"An armored knight from Calphy. Dreams of fighting on the front lines, but is often assigned to castle defense."

Stats:

And like that, Arden comes slowly moving, carrying some of, if not, the highest hp stat in the game. In fact, he is like a lot of characters in Fire Emblem Fates, in which they embody the best and worst aspects of his class. His hp and def are at an all time high, his atk is mediocre and his spd and res are abysmal. He also comes with a special skill, follow-up ring, which basically allows him to quad with his vanilla Brave Sword. Anyways, on to the builds:

Bold=Best option

Underline=Budget Option

Frontline Fighter (Wo Dao)

Spoiler

The goal of this build is to turn Arden into an offensive nuke, taking full advantage of Arden's follow-up ring.

Weapon: Wo Dao+

Special: Moonbow/Noontime

Assist: Swap/Pivot

A Slot Skill: Death Blow/Fire Boost

B Slot Skill: Follow-Up Ring

C Slot Skill: Depends on Team

SS: def+1, atk+1, Brash Assult Seal, Panic Ploy Seal

Now, as for why I suggest something's:

Moonbow: This is recommended because of how Wo Dao functions. Noontime is an option, but should only be used if you want him to be self sustaining.

Death Blow/Fire Boost: Both give the same amount, but both work for different reasons. Death Blow works best if Arden is used as a player phase unit, but Fire Boost works best if Arden has a way to self sustain himself

Follow-Up Ring: The reason why Arden is so good. It allows him to get Moonbow/Noontime during on round of combat, on both phases

C Slot Skill: As always, it depends on Team. But for mixed teams, Panic Ploy and Drive Def are his best options.

SS: Brash Assult is his best deal because of how it works. With the fully upgraded Brash Assult seal, Arden will trigger the effect once the requirements for Follow-Up ring are lost. But, Panic Ploy,  atk+1, and def+1 are all good substitutes as well.

Brave Battler (Brave Sword)

Spoiler

A build that involves the ability to quad, and this build also takes advantage of the follow-up ring, but in a different way.

Weapon: Brave Sword+

Special: Bonfire/Ignis/Aether/Noontime

A Slot Skill: Death Blow/Fire Boost, Earth Boost/Sturdy Blow

B Slot Skill: Follow-Up Ring/Bold Fighter/Wary Fighter

C Slot Skill: Depends on team

SS: Brash Assult Seal, atk+1, def+1, Panic Ploy

Now as for I suggest these things:

Bonfire/Ignis: While both are amazing, especially considering Arden's defense, but Bonfire is an option I consider a bit better as it can easily activate on both player and enemy phase, while Ignis only activates easily on player phase, unless the enemy has a brave weapon.

Fire Boost/Death Blow: Fire boost and Death Blow work the same way as on the Wo Dao Build, but there are more options this time. Earth Boost helps Arden's defensive power, and Sturdy Blow gives Arden a boost to his atk and def.

Follow-Up Ring: Do I need to explain why Follow-Up ring is so good with Brave Sword. It allows Arden to quad attack with his abysmal speed. Bold fight is a good secondary option as it allows him to charge Aether, Bonfire, and Ignis quickly as well as getting Noontime shenanigans to happen. Sadly, it isn’t as recommended as Arden becomes worthless on enemy phase, which he gets left in the range of enemies, don’t lie guys, that happens a lot, but follow-up ring fixes that.

C Slot Skill: His C Slot skill depends on the team, but Panic Ploy and Drive Def are his best options.

SS: Brash Assult is very good, but Panic Ploy, def+1, and atk+1 are also good substitutes.

Ruby Defender (Ruby Sword)

Spoiler

The goal of this build is for Arden to be an enemy phase anti green unit. This build can also potentially take on red units.

Weapon: Ruby Sword+

Special: Bonfire

Assist: Swap/Pivot

A Slot Skill: Distant Counter

B Slot Skill: Follow-up ring/Vengful Fighter

C Slot Skill: Depends on team

This build is very simple, yet expensive due to needing a Hector. D.C. + Follow-Up ring is a very good combo, but sadly can't be used much do to the unit the skills is locked on.

Slayer of Thots (Slaying Edge)

Spoiler

This build is basically an alternate wo dao build, but do to the way a Slaying Edge works, it becomes a bit different

Weapon: Slaying Edge

Special: Ignis/Bonfire

Assist: Swap/Pivot

A Slot Skill: Death Blow/Fire Boost/Earth Boost

B Slot Skill: Follow-up Ring/Vengful Fighter/Bold fighter

C Slot Skill: Drive Def/Flexible

SS: Panic Ploy

The reason why I’ve suggested so many things is because this build is very flexible, allowing him to either be a PP unit, a mixed phase unit, or a EP unit. Fire boost and earth boost work for any build, Bold fighter and death Blow are for pp, Follow-up ring is for a mixed phase build, and and vengeful fighter is for a ep build. As for the SS Slot and the c Slot, both are flexible, as it depends on the team.

Safe in a Castle (Safeguard)

Spoiler

With the recent addition of Safeguard+ as a new toy for sword users, Arden is a great user of it, due to his very high defenses.

Weapon: Safeguard+ (+def)

Special: Bonfire

Assist: Pivot/Swap

A Slot Skill: Sturdy Stance/Earth Boost/Steady Stance/Steady Breath/Sturdy Stance

B Slot Skill: Vengful Fighter/Follow-up Ring

C Slot Skill: Drive Def/Flexible

Sacred Seal: Panic Ploy/Close Def/Drive Def or Atk/Fortress Def

@Poimagic: Bold Fighter 3 will let Arden proc Aether if he makes the attack even if his foe can not counterattack. It's good for a more Player Phase-oriented Arden, especially if people want to proc Aether and heal up the damage. Or better yet you can double Noontime for more heals with Bold Fighter 3.
