Debate Day: Favorite Part about Awakening? Least Favorite Part?

Hello everyone. So I've decided to ask a question every week now. (Ok I did two this week I'm sorry...) I'm always seeking opinions on why this is good, or this is bad, and why, because we all don't share common interest/beliefs, but sometimes we do. Thus, I want to bring certain topics into the limelight every week and discuss why you think about the topic.

This week, I want to ask a question, more or less the game that 'Saved the Franchise', Fire Emblem Awakening. What did you find enjoyable about the game? It could be everything, or it could only be the music, the sprites or a certain boss in the game. I don't mind, but I would like WHY (As backup evidence, it's always good to strengthen a claim.) Same thing with what you didn't like about the game. I would like One Pro, and One Con, if possible... even if it was the smallest detail.

Please also keep 'arguing' to a minimum, the last question I asked, it got a little 'out of control', so please try not 'go to war' with each other.

Thank you guys, and can't wait to see your opinions!

(Also Sorry if I broke any rules again Mods.... I'm still not use to forum posting...)

Honestly, I love the game to death. I love the soundtrack, 2/3 of the plot were enjoyable (a couple of the scenes made me tear up), the characters were likable, cool and funny. I enjoyed seeing Lucina's relationship with her parents. The game is easy but I never thought it was a bad thing. I love how freely we can change classes to obtain better skills for each unit. The unlimited grinding was great as I could make my units as strong as could be for post game stuff. Awakening didn't feel restrictive. The maps were interesting too. The tree map was cool, Tiki's shrine location was unique, the lava map with Yen'fay was neat to navigate through. I don't really get where the big open field complaint comes from since there weren't too many of them. I'd love to see someone actually list out what maps in Awakening were big open fields. All I can remember was chapter 1, 2, 22, and Validar's map. Hard to count Arena Ferox since that was supposed to be an arena, not much you can do with that idea. The only thing I really disliked about the game was that the grinding took forever after a certain level where you only gained like 8 exp per kill or something. I also wished that the kids played more of a role in the story other than getting separated and not hearing from them until you meet them.

Favorite part: Music. It's fantastic and among my favorite in the series.

Least favorite: Gameplay in general. Map design is really bad and simple (open maps with enemies randomly spread in it, lack of objectives, etc), pair up, robin and veteran are broken as fuck, and the game can be easily soloed by Robin + a pair up with barely any effort, even on Lunatic, which tries to bring "difficulty" through inflated stats rather than by needing tactics to overcome it.

http://www.fireemblemwod.com/fe13/guia/capitulo-7.htm 1/3 of the map is open, field, 1/3 is mountain and 1/3 is emptyness. You will stay on the open part most of the time and the rest does not really matter

And even if we exclude the maps that are literally open fields, there are still many which are extremely simplistic and straight forwards, such as 10, 15 and 18.

If you want me to give exemples of some maps I consider good in awakening, I'd say chapter 5, 6, 17 and 21

Favorite Part: Awakening's music is one of my favorites in the entire series even after going back to play the other games the only thing that rivals my love for the ost is Robin himself. I love his supports with the other shepherds and his relationship with Chrom feels so genuine. By the time the I finished the game I realized I was fully invested in this plegian amnesiac and his merry band of goofy idiots.

Least Favorite: Without question it would have to be the poor difficulty balancing. Their is no middle ground when playing this game it's either ridiculously easy or extremely reliant on rng and is so heavily stacked against you that the only hope I had to survive the first four chapters was through frederick and live on a prayer tactics. World building is also a bit lacking

Like: Around 5 characters (Nowi, Henry, Owain, Inigo, and Cynthia) are high on my series favorites list, even if I'm ambivalent to dislike on everyone else.

Dislike: Robin, the gameplay/story in general, of particular note being the poorly done difficulty balancing and mechanics balancing.

The only one I'll actually contest is Chapter 7 if only because that one is a bit reaching. The map is on a cliff side which is already a cool/unique idea. The other examples really are just open squares but your movement is severely limited in 7 so that's not really all that open.

But that's 10 maps out of like 40 or so maps so not toooo bad lmao.

Out of 26. I didn't include paralogues, otherwise the list would be bigger. That's a 40% ratio which is pretty bad.

Like I said, even among the maps that aren't literally textbook definitions of open fields, many are simplistic and straight forwards.

Favorite part: the characters, music.

Least favorite part: the gameplay (not counting the DLC maps, which were actually good challenges)

Awakening holds a special place in my heart for being my first FE game.

Alright, I'll bite, though this probably belongs in the Awakening boards.  Have I officially become "that guy"?

Favorite part: The fact that it's so newbie friendly.  There's a lot I like about Awakening, but the fact that it was able to bring me into the series without much hassle is its biggest boon, and it allows me to overlook balancing and map issues.

Least favorite part: Children.  Mostly the way they're implemented.  Honestly, I prefer it most when it's a regular chronological transference of control between the 1st gen and 2nd gen like in Genealogy.  Aside from Lucina, the kids just don't really seem to fit in the picture all that well.  I mean, at least they have a real stake in the story unlike Fates children, and DLC gave them an actually good story, but they just feel like background noise compared to their parents in the main story.

I also don't like the basic as hell inheritance system or the fact that the kids are so obviously 90% the kid of one parent to the point where it's even lampshaded in Laurent's supports with whoever his father is.  And it's even worse that Fates took in both of these elements from the game for its own children system.

The one area where I felt this game shines above other FEs is certainly the characters. At first, they all seem like generic anime tokens, but in every support conversation, I learned something new about them. It definitely gives me the incentive to replay in order to get all the support conversations I missed. Many people say that the game had too many supports, but I strongly disagree. There may be one or two characters I'm not particularly fond of, and the villains (aside from maybe Gangrel and a couple of minor bosses) weren't too great, but I still consider the Awakening cast to be my favorite.

And yeah, definitely the "difficulty" was the worst part of the game. Success in Lunatic+ is not dependant on tactics, skills, or preparation, it depends on how many Luna+ enemies the game decides to throw at you.

Favorite: Robin and the tactician class. A lot of people object to him because he "stole Chrom's spotlight" but I enjoyed having a smart, tactical person be my avatar because that's who I literally am, the tactician. I enjoy the look and weapons of the class too. Robin is effectively a mage lord, which is pretty cool.

Least favorite: Most class outfits. With the exception of maybe Chrom, Robin and Pegasus Knights, the majority of the class outfits are atrocious. Shout out to toilet cavaliers and heroes.

Best Part: Being a celebration of all of FE.

Wurst: Plot post Gangrel, and particularly post Walhart. It being impossible to get lots of skills without breaking your stats. Difficulty is also wacky. Maps are quite plain too.

Sully disembowels her foes. Enemies like to dump once they're in on the Stahl, but he just flushes his worries away.

Best Part: The characters, this being my first FE game it provided an insight of the various archetypes in the series.

Least favorite: The difficultly scaling, I want someday to complete the game on Lunatic+, but the journey getting there will be frustrating with hours of grinding.
