Just trait, which as you see it is quite good. And Bishop Juan is imprisoned. Hmm, what should we do with him…?

What a way to end the year and enter 825AD…

January 3

CKII%2017-24.png

And the feast is over. Unlike Summer Fairs, I’m not really going to enact Feasts every year. Maybe every occasionally, or so.

January 11

CKII%2017-25.png

And the other raider group has been taken care of.

Now, time to switch my plot. I have a courtier with weak claims to Rosello, as she’s the daughter of the Count and is married to… uh, I know it’s one of my vassals/courtuers, but forgot who. Anyway, Rosello is de jure to one of the duchies I control, though I haven’t created that title yet. In the inheritance chain, the Count has three sons who go before any son of the daughter. So, those three must… go. And I start with the eldest, Gausbold Hermenelds. He’s only 14, but better do it now than to have him get married and have sons of his own, increasing the number of people in-between.

February 6

Duke Silo of Galicia died of poor health, he has been succeeded by his son, João.

March 26

CKII%2017-26.png

New roads, huh. Sure, why not.

May 1

Time to call forth another Summer Fair.

May 18

Once again, the event about the monkey trainer, with the chance to increase the opinion of a vassal. This time, the one I can increase his opinion is Bishop Juan (different guy from the one who got imprisoned), so I do.

May 29

CKII%2017-27.png

The top option is a chance for him to gain Brave. However, with how he’s shaping up, it’s best to settle with Honest.

June 7

CKII%2017-28.png

Top option is an increase to the revolt risk. Middle one gives 10 piety but decreases the opinion of a vassal, Bishop Luis, by 10. So, I go for bottom one, since Gregarious is a good trait. Unfortunately, 25% wasn’t enough to gain it. RNG dictated otherwise.

June 30

The Summer Fair is over. 10 more prestige gained.

July 9

Sheikh Is’mail of Algeciras died a natural death. His war of independence against one of the Umayyad revolts counts as lost by default, and the sheikhdom goes back to them.

July 13

Count Gutierre of Barcelona died of slow fever, he was succeeded by his son, Rodrigo. Now I’m without Court Physician again, so I enact the decision to call forth another.

July 29

CKII%2017-29.png

And our next Court Physician. Sephardi, by the way.

August 1

Hmm, one of the Umayyad revolts is gone. Emir Halil opted for white peace, and is now imprisoned. This could be bad, if Sultan Jabir can crush all revolts, then the Umayyad won’t be weakened.

October 5

Another event of a Jew arriving at my court. Chaninai of Aksum, Sephardi.

October 15

CKII%2017-30.png

Albarracin, Alto Aragón, Calatayud, and Zaragoza form the Duchy of Aragón, which as you see I now create. I figured I should just get those out of the way. Zaragoza is the de jure capital, so I grant the Duchy to Count Artau.

And nothing of note for the rest of the year. 826AD now begins…

January 1

Duke Artau of Aragón has declared war on Countess Ermenisinda of Albarracin to revoke her title. Ah, an ambitious Duke, he turned out.

January 11

Another request to reinforce the mercenary company. Despite maintaining them means a little penalty to my levy amount, the cut of their gold gains that goes to me will only increase the bigger they are, since they can charge more. It’s a price I’m willing to pay, not like it’s that big of a levy penalty, anyway.

January 20

When I took the Toledo area, a Keep was under construction in Toledo itself. It’s now been finished. Once I start to build them myself, I’ll go over what Keeps grant.

February 19

The time has come to finally turn Princess Milia’s betrothal with Strategos Maximos II of Aegean Islands to turn into a proper marriage. It’s accepted on March 1.

April 19

More technology points from the Spymaster, Economic. Allowing me to have Castle Infrastructure II. If you remember, it adds to Castle Tax in addition to the standard building unlocks.

May 1

CKII%2017-31.png

The last Duchy I can create. Formed with the counties of Barcelona, Empuries, Lleida, Rosello, Tarragona, and Urgell. All but Rosello are part of my realm, so that’s more than the 51% county requirement. Since the Duchy is now officially created, this grants me casus belli to claim Rosello through war, since the title it is de jure part of would be in my hands, or that of a vassal’s. Speaking of, Barcelona is de jure capital, so the Duchy is granted to Count Rodrigo.

June 11

Prince García has become a father, to a boy, García Garces. I assign him with the Pride childhood focus.

July 15

Time for another Summer Fair.

July 25

My Chancellor, in nature of the new job from the DLC, has increased relations with Sultan Jabir. Well, it did stated neighbors were fair target. As noble as it may seem his attempt to patch things between King Fruela and Sultan Jabir, I’m afraid we aren’t through a Reconquista for nothing.

August 6

CKII%2017-32.png

Ah, something different. Top option gives King Fruela the Paranoid trait. Pass. Middle one angers the peasants, increasing revolt risk. Pass again. So, just that little payment and approval from a Vassal. Safest outcome, in my opinion.

In the meantime, Count Sans of Calatayud seeks to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Aragón.

August 27

Princess María has turned 12. With the traits of Curious, Idolizer, and Rowdy, I assign her Stewardship education. Despite not having positive traits for it (in fact, Idolizer is negative), it is her highest stat. I betroth her to King Radulf. Because it’s not enough attempts securing alliance-through-marriage with the Karlings. It’s accepted on September 2.

September 13

The Summer Fair is over, 10 more prestige gained.

December 1

Count Nunno of Tarragona seeks to fabricate a claim on the Ducky of Barcelona.

December 26

CKII%2017-33.png

Ah, it happens. Don’t know if there’s another outcome if we chose to help, but for now, we can either have them owe us a favor, or increase their opinion of us. I chose the latter, as you can see.

And so, we now enter 827AD.

January 1

CKII%2017-34.png

Oh, another religion shift. Interesting…

January 3

CKII%2017-35.png

It finally happened. Sultan Jabir was forced to give away the Sultanate of Andalusia. The title now goes to the now Sultan Fadl. As you see, the split wasn’t quite… even, since the Umayyad (now only composed of the Sultanate of Mauretania) still have holdings in Iberia, as well as Andalusia having bits of North Africa, including the now capital, Massat. I think it’s because Andalusia’s de jure capital remained with the Umayyad.

Now, as you see, the rebellions are still there. If you remember, those uprisings are to put someone else as Sultan of Andalusia, so Sultan Fadl is not yet the winner, for he must defend the title now.

Sorry it took so long. My power cable died, and it took days to buy another. That said, updates may take longer now. My choice, as I should cut back on the time I dedicate to this. Mostly due to school stuff. The usual.

Well, until next time!

Chapter XVIII – Leveling the Field

June 3, 827AD – November 10, 829AD

Spoiler

So, the Umayyad have split…

CKII%2018-1.png

… and they’ll still be busy with the revolts. Unfortunately, one sheikhdom of Portucale remained in Umayyad hands. Ah well, we’ll deal with that later. So, raising my levies, we’re off!

January 22

We begin to siege Castelo Branco.

January 30

I receive a notification that Duke João has revoked the Bishopric of Mondoñedo from Guttier de Praula. This seems to come out of nowhere. Hmm…

February 15

Lucius II has died. The new Pope is Urbanus III.

CKII%2018-2.png

Princess Beatriz has come of age, and now I can arrange her marriage with Strategos Kaisarios II of Adrianopolis.

February 22

Emir Fadil’s revolt was crushed. That said, instead of integrating into Andalusia, he got to strike on his own, as the independent Qashid Emirate, in the southwest corner of Iberia. Hmm, this could be good later, if he remains independent.

February 25

The marriage proposal goes through.

February 27

The last of my levies arrive to Castelo Branco.

March 2

Duke Artau won in his war against Countess Ermenisinda of Albarracin. He usurped her title.

March 14

I gift gold to Mayor Siclevold of Cotlliure, to gain allies for my plot. Unfortunately, despite being on the fence, he ended up now refusing to join. Surprisingly a first.

March 18

CKII%2018-3.png

The bottom option makes her Zealous, I decided to gamble on the chance to make her Kind, instead. It paid off.

June 6

Raiders arrived at Asturias de Santinalla. I split off my retinue from the siege to go fight them.

June 26

My Marshall has trained another commander, Bishop Gonzalo of Orgaz, gaining the Siege Leader trait and +2 Martial. Siege Leader speeds up sieging if he’s leading the army, so, I promptly place him to lead the center column.

August 4

CKII%2018-4.png

The Wilayah of Castelo Branco is the first to fall, bringing warscore to 5%, and… I had stopped wondering about the decimals… but I think this takes the cake so far. 0.016 of a man!? I can’t even… Or maybe someone had a sixth finger or something. Wait, 0.016 would be too low for a whole finger… not all baby teeth fell? I know that can happen.

August 14

My retinue fights the raiders Asturias de Santinalla.

August 15

More raiders arrived at Coruña.

August 17

The defenders have succumbed to starvation.

August 26

CKII%2018-5.png

Wait, what? I don’t know what exactly triggered this. Bummer.

August 27

Supplies are smuggled into the besieged place.

September 6

Apparently, they weren’t enough because they’re starving again.

September 8

CKII%2018-6.png

And the raiders are dealt with. Time to bring the retinue back.

September 10

Andalusia’s Sultan Fadl died of Gout complications. His son, Ali, is the new Sultan.

September 12

Mayor Siclevold had a change of mind, it seems, for he has now joined the plot, despite his earlier refusal. Next person to gift gold, courtier Valerija Lanik.

September 20

CKII%2018-7.png

The City of Covilhã is next to fall, bringing warscore to 16%.

October 1

Sultan Jabir has joined the battle to defend Sultan Ali. In a good note, Valerija joins right away the plot, instead of suddenly refusing.

October 15

Time to upgrade Palencia’s Castle Town.

October 25

High Chief Masmud II of Masmudid High Chiefdom has joined the war.

November 16

This time waiting for it, Strategos Basileios of Cibyrrhaeot sends the marriage propoposal for Gaudiosa, which I accept. And next person to gift gold so they join the plot: Bishop Magneric of Cuixà… or could’ve, because he too now refused to join!

November 19

CKII%2018-8.png

The Mosque of Guarda is the last to fall, sheikhdom fully controlled and warscore rises to 22%. On to the next!

December 4

We begin to siege Braganҫa.

December 11

CKII%2018-9.png

Another Pope posthumously disgraced. In other news, Bishop Magneric changed his mind and joined my plot.

And the rest of the year passes by and we enter 828AD.

February 1

I spot an enemy stack coming north towards me.

February 22

Pope Urbanus II has died, replaced with Leo III.

February 24

Next people to bribe for the plot, Grimald, one of the Commanders; and Frothard Australdling, the Court Chaplain.

February 26

Once more the “Order Member falls asleep during prayer” event triggers, but with a different guy. With these I’ll always choose to wake them, and to not have them owe us. If something different ever happens, I’ll let you know.

March 4

The enemy stack attack me. They have more men, but have to endure the river crossing penalty.

March 18

CKII%2018-10.png

Fortunately, King Fruela regains the Brave trait.

April 1

CKII%2018-11.png

We won! Bringing warscore to 42%. In even better news, the Umayyad suffer another revolt, this time against the Sultan’s tyranny. And the two I gifted gold have joined my plot. Though still nothing has been triggered on that last front.

April 16

My Chancellor has increased relations with Sultan Ali. Yeah, improve relations with the guy we’re at war with. Heh. At the same time, I see another enemy stack coming north.

May 16

The enemy has started to liberate Castelo Branco.

June 19

CKII%2018-12.png

The Wilayah of Braganҫa is first to fall, bringing warscore to 49%. At this point, I call forth my vassals’ levies, and move them to reinforce my siege.

July 5

My Chancellor once more increases relations with Sultan Ali.

July 12

The first enemy stack is moving to attack me again. The one sieging Castelo Branco has stopped and is also moving to attack.

July 16

My main levy is attacked. There’s still the other enemy stack, but my own reinforcements are coming over as well.

August 19

CKII%2018-13.png

OMG!!! We killed the Umayyad Sultan! His son, Prince Shiaban, becomes the new Sultan. In less impressive news, Countess Menenda of Lleida starts to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Barcelona.

August 26

CKII%2018-14.png

This was an intense battle. Fortunately, I still have soldiers yet to arrive. Anyway, we now have warscore of 63%.

September 6

CKII%2018-15.png

And the City falls as well, bringing warscore to 73%.

September 15

An event pops out which can make Prince Gonzalo either Temperate (assured), or Just (chance). I chose the latter, and the RNG favors me. Also, he has come of age, gaining the Charismatic Negotiator trait

October 1

A peasant revolt rises within the Umayyad.

October 25

Count Ragnachar of Évreux has come of age, so I can now propose his betrothal with King Fruela’s niece, Brunechildis, to become a marriage.

November 1

Marriage arrangement accepted, and more peasants rise in revolt within the Umayyad.

November 5

The last men arrive at Braganҫa.

November 6

CKII%2018-16.png

Just in time to see the Mosque of Chaves fall and warscore rise to 81%, and securing the whole Sheikhdom. Sorry boys, you’ll get your chance with the next.

November 11

The Lombard King now has a son, Desiderius. I had given up on my plot to kill the King, so it didn’t matter at this point. It’s one reason why I don’t think plotting to kill the whole lot of heirs before the one you want is put in charge to be quite effective. They can take so long new heirs will be born before you can finally off someone. Ah well…

December 6

We begin to siege Porto.

And thus, the rest of the year passes by and we enter 829AD.

February 15

One of the big enemy stacks has begun to liberate Castelo Branco.

February 20

My plot target now has a daughter, Rotrude Hermenelds. Fortunately, succession laws over there don’t put her “in the way”, so to speak, over my courtiers.

February 28

After who knows how long, Duke Artau finally comes out of seclusion. Dude, the epidemic left long ago! I had half a mind thinking of replacing him… ah well, back to work with you, with the new job thanks to the DLC.

CKII%2018-17.png

Administer the Realm, the new Stewardship job from the DLC. I like this one. I’ll be going with this over Collecting Taxes, for the time being.

March 24

Time to start building the next Castle Town level in Zamora.

March 25

The one in Palencia is done, making it now tier II.

April 10

King Adelchis died comatose in bed. Only months old, his son is now King Desiderius II of Lombardy. Okay, even I would think it may be too far to plot to kill a baby. I’ll let him be, even if it is a risk on losing out on having my dynasty lose out on inheriting Lombardy.

April 26

The other enemy stack is now liberating Braganҫa.

April 29

CKII%2018-18.png

The Wilayah of Porto is captured, bringing warscore to 87%.

May 2

An event pops up for Princess María. The usual of “one option to gain X trait, another for a chance to gain Y trait”. Except it’s between Brave (chance) and Dull (assured). Yeah, no way I’m going for her to become Dull. Thankfully, the RNG complies, and she gains the Brave trait.

May 22

I spot a third enemy stack coming north.

June 28

A marriage proposal arrives from Countess Routhildeof Guines to marry Prince Gonzalo. Well, it was the betrothal, so yes, I accept to the proposal.

August 9

All three enemy stacks have converged in Braganҫa! Oh man, that’s over 6K men. And… remain there. They could easily crush me, but are instead focusing on continuing the liberation. Well, this buys me time. Fun little fact: levy size barely changes siege speed. So, more soldiers do not equate to faster sieges, at least from what I’ve seen so far. Sieging speed relies more on Advances, and traits from Commanders.

August 16

CKII%2018-19.png

The Wilayah of Viana do Castelo falls, bringing warscore to 91%.

September 30

CKII%2018-20.png

Oh, what’s this. A request to grant a title to one of his unlanded sons? Bottom options gives Sunifriedo de Sales the County of Valladolid, and Duke Artau owes us a favor. Top option I gain 200 prestige and the county is granted as well. I chose the middle option, which does nothing, so that means no negative consequences either. I don’t have land to give right now (at least, when it comes to getting rid of excess demesne) … but well, I am currently in a Holy War to gain some more. So, I will keep this in mind. Yeah, the 200 prestige would’ve been a nice boost, but oh well…

October 4

CKII%2018-21.png

The Mosque of Braga is next, bringing warscore to 98%. Ugh, don’t like it when that happens. Okay, sometimes, the enemy is willing to accept surrendering at 99% or even 98%, but 100% is normally the only time. Considering the huge stack next door trying to undo my progress…

November 10

CKII%2018-22.png

But fortunately, I could take the City of Guimarães in time, bringing warscore to 100%.

CKII%2018-23.png

And end the war. It’s a shame I couldn’t take the entirety of the area, because the Umayyad were able to hold on to that one sheikhdom. Oh well, next time.

I think I’m going to go for a weekly update basis from now on. That should be enough time. Well, until next time!

Chapter XIX – Disconnect

November 10, 829AD – April 2, 834AD

Spoiler

Time to do the usual, give away the minor titles and extra demesne. The County of Porto I grant to Lope, a courtier. And remembering about Duke Artau having unlanded sons, I grant one of his, Sunifriedo, the County of Braganҫa.

Next order of business is to betroth Prince Garcia with Thiedburga, relative of Duke Ekbert of Brunswick. Garcia the son of Garcia, the current heir of King Fruela, if you remember. Anyway, I got the points to enact Legalism II for León. Which if you remember, unlocks a couple laws, but I already took care of that back when we were still the Kingdom of Asturias.

So, time to begin!

November 18

My Court Chaplain reports Salamanca has become majority Catholic. Good, good. Now I send him to Proselyte in Molina.

November 23

The betrothal is accepted, and now what I will do is to grant the County of Toledo to my heir, Prince Garcia. The reason is that so far, he didn’t had land to call his own, making him unlanded. Unlanded sons grant a monthly prestige reduction, negligible at this point considering how much I gain, but at the same time, unlanded sons won’t gain as much prestige per month as if they had land. Considering Prince Garcia, without issue, will be the next character we’ll control, then better not restrict his prestige. I did wait until he had a son of his son and I arranged a betrothal, since otherwise that would’ve been out of my control.

December 8

In unfortunate circumstances, my Court Chaplain is attacked by heathens. Unfortunate since it’s only a 1.03% chance of happening yearly. Well, okay, years aren’t exactly short to say 1.03% is a low amount. He gained the Wounded trait, but hopefully it won’t turn worse.

And so, the rest of the year passes by and we enter 830AD.

January 7

Emir Halil, an Andalusian Emir, has declare war on Umayyad Sultan Shaiban to obtain Qulumriyah. I doubt he’ll be successful, but oh well.

February 17

CKII%2019-1.png

So, this happened. Hmm, considering his traits and stuff, it’s hard to say if he’s really a heretic. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. The Court Chaplain won’t be pleased, naturally, but the opinion penalty isn’t big.

March 4

I upgrade Valladolid’s Castle Town.

April 26

Another Order event related about a member dabbling in poetry has triggered. The usual options of giving critique or ignore it are presented. I chose the former.

April 28

CKII%2019-2.png

The plot is finally going somewhere.

May 10

Time for another summer fair.

May 18

Once more the event of the discreet archer. I once more chose the bottom option, the one where I just pay him and a vassal increases his opinion of me.

Sultan Ali of Andalusia has defeated one of the revolts. The one in the southeast, who just like with the previous defeated revolt, it now is an independent Emirate. The Djazairid Emirate, led by Emir Abd-al-Malik II, who was the leader of the revolt.

May 20

The next event about the Order member and his poetry. With the same options of publishing as-is or have the Order guard them until they’re ready, I chose the latter.

May 26

CKII%2019-3.png

Oh, how… unfortunate…

Time to go after the next brother, Ailbert Hermenelds.

June 7

CKII%2019-4.png

A new event in the fair. Heh, good to see the King has a sense of humor. And as with these events, the selected vassal is randomized. Or at least, it usually is, but never outside a specific county per fair, I would guess.

June 16

The Order member writes poetry event chain comes to an end, with a friendship forming between the King and the guy.

June 27

CKII%2019-5.png

Top option gives a significant temporal drop to the local revolt risk, but comes with a 25% chance of King Fruela becoming Cruel. Even if it’s just 25%, I don’t really need the local revolt risk drop, so I’ll settle for just the 5 gold.

June 29

Checking my plot, I see Commander Grimald and Court Chaplain Frothald Australdling have joined once more.

July 9

The Summer Fair has come to an end.

July 19

Pelagio de Cantabria, Prince Johan’s son, has turn 12. With the Haughty, Brooding, and Timid traits, I assign him Intrigue Education, and betroth him Princess Leontia, daughter of Basileus Raphail of the Byzantine Empire. Apparently the Isaurios were deposed, because these are now the Koutzodaktylos.

July 27

Sultan Shaibad died under… mysterious circumstances… hmm. His brother, Murad, is the new Sultan. Fratricide? Discontent vassals? Someone outside the Sultanate? We’ll never know…

July 31

The betroth is accepted. Now, here’s what I’m going to do next: I’ll disband my Light Skirmish retinue.

CKII%2019-6.png

Because I’m replacing them with a Defense Retinue. This decision is because from what I’ve search up, these are among the best, if not the best, you can use when it comes to, well, defend your realm. Granted, it may probably take more than one and a suitable commander to lead them, but for now, this will do.

August 14

CKII%2019-7.png

I’ll be honest, I don’t know if this is a standard Chancellor event, or because he’s Jewish. In any case, more technology points, nice.

August 15

Princess Maria has come of age, gaining the Thrifty Clerk trait.

September 3

The Castle Town II upgrade is done at Zamora.

September 4

Duke Artau triggers a Steward event, which is about bettering the infrastructure and people working harder, but unfortunately, I didn’t check the actual in-game bonus to explain what this does.

September 16

Raiders arrive to Santiago. Time to send my levies, since this group is too big for the retinue, which is still gathering strength.

October 5

And we engage them in battle.

October 24

My Marshall has trained another of my commanders, Bishop Ponҫ of Caspe, even gaining the Siege Leader trait. This one is a must to have, I’d say.

October 25

CKII%2019-8.png

We fought the raiders off, and other than the 50 prestige gain for the guy, I don’t know if this event triggers something else. I don’t think he’s one of my Commanders, but considering the event, he could make a good candidate for one, I’d think.

December 28

Pope Leo III had died, succeed by Pope Nicolaus.

And we soon enter 831AD.

January 9

More technology points from Constantinople. Cultural Points.

March 10

I receive a notification that Count Suniefredo of Braganҫa seeks to kill Duke João of Galicia. Hmm, I wonder why exactly. It’s not like there’s a De Jure as reason, since the county of the former is not part of the duchy of the latter.

March 22

Sultan Ali has made white peace with another revolt to claim Andalusia. This time the one from Talib. As with the other one, Emir Talib is now ruler of an independent Emirate, Nadirid.

April 1

I receive a notification about Count Sunifriedo having a son… with Mafalda Tellez, aka not his wife. Ah, a bastard son. Well, I assign him the Struggle focus. Name’s Garcia, by the way.

As the month passes I take note both Umayyad and Andalusia are busy with their fights.

April 22

CKII%2019-9.png

Time to go after the independent Emirates. Granada is all they have, so I’m effectively on a conquest war here. I raise my levies again, and send them south.

May 12

Checking my plot, Mayor Siclevold and Bishop Magneric once more join a plot of mine. The fact the same people are joining another plot of mine against the same family should show you what their vassals must think of them.

May 27

Or perhaps not too distracted, for Sultan Ali has come to Djazairid’s defense.

June 2

Huh, another bastard son, named Sunifriedo, of Count Sinifriedo has been born? This time from Winidilda de Cantabria. Well, I assign him the Thrift focus.

July 19

Thanks to technology spread, León gains Improved Keeps II.

July 20

My levies begin to arrive at Granada. To my luck, the Umayyad got caught up fighting rebels just to the west. In a side note, I order to upgrade León’s Castle Walls.

August 1

CKII%2019-10.png

Ah, good to see we’re making progress on the cultural transition. Well, granted, the notifications only happen for my own demesne, not the one of vassals. So I can’t know exactly when a place switches if they’re not my personal demesne.

August 2

Supplies were smuggled into Granada.

August 12

Valladolid’s Castle Town II is finished.

August 16

One of my smaller levies was intercepted in La Mancha. This could be bad, but…

August 25

CKII%2019-11.png

It wasn’t as bad as it could be. No warscore gain for them, even.

September 26

CKII%2019-12.png

Interesting. The bottom option grants the same bonuses, except the text states King Fruela will ask his councilors to search, instead of sending Hussayn himself.

November 17

Except Count Hussayn died of cancer not even a month later. His daughter, Sancha, becomes the new Countess of Asturias de Santinalla, and the ICP disbands. Of all people, Count Sunifiedro is now the best suitable for Spymaster. And as much we know, sending him to Constantinople to Study Technology won’t stop him from siring a few other illegitimate children.

November 30

Emir Muyahid of Nadirid Emirate has joined the war.

December 4

CKII%2019-13.png

A new Advance I can show. As you see, tolerance decreases the opinion penalties from cultures and religions. Personally, I don’t know if this affects the chances of cultural and religious conversion. Ah well, not like it’s the main factor for my Council’s chances in those jobs.

And the years passes by and we enter 832AD.

January 13

High Chief Masmud II of Masmudid High Chiefdom has joined the war. Damn, I’m gathering a coalition against me. Hopefully my levies can manage.

January 26

CKII%2019-14.png

And we lose the Content trait. It’s okay, Content isn’t a trait that benefits us as the human player. Even if King Fruela was an AI character, the fact he holds the highest title of the realm, it means the +25 opinion to liege is useless, since he has no liege. Other than that, the small monthly piety gain is no big loss, and then we only benefit from removing the -1 Intrigue the trait carries. Ah well…

January 27

And now Emir Fadil of the Qashid Emirate joins. What, is the Caliph next!? Hopefully not!

CKII%2019-15.png

I also receive this notification. By the way, because of how messy the French borders are, Luxembourg is currently Middle Francia’s capital, because its De Jure one is not under their control. Well, time to go for the high diplomacy option.

February 1

CKII%2019-16.png

Well now! Bah, not that it matters. Who needs the Karlings, anyway… maybe.

February 7

Time to focus back on my plot, and I gift gold to Chlodomer Australdling.

February 16

Count Juan of Soria has recreated the ICP.

February 18

Baron Rodericho of San Pedro de Périx died of cáncer. He had no heirs, so King Fruela inherits the barony. I have a courtier to gran it to, Oveco de Albarracin.

February 23

Chlodomer has joined my plot. I also order the upgrade of Salamanca’s Castle Town.

March 4

CKII%2019-17.png

The Wilayah of Granada is the first to fall, bringing warscore to 8%.

April 22

It seems I was a bit hasty regarding the coalition’s strength. All but the Umayyad have chained their levies, with a combined total of almost 6K men, against my almost 5K. I should be fine… well, we’ll see to that since they’re coming my way.

June 9

CKII%2019-18.png

The Mosque of Jaén is the next, bringing warscore to 17%. In favorable news, another revolt sparked within the Umayyad, in dispute over Mauretania.

July 6

King Radulf of Middle Francia sends a marriage proposal with Princess María. Despite the earlier incident, this will renew the non-aggression pact. I accept.

August 21

CKII%2019-19.png

Next in our possession is the City of Elvira, bringing warscore to 32%.

November 2

More technology points thanks to our Spymaster, which were Economical.

December 4

I receive a notification that Count Pelayo of Nájera seeks the fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Navarra.

December 27

León’s Castle Walls II are finished.

And we soon enter 833AD.

February 7

CKII%2019-20.png

The Wilayah of Baeza is ours, warscore is now 38%.

February 13

I start construction for a Castle Town at Castelo Branco.

February 28

Prince Gonzalo’s wife, Countess Ruothilde of Guines dies from severe injuries. They had no children, and he didn’t inherit his wife’s title. I decide on inviting him back to my court.

March 4

Despite a notification that he refuses, he still came back. Weird. In any case, I arrange for him a new marriage, this time with Thuidigotho Walperthingi, relative of the Duke of… ah, well, I forgot to check which duke exactly. Thuidigotho was at Nassau, and that’s the best I could guess on.

March 7

Once more the event about my Chancellor using a network of contacts triggers. That means 50 more Cultural Points. Nice. As a side note, I decide to release my POW’s, Jeddjiga bint Abjdin, and Bishop Juan. Also, I enact the Town Infrastructure II advance, which if you remember, it increases City Tax and unlocks building tiers.

March 13

The marriage proposal goes through.

April 21

CKII%2019-21.png

And with the City of Guadíx, warscore rises to 54% and the sheikhdom is ours! We still need to take the other two, and unfortunately, the Muslim coalition is still right next door with the higher stack.

LEEEEEEROY JENKINS

May 8

And we engage in battle at Malaga Sheikhdom!

May 22 – June 1

CKII%2019-22.png

They say numbers help, not win, in wars. Good tactics are a reason why, I’d say. Between the commander’s traits and Martial stats. Thankfully it was all neutral terrain so no bonuses or penalties as well. Managing to kill two commanders also helps, naturally.

June 7

CKII%2019-23.png

And it shows, look at the kill ratio! We even captured a third commander. Warscore jumpts to 74%. I opt to ransom the Mayor, action that will grant me 25 gold. And one last thing to do:

CKII%2019-24.png

Increase the tax focus on the Church.

June 11

Mayor Diaco pays his own ransom, and I gain 25 gold.

July 13

Salamanca reaches Heavy Infantry I.

July 16

Another event of my Marshall finding a suitable man to become Commander triggers. Once more the choice is to replace one of my commanders with him, which would anger the would be ex-commander; or just say “Good job” to my Marshall, increasing his opinion, which increases either way, anyway. I opt the latter, just to be on the safe side.

August 2

Salamanca’s Castle Town II is done.

August 6

High Chief Masmud II has died of Great Pox, succeeded by his son, Misibsen. Unfortunately, that doesn’t remove them from the war. I think the latest patch included something about “inheriting” wars no longer being obligatory, but I think it only applies for the aggressor.

August 21

I spot the coalition forces coming back for another battle. In reduced numbers, since it looks some of the levies dropped out.

August 26

And battle breaks again at Malaga. I also receive a notification my realm has a courtier with claims on the Masmudid High Chiefdom. Hmm…

September 22

CKII%2019-25.png

Another victory! And warscore is now 83%.

October 17

I finally see where Andalusia’s forces have gone, they’ve started to liberate Granada.

December 1

The war between Middle Francia and East Francia has ended. Middle Francia won and has annexed the latter. Well, that reduces the bordergore over there, but it still looks like a mess.

The month passes by without much incident, and we enter 834AD.

January 11

The rest of the coalition reinforces at Granada. All of them, though even their combined chained stack has lower numbers than mine. Hah.

February 7

Another event of a Jew arriving at my court. Levi of Telengit, Sephardi.

February 18

CKII%2019-26.png

The Wilayah of Malaga is ours, bringing warscore to 91%. I still need to watch out on the Muslim Coalition taking away warscore, but I think we can manage one more siege and could grant enough warscore.

April 2

CKII%2019-27.png

And thankfully, the Mosque of Antequera brings it to 100%, and we end the war!

CKII%2019-28.png

Who said we had to take Granada last? And the Emirate is no more. Though now my realm is divided. Ah well, not a big deal. What is a big deal being that a Camp Fever epidemic broke out precisely at Granada the day before. And thus, by taking over, I now have Camp Fever in my realm. Hahaha, just my luck.

Another war has come and gone. What will happen next? Find out next time!

4 hours ago, blah the Prussian said:

Those borders are an abomination. An Islamic Spain is superior to a Spain riddled with enclaves!

Could be worse. Could be like France. If the Karlings had the chance to have more sons before they bite it, their borders would be more of a disaster than they already are.

And this is why, kids, you must avoid Gavelkind Succesion.

Chapter XX – Heartbreak

April 2, 834AD – April 26, 837AD

Spoiler

Standard procedure. Give away the titles and extra demesne. For Granada, I grant it to García Suniefredez, one of the illegitimate sons of Sunifriedo, if you remember. Well, nothing says they can’t become the founders of their own lineages. Almeria goes to Luivericho de León, just a courtier. And Malaga goes to Garҫi, another courtier.

CKII%2020-1.png

The previous three counties are De Jure Duchy of Granada. The title was not created, so I’m the one to form it. Granada is De Jure capital, so García receives the Duchy title.

Right now, my coffers are a bit on the low side (relatively speaking, since they’re at a little above 600 gold), so I enact the War Chest ambition. Now, we begin.

April 4

Emir Ghalib II of Nadirid Emirate creates a Muslim Defensive Pact against me. Smart move, but will any join before my Threat level descends enough?

May 1

Time for another summer fair!

May 18

CKII%2020-2.png

As I mentioned with the last fair, what a sense of humor.

June 7

Once more the Marshall catches peddlers selling stolen goods. Between the 25% chance of gaining Cruel or gain just 5 gold, I went with the latter again.

June 19

Prince Gómez, the younger of Fruela’s children, has turn 12. With the traits Idolizer, Fussy, and Timid, I assign him Learning Education. I also betroth him with Terèsa Louping, daughter of Duke Waifar II of Aquitaine.

June 26

The betrothal is accepted, and an event triggers that increases the relation between King Fruela and Prince Johan. Considering Prince Johan is the only sibling left, it does sound like a nice thing to happen.

June 27

CKII%2020-3.png

Perform “The Crusader Kings”, eh. Top option increases Count Lope’s opinion, while the bottom one is for Queen Uen. So, I go for the middle option, as the +1 to Learning is permanent.

June 30

The Summer Fair is over.

July 19

Valladolid reaches Heavy Infantry I.

July 24

Castelo Branco’s Castle Town II is ready.

July 25

Count Adelfonso of Viscaya seeks to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Navarra.

July 30

Uen has come down with the flu, calling forth the Court Physician to deal with that.

August 26

Once more a Benedictine Order event about a member asking about an interest in roses triggers. As before, I chose the option to go visit his garden.

September 13

As before, another event triggers with the order member asking to help. As before, I choose not to, resulting in just an opinion increase from the man.

October 2

Prince Gonzalo now has a daughter, Marina Gonzalez. I assign her the Etiquette focus.

October 7

Count Mauregato of Astorga seeks to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Asturias.

November 8

My coffers finally reach 700 gold, fulfilling the War Chest ambition. Now I select the Realm Prosper one. Though, again, unlikely it will get fulfilled, considering our situation. Also, I upgrade León’s Militia Training Grounds, to have more Light Infantry and Archers.

November 11

My Threat level has descended to the point the Muslim Defensive Pact against me has disbanded.

CKII%2020-4.png

After what happened in Ireland, did I learned my lesson about granting vassalage to a courtier I’m helping press their claims outside my realm? … nope! So, time go through my slight blunder here.

Despite being a “High Chiefdom”, Masmumid only has a single province. Since it’s not a Holy War, no one can come to its defense unless they had an actual alliance. So, only me own levies should suffice.

December 14

Duke García of Granada died of Camp Fever. Both the Duchy and County are transferred to me, since the Duke had no heirs. To be fair, he was only three years old. So, I grant them to a courtier, Sancho. In other news, the ICP disbands.

Nothing for the rest of the year, we move into 835AD.

February 26

CKII%2020-5.png

Oh, King Fruela is developing symptom traits? That’s not good.

March 1

And now the Court Physician will begin the treatment.

March 2

Beatriz de Cantabria died from disagreement with a meal (she had the Food Poisoning sickness trait). That’s the second of King Fruela’s children who has died.

March 4

CKII%2020-6.png

Ah, yeah, not sure how that can be effective, but the game thinks it does. Then again, it is the least effective of the “treatment went well” outcomes.

March 5

We attack the enemy at Infa.

March 7

Bishop Manrique joins the College of Cardinals.

March 23

CKII%2020-7.png

Uh oh, this is bad.

April 5

CKII%2020-8.png

Our first, and likely to be only battle against these guys. It won’t be a long war. Warscore rises to 23%.

April 6

The event about the Pope leading a less than stellar lifestyle triggers. Geez, we already must deal with an anti-Pope undermining the religious authority, last we need is the actual Pope undermining it as well.

April 7

Time for the Court Physician to begin treatment, again.

April 10

CKII%2020-9.png

Okay, now this one does little to nothing.

April 12

CKII%2020-10.png

Maybe I should’ve enacted the decision to go into seclusion…

April 13

Raiders have arrived at Santiago.

April 14

Court Physician tries to go for third time’s the charm.

April 17

CKII%2020-11.png

Well, that’s much better. In other good news, the Steward has increased infrastructure and people productivity at Zamora.

May 11

More raiders, this time at Porto.

May 22

CKII%2020-12.png

Too late. Now, I am going to consider the chosen outcome was normal illness, since I couldn’t find anything that could tell me otherwise.

May 25

CKII%2020-13.png

Well, it goes like this. Bottom option removes the Brave trait, in addition of not receiving treatment. Pass. Top option is only available because we have the Brave trait, for a high-risk high-reward probability. Middle option is the safe route. As it is, I don’t know how the Court Physician’s competency is determined, so yeah, I’ll just play it safe.

May 28

CKII%2020-14.png

Do I question it? Ah, who knows, it worked, and that’s what matters…

June 7

King Creat II of France has declared an Antipapal War on King Radulf of East Francia. Maybe he’ll be more successful in removing the antipope than Lombardy.

June 18

I receive a notification that Facalo de Cantrabia seeks to kill Count Mauregato of Astorga.

July 24

CKII%2020-15.png

Chiefdoms operate on slightly different structures than a Kingdom or Republic. In this case, “Tribes”, which I suppose it’s more accurate to say the Tribal Camp, are the capital holdings, a unique “construction” for them. If they ever adopt a different system from Tribalism, it becomes either a Castle or City, depending if they go Feudal or something else. So, we have captured the… tribe, I guess. Warscore jumps to 56%.

July 28

My vassals have entered battle with the raiders in Santiago. It’s the nice thing about vassals. They’ll pull their own weight so you don’t need to do everything. Still, it’s best to keep an eye on them, anyway.

August 28

And they’ve fought them off. Also, I take note the army that fought them were from Viscaya. Huh, apparently, Santiago at some point switched lieges from the Duchy of Galicia to the Duchy of Navarra. Weird, I never noticed. I may need to rectify that… but that will be for later.

It also comes to my attention the Masmudid forces had arrived into Iberia to siege my counties… except they don’t have enough men for that, so they’re just idling at Granada.

August 29

CKII%2020-16.png

From my understanding, tribal societies can still build temples, which confirms it here, as Rabat houses a Mosque. Warscore has jumped to 100%, as it’s the only building other than the main tribal camp. As a bonus, we captured the wife and children of the Wâli.

In any case, the war is over.

CKII%2020-17.png

As I mentioned above, I should’ve made the guy a vassal, so he would remain so, and the kingdom would gain a foothold in North Africa. Sadly, like with the Irish case, I forgot to ensure I wouldn’t make the same mistake again. Oh well, life moves on.

November 7

I receive notification that Baron Manrique of Castrobarte wants to kill Baroness Fronilde… of Castrobarte? He wants to kill his wife? Interesting…

November 17

A new feature from v2.7, which I’m quite thankful for, is that you can now make general decisions regarding prisoners. Mass release? Yes. Mass ransom? Yup. Mass… execution? You bet. In any case, it seems all four POW’s are available for ransom, so I select the option for mass ransom. From my understanding, this doesn’t guarantee everybody will, but it can save up time. In any case, the total of all four is up to 52 gold.

November 24

Well, how unfortunate, only one was ransomed. Aaquila bint Sammer, the… ah, she was the one not part of the Wâli’s family. I forgot who exactly now at this point, sorry. As a side note, I order to upgrade Palencia’s Militia Training Grounds.

December 9

My plot is ready to begin. Another use of the poisoned wine trick. As well, I try the mass ransom option again.

December 20

However, this time no one was ransomed. Well now, be that way. I suppose you may not mind then if your kids… are no longer your culture and religion if you ever see them again.

And we soon enter 836AD.

January 1

Another peasant revolt rises with the Umayyad.

January 5

CKII%2020-18.png

Drat! Fortunately, we can just try again.

February 28

Raiders have arrived at Navarra.

March 18

My Marshall improves another commander, Uri of Umm Ruwaba.

April 1

As it so happens, Sultan Ali conquers the Masmudid High Chiefdom. Bummer, after what we did…

April 17

León’s Militia Training Grounds II are finished.

May 1

Time for another summer fair.

May 18

The event of the jester happens. A small 5 prestige gain, but better than nothing.

June 27

And now the one about the performers. This time only the options to please a vassal or please the wife are present. I go for the latter.

June 30

The summer fair is over.

July 8

The time has come to fulfill the betrothal between Pelagio and Princess Leontia. Because different dynasty ruling Byzantium, means chance to renew valid claims to the Byzantine throne, haha. Marriage happens on July 17.

August 16

Emir Fadl of Qashid Emirate declares war on Andalusia to conquer Mértola. Interesting…

August 25

My Marshall improves the competence of Commander Mayor Gómez of Burgos.

September 9

I receive notification that Erramun d’Asturias wants to kill Diaco Erwigiana.

September 25

And another, this time about Count Luivericho of Almeria seeks to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Granada.

October 5

CKII%2020-19.png

Uh oh, the Infirm trait. Has the countdown started?

October 14

And another notification, this time of Berengária seeking to kill Duchess Facalo of Galicia.

October 22

I order to upgrade León’s Barracks.

October 26

Emir Ghalib II of Nadirid Emirate declares war on the Umayyad Revolt in Iberia to conquer La Mancha. I don’t see that revolt lasting now, it might surrender to avoid a two-front war.

November 4

The long conflict between the Umayyad and Andalusia’s Aslamid Emirate over Qulumriyah is over. The Umayyad won, avoiding losing the sheikhdom.

November 15

Queen Uen has died. A natural death, but not less tragic nonetheless. Mayor Alonso of Villablino is appointed as the new Designated Regent.

December 5

CKII%2020-20.png

Bottom option is a 50% chance to gain Depressed. The top option does not say what could happen… but it’s likely to not end worse, does it?

December 12

CKII%2020-21.png

Well, that went well.

But don’t think 837AD will remain so.

January 18

CKII%2020-22.png

This isn’t turning good. Top option is a 90% chance to gain Lustful, and 10% for Incapable. On hindsight, that wouldn’t have been a bad gamble against a sure gain on Depressed. But well, I chose the bottom one.

February 25

Duke Diego of Asturias died in an accident. Without the quotes. His succeeded by his son, also named Diego.

March 26

León has prospered enough to obtain the tier II, Flourishing.

CKII%2020-23.png

Unfortunately, this also happened. Top option is a guaranteed gain of the Maimed trait, as well as Severely Injured. Bottom one is a 70% chance for Wounded, and a -25 opinion hit towards the one responsible. Uh, don’t know what “spirits” is in this context, but considering the -25, it’s nothing pleasant. Anyway, I chose middle one for the lowest chance for this to end badly, just 60% for Wounded, and the King’s opinion on the guy to rise by 15.

April 26

CKII%2020-24.png

But, at the end of the day, it was the Camp Fever that did him in. As such, Prince García, the third eldest son of Fruela, is the new King. None of King Fruela’s sons inherit claim on the Byzantine Empire, since their mother’s dynasty is no longer the ruling house there, so the claim only extended to King Fruela’s generation. Also, Prince Johan, now the last child of King Aurelio still alive, stopped being the Marshall, for some reason. Lastly, the new heir defaulted to García’s younger brother, Gonzalo.

Another King has died. King Fruela II, largely thanks to having held the title for longer, he accomplished more in life than his father, King Aurelio. Nonetheless, the job is not yet done. The Muslims still hold a little under half of Iberia, but they’re fractured, and filled with in-fighting. What will the new King do to distinguish himself from his father and grandfather? Only time will tell…

A new page has turned, but the book still has much content to go through left. Until next time.

Chapter XXI – Unfinished Business

April 26, 837AD – March 12, 841AD

Spoiler

Well, King Gracía begins his reign. Before we go in-detail with him, we must first fill out the Council positions that opened with King Fruela’s passing. For Chancellor, I appoint Duke João of Galicia, and Marshall, it’s Mayor Fernando de Béjar. And they’ll do the usual jobs of Performing Statecraft and Organizing the Army. Now, let’s look at King García.

CKII%2021-1.png

Unlike his father and grandfather before him, King García is a Stewardship inclined character. The two traits with description correspond to the chest icons, since they’re new to show. That, plus with the Business focus, you can see he has a +30 opinion from Mayors, which is good, as it guarantees there’s little that can happen to drop them to the negative values. There’s bound to be different stuff for us with a Stewardship inclined character, so we’ll see to that when it happens.

Now, on to business. I select the decision to call for a Court Physician, since it seems our previous one has left. Also, I upgrade Zamora and Valladolid’s Militia Training Grounds, for more soldiers. Next, I appoint García’s first son, García Jr, as the heir. For the record, Duke Diego II of Asturias has yet to remove his support for Prince Gonzalo to take the throne. It’s the nature of the Elective procedure. I can’t change it yet to something else. Something else I’d prefer, to be more exact.

Now, let’s go into the Orders. Naturally, King Fruela’s death means the Benedictine Order has a new Conversus, Bishop Wigerich of Hirsam. King García himself seems to not have joined one, so we can make him do so now. I didn’t mention this, but other Orders sprung up shortly after installing the DLC, the Benedictine Order was the only one on the list back then because… uh, not exactly why. Maybe since it was to create it, that was the only one King Fruela could do. Who knows.

In any case, the ones available for us (after all, don’t expect for all Orders to apply for any character, and therefor to be shown at all), other than the Benedictine Order, are:

  • The Hermetic Society, for a less religiously inclined and more FOR SCIENCE approach to things (at least at best I understand the short description and what I’ve searched up).
  • The Dominican Order… and yes, this can lead up to…

tumblr_n12kx1MUXN1s49t6ko1_250.gif

  • Lucifer’s Own, for all your “Hail Satan” needs. Yes, this is a thing the DLC added. The chance to become an active devil worshipper. Unlike the other three, this one’s considered a secret society which means membership is invite only. One must first express interest in the society, and the option is only available if you have one of the Seven Deadly Sins as a trait. Best I understood, anyway. King García does have the sixth sin, but I’m not going down this path.

CKII%2021-2.png

And now having to pay for it, I join the Benedictine Order. We’ll have to start from the bottom of the ladder as just one more Donatus. But that’s a good chance as any to show what more being an Order member brings.

But we’re still not done before unpausing the game. The King lacks an ambition, and we got for War Chest to quickly put that out of the way. I also must reappoint León to be the Crown Focus. Now, I need to check up on the King’s children. We already saw about García Jr, but since I had given King García actual lands to lord over, I didn’t got notification or checked on any further offspring. So, let’s go over them:

  • The second child, Gómez. Already assigned the Humility focus.
  • Third child, Fronilda. I assign her the Thrift focus.
  • Twins Mayor and Sancha. Ironically, they don’t share the same portrait. Respectively, I assign them the Etiquette and Duty focuses.

Next order of business is to start another plot. And what better one than to seek our sights on the Lombard throne? Yes, Desiderius II is our target now. I’ve given up on Rosello for now. For now. And finally, one last thing to do…

CKII%2021-3.png

You may have escaped the fate of your brethren by being under a different Sultan, but you WILL share the same fate. And that time has come.

May 4

Palencia’s Militia Training Grounds II are done. In other news, Count Sunifriedo has joined the ICP.

May 7

CKII%2021-4.png

Our new Court Physician, who can also double as Court Eunuch. Though I didn’t grant him that title right away, admittedly.

May 8

My levies begin to arrive at Qulumriyah.

May 10

Duke Diego II establishes a faction to take the throne.

May 28

And then decides to favor himself for it, instead of favoring Prince Gonzalo.

June 9

The event chain for an Order member asking advice for poetry triggers again. I comply.

June 16

CKII%2021-5.png

Ah, our first mission as a Donatus. These are how you can go up the ranks, obtaining Devotion by fulfilling missions. Devotion is also gained monthly, but these extra boosts are welcomed.

CKII%2021-6.png

Enacted through a decision, this event chain is not quite the same going into hiding, but nevertheless King García won’t be doing stuff like leading troops into war while this happens. Well, let’s see how it goes…

June 18

The last of my men arrive at Qulumriyah.

July 7

Continuing the poetry event chain, I once more chose the option to suggest safeguarding his progress.

July 9

One of my POWs, Tfit, becomes Castilian.

July 27

And the poetry event chain ends, establishing friendship with the guy.

August 5

CKII%2021-7.png

A new advance progress to explain. As you can see, it mostly gives boosts to the passive monthly gains in Piety and Prestige. Meanwhile, the decrease to Short Reign Years most likely refers to how much must pass before a character is considered as having a long reign. From what I can tell.

August 14

CKII%2021-8.png

Well, seems we’re off to a good start.

October 16

Duke Sancho of Granada has declared war on Count Luivericho of Almeria to revoke his title. In other news, the ICP has disbanded.

October 18

CKII%2021-9.png

And now this shows up. Bottom option means paying around 130 gold, with a 40% to get rid of the vice, and 60% to fail. The top option, as you can see, is more about moderation. I go for that one, feels like the odds could be more favorable there.

October 21

CKII%2021-10.png

And it seems things worked out. Probably could’ve been better have chosen the bottom option in the previous event and be lucky with that 40%, but oh well…

November 16

Count Sunifriedo has reestablished the ICP.

December 3

CKII%2021-11.png

More progress done.

December 16

I get a notification that Count Juan of Soria seeks to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Castile. Now that won’t do. I’ll ask him to drop it. He accepts on December 30.

And now, we soon enter 838AD…

January 14

Count Juan of Soria joins the ICP.

January 19

And now I get a notification that Calatayud’s Court Chaplain, Agila Gundemáriz, seeks to kill Jimena Díaz. Wait, who? Beats me, I forgot to check.

January 25

Another event about making progress with the Order mission. It’s the same one as the first one that triggered, so there’s no need to put another image here.

February 3

And now I get one about Alto Aragón’s Spymaster, Brunisenda de Castela, seeking to kill Winidilda. Now, I’m sure it’s the same Winidilda who sired a few illegitimate children.

February 7

Apparently, Toledo had a bandit trouble. Had, because a notification showed up that King García has captured and executed them. Apparently, because of his Martial skill. I’m sure having a county plagued with bandits is a negative modifier for the area. Well, after this it’s bound to be gone now.

February 8

CKII%2021-12.png

Finally, our first capture, the capital Wilayah. Warscore rises to 6%.

February 10

Our Marshall has trained another Commander, Baron Alonso of Ilescas. He even gained the Flanker trait, good to make him the leader of a, well, flank.

February 11

Duke Sancho of Granada has joined the ICP.

February 15

More technology points arrive from my Spymaster, which were Economic.

February 25

Sultan Ali won his war against the Qashid Emirate, preventing them from taking Mértola.

March 4

Duke Artau of Aragon has joined the ICP.

March 9

Duke João of Galicia has joined the ICP. Huh, too many are joining it. This could be bad.

CKII%2021-13.png

On the flipside, mission accomplished.

March 18

I receive the event about a warrior at the gates, wanting to join my court. I accept. This guy, Pelayo, has an excellent Martial stat. He will make a good Commander.

March 21

León’s Barracks II are finished.

April 7

Tfit completes her integration by converting to Catholicism.

April 10

CKII%2021-14.png

The City of Aveiro is next, bringing warscore to 19%. Also, to deal with so many people joining the ICP, I gift gold to Count Sunifriedo, Count Juan, and Duke Sancho.

April 23

Sultan Ali has joined the war. As it is, they’re still so much in-fighting with the Iberian Muslims that I’m not really that worried. On the other hand, The Sultans are not at war with each other now, so they might have the chance to chain levies.

May 7

I get a notification that Count Álvaro of Empuries seeks to make a claim on the Duchy of Barcelona. And then Duke Diego II of Asturias joins the ICP.

June 11

CKII%2021-15.png

And with the Mosque of Viseu, the sheikhdom is fully ours and warscore goes to 25%. Now it will slowly tick in our favor. However, it’s a long road between 25 and 100 to rely on that alone. So, I send my levy to siege another area.

June 15

Prince Gómez Froilaz (King García’s brother) is finally of age, gaining the Mastermind Theologian trait.

June 22

And then Prince García Jr turns 12. With the Timid, Curious, and Indolent traits, I assign him Learning education.

July 9

Duke Sancho left the ICP.

July 23

The enemy has taken that I left Qulumriyah to start to liberate it. I promptly move my levy back. We engage them on August 11.

August 19

In an interesting turn of events, the Umayyad lost Cebta and Tangier to a Norse group. I think it was raiders in a conquest mindset, or something. In any case, the Petty Kingdom of Tangier has formed, with King Ofeig, the guy to took over. I don’t expect it to last, to be honest.

August 26

Raiders arrived at Navarra.

August 28

CKII%2021-16.png

The battle has been won, warscore is now 33%, which wasn’t a big gain. Then again, I didn’t fight that many soldiers. Time to see if I can siege elsewhere…

September 11

Duke Sancho died of severe stress. His daughter, María, succeeds him. She does not inherit her father’s war to revoke Almeria, so the war itself just ends.

September 13

I enact Siege Equipment II for León.

September 14

The remainder older brother of King García, Count Gutierre of Menorca, died clutching at his heart. So much for trying to have obtained the Balearic. Although our dynasty itself is ruling even if the land itself are part of the Byzantine Empire so… mission half-accomplished?

September 18

Bishop Juan of Silos died a natural death, leaving me with no Court Chaplain. I appoint Bishop Pelayo of Benavente to replace him, and send him to Proselyte in Molina.

September 19

I receive a notification that the Chief of Tangier plans to invade me. Huh. Well, time to explain this. Sometimes, you can get notifications that someone will attack you. Usually, you get a 2-year warning in advance, so you can do stuff like plotting to kill the guy. Even if the character planning to invade is a landless courtier or something, they will receive a big soldier stack when enacting their invasion, so don’t think they can be pushovers because they’re commoners or landless lords.

September 27

Countess Sancha of Asturias de Santillana joins the ICP.

October 5

Valladolid and Zamora’s Militia Training Grounds II are done. In addition, Pelagio de Cantabria, King García’s cousin (and son of Prince Johan), is now a father. To a girl, Leontia, who I assign Etiquette education.

October 8

To deal with that guy, King Ofeig, wanting to invade, I start a plot to kill him. There’s only one person available on the list of possible collaborators, and despite gifting him gold, he didn’t budge. Vidhyadharabhanja, say that three times fast, who is King Ofeig’s Steward.

November 4

I see enemy levies moving to Qulumriyah again. I move my levy back, again. They start to liberate it on November 6.

November 9

CKII%2021-17.png

The bottom option is a 15% chance to gain Humble, but it also grants a -5 Opinion from ALL dynasty members, and lasts for 10 years. If you ask me, that’s too much, even if the loss isn’t much. As such, I prefer to pay the gold for the prestige and the chance to gain Proud. But King García was not granted the trait.

November 25

The time has come to call forth my vassal levies, since the enemy has now enough men that I need to match as well in numbers.

December 3

My Chancellor has improved our relations with Duke Diego II.

December 18

Duke Mauregato of Navarra has joined the ICP. I gift both him and Countess Sancha gold.

December 23

And as a very welcomed help, my Chancellor now improves relations with Countess Sancha.

December 26

King García’s wife, Monnia, is pregnant once more.

And we soon enter 839AD.

January 8

Duke Diego II has disbanded his faction for the throne.

January 14

And then Countess Sancha leaves the ICP.

January 16

Another of the POWs, Laweye, converts to Catholicism.

January 19

Raiders are assaulting Viscaya once more.

January 23

Checking, I noticed someone has joined my plot. Rafiqa, one of King Ofeig’s concubines. In other news, my levies, which I have placed in Castelo Branco, enough have moved that I now send them over to Qulumriyah. The rest will have to come over in due time.

January 25

Emir Ghalib II of Nadirid Emirate has joined the war.

February 3

And we attack the enemy coalition at Qulumriyah.

March 2

Duke Mauregato of Navarra has declared war on Count Adelfonso of Viscaya to revoke his title.

March 6

CKII%2021-18.png

Victory! Warscore rises to 57%, a much higher rise from last battle. Moving my levies back east.

March 13

King Ofeig died of Camp Fever. Well, his planned invasion is no more.

March 31

A different enemy stack has started to siege Toledo.

April 8

They, however, promptly retreat as I move my full might towards them. I still go on to chase them.

April 24

Duke João of Galicia has declared war on Duke Mauregato, to reclaim Santiago. A de jure war, basically.

May 7

Another “kid reads letters” event, this time with Tfit. You know the drill.

May 14

Arriving at La Mancha, I decide to siege the place than continue the pursuit.

July 10

Raiders arrived at Malaga.

July 27

King García has a new daughter, Elvira Garcés. I assign her the Pride focus. Also, since I forgot to do this when King Ofeig died, I now restart my plot to kill King Desiderius II.

August 16

I receive another Order mission. Same as the last, Secluded Penance. Which, we begin anew.

October 11

CKII%2021-19.png

A different course of events, it seems. Top option is a 42%-57% (just 99%?) success-failure ratio, compared to asking for help’s 65%-35%. I prefer those odds, so asking for help, it is!

October 13

Now that the option is available, I propose to arrange marriage between Prince Gómez and Terèsa Louping.

October 14

CKII%2021-20.png

Well, that went well.

October 18

The marriage proposal is accepted.

November 16

Now I start to upgrade León’s Stables, to have more Light Cavalry.

November 22

Once more the event about charity. As with before, I go for the option about moderation, with the same 65%-35% ratio of succeeding or not. Thankfully, it was a success.

And soon we enter 840AD…

January 11

The kid, Laweye, assimilates to Castillian.

January 26

Another event about penance, but it’s the standard one of making progress.

February 1

Raiders arrived at Asturias de Santinalla. More arrived at Asturias de Oviedo in February 12.

February 23

Another fight with the enemy, at La Mancha.

February 26

Our Chancellor has improved our relations with Duke João of Galicia. The amusing thing here is that he is Duke João. Yeah… that happens.

March 22

Our Court Chaplain informs his success in converting Molina to Catholicism. Now, I send him to Proselyte in Toledo.

March 29

CKII%2021-21.png

A new event. Bottom option is a 55%-45% ratio for García Jr to accept, or not. Top option is a 50-50 split for things to go well or not. I go for the middle option, which as you can see, it has no bad outcome. Though, well, it would’ve been great if the 20% outcome had happened.

April 1

CKII%2021-22.png

We won, even captured an Emir. Warscore jumps to 83%. We promptly give chase.

April 12

I promptly offer ransom for the captured Emir, which he’s paying himself. It’s for 145 gold, fitting for someone of his status.

April 27

The Emir is released, and we fulfill the War Chest ambition.

May 1

We engage the enemy again in Mursiya. It also comes to my attention that Andalusia has conquered the Petty Kingdom of Tangier.

May 14

CKII%2021-23.png

Victory, again. Warscore only jumped to 87%. Getting there, but I think the war has lasted too much for just acquiring one area.

May 29

Another “Making progress on Order mission” event. Also, I’ve gathered enough Devotion to request ranking up, into an Oblatus. Just having the Devotion amount required isn’t enough, there’s also a time requirement to fulfill when ranking up. Just three years.

June 27

CKII%2021-24.png

And we become an Oblatus. As you can see, an Oblatus gains the ability to take a Vow of Celibacy. It’s likely this is the case for a few other religious Orders, like the Dominicans. But well, this is just but one step up the ladder.

July 13

More progress done in the Order mission.

August 9

My Marshall has trained another Commander. Duke Rodrigo of Barcelona, he even gains the Direct Leader trait.

September 9

And mission accomplished, King García gains 200 more Devotion.

September 12

Time to take on another ambition, this time for Groom and Heir. It’s kinda cheating since García Jr is close to coming of age already… but well, I prefer the term “Pragmatic”.

September 24

The enemy coalition has arrived at Qulumriyah. I’m already half-way through a siege, and warscore is already in the 90’s thanks to the War Goal, so I’ll see first if I can afford it.

December 14

Countess Sancha has joined the ICP.

December 21

The Antipapal War over in the Francias is over. The Anti-Pope is no more, leaving just the one true Papacy. Finally, the Moral Authority can rise back to 100%.

December 30

CKII%2021-25.png

We got the Wilayah, but well, turns out, this siege didn’t give us any warscore. On the flip side, we did catch about 13 POW’s. Also, warscore is at 96% and keeps climbing. At this rate, I don’t think the forces at Qulumriyah will stop it from reaching 100% on its own.

Well, time to see who I can ransom, and change all the applicable kids’ focuses to Heritage. And thus, we soon enter 841AD.

January 1

Despite trying the option to do it with all, only one ransom was enacted. Abdallah ibn Talib, Emir Ghalib II’s brother. For just 10 gold, imagine that. Next one to ransom is Princess Rashida, sister of Umayyad Sultan Murad, and the wife of Abdallah. She gets ransomed on January 11.

January 15

Time to upgrade Palencia and Zamora’s Barracks.

February 15

Culture Technological Points, thanks to our Spymaster.

February 28

Duke Diego II has recreated his faction for the throne.

March 12

CKII%2021-26.png

The City of Cartagena falls… but no warscore gain either. I’m guessing it’s because they’re only a supporter, and not the main realm I’m at war with. Anyway, the warscore has made it to 100% on its own, so the spoils from the siege are just a small bonus before ending this.

CKII%2021-27.png

And the war is over. Qulumriyah gets renamed to Coimbra, and we finally have the entirety of De Jure Portucale. And get to even out the border in that area.

And the new King is starting to follow the steps of his predecessors. How much farther will he go? Find out in the future updates. Until next time.

But on a serious note from the top of the post, I was going faster early in the LP. It's just that with all the other stuff I have on my plate, and how taxing this can be, I'd rather go slow and steady than tire me out of doing this. I'd rather not have this end like my Victoria II LP. I figured once a week would be that steady pace. As long as I can cover enough in-game years per update... hmm, yeah, might still take quite a while.

Wait, there is a kid named Tfit?! Sounds like someone let their cat walk over the keyboard.

It's alright to post as much or as little as you can. Unfortunately, real life exists. Even though I would of course love it there were more. <3 It's fun to read this LP; especially these little family events add some cute moments.

I'd comment on the contrary, but if I'm to do what I plan to do... eh.... Anyway...

Say what you want to say about this but you've been at it for 3 months and you're not even past the first 100 years. At the rate that it's going, this lp will take well over a year to complete.

Chapter XXII – Fraticelli Rising

March 12, 841AD – September 4, 843AD

Spoiler

I’d say, an advantage of having more than one enemy in Iberia means I don’t have to wait for the 10 years of truce to end, or someone to die, to start another war. Will we start another one so soon? Let’s find out…

But first, time to see about the people still in the ICP. So, I gift gold to Duke Diego II of Asturias and Duke João of Galicia. Also, since García Jr is over 12, I can enact the decision to “Introduce Heir to the Realm”. If you remember, it starts an event chain where the heir can either improve or worse opinions with a few vassals.

So, we’re first going over how that goes for him.

March 24

CKII%2022-1.png

I’m always wary when owning favors to people. Since if they do decide to follow up on that, it’s almost always unescapable without having to suffer the consequences. But well, for the eventual character to control, I’d say it’s worth it to give him as much advantages and gains as possible.

March 27

Oh, this is interesting. Sultan Murad has declared war on Sultan Ali. He plans to reclaim Andalusia. Perfect. If they’re busy fighting each other, I can try to swoop in like a vulture and swipe some more land, from either or one of the independent Emirates.

March 28

Queen Monnia becomes pregnant once more.

April 2

CKII%2022-2.png

Well, that’ nice, but it would’ve been better if it was with a Count or Duke.

April 7

CKII%2022-3.png

Wait, what, where is this coming from? Nuts, not good gaining the Stressed trait.

April 11

León’s Stables II are finished.

April 13

CKII%2022-4.png

And this isn’t good.

April 16

One of the new POW kids, Salma, converts to Catholicism.

April 18

Raiders arrived at Asturias de Santillana.

April 24

CKII%2022-5.png

The irony here is that Guillén is the son of Baron Alonso. You know, the one who García Jr got fine with three weeks ago? Yeah.

May 3

When I took it, Coimbra was in the middle of upgrading its Barracks. They got finished today. Also, I start another Summer Fair.

May 9

Duke João of Galicia has left the ICP.

May 10

CKII%2022-6.png

Between paying the 200 gold to keep the modifier, and losing both the modifier and 25 prestige, I’d rather pay. It’s in my interest to keep that Trade Route, especially if it’s in Toledo, considering… well, you’ll see eventually.

May 11

More raiders arrive, at Asturias de Oviedo.

May 17

For this fair, we get the event of the monkey trainer whose monkeys rebel. I go for the option to pay him and be done with it.

May 18

Duke Mauregato of Navarra joins the ICP.

June 10

García Jr’s introductions continue, but it’s another disastrous outcome with Bishop Gonzalo of Orgaz. Hmm, that’s the second Bishop…

June 17

The raiders at Oviedo have left.

June 18

On better news, García Jr gets the good outcome with Mayor Juan of Madrid.

June 24

CKII%2022-7.png

Well, it could’ve been worse. 2-2 for getting well/bad with vassals.

July 2

The Summer Fair ends.

July 8

Castelo Branco gains Heavy Infantry I.

July 11

While Astorga gains Cavalry I.

July 14

My retinue finally reaches the north of the peninsula to fight the raiders at Santillana.

July 17

Salamanca obtains Military Organization I.

July 22

Apparently one of my POWs was pregnant, for now I get the notification that he was imprisoned (it automatically happens for any child born from POWs… yeah). Abdul ibn Agellid. Unfortunately, I didn’t take note to who exactly he’s related to.

August 14

Countess Sancha leaves the ICP.

August 18

So does Duke Mauregato.

August 19

CKII%2022-8.png

And this shows pikemen are the superior infantry.

CKII%2022-9.png

Well, I did say we would take advantage the Sultanates are at each other’s throats. So, off I go, calling forth my personal levies, and moving them southeast towards the Nadirid lands.

September 17

Because the Nadirid have over 1.6K men, I first place my own levies at La Mancha (neutral land due to the Umayyad holding it) to first let my own men to gather first. It’d be crazy heading straight into Nadirid land right away. In other news, Duke João has rejoined the ICP.

October 9

CKII%2022-10.png

This is either a flavor event, or it signals things to come. Either way, by itself, it changes nothing gameplay wise.

October 18

CKII%2022-11.png

Our next mission, and variety for a change, now we must donate to charity.

October 24

My combined levy finally begins to siege the Nadirid, starting with Almansa.

October 27

The newest daughter of King García, Estefanía Garcés, is born. I assign her Pride education.

October 29

Finally, I make the decision to Donate to Charity.

CKII%2022-12.png

Yeah, it’s not really that hard of a mission to accomplish. Specially if you can already make over 20 gold per month.

November 13

CKII%2022-13.png

Remember this event? Well, different person to attempt to make friends with, and this time I go for the Stewardship option, because we can never get enough. Fortunately, 75% is high enough, we gain the modifier.

November 27

Emir Ghalib II calls for help to Emir Fadil of Qashid Emirate, and he complies.

December 10

CKII%2022-14.png

Both options make them close friends, but the top one grants 25 piety and a temporal modifier that grands +1 to Learning. I went with the bottom one, since its two thirds of something good happening, and after checking King García’s stats, it seems he got rid of the Stressed trait, so that’s good.

The rest of the year passes by and we enter 842AD.

January 5

Raiders arrive at Santiago. At the same time, I get a notification that Count Froila of Urgell plans to fabricate a claim on the Duchy of Barcelona.

January 9

Duke João leaves the ICP.

February 1

I get a notification that Duke Rodrigo of Barcelona demanded Count Nunno of Tarragona to convert to Fraticelli. Wait… what!?

February 15

And now he has demanded Count Alvaro of Empuries to do the same! Ah, treason! Heresy! This won’t go unpunished!

February 26

In better news, our Court Chaplain has converted Toledo to Catholicism. Alright, change of plans, now you go and Proselyte those guys back to Catholicism! Even though I’m sending him to Barcelona, the job carries to the whole Duchy, mostly since it’s all under one title, the Duke’s. This could take a while, though.

March 18

It only took me now to notice, but someone is trying to take over the Qashid Emirate. It’s another of those landless/independent/raiders raising an army and trying to conquer someplace cases. Well, that will distract them. Not just that, but are also facing a Decadence Revolt.

March 19

The kid, Salma, assimilates to Castilian. In other news, the Nadirid levy has started to siege Toledo.

April 10

CKII%2022-15.png

We took the capital Wilayah, and warscore rises to 12%.

April 28

I receive a notification of that Count Adelfonso of Viscaya has imprisoned some guy, Rekkaredo. I bring this up since this guy has the distinction of being a Cathar. It’s considered a Catholic Heresy. I’m sure this was added by the DLC, since best I knew, the Fraticelli was the only one present of its category. Well, more variety, I guess.

June 12

García Jr has come of age, and with that, the Groom an Heir ambition is fulfilled.

June 17

CKII%2022-16.png

A new advance I can show. As you can see, not only is it useful as it reduces construction time and cost, but also it unlocks stuff. For the level II, it’s a couple Hospital upgrades. Well, finally.

June 20

Duke Diego II disbands his faction for the throne.

June 21

In total disregard to their own struggles, the Qashid levy is attacking us in Almansa. Where we have the terrain advantage, and they have the river crossing disadvantage. And our levy outnumbers theirs. Yeah… they probably didn’t think this through.

June 25

The Barracks II in Palencia and Zamora are finished. Also, the Nadirid levy has stopped their siege and coming to reinforce the Qashid levy.

July 7

Another of the POW kids, Yasmin bint Muyahid, assimilates to Castilian.

July 17

The Nadirid have reinforced the Qashid. Hmm, this could tip the scales to their favor. In other news, Prince Goméz (King García’s second son, not the Goméz that is his younger brother) has turned 12. With the traits Affectionate, Playful, and Timid, I assign him Diplomatic Education. I also arrange a betrothal between him and Theodota Walpertingi, a Lombard relative of a Count. Though I didn’t check who exactly.

July 30

The betrothal is accepted.

CKII%2022-17.png

We also win at the City of Albacete, bringing warscore to 54%. A big boost, hah! Not even with their forces combined they could match us.

August 12

CKII%2022-18.png

And the city is also ours, with warscore now at 73%.

November 30

CKII%2022-19.png

And with the Mosque of Hellín, warscore rises to 87%, and the sheikhdom is under our full control. On to the next!

December 1

But now Emir Ghalib II calls for help to Sultan Murad of the Umayyad.

December 14

We begin to siege Mursiya. And soon we enter 843AD.

January 14

Countess Sancha rejoins the ICP.

January 27

The kid, Yasmin, converts to Catholicism.

March 19

The Qashid levy starts to liberate Almansa.

March 20

Once again, the “kid reads private letters” triggers, this time with Princess Fronilda. And she now loses 30 prestige.

April 27

My Chancellor has improved relations with Countess Sancha.

May 14

Which makes her leave the ICP.

May 22

Time to upgrade Palencia’s Stables.

May 29

CKII%2022-20.png

Ah, nothing like some uncle-niece bonding (Goméz’s daughter, if I remember right). The bottom option does nothing, so I decided to see if she could gain the Playful trait. And she did.

May 30

Once more triggers the event where I can make a child either Patience, Diligent (these first two with a penalty for the King), a rival, or do nothing. This time with Tfit. Considering things, I go for nothing.

June 10

Malaga has become majority Catholic. That’s the advantage of having vassals who also decide to have their own Court Chaplains ordered to Proselyte. But as you may be also realizing, this can be a double-edged sword. Mainly, the Fraticelli Duke, who has convinced two counts to convert, and is likely to also be turning the Barcelona area Fraticelli. Great, instead of worrying of the area becoming Catalan, it’s worrying it will become Fraticelli. Well, good thing I have my own Court Chaplain on the Duchy to counter that. It may not be enough, though…

June 17

Duke João has rejoined the ICP.

July 2

The time has come to rise rank again at the Benedictine Order.

July 24

CKII%2022-21.png

The next rank, Commissus. Truth be told, I’ve yet to use that new decision, to invite a Holy Ascetic, so I can’t tell you yet what it does. Maybe in the future…

August 14

Count Juan of Soria has joined the ICP.

September 4

CKII%2022-22.png

Ah, what a great honor. Also, if I haven’t showed this yet, v2.7 added a new feature in that characters now have item inventories. Instead of being traits, items that characters possess now are placed in the inventory, with more details like a picture and stuff. Remember when King Aurelio, and later Fruela II, had that Finger of John the Baptist? That would’ve been placed in the inventory had it existed back then. The patch and DLC brought forth new items to make use of this feature, in addition to the ones that already existed.

CKII%2022-23.png

One last siege to bring warscore to 100%, and we win! The Nadirid, whoever, still live, since their lands composed over two different de jure duchies/emirates. And we’re closing the gap between our lands. As a last detail, Mursiya is renamed Murcia.

Oh yeah, something I’ve only noticed, but Paradox has made a patch 2.7.1, with some bugfixes and small additional changes. It’s not officially released, but available for Open Beta option in Steam. I’m not switching for now.

Well, until next time.

Chapter XXIII – Event Spam

September 4, 843AD – October 3, 847AD

Spoiler

Well, you know the drill. The County of Murcia is granted to a courtier, Álvaro, and that’s it for excess demesne. I’m keeping Almansa until my demesne goes over the limit. Now, to enact the Realm Prosper ambition, that we know we’ll never fulfill, but that 1% drop to Global Revolt Risk is as good as any boost. Next, I gift gold to Count Juan of Soria, and Count Suniefredo. So, we begin.

September 7

Ghalib II forms a Muslim Defensive Pact against me. He’s no longer an emir, naturally, due to only have one sheikhdom left, and that’s not enough for de jure Emirate title tied to it.

October 14

Count Juan leaves the ICP.

October 19

The defensive pact dissolves. Heh, so much for that.

October 24

Well, the good news, is that the Court Chaplain has converted someone. Bad news, it was just a courtier, and that doesn’t help to put a stop to the Fraticelli presence in the Duchy.

November 11

Another trigger of the event which the Marshall finds a promising candidate. I chose the option that congratulates the Marshall.

November 24

An interesting development, a rebellion over in Aquitaine…

CKII%2023-1.png

The Duchy of Toulouse has liberated itself. Mind you, as it is, it doesn’t match de jure Toulouse. The thing about it is that what caused this was a Cathar uprising. So, don’t be surprised if the Occitanic region sees a flourishing Cathar presence. Kinda like Barcelona and it’s Fraticelli situation. Will Toulouse last? One way to find out.

December 3

My Court Chaplain converts another courtier. Still no joy there…

December

Pelagio de Cantabria, Prince Johan’s son, has a second child, Johan. I assign him Thrift education.

December 9

Once more begins the event chain of an Order Member inviting me to see his garden. I comply.

December 15

CKII%2023-2.png

Another new type of mission, but one I must decline. Building a Church is effectively to build a Temple, one of the construction options for a county. Those buildings cost a lot of money, so I’d rather pass on that. Oh well.

December 26

The war between Galicia and Navarra is over. Navarra won, so Galicia was unable to recover Santiago.

We soon enter 844AD.

January 15

Next event in the chain. Either help in the garden or not, I chose the latter.

January 17

CKII%2023-3.png

Ah, this can also be a money sink. I chose bottom option.

January 31

I receive a notification that Princess Elvira has come with the flu. Well, time to call the Court Physician.

March 20

I upgrade Zamora’s Stables.

March 29

Once more the “Rival, Diligent, Patience, Do nothing” event with a kid, this time Kera. I go for nothing, as usual.

May 9

CKII%2023-4.png

So, the following happened. I got a notification that Countess Sancha believes she could make a better Spymaster than my current one, Count Suniefredo. Now, her Intrigue stat is 18, to Suniefredo’s 19. It might look like she’s not better, BUT, Suniefredo has quite the number of negative traits, and judging some of them, he’s suspected of being a heretic (way I understand it, there’s chance he might even be a member of Lucifer’s Own). As I see it, it might not be a bad idea to get him out of the way. He also currently leads a plot, so… that gives me all the in-game justification I need for my action to go without hitch.

It was a 75% chance to imprison him, which thankfully made it through. Normally, accepting the option to replace a Council member with another would anger the one being replaced, but since the position opened due to the imprisonment, and he got angry for it anyway, that part stopped mattering. I know, it’s kinda meta-gaming, if that’s the term, but ah well…

And so, Countess Sancha goes to Constantinople to Study Technology. The usual. In the meantime, I gift gold to Duke Artau of Aragón. Last, I start another Summer Fair.

May 10

Someone left the ICP, I couldn’t check who exactly, but all I know is that it makes Duke Artau the new leader. Yeah, when the leader quits, you don’t get told that, you’re just told who is the new leader.

May 14

And showing once more that vassals are an ungrateful lot, Countess Sancha rejoins the ICP.

May 17

CKII%2023-5.png

The top option I gain 5 gold, but Count Lope’s opinion drops slightly for a time. Bottom one is better, but unfortunately 25% wasn’t enough to gain the trait.

June 6

CKII%2023-6.png

This event has triggered in previous fairs, but just showing that it can have a negative outcome, since it’s the first time it happens. Yeah.

June 15

The kid Huda is now the subject of the RDHN (Rival, Diligent, Honest, Nothing) event, as I now like to call it. Since like the people coming and going from the Council Power faction, this one’s becoming a recurrent thing too. As usual, I go for doing nothing.

July 8

The Summer Fair ends. In other news, the time has come to arrange the marriage between García Jr and Thiedburga.

July 14

Princess Fronilda has turned 12. With the traits Willful, Indolent, and Curious, I assign her Stewardship education, and betroth her to Prince Pippin, son of Dietwin, the leader of a revolt in East Francia. Yes, we can do that.

July 15

Salamanca gains Siege Equipment I.

July 22 – July 24

Both betrothal and marriage go through.

August 2

Almansa had a Keep upgrade when we took it. It’s now finished.

August 25

CKII%2023-7.png

An interesting event. Bottom option does nothing. Top one we lose 100 gold and gain 100 prestige. Middle option… well, as you can see, on paper it sounds like the best option. Gain both the gold and prestige. Greed is one of the few Deadly Sins that affect us more positive than negative, but that’s only in terms of raw effects. Certain events do have triggers in the traits, after all. King García is already Deceitful, so that last consequence doesn’t affect us. All in all, the middle option is the risky option… but one I’ll take. So yeah, nothing like good old fraud.

September 16

Time to upgrade Valladolid’s Stables.

September 20

Duke Diego II reforms his faction for the throne.

October 12

Raiders arrive at Granada.

October 16

The first of the POW kids, Tfit, has come of age; gaining the Brilliant Strategist trait. Unfortunately, I couldn’t recruit her into my court. I think it’s due to her home area being too far away to apply, or something. There’s little use for her imprisoned, so I just released her.

October 29

Palencia’s Stables II are finished.

December 17

Well, it happened. King Desiderius II died of pneumonia. His sister, Geila, becomes Queen, and she alongside Johan leave my court for Lombardy. Well now, we got House de Cantabria into the Lombard throne, since Geila’s children are of our dynasty, not hers.

December 21

I tried to do it through my Court Chaplain, but the more time the Duke remains Fraticelli, the more risk it will spread. Therefore, now that Desiderius II’s death removes my plot, I start another… with Duke Rodrigo as my target. And surprising me at first, the moment I enact auto-recruit, A LOT of people signs up (Plot Power ended up over 200%!). I don’t even need to guess, it’s practically all the still-Catholic people in the Duchy.

And we soon enter 845AD…

January 22

Another notification of an illegitimate child being born, Berengario. From Count Froila of Urgell, and courtier Eldonza from San Pedro de Périx. I assign him Struggle focus.

January 31

Once more the RDHN event, this time with Laweye. Choosing Nothing, as usual.

February 6

CKII%2023-8.png

It begins.

February 7

Next of the POW kids to become Catholic, and it’s Daniyah bint Abdul-Gafur.

February 9 – February 10

Another Order event, once more the one about a member dozing off during prayer. It goes well, as usual. I still don’t know if there can be a bad outcome from choosing the waking up option, but if it happens, I’ll let you know.

February 26

The RDHN event again, this time with Goméz, García’s nephew. Nothing as usual, even for family members.

March 6

CKII%2023-9.png

Oh, how unfortunate. His son, Gutierre, becomes next duke. Now, I’m not that cruel as to plot to kill a child (he’s still under 16). At least, I give a year or two below the coming of age limit before I start going all mustache-twirling. Which reminds me, I need to shave.  Anyway, if there’s an advantage with kids is that with the proper educator, we can shape them to change their culture.

March 9

Now, Duke Gutierre’s educator is Bishop Lubartas of Vic. Showing how far the Fraticelli spread has gone, he too is a Fraticelli. Now, I could plot to murder him, BUT, he has the trait “Known Murderer”. This trait is usually granted for those whose plots have been discovered, but went through with them anyway. As such, it gives me free access to imprison him without angering the populace. It was only 51% chance, but fortunately, we caught him. As an aside, I gift gold to Duke Gutierre.

March 18

Duke Mauregato joins the ICP. I gift him gold.

April 11

Prince Goméz, King García’s brother, has a son, Enrique Goméz. I assign the Duty focus.

April 19

Checking on Duke Gutierre’s new educator, to my misfortune it was another Fraticelli. His Spymaster, Sancho. Okay… I’m giving another chance to my Court Chaplain.

April 28

Queen Monnia becomes pregnant once more.

May 4

Time for another Summer Fair.

May 17

A fair event. Just the one of the jester performing without much of note, granting 5 prestige.

June 7

CKII%2023-10.png

Ah yes, I approve building roads.

June 23

Got a notification one of our POWs, Leodegundis, died.

June 26

The fair event about the jugglers triggers once more. As always, I go for the option that grants me 10 prestige at the cost of 5 piety, since the Church doesn’t like the jugglers.

July 3

And the fair ends.

July 14

The Marshall improves another Commander, Diego. He even gained the Organizer trait.

August 2

One of the POW kids, or Corrins, if you will, has come of age, Kera. She gained the Underhanded Rogue trait. She likewise is one we can’t recruit. Well, releasing her. I have the faintest of hopes any person I release back, with their changed culture and religion, won’t either die or snap back, and perhaps they start spreading it. As I say, they are faint hopes, but better than nothing.

August 12

Time to upgrade Salamanca’s Militia Training Grounds.

August 22

Daniyah assimilates to Castilian.

August 25

CKII%2023-11.png

Well, we got caught. Damn. The funny thing is, that’s the only penalty. Just the prestige loss. Bah, an acceptable loss, then.

August 27

Zamora’s Stables II are done.

September 3

Baron Alonso if Illescas died of Great Pox. His son, Gil, has inherited the Barony.

September 5

The Sultans are still at each other’s throats.

CKII%2023-12.png

Let’s help ourselves to pick on the lesser Emirates, and gain another enclave. The Emirate is still defending itself from that conquest attempt, so that helps, sort of. Anyway, I call forth my levies, and I move them southwest.

October 11

I fight the tattered remains of the Qashid Emirate’s forces in Shlib. All 87 of them. Yeah, they’re not doing well.

October 28

CKII%2023-13.png

Not much of a fight in the City of Lagos. Warscore only rises to 1%. I still don’t have enough forces to start sieging, though, but that will be taken care of in due time. In other news, Prince García Jr is now a father, to María Garcés. I assign her Etiquette focus.

November 13

Military Points, thanks to our Spymaster.

November 23

Next Corrin to come of age is Huda. She gained the Skillful Tactician trait, and another I must release, since I can’t recruit.

November 27

King García’s newest child has been born, Alonso Garcés. In a… quite unfortunate outcome, he has the Imbecile trait. Lowers all stats by 8, -10 opinion from vassals, among other negative modifiers. Yeah. I assign him the Struggle focus.

December 8

Duke Diego II disbands his faction for the throne.

We soon enter 846AD.

January 21

CKII%2023-14.png

The Mosque of Aljustrel is ours, warscore rises to 15%. The capital holding is currently captured by the other attackers of the Qashid Emirate. No, we can’t take it from them, it seems.

February 24

Valladolid’s Stables II are finished.

February 25

CKII%2023-15.png

The City of Lagos is ours, and warscore rises to 42%. That’s it for the sheikhdom, and the other is already under full control of the other attackers, so… hmm…

March 9

CKII%2023-16.png

Ah, there we go. The other guy could enforce his demands, which was taking over the place. The Qashid Emirate is no more, replaced with the Abdelrahmanid Emirate, who inherit the Holy War, so now I can continue my siege.

April 5

Johan’s son, Pelagio, has a second child, Rodericho. I assign him the Struggle focus.

May 3

King García receives the “I am starting to think X might fancy me…”, to one who certainly is not his wife. As in other cases this event has appeared, I go for not pursuing such thing, gaining 5 piety in the process.

May 7

The RDHN event triggers with another of the Corrins, Yasmin. I go for nothing, as usual.

May 9

Countess Sancha finally leaves the ICP… again.

May 14

And then rejoins… only to leave the following day. I’m going to state it now. Starting now Countess Sancha is going to be joining and leaving, joining and leaving, joining and leaving. Don’t know why her AI started to act that way. Maybe a bug, or something. In any case, since this kept on for quite a while, I’m not going to be mentioning all the times it happens. I’ll just say whenever it finally stops.

May 23

CKII%2023-17.png

Well, finally showing what Keeps do, as I now actually begin building one, in León. Comes in handy.

June 15

The Corrin, Laweye, comes of age, gaining the Flamboyant Scheme trait. Again, someone I can’t recruit, so I just release him.

July 5

Almansa gains the Military Organization I advance.

July 8

Count Lope of Porto died of cancer. He’s succeeded by his daughter, Fronilda.

July 11

Prince Goméz has come of age, gaining the Underhanded Rogue trait. Now, time to arrange his marriage with Theodota. The ceremony happens on July 26.

August 15

Next kids to turn 12 are the twins, Princesses Sancha and Mayor. First, Sancha has the traits Timid, Brooding, and Conscientious, and assign her Stewardship education. Also, I betroth her to Chief Fáelgus of Dubhlinn. Three guesses where that is.

Next, Mayor has the Timid, Indolent, and Playful, and assign her Intrigue education. I betroth her to Duke Godescale II of Benevento, in Lombardy.

August 23

Raiders arrive to Santiago. Also, something I just noticed, but it seems someone over on the other side of the Pyrenees died, because now the Kingdom of Burgundy exists. The borders are even more messier, if that was even possible.

CKII%2023-18.png

Just look at that, they have one county at the Elbe. The Karlings should’ve thought better than to have Gavelkind.

August 27 – August 31

Both betrothals get accepted.

October 8

King García’s niece, Marina, has turned 12. With the Haughty, Playful, and Willful traits, I assign her Martial education. I then betroth her to Duke Waimar of Ivrea, in Lombardy. It gets accepted on October 22.

October 28

Duke Diego II favors now for Prince Gonzalo to take the throne. I won’t really start worrying about this until enough people start doing it. We are currently in Elective, after all.

November 4

CKII%2023-19.png

And now we take over the capital Wilayah. Warscore is 55% and now we can siege the other sheikhdom.

November 12

We attack the enemy in Uhshunubah.

November 28

CKII%2023-20.png

Oh wow, first time I see a total rout outside a siege. No warscore gain, because apparently, the Emirate was in war with… whoever were these guys. I forgot to check, sorry.

Not much else of note happens for the remaining of the year and we enter 847AD.

January 3

The raiders in Santiago are now being attacked by Navarra, since if you remember, they currently have Santiago under their jurisdiction.

January 15

My Marshall has trained Baron Oveco of San Pedro de Périx. Also, the time has come to enact another… disposal. With Duke Gutierre of Barcelona. And once more plot power rises to over 200%... yeah…

January 19

Salamanca’s Militia Training Grounds II are finished.

January 21

So, time to upgrade their Barracks, now. Also, the raiders have been driven off from Santiago.

February 9

CKII%2023-21.png

It begins. And what, did she asked for the hunter to bring his heart as proof?

February 12

The RDHN event, now with Fronilda. Still choosing for nothing.

March 9

CKII%2023-22.png

Seems this hunter also had a conscience. But no, Gutierre won’t flee into the woods and meet a group of dwarves.

March 21

CKII%2023-23.png

Sancha is no quitter, it turns out. Fail me once, shame on you. Fail me twice… wait…

March 22

Raiders in Porto.

April 6

Corrin Salma is now the target of the RDHN event. Well, this time without the R. I can only guess Salma has a trait that prevents selecting that option. Well, still going for nothing.

April 9

The Order botany event triggers again. As always, I chose to go visit the gardens.

April 11

I get a notification that Duke Artau of Aragón could ask a favor to Countess Sancha. And now he had dictated she should join all his factions. However, considering just this day Sancha was doing her usual “join-leave” the ICP, it seems the ICP was not one of those. Well, good, I guess.

April 15

CKII%2023-24.png

Quite an easy mission. I don’t mind shifting the focus.

April 18

CKII%2023-25.png

And almost one month away from his 15th birthday. What we are in the dark, indeed. His brother, Sancho, becomes the new duke. I gift him gold.

April 26

CKII%2023-26.png

Oh, this is nice! Yeah, I don’t mind much the Intrigue loss, since our specialty is Stewardship, not Intrigue.

May 3

Raiders in Malaga.

May 7

A revolt arises in the Duchy of Barcelona. Led by Nunno, he wants to press Count Álvaro’s claim on the Duchy.

May 10

The botany event chain continues. This time, I chose the option to help. It’s a 60% to gain +1 Learning, and 40% for -1 Learning, and -0.05 Monthly Prestige. Unfortunately, I didn’t check right away which one I got.

May 29

CKII%2023-27.png

First target is the capital holding, Wilayah of Harun. Warscore is now 69%.

June 14

I enact the Heavy Infantry II advance.

July 18

Murcia becomes majority Catholic.

July 22

Pope Nicolaus has died. His successor is Pope Lucius III.

September 3

CKII%2023-28.png

The Mosque of Loulé is next to fall. Warscore is now 84%.

September 26

Yasmin has come of age, gaining the Flamboyant Schemer trait. For once, we can recruit a Corrin from this latest batch into our court.

October 3

CKII%2023-29.png

Surprisingly, for once my enemy is offering their surrender, without us forcing them to. Of course, I’m accepting such offer.

CKII%2023-30.png

And we gain another disconnected area. Yeah, I know.

Thus, another war comes to its end. We are proving to be the most powerful faction in the peninsula. But there can only be one…

Patch 2.7.1 is already out of open beta. Nothing of note has showed up when I played, so my save file keeps being fine to continue this LP with up to date with the game’s latest version. Though there’s still some time before it reaches updates made with it. Well, until next time.

Chapter XXIV – Broadening Horizons

October 3, 847AD – January 19, 850AD

Spoiler

Time to start with the usual. Both provinces got renamed, into Silves and Faro. Respectively, I assign them to Rodrigo de Zaragoza and Diego, both courtiers. Well, the latter was one of my Commanders, which is a step above a simple courtier, I guess.

CKII%2024-1.png

And both are part of the Duchy of Algarve. Faro is the capital, so the now Count Diego is granted the Duchy, since I can only hold two Duchies without the vassals objecting about it. And we begin…

October 4

León’s Keep is finished.

October 8

Duke Diego II leaves the ICP.

October 18

Followed by Duke Mauregato.

October 24

Husam Qashid forms a Defensive Pact against me. This one might not necessarily be a Muslim Defensive Pact, because the Cathar Count Ferrand of Agen has joined it. Ah yes, Toulouse is now called Agen. I guess the guy changed his title, since the main title of a character is what shows up on the map.

December 5

Baron Oveco of San Pedro de Périx died of cancer. He was succeeded by his son, Enrique. On happier news, Pelagio de Cantabria has another son, Ranimiro. Though he was born with a harelip. Amitedly, that’s the first time I’m hearing of the sort. Anyway, I assign him the Duty focus.

December 16

I decided to create another Defense Retinue.

December 27

The defensive pact against me dissolves.

We soon enter 848AD.

January 1

A peasant revolt rises in Andalusia.

February 16

CKII%2024-2.png

Damn! We finally get the Steward’s bad outcome of his job. Man, not Toledo…

April 7

My Chancellor has improved our relations with Baron Gil of Illescas.

May 1

Time for another summer fair.

May 17

Aha, progress! My Court Chaplain has converted Count Froila of Urgell back to Catholicism. In other news, I get the fair event about the monkey trainer. I chose the option to just pay him.

May 18

CKII%2024-3.png

Another Pope posthumously disgraced.

June 6

Once more I get the fair event about peddlers selling stolen goods. As always, I can either execute them to lower the revolt risk with a 25% chance to gain Cruel, or just confiscate the goods and lock them up, gaining 5 gold. I take the latter.

June 9

CKII%2024-4.png

Time to put the Qashid Emirate out of its misery… wait! When did they took over the Nadirid Emirate!? The Qashid were in Algarve. Hmm, I guess after they got kicked out, they fled to the Nadirid… and then they took over? Beats me.

In any case, I call forth my personal levies, and send them over. Well, I’m sending them to neutral land first, at La Mancha, just like in the previous war.

June 26

Once more the fair event about the archer. For some reason, the option to just pay him is not there. Just the one that grants Paranoid, and the one that increases revolt risk. I take the latter, since the revolt risk eventually leaves, but the Paranoid trait stays indefinitely.

June 30

Salamanca’s Barracks II is finished. So does the Summer Fair.

July 1

CKII%2024-5.png

New building type to show. Fort Level determines how long it takes for a siege to go through. As such, it’s best to increase it to slow down sieges. That said, for León itself, there’s little peril, at least from outside invasions. It’s still best to increase the fort level for inward provinces, due to possible rebellions.

July 11

Princess Fronilda comes of age, gaining the Thrifty Clerk trait. Now I can arrange her marriage with Count Grasulf of Tripolitania.

July 12

Castelo Branco gains Military Organization I.

July 18

And Valladolid gains Light Infantry I.

July 22

The marriage happens, and Fronilda leaves for Tripolitania.

August 1

Enough men have arrived at La Mancha, now, I send them over to invade. The Qashid have yet to move their levy, they’re on the defensive.

August 15

Corrin Salma has come of age, gaining the Fortune Builder trait. I recruit her.

August 20

CKII%2024-6.png

The top option grants temporal rises in both the city tax, and peasant revolt risk. During war, I’d rather avoid the latter, even if the former is tempting. As well, it would increase the Mayor’s opinion. The bottom option is simply the Mayor’s opinion dropping instead of rising. I took that.

August 27

My main army attacks the Qashid in Deniyya.

September 16

Prince García Jr. has son, García Garcés. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how default names love to Jr. them up, at least with the firstborn son. Anyway, I assign him the Pride focus. Now that García Jr. has a son, what I’ll do is preemptively betroth his children. For María Garcés, I betroth her to King Berald of Aquitaine. And García Garcés to Cynethryth, relative of King Heahberht, of the Petty Kingdom of Essex. Why am I doing this now? You’ll see a little later.

September 19

Count Gutierre of Molina joins the ICP.

September 20

CKII%2024-7.png

We won at the Mosque of Elx. Warscore rises to 18%, and we begin to siege.

September 27 – October 1

The betrothals are accepted. Now that that’s done, time to explain why. I’m now granting the county of Toledo to Prince García. The reason for this is so that he stops being unlanded. To help in his prestige gain (he is the heir, after all), and since I can’t do stuff like betrothals with the children of landed people, hence why I waited, to ensure I could choose at least, the first son.

October 4

My court chaplain converts a courtier. Hmm…

November 2

CKII%2024-8.png

Well, that happened. And the thing is, the game counts this as if he just been released. So, the Count just returns to his duties… and things go on as if nothing had happened. Or so. Okay…

November 3

CKII%2024-9.png

Well, look at that, we’re Conversus. It’s a bit amusing how little you may actually only need to do to end up as the designated heir, then obtain the title.

November 16

Count Sunifriedo joins the ICP.

December 14

León’s Castle Fortifications are finished.

December 15

CKII%2024-10.png

So, time to upgrade them. In addition, I begin construction of Castle Fortifications in Palencia and Zamora.

CKII%2024-11.png

Don’t remember if I’ve showed it already, but here is this advance I can make now. Admittedly, I’m not fully versed in what this does. But it’s the last Tier II Economic Advance left to enact, so… eh…

The rest of the month passes, and we enter 849AD.

January 1

Johan de Cantabria died comatose in bed. That’s it. The last of King Aurelio’s children is finally dead. The end of a generation…

January 21

The county of Faro converts to Catholicism.

February 8

Another notification of an illegitimate child being born, Alim. Parents are Nunno, leading the Barcelonian revolt, and Eldonza de San Pedro de Périx. I assign him the Struggle focus.

April 27

After a big absence, I receive once more the event where the Mercenary Company asks for more men. Sure.

May 2

And now, once more I receive the event with one of the children where I can choose if they gain a trait or not. In this case, it’s with Princess Sancha, losing the Brooding trait and the choice is a chance to become Temperate, or just outright gain Just. I go for the latter.

May 11

Such unfortunate news! Prince García Jr. has come down with the flu. Time for the Court Physician to get immediately to work.

May 18

CKII%2024-12.png

We capture Deniyya… and warscore outright jumps to 100%, ending the war. This is because we got a batch of 16 POW’s! Including the Emir’s wives and some of his sons. And so, we gain Deniyya, now Denia. And that’s it for the independent Emirates. Now it’s just back to the Umayyad and Andalusia.

Once I have given out the lesser titles, I still had the demesne to personally keep Denia for the time being. Well, so be it.

May 20

Count Garҫi of Malaga died of cancer. With no heir, the county is inherited to Duchess María of Granada.

May 29

The war in Barcelona is over. Duke Sancho won, reintegrating Tarragona and imprisoning Count Nunno.

May 30

León’s Castle Fortifications II are done.

June 2

CKII%2024-13.png

Considering its Prince García complaining about Prince Gomez, I consider this perhaps sibling jealousy? Either way, one son will get angered out of this, but García won’t be as much as Gomez, so I chose the bottom option.

June 7

The Castle Fortifications of Zamora and Palencia are finished.

June 9 – June 10

Another case of the Order event with the member dozing off during prayer. As always, I chose the option to wake him up. I still don’t know if there can be another outcome of this decision, but for now, I don’t mind not finding out.

June 26

Queen Monnia becomes pregnant once more.

July 22

Valladolid gains Shipbuilding I. It doesn’t matter that Valladolid is landlocked, this is just the result of the technology spread effect. Now, enacting Shipbuilding to León… wait, I think I did, some while back. Oh well!

September 14

One of the Corrins, Amsha Qashid, died. Most unfortunate.

October 1

Time to upgrade the Castle Fortifications in Palencia and Zamora.

October 9

Zamora gains the Prospering trait.

October 14

Queen Geila died, clutching at her heart. Her son Pelagio, King García’s cousin, becomes King of Lombardy. It’s done. The House de Cantabria now rules Lombardy. First Italy, tomorrow Europe!

November 1

CKII%2024-14.png

And naturally, with no Lombard on the throne, it might as well no longer be Lombardy. And yet, chances are Pelagio, or any of his descendants if they remain on the throne, will likely to change their culture to Lombard. But I don’t know if there’s an event for that restoring Lombardy.

You see, this event is most likely supposed to trigger when the Lombard start to turn into Italians. Same way how the Visigoths turn into Castilians / Catalans / Andalusians / etc. But since I kinda disrupted that by doing things that placed a Visigoth on the throne (though to be fair, the RNG also helped there), the event triggers now, since it only checks the lack of a Lombard ruler, not the presence of an Italian one. So yeah.

In any case, perhaps this Cantabria branch will cut the middle man and turn Italian. I doubt they will start to turn this peninsula Visigoth. Well, it will be interesting how that develops, however it goes.

November 13

Another illegitimate child is born, Teresa de León. From Count Froila of Urgell and Yasmin Muyahidez. I assign her the Etiquette focus.

Nothing much for the rest of the year, and so we enter 850AD.

January 17

The war between the sultanates is over. Andalusia won, preserving its independence.

January 19

Time to do this:

CKII%2024-15.png

Establish the Titular Kingdom of Castile. Unlike others, this one does not have de jure land, hence Titular. I did this mostly for the prestige. I could turn it into my main title, which in turn would make it as Kingdom of Castile on the map, but for now, I’m keeping León as the primary title.

And now, one last thing to do, is to nominate García Jr. as the heir of Castile. Now that I have more than one Kingdom, I need to be careful of avoiding losing titles through inheritance.

And thus, ends another update. We expand not just through war, but through marriage (even if no actual land was gained) as well. Could I acquire that latter land into my fold? I’m not sure. Perhaps with the “vassalage the heir and kill the current ruler” thing, but well, I’d rather just focus on Iberia first. Would I come to regret this decision? Well, we’ll see eventually. So, until next time!

Chapter XXV – Fall of a Sultanate

January 19, 850AD – December 31, 851

Spoiler

CKII%2025-1.png

The Reconquista must not rest. It’s a shame the Sultans have stopped fighting each other, but oh well. Time to take more land from Sultan Ali Ababwa. Starting with sending the personal levies. I chose Badajoz since it’s four provinces big. Better take the most land in the least amount of wars.

January 21

Now that I have a new kingdom title, here comes the nominations. Duke João begins by favoring Prince Gonzalo as heir to Castile. Gotta be careful here, and ensure the one I want as heir remains with most votes. Ah, the downside of the Elective procedure.

January 24

Duke Mauregato, meanwhile, favors himself as heir.

January 26

New batch of Corrins means starting anew the assimilation and conversions. So we start with Souzan bint Fadil becoming Castilian.

January 27

The newest son of King García is born, Prince Oveco Garcés. I assign him the Struggle focus. Meanwhile, Duke Artaus nominates himself for heir of Castile.

January 31

My men begin to arrive to Plasencia.

February 10

Duke Diego favors Prince García as heir to Castile. Good. That’s two votes against everybody else’s one’s and zero’s.

February 12

King García has gained the title of The Great. Aye, that indeed.

February 17

Count Gutierre of Molina leaves the ICP.

February 22

Princess Elvira is the target of the lost toy event. As always, choosing the buying another option, and once more we have an ungrateful child that gains the Fussy trait. There’s just not pleasing these kids.

February 28

I get a notification that Prince García wants to kill Prince Gómez. What? Fraticide! I can suspect García may begin to fear his brother will rob him of his inheritance. Still, I demand him to stop his plot.

March 11

The last of my men arrive at Plasencia. Also, I release one of my POWs, Guraya. Reason for this is that she’s forty-five, which if I remember right, is already beyond the child-bearing age range the game assigns. Or so. Don’t know exactly the range. Anyway, releasing her at such age, I don’t fear she’ll bear kids to whoever she is married to. Or eventually marries. Then again, it might not be something to worry from all of them, anyway.

March 18

Prince García drops his plot.

March 24

Palencia and Zamora’s Castle Fortifications II are finished.

April 20

Duke Mauregato of Navarra founds the “Duke Diego II for Castile” faction.

April 24

And for good measure, switches his nomination for him, as well.

May 4

Count Sunifriedo founds the “Duke João for León” faction.

May 6

Andalusia is finally sending their forces towards me. I still have the higher numbers, so I don’t worry. But then they simply send them south. Hmm…

May 9

CKII%2025-2.png

An easy choice to make, as the other one would mean a 5 piety loss.

May 27

King García’s mother in law, Monnia, has died due to gout complications.

June 3

I enact the Popular Customs II advance. As a reminder, the Customs advances grant flat increases to vassal opinions. In this case, Popular Customs is to City vassals.

July 10

Castelo Branco gains Siege Equipment I. Also, I see the Andalusian stack has come back north, and this time it is heading towards my levy.

July 17

Count Gutierre of Molina died a natural death. He’s succeeded by his son, Vela.

July 23

Valladolid gains Military Organization I.

July 26

The Andalusian finally reach us and a fight breaks out.

August 5

Economic Points are obtained thanks to the Spymaster.

August 7

CKII%2025-3.png

Ah, the fruits of our studies.

August 11

Twins Mayor and Sancha come of age. Regarding traits, Mayor obtained Elusive Shadow, and Sancha got Fortune Builder. As far the betrothals go, I can now arrange Sancha’s marriage to Chief Fáelgus of Dubhlinn.

August 19

CKII%2025-4.png

The King learns more stuff. As you can see, I went for Heavy Infantry. It is usually what I have the most of.

August 22

CKII%2025-5.png

Battle is won at the City of Hervás, bringing warscore to a big jump to 50%!

August 24

The marriage arrangement is accepted.

October 4

Another Sephardi Jew arrives to my court, Ysrael of Lucania. Has a decent Intrigue stat, so he can make a good replacement for Countess Sancha if needed.

October 15

Despite Pelagio becoming King of Italy, his current children are still here in Iberia. As such, I still call the shots for certain things. For now, his daughter, Leodegundis, has turned twelve; and thus with the Fussy, Playful, and Rowdy traits, I assign her to Intrigue education. I also betroth her to Duke Ceslin of Champagne, over in East Francia.

October 25

Corrin Souzan Fadilez (notice how the culture change also changed her surname from “bint Fadil” to “Fadilez”?) converts to Catholic.

October 28

The betrothal is accepted.

November 7

CKII%2025-6.png

The Wilayah of Plasencia is first to fall, rising warscore to 58%. In less fortunate news, Baron Manrique of Castrobarte died a natural death. He was succeeded by his son, Fernando.

December 23

CKII%2025-7.png

Ouch. Wait, what exactly triggered this!?

Regardless, we soon enter 851AD.

January 7

The Andalusians attack us again at Plasencia. Now I’m the one with lesser numbers, but I have the terrain advantage due to them river crossing.

January 9

I receive the event where I can enact a non-aggression pact since the spouse has been traveling and got along fine with their ruler. In this case, it was over yonder in the Petty Kingdom of Gwynedd. Sure, got nothing to lose by doing that. I accept King Hywel II’s proposal.

January 21

CKII%2025-8.png

Well, that’s straightforward.

January 31

Time to arrange the marriage between Princess Mayor and Duke Godescale II of Benevento.

February 1

The Umayyad have joined the war. I also notice they now have a Sultan Halil. Hmm, seems I missed what happened to the previous one.

February 2

CKII%2025-9.png

Victory in Hervás once more. Warscore rises to 74%. That said, since now I must deal with both Sultanates, it’s time to call forth my vassal levies. Heh, been some time since I had to rely on them. I send them over to Plasencia.

February 11

The marriage is accepted.

February 16

Raiders have arrived in Santiago.

February 26

Another Sephardi Jew arrives to my court, Pirkoi of Kabirwala.

CKII%2025-10.png

We finally take over the city, and warscore is now 84%.

February 27

Duke Artau of Aragón died of cancer. He was succeeded by his son, Gombau. At the same time, Count Sunifriedo takes over the ICP. Apparently Artau was the leader. This also left me without a Steward, so I appoint Pirkoi as his replacement, to Administer the Realm.

March 1

Duke Gombau founds a faction for the throne of León.

March 18

Meanwhile, Duke Diego II disbands his faction for Castile.

April 22

The raiders in Santiago leave.

May 12

CKII%2025-11.png

The Mosque of Jaraíz is the last to fall, bringing warscore to 92% and the sheikhdom under our full occupation.

June 11

Raiders now arrive at Coruña. The last of my vassal levies have also arrived at Plasencia. I merge them all, and send them south to get those last warscore %’s on the Andalusian army. I’ll have to face the river crossing penalty, but I outnumber almost 2 to 1.

June 21

We attack them at Caceres. I also notice the warscore is starting to tick down. Well, this battle will give me enough warscore to reach 100% anyway… I hope.

July 11

More raiders now at Porto.

July 14

CKII%2025-12.png

And our victory in the city of Trujillo sends warscore to 100%. Time to end this…

CKII%2025-13.png

Still not connecting our lands, but we’re certainly closing the gaps. Haha, still seems border-gory. But at least we’re not like France’s.

Okay, time to assign demesne. When it comes to the major titles, I grant Almansa (I’m not starting with the ones I recently conquered) to Berengario de León, Coimbra to Pelayo de Vic, Badajoz to Alim Hakamid, and Castelo Branco to Gutierre de Tortosa. This last courtier I had to call forth from the Invite Holy Man to Court decision, costing me the low price of 25 Piety. Don’t mind doing this, as it is. Now, time to create duchies.

CKII%2025-14.png

The Duchy of Murcia is only composed of Almansa and Murcia, the latter being the capital, naturally. While the Duchy of Portucale is composed from Braganҫa, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, and Porto, this last one being the capital. As such, I grant the duchies to Count Álvaro of Murcia and Countess Fronilda of Porto.

To warp this up, I enact the Prosper Realm ambition, and start the Summer Fair.

July 15

The ICP disbands.

July 18

The raiders in Coruña and Porto decide to leave before I can send my retinue against them.

July 30

Princess Elvira has turn twelve. With the Affectionate, Playful, and Fussy traits, I assign her Intrigue education, and betroth her to Count Arnegisel of Kleve. He’s a Karling, grandson of the late King Creat. It’s accepted on August 2.

August 5

Count Ferrand of Agen forms a Defensive Pact against me. In other news, the fair event that triggers this time around is of the performers. This time, I chose the option that grants +1 Learning.

August 9

Once again, the event chain of the Order member asking advice for poetry. As always, I chose one of the options that grant advice. As a side note, Duke João reforms the ICP.

August 11

Raiders in Santiago.

August 25

My Chancellor has improved our relations with Duke Sancho of Barcelona. As well, we got the fair event about the jugglers, and once again I chose the top option for prestige at the cost of piety.

September 3

I can now arrange the marriage between King García’s niece, Marina, and Duke Waimar of Ivrea.

September 8

CKII%2025-15.png

Now that I have a Jewish Steward again, I start to receive this event again.

September 12

The Summer Fair is over.

September 17

The marriage goes through.

September 21

Next event of the Order Poetry event chain. As always, choosing the option to have the Order safeguard it.

October 17

And the last event, being thanked, and opinion increases and all that.

November 13

The Court Chaplain converts another courtier.

December 3

Cultural Points from the Spymaster.

December 9

Burgos is the next county to gain the Prospering modifier. This is going to start to be quite worrisome for all the Hospitals and stuff I’d need to build. From what I’ve seen (just with my vassals, haven’t checked for outside my realm), AI characters don’t build stuff like Forts or Hospitals. Or at least, don’t prioritize them over Castle/City/Church upgrades. And Hospitals are quite the money sinks when it comes to improving them. Oh well…

December 31

Last events of the year, Navarra fights the raiders in Santiago. I still need to do something about that. Santiago should not be in Navarra’s hands.

And now…

CKII%2025-16.png

I’ve already obtained enough de jure land to usurp the title of the Sultanate of Andalusia! Well, Kingdom of Andalusia now. Unfortunately for me, Andalusia has Gavelkind, so the heir is not García Jr, and I can’t change that. I’ll deal with that later. For now, time to go over the consequences of taking over the title of Andalusia.

CKII%2025-17.png

Since Ali only had one Sultanate title, now that he no longer has it means the Sultanate breaks down to the Emirates that composed it. The Aslamid, Petrid, and Toghan Emirates; with one independent Sheikhdom in Algiers. Hehehe, this will make it somewhat easier to grab the land. And… oh, what this. There’s someone that has been taking Umayyad land. Who…

CKII%2025-18.png

OMG, it’s the Mali! They’ve united their corner (literally) of the game map, and are encroaching into North Africa. I don’t worry taking the rest of Iberia, but the Mali could now make advancing into North Africa itself problematic. Hmm…

And that’s it for today. Are we soon into a collision course with a new adversary? Still too soon to tell, but the answer will come eventually. Until next time!
