Humanoid Posted April 16, 2019 Share Posted April 16, 2019 It's interesting - I don't really feel this one either and I think there tends to be a pattern. While in general I'm pretty indifferent towards the FEH OCs, in the comic I think they're almost necessary to provide a fresh take. Where the OCs are not around, the presence of some FEH-specific mechanics sort of functions in the same way, like Lissa's lightning trap for instance. Where none of those elements exist, the comics tend to fall into re-hashing obvious traits from the same old one-note or two-note characters from most of Fire Emblem's history. I'm guessing it's somewhat of a matter of creative freedom, or lack thereof. When using the OCs, the writers probably feel a lot more freedom in characterisation and aren't afraid to play around with FEH canon a bit. When dealing with older characters, it's almost if they're afraid of alienating people if they do anything other that depict them in the most obvious way.
