The characters The Neverending Dream + maps in general save a few like 16 and 24 Roy is one of my favorite lords in his supports. Which three things do you dislike the most? Could Roy's promotion be moved up like five chapters? Please? Supports are super slow and the 120 point limit is dumb Wolt should be better as a unit. Wolt should be the best unit in the game! Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is Sword Emblem? No, Swords have no good 2 range. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is the FE game with the most useful prepromoted units? Maybe not most useful, but more needed than the norm. No prepromote in FE6 is competing with Seth, like, ever. But you need prepromotes in FE6 more than you need Seth in FE8. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 went one step back in terms of game mechanics after the release of FE5? I actually like the relative simplicity after the more experimental Jugdral duology. What's your favorite support conversation? Roy/Wolt What's your preferred ship for Roy? Shanna What's your opinion of Roy? I like him, overall, he's tied with Micaiah for my favorite lord and second favorite character overall. His writing isn't perfect, he definitely needs more showing and less telling, but I do appreciate that his supports communicate that this is still a 15 year old going through a lot of shit a 15 year old should not be going through, while still letting Roy be competent at his position of being a leader. As a unit, please let him promote earlier and he's golden, kthx bye What's your opinion of the story? It's not complicated, it gets its job done. It could definitely be more though. One issue I do have and would change is how we learn the stuff in Chapter 24 about the Scouring. This really shouldn't have dumped on us all at once. Spread the information through the Gaidens or something. What's your preferred team for the final chapter? Roy, Fae, Wolt, Shanna, Lugh, Larum, Clarine, Thea, Raigh, and Lilina I guess? I was posting on the IGN Fire Emblem boards and saw people talking about it. At the time I was basically only aware that Fire Emblems outside of Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones existed because of Smash. I got curious and played the game ASAP. Do you own a copy or do you have a rom? ROM. Did you play it before or after FE7? After. Was it your first FE game? No Which is your preferred difficulty? I like both Normal and Hard. I tend to play on Normal more, just because I do prefer to just use units I like as opposed to the most efficient. Which is a lot easier on Normal. How often have you beaten this game yet? I've beaten it. And I've beaten it probably 4 or 5 times. If you play on a rom, have you used several patches to this game yet? Yes, I used whatever translation was around back in the mid-00s. It was pretty complete, and I'm probably still using that translation, though I did see that some people at Serenes just made a better one. Have you unlocked all gaidens yet? Yes. Have you played both routes (Lalum / Elphin + Ilia / Sacae) yet? Yes. Have you recruited all characters yet? Yes. Have you seriously used each character yet? I've never seriously used Barth, Dorothy, Wolt, Bartre or Sophia yet, to the best of my knowledge. Lalum or Elphin route? Lalum. Ilia or Sacae? Sacae. What's your favorite chapter? Can't say one jumps to mind. I never been a huge fan of how FE6 did a lot of its maps. Who's your favorite playable unit personalitywise? Hugh. Purple haired mages always seem to be my favorite characters. Who's your favorite playable unit gameplaywise? Probably Dieck or Miledy. Who's usually your MVP? Miledy. Who's your favorite antagonist? I really only remember Narcian, Mardock, Zephiel, Jann and Idounn. Of them, I probably remember wanting to tear Narcian apart the most, so probably him. What's your favorite map theme? As with the FE5 questionnaire, I really don't pay much attention to the music in FE games. I find it mostly unremarkable. What's your favorite battle theme? See above. The unit balance is AWFUL Limited promotion items Objective and map design Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is Sword Emblem? Mostly, yes. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is the FE game with the most useful prepromoted units? Yes, but almost entirely because of how scared the game is to let you promote umpromoted units. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 went one step back in terms of game mechanics after the release of FE5? I'd say it was more than one step back, honestly. What's your favorite support conversation? Probably the Lalum/Garret support chain. What's your preferred ship for Roy? Lilina. As I suspect is the opinion of most people who played FE7 first. What's your opinion of Roy? He's kinda boring. He's a bad unit for 90% of the game, and I don't like that he's effectively his own tactician. Tactician/Lord relationships have been strong ever since FE1/3. What's your opinion of the story? It's a retread of Marth's story, specifically FE3. It's a bit lazy, but it's slightly more fleshed out, I guess. What's your preferred team for the final chapter? Roy and Miledy. The rest is typically whoever was doing well for me. Usually Dieck or Rutger alongside them. Lance problems are overstated, and magic dominates pretty well. Plus swords tend to drop off a little towards the end once wyvern hell happens. From what I've seen, 7 and PoR's prepromotes are universally much better units, although 6 does have some good ones. I'd argue that 6 was a much needed return to basics after 5 when hogwild with the experimental mechanics. What's your favorite support conversation? Too many to list, since 6 has a lot of good ones. FE6 is my favourite challenging FE game, so I don't want it to pull its punches. And it's not that bad if you know what to expect. ;) How often have you beaten this game yet? Uhhh... 6 or 7 times, I think. If you play on a rom, have you used several patches to this game yet? Yep, both the old translation patch and the new one by Gringe, as well as a randomized playthrough and a Reversed Recruitment run. Have you unlocked all gaidens yet? Naturally. Have you played both routes (Lalum / Elphin + Ilia / Sacae) yet? Yep. Have you recruited all characters yet? Yes. I always go for full recruitment. Have you seriously used each character yet? No. I think the only Knight I've ever promoted was Bors, for example. Lalum or Elphin route? Lalum, even though I like old Bartre. I just like Lalum's maps better. Ilia or Sacae? Either. I like Dayan better than Yuno, but fighting nomads can be annoying. What's your favorite chapter? Chapter 11 on Lalum's route is very satisfying to beat, because it's one of the few maps that keep the pressure up for longer than the first few turns. Who's your favorite playable unit personalitywise? Errr... Might be Treck, just because I love that they put a stoner in a FE game. :D Hugh is pretty cool, too. Who's your favorite playable unit gameplaywise? Fir! I'm aware that she's mostly a lesser Rutger, but it's very satisfying to train her, at least on HM where her stats are really good for a Lv.1 unit and she gains XP super fast. Who's usually your MVP? Marcus in the earlygame, Milady in the mid- and lategame, maybe Allen (who I have more success with than Lance) over the course of the whole game. Who's your favorite antagonist? Idoun, if you can call her that. I like that she's hyped up to be that massive thread to humankind, but turns out to be a mere tool to Jahn and Zephiel. What's your favorite map theme? Dunno. FE music stays mostly in the background of my mind when playing, so I can't even name the themes. What's your favorite battle theme? same. Which three things do you like the most of this game? The way (most) prepromotes are balanced. The way it creates difficulty despite relatively simple mechanics - mostly enemy placements and just High Numbers, and only few "Gotcha" moments. I know that people shit on it because the story is too similar to FE1/3, but personally, I like the throwback and how it occasionally screws with your expectations (for example, Perceval being recruitable despite being the most camus Camus since Camus himself, or Idoun not being the evil mastermind) Which three things do you dislike the most? The way growth units are balanced. The limit on total support points per chapter. I'm not a big fan of most gaiden map gimmicks. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is Sword Emblem? Nope. Swords are the most versatile weapon type, but both axes and lances are still useful if you can make use of the weapon triangle. And technically, Anima is a better weapon type than swords, it's just that there's no outstanding anima mage in the game. ;) Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is the FE game with the most useful prepromoted units? Might be. They're not as overpowered as Titania, FE7!Marcus, or Seth, but most of them are really useful for a limited time. No, I prefer simplistic mechanisms to 1035 different possible outcomes of a single fight because of proc skills and other chance-based mechanisms. What's your favorite support conversation? Treck's dream of being a horse is pretty fun :D Otherwise, I like how Fir tries to overcome her social awkwardness, but unfortunately tries to make friends with antisocial Shin or Rutger. What's your preferred ship for Roy? I don't really care, but if you put a gun to my head, I'd probably say Shanna. What's your opinion of Roy? I like him. Good stand-in for the player, relatively subdued so that the focus is more on the grander scheme of things... Gameplay-wise, he would have been fine with an earlier promotion - his earlygame is passable and his midgame (i.e. western isles) actually quite good if you've trained him. What's your opinion of the story? Decent, like most FE stories. ;) It's nothing too risque, but it kept me entertained during my first playthrough. I like the characters, too, but unfortunately, unlocking many supports is way to tedious. What's your preferred team for the final chapter? Roy, Fae, Fir, Milady, Saul, Niime, Allen, Lugh (or Lilina), Shin, Lalum/Elphin. How would you rank the story from 1 to 10? 7. Enjoyable, but not outstanding. How would you rank the gameplay from 1 to 10? 8 or 8.5. Flawed, but I can usually ignore them or work around them (like not bothering with supports, or being able to use all the units) How would you rank the game overall from 1 to 10? 8. Would you like to see a remake of this game? Honestly, I'm fine with the game as is. I wouldn't mind a remake, but I don't really need one. Narcian, I love this guy, he's kind of meant as comical relief but I enjoy his arc, where he diligates his work all the time, only to be punished for it and trying in vain to regain his position. What's your favorite map theme? What's your favorite battle theme? I'll just give my favourite overall soundtrack, which is "beneath a new light" Which three things do you like the most of this game? Just overall enjoyable difficulity, the game is never a cakewalk (except during endgame of course) but it's also not unfair or extremely brutal and when you die it feels like your own mistake. It was the game which introduced support convo's, which are great. You keep getting new good units throughout the game Which three things do you dislike the most? The game is kind of basic, the mechanics that are there are good, and most mechanics that are there would fall under the "basic fire emblem experience" but it doesn't really have it's own unique mechanics, (like capturing, 3rd tier classes etc.) Whilst the game is pretty balanced, there are also quite a lot of very bad units, like Wendy and Sophia. I understand that not everyone has to be on the same level, they are just so bad it's not even funny. At least give them a niche or something. I like the ambush spawns sometimes, but there are also times where it's just stupid. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is Sword Emblem? No, whilst axe units are mostly bad, paladins with good skill can make great use of killer/hand axes. Also, lances are quite good as well. So whilst I do agree that considering the shaky hitrates in this game swords are very good, I wouldn't use the term "sword emblem". Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is the FE game with the most useful prepromoted units? Yes, almost all of them are great. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 went one step back in terms of game mechanics after the release of FE5? I'm not sure I'd call it a step back. Yes, they scrapped a bunch of mechanics to make the game more basic. I have mixed feelings about this, on the one hand, by going down to the core mechanics you get down to "pure" gameplay, on the other hand it causes the game to lose some depth. What's your favorite support conversation? The one between Yodel and Niime. I like Igrene and Astor as well, but I just love seeing a bit of the past of Yodel and Niime. What's your preferred ship for Roy? Lilina of course. Any other option is heresy. What's your opinion of Roy? I like him. As a unit he's pretty bad (though he's decent in earlygame due to rapier and lategame due to binding blade, his midgame is awful due to swordlock, low mov and late promotion). But this makes sense, he's the leader, the tactician, not a warrior. What's your opinion of the story? The story is very basic and uninspired. I like the characters though, so I'll rate it a 7 What's your preferred team for the final chapter? Roy, Dancer, a bunch of cavs (Alan, Lance, Percival usually) and fliers (Tate/Shanna + Milady) and some staffbots (Yodel, Niime and some other). How would you rank the story from 1 to 10? The archer prepromotes are useless except on one chapter that pretty much requires them and even then, there are ways to deal with the chapter without using them. Cecilla can't possibly be any better than Clarine except with her staff and weapon rank and Bartre's low skill isn't adequate enough to be reliable on chapter 21. The only useful prepromotes imo are Marcus, Percival and Niime but that's due to how unbalanced the entire cast is most of the time. 25. Who's your favorite playable unit personalitywise? Sophia is my favorite character in the game :D Who's your favorite playable unit gameplaywise? Miledy is such a fun unit to use, I also like Rutger ability to just don't die. Who's usually your MVP? Rutger in the Early Game; Rutger, Alan/Noah and Miledy in the mid-game; it late-game depends a lot of the circunsntaces (in two playthroughs Sophia actually ended up being Late-Game MVP). Overall my MVP is Rutger. Who's your favorite antagonist? Idoun, but I have a special place for Narcian's jammyness. What's your favorite map theme? I don't remember it's name, I think the one that appears in the Chapter 21 or 22? What's your favorite battle theme? Shaman in the Darkness Which three things do you like the most of this game? The map design, the intuitive UI and Sophia. Which three things do you dislike the most? The Roy's lategame; the slow supports, and the game's weird balance (it's mostly okay in Normal Mode outside of Sophia). Would you agree with the statement that FE6 is Sword Emblem? What it means exactly? If you are talking about the "swords are better than the other weapons" I think FE4 fits more this description, but FE6 also applies to a lesser-extent. Would you agree with the statement that FE6 went one step back in terms of game mechanics after the release of FE5? I think that the FE7 ones and Conquest ones are overall more useful. There’s probably some other ones as well. Shit unit, interesting character that gets shafted by GBA supports being a pain (especially this game) What's your opinion of the story? Liked it, no parts on replay do I go “wow, that was stupid” like some other games What's your preferred team for the final chapter? Only played twice, but Roy, Miledy, Fae, Shin, Percival, Clarine, Niime, and Rutger got on both times I played if I remember correctly. I’ll probably avoid Clarine for my current playthrough How would you rank the story from 1 to 10? 7/10 fairly standard How would you rank the gameplay from 1 to 10? 9/10 if player hit rates were higher it would probably be 10/10 but as of right now I sometimes struggle to think of reliable strategies because the hit on the strategy is so bad How would you rank the game overall from 1 to 10? 9/10 very solid probably my favorite FE game so far Would you like to see a remake of this game?
