Phoenix Wright
Actually, it bans the entire computer network they'd have on their house. Has nothing to do with the actual computer.Because Serene could get pissed, reregister, and do it again. I doubt think anyone would want that. On a side note, suzaku and serene are ip banned from the irc chat as of last weekend. This one was actually suzaku's fault, for flaming me and one other person there (sorry i don't remember and don't have the logs). He also was registering other people's nicks for whatever retarded reason. I gave plenty fair warning by kicking at least 4 times then. I'm pretty sure this is going to be permanant ban unless anyone objects. Back to them getting banned from the forums, a shock site is certainly something that should be banned for instantly. I spoke to Suzaku in PM's he told me Serene wouldn't bother coming back
Shuuda
Because Serene could get pissed, reregister, and do it again. Serene cannot access the forum at all from what I have heard, therefore the IP ban probably prevents him/her from registering under the same IP again. Though they could do it from a different IP and what not.

They'd have to be pretty presistant to register under a different ip though. Doing that would require going somewhere else to use a computer, and chances are they'd get banned again pretty quickly. Cynthia
Serene cannot access the forum at all from what I have heard, therefore the IP ban probably prevents him/her from registering under the same IP again. Though they could do it from a different IP and what not. Internet proxies, or just changing their IP through the command line, which is pretty noticeable if you tell the IP to identify themselves, as mostly it'll link back to a place that they aren't from, (because people are dumb enough to give a fake location, and then the IP doesn't match up with claims) or even it goes back to a fake ISP, that either doesn't exist, or isn't an ISP at all. (I once saw someone try to convince me IBM.com was their ISP, of course it didn't work.) But there's a chance they could slip by if they do their homework, however they almost always slip up and say something that doesn't make sense sooner or later. Metal Rabbit
It reminds me of the KOS policy on Gfaqs. If they have any evidence that an account is being used by a KOS (Kill on Sight) person then they axe the user map. You get to be a KOS by doing something that severly threatens security, or you have hundreds of banned accounts. :
Cynthia
Gamefaq is far too touchy about everything, and the members there aren't exactly the ones you want to make friends with.

Oguma
Shock sites are taken VERY seriously. We have countless underage members here, some of whom might actually be innocent enough to click and be scarred for life.If it had just been some random hentai or porn, it would've just been a suspension. Thank God you do, my little brother goes on here a lot.

I hope by "members" you mean moderators and the like. Otherwise, that's far too broad of a group to pass any sort of judgment.
Cynthia
I hope by "members" you mean moderators and the like. Otherwise, that's far too broad of a group to pass any sort of judgment. I wouldn't say I'm passing judgment on them, but I mean the entire board, admins, moderators, and members. The members modbait people all the time just because they were offended by something that they started anyways, and want revenge, thus the report system is abused. The moderators rarely admit they are wrong, and the admins just agree with them all the time. I knew someone who was banned for saying "firetruck" on a social board because someone thought he was trolling, when the topic had no major point of discussion to begin with... If he has a dynamic ISP, he still can't get on, because I blocked the IP range. It's possible to use a proxy, but it becomes blatantly obvious when you have a different IP every day, just what you're doing.
Higgins Von Higgings
I have never seen anyone get modded unfairly, and then it was removed. I used to think that Gamfaqs mods were fair.. Then I got warned (and my post deleted) for calling someone a troll and he cussed out everyone and stuff... And then there was the time I didn't post proper spoilz warnings when posting in a topic that said "spoilers" >_>; You take things to seriously :D? I dunno how the board is these days, I'm just now starting to come here again. I had a lot of fun here, and Serene was a really cool guy.. As for how people are these days? Meh I'd have to see more than the one or two topics I have seen, though I hope everyone hasn't lost their fun side =)~

Gatrie: Guns Blazing
to be honost, after hearing the full truth on this subject, i fully support their IP ban. i never saw a shocksite but from the one described here...that creeps me out a shit-load. Although i do feel for Suzaku (kinda) Serene deserves every form of punishment that was given him. good choice mods and jyosua. i can only feel sorry for the poor fellow who DID click the link...*shudders*
