Attention: All Digital animators, Music Composers, Artists and Designers alike! I am apart of a small group who is developing a Fire Emblem Hack/ROM, titled Fire Emblem: New Moon, run by a friend of mine. We have some progress in, but we are in the dark with most of these things. So, we require assistance! If you are good at any of these things, we would like your help! Your work will pay off, although we aren’t really paying, but w

how do you have half a writer? how is hiring when no one gets paid? why is the only information on this hack you are going to give "its based on the fe16 leaks"?

1. It's a figure of speech.

2. It's not 'hiring', we phrased that wrong. It's 'accepting volunteers'

3. Do you REALLY want a massive info dump in here, when I could so cleanly and elegantly link to the important information?

And its No Pay job.

I would like to suggest you change your title. Otherwise this just sounds like another "for exposure" post on Twitter lol.

And people here are competent enough to digest hack information. If anything, we should be afraid that people will tear apart your structure.

Recruitment for any hack/project is generally showing off what you have first and people naturally contribute. Getting it off the ground is *THE HARDEST* part of this. You either get it off the ground first, or you actually hire people for monetary gain. People won't natrually contribute off some vague info bit of FE16 leaks.

Hey, I didn't make the topic, so it's up to Erren to change it. And is something PHYSICALLY PREVENTING YOU from clicking that link?

Anyway...

In the world of Vrancia, there exists two races. The humans, and the Kibaire, a race of monster-like beings. In the past, the two races got along, but 500 years ago, the stage for war was set. The Kibaire first held the upper hand with their monstrous strength. But then, when all hope seemed lost for humankind, one single human noble named Adam, and his allies were blessed by the God of Light, Samael. With the divine strength that Samael gave the warriors, the Kibaire were forced back into the dark forests they called their home.

500 years have passed. The ancient holy war threatens to rise again, as a human rebellion spurred on by Kibaire in an attempt to regain their power rages across the land. In this desperate struggle, twin heroes rise, one the light's sworn protector, the other the light's greatest foe. Will the shadows triumph as the bastard prince(ss) Dracul plunges humanity into chaos for the sake of their family and friends? Or will the light, lead by Alain, a holy knight, rise and defeat the monstrous shadows?

Find out in this epic struggle where light and shadow continuously clash, where the meaning of 'righteous' and 'monstrous' change with every battle, in...

...there, you happy?

The more you post here, the less compatible your attitudes seem to coincide with the community's hacking culture.

For people who seem enthusiastic and want help, you seem to only want to draw help from more experienced members with only a *VERY* vague idea of how to manage your project.

Let's just get this out of the way:

You will not attract more experienced hackers/artists to your project without incentive. We have seen hundreds, if not thousands of projects come and go with grand ambitions. Two paragraphs to attract investment into your project with an additionally tacked on "you happy?" is not anywhere near the type of management any competent hacker in the community will want to involve themselves with.

If you truly believe the concept of your hack is an exception to the thousands of ideas that fall flat on their faces in this forum, you must show us.

Ask yourself:

What specific things will you need to modify for your hack? Is it a reskin? Is it a custom event? Do you have any ideas about the type of units/archetypes your characters will have? What is the timeline schedule do you plan with this project? Are there resources that are already readily available that you can use to prevent your project team from tiring themselves out reinventing the wheel with? Will you be using FE6, FE7, or FE8 as the base engine? Why?

All of these things you can determine without a single bit of knowledge of FE ROM hacking.

Oh, I should mention: I'm not actually HACKING this. I'm not even this project's leader, that distinction goes to @Hawkatana. I'm just a designer and writer.

You're right, that 'you happy' was snappy and rude. I apologize.

To be as blunt as possible, these topics are the ones that experienced hackers laugh at.

If you want help, post your experience, skills, examples of things you've done, etc.

If you have a team, list your team and do the same for them.

If you have an idea, pitch it to us like you're actually asking someone to publish your story.

If you can't do any of these, you'll never finish your project.

Attention: All Coders, Composers, Artists and Designers alike!

I see new faces talk about "coders" a lot. Do you mean people who know Thumb Assembly? Maybe someone who knows GBAFE eventing?

I think there are less talented music-oriented hackers than there are assembly hackers, so good luck with composers.

What kind of artists? Portraits, battle spites, weapon icons, etc. are all pretty commonly changed in hacks thanks to easy-to-use tools, but could you work on more complicated things? Some tasks require knowledge outside of graphics themselves.

"Designer" is such a general term that it's meaningless. What do you need designed?

You need to be very clear with what you can and cannot do. How much do you know about hacking? What tools are you comfortable with? Are you confident that you can solve problems that will arise? Truthfully, the most important thing for a hacker isn't experience with a tool or knowledge of some task. You must be able to solve problems, debug your work, and hunt for information.

This is exactly where it'd go. If you can't be straightforward to the people you ask for help from, none will ever help.

You wouldn’t go to a potential investor to get him or her to invest in your product/project without a working prototype or something; this is no different. Like everyone else in the thread said, come with a working example. People are more likely to help if there is greater success of it getting off the ground. Having anything goes a long way.

Here. Have our ENTIRE PLOT GOOGLE DOC.

Prologue - An Uneasy Disunion

The starting game begins with a “cutscene” of a picture showing a large battle between two forces, with a text at the bottom of the screen reading, “Champion…. Champion…. O champion and knight of the Order | Come to us in a dire time of need. | Help us, help us all…. | please.” The scene then moves to a dialogue sequence of Alain waking up with a shock, before being greeted by Huon who then shortly after scolds him for tardy waking. Alain apologizes, before gathering his supplies and heading out into the courtyard to see his superior, Papest Grunta, who then makes a sarcastic remark about his tardiness before giving him a lecture on the importance of timeliness.

After this, Grunta now tells Alain the sparring session will begin, before the map sequence opens up to begin the meat of the chapter. The prologue will serve as a tutorial to get the player familiar with the basics of Fire Emblem, as Grunta lectures alain on the basics of fighting. Alain is still beaten by Grunta, however, and another dialogue ensues where Alain expresses shame of defeat, before he is reassured by Grunta that he will become a good warrior someday.

Shortly after, an assassin pops out from the trees and strikes Grunta. Though wounded, the Papest still manages to slay the assailant before more masked men appear from the trees. The map sequence opens back up to see the two surrounded by enemy units. The following part of the prologue expands upon basic FE gameplay to teach things like archers, magic, and the weapon triangle. Once Alain and Grunta fight off the assassins, their captain laughs in his dying breaths before telling them of a “grand rebellion”. Grunta, however, is still badly wounded in the fight, and several guards now have to rescue the two fighters. The plot advances from here.

Human Chapter 1: Through the Looking Glass

Later in the day, news reaches the church that a rebellion has risen in western Argas and on the island of Anglemor, delivered by Alain’s friend and vassal Jean. After much discussion amongst the Holy Council, Special Inquisitor Alannia tasks Alain, Huon and Jean with initial scouting on fthe farthest edge of the rebellion, a village named Roarch that lies near Ft. Aragorn. They find the village down but not out, being assaulted by a group of vicious rebels called the Herzstahlen. The village has some help in the form of two mercenaries: Ludger, a mage, and Ashin, a sword fighter. Additionally, a cleric named Eden is assisting the two.

At the beginning of the map sequence, an armored knight reveals himself on the other end of the village, and taunts about having reduced the village to cinders. When Alain asks him of his name (seeing people and talking to them from across the map is apparently a series staple), the rogue knight reveals himself to be Godfrey, who then challenges the prince to a “spar among the parties”, to which Alain accepts, beginning the battle.

The major things to note regarding this battle are that the three mercenary units are green during the battle until Alain recruits them, the hunters will hide behind ruins of houses or buildings which prevent Jean from being able to shoot through them, and on higher difficulties, some of the enemies will have an anti-horse weapon to stop Huon in his tracks. Furthermore, Godfrey has a skill known as “Lumberjack” which allows him to wield axes despite being a traditionally lance class. On lesser difficulties, Godfrey will have an iron axe and a hand axe in the higher ones. The mission is to slay 60% of the enemies on the map.

After the battle, Godfrey will retreat reluctantly before jeering the Templar order that he will return. Alain attempts to make pursuit, but is soon stopped by Huon, who tells him that tending to the village is more important than a rivalry. Alain agrees, before seeing the mercenaries if he hired them. If not, Alain, simply gives a monologue regarding the destruction that a civil war would cause, and how he would be willing to compromise with the rebels to prevent such war, before the three head off to Ft. Gothfyre to rest. If he does recruit the mercs, Ashin and Ludger will agree to join the Templars for a price, while Eden agrees with Alain in his monologue, and volunteers to join the Templars. The six head off to Ft. Gothfyre to rest.

Kibaire Chapter 1: High Voltage

In the castle-city of Covsasnia, the bastard prince(ss) of the current Tzar, Dracul, meets up with his friend/retainer, Dorinic. They discuss the political climate of the city, as Tzar Vladimir’s health is apparently worsening, and the grooming of Garland/Ekatrina, the crown prince(ss) for the throne is speeding up. Meanwhile, Yuri, a young noble, is eagerly trying to put himself in the good graces of the King so he can become Garland/Ekatrina’s advisor, despite the mud on his family’s name (his great-grandfather had relations with a human, how shocking!). Dracul is summoned to the throne by his/her father on a mission of great importance: He is to work at assisting and inciting a human rebellion that will leave the humans weak and open to an Kibaire invasion. Dracul asks if he can have some assistance, and Vladimir gives him the assistance of the twin mages Mirelia and Miruna, as well as Dorinic. The four leave to head to the kingdom city of Cael, a port town near Ft. Cael.

Upon arrival, the four see that the town is lightly guarded despite the signs of a looming war, and that a rather large pack of rebels are already in the city and about ready to raid it from within. The leader of the raiders in this chapter will be a myrmidon named Klinson whose appearance begins with a scene of him burning a farm and announcing the raid to bring down the Kingdom of Argas. With haste, Dracul changes plans from being sleepers to assassinating the Duke of Cael.

The battle part of the chapter begins with a show of the rival units mentioned in the final leak. The rebels in this chapter will have the guards as their main targets, but will also attack Dracul upon seeing. Furthermore, if any member of Dracul’s party is spotted by the guard. (I.e. come into the movement range of a guard) a signal will be sounded which will then summon a group of priests armed with Light magic into the map, so it is best to maintain secrecy in the battle. Enemy units will consist of typical Argasian troops - soldiers, archers, and some calvary and clerics. While the rival units will consist of typical rebel troops - barbarians, fighters, hunters, and some thieves. The goal of the map is to slay Duke Cael (a Mage), and on harder difficulties do it within a set number of turns.

If Dracul or his party can slay Duke Cael without being spotted, Klinson will escape admist the chaos of the scene, and end up boarding Dracul’s ship.  He will then be captured by Dorinic, and later convinced to join the Kibaire party. If Dracul or his party is spotted before killing Duke Cael, Kilnson will be captured by the guards and then executed. In either case, the Kibaire will be able to escape among the smoldering ruins of the town, leaving a leaderless local government to clean up the act.

Human Chapter 2: As You Like It

In the days following the infamous battle of Cael, a wave of paranoia sweeps over the kingdom. If a supposedly secure town could be ransacked so suddenly and swiftly, then who among the kingdom is safe? Furthermore, the rumors and sightings of what many claim to be Kibaire only compound the dread that many Argasians feel.

Papest Grunta summons swiftly his Holy Council in emergency, before Alannia informs the rest of the council that Fort Charlesvick has fallen to the rebels in Anglemor. The Councilmen, grieved by now four aggressions related to the rebellion, are all poised to see Argas launch a full-scale campaign against the rebellion’s efforts. High Priest Indol thinks that they should try and end it peacefully, but Alannia and Holy Knight Klaus state that is an impossibility with the fury and anger being displayed by the rebels. Meanwhile, Post General Ardain concedes the possibility of just buying the rebels off, but High Guildmaster Keira states that is only a temporary solution at best. Papest Grunta agrees with Alannia and Klaus, but understands Indol’s concerns and states that the war must be won as swiftly and bloodlessly as possible. However, it appears that Grunta may not live to see the end of the war, as the wounds dealt to him by the assassins only worsen with time, and some of the best priests seem to be unable to heal it with their staves. After a heated debate concerning the rebellion, Grunta concedes with Alannia’s plan to seize Fort Nashvolk and the city of Richmane as quickly as possible, and use Alain as the centerpiece of this campaign. Holy Knight Klaus agrees to gather his own militia to stem rebel efforts from within the kingdom, so as to prevent what happened back in Cael. Papest Grunta is pleased by the ideas brought forth by Alannia and Klaus, and dismisses the meeting. Later that night, Post General Ardain, angered by the outcome of the meeting, plots his own mini-rebellion to sabotage Argasian efforts, and elongate the war. Meanwhile, Alannia writes Alain a letter telling him of the situation, asking him to finish his business in the region and head north to Ft. Cael, and assist Klaus’ efforts in squashing out the rebel cells in that area.  She also sends him a second Rapier.

Alain, after resting at Mt. Gothfyre, then receives a tip from a generic soldier NPC that the rebels have partnered with bandits and are using a mountain hideout. The sextet heads out to the base to flush the rebels out and rescue some captives. When they get there, a young Thief named Poppi (nicknamed.... Poppy) asks for help, as she used to work for them but changed her mind, and wants to help.

Inside, aside from all the guards and rebels, Gwendolyn is working for the rebels for the money and to keep an eye on Poppy, while two fighters, Adoh and Morag, are imprisoned in the cells. During the battle, Poppy can convince Gwen to switch sides, while the fighters mention the people who can recruit them (Adoh is a mercenary who used to work with Ashin, while Morag is a Templar who was in Jean’s squadron a while back).

The map outline is that of a typical cave. Narrow, dark passageways with occasional stops for a locked door to Adoh and Morag’s cells, rooms with treasure chests, linking rooms that join parts of passageways, the boss room, and reinforcement rooms. Some areas will be a little more open with light around them, so you can see what is going on in those “air pockets” across the map. Some notable treasures include a Blue Gem, 6000 Gold, a Handaxe, an Elfire tome, and a Lockpick. Generic enemies will be typical rebel troops, but this time with the addition of a few rogue soldiers to add to the difficulty. On higher difficulties, these rogue soldiers will be armed with steel lances and short spears.

The boss of the level will be a Fighter named Goldburg, and the objective is to route the enemy.

Following the battle, if Morag is rescued from his cage, he will thank the party amorously before explaining that he was on the track of the bandit group for some days before his platoon turned and captured him. If Adoh is rescued, he will thank Ashin for freeing him, and offer to become an apprentice of the Templar Order. If Gwendolyn is recruited, she will still watch over Poppy due to motherly instinct after learning that Poppy is an orphan, and both of them will join the order. In any case, Goldburg, captured instead of killed, explains that he was hired by a “strange looking (wo)man with funny hair and sharp teeth.” Alain immediately is stunned, and now is confirmed of his suspicions that the Kibs are behind the rebellion. The party heads north to Cael, but this time more wary. Alain pens a letter to Alannia, confirming that Kibaire are involved in the rebellion. Meanwhile, Dracul will open up another front of the war.

Kibaire Chapter 2: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Shortly after the group escapes (with help from the ship’s captain, Merman Konnor, lookout Edna and navigator Erina), Dracul reads the second part of his instructions, which are to head to the island of Anglemor and perform a hit-and-run attack on Ft. Galli. Upon arrival of the fort by night, they see the fortress is very well guarded to the point that even the most clever and mighty attack on the fort would hardly dent its defenses. With this in mind, Erina dons a cloak and sneaks into the occupied village of Bunchesta, before wounding a lieutenant with a knife and declaring war on the Argasian Kingdom. Soon enough, the civilians hear of the war cry and begin rioting, bringing the matter to the attention of General Hanztem, who sends forth Major Rulse and his division to settle the matter. Meanwhile, Dracul and their party manages to sneak in through a hidden cave route designed by the Argasians for escape. They must know attack the keep guard through the rear, burn the supplies, and kill General Hanztem in 15 turns.

The battle map itself is technically fog of war, but there’s enough illumination in the inner castle that the player can see enough of the map, at least what isn’t hiding treasures. The enemy units will only attack if you end up in their movement range, so use this to your advantage. The mode enemy unit in this map will be archers and soldiers with javelins, with the occasional uber-strong mercenary that will completely demolish Dorinic and even pose a challenge for the mage twins, Konnor, and Dracul on higher difficulties.

At the center of the map will be a large room with the supplies in it.  These supplies must be burned with a Torch Staff or magic (Fire, Thunder, and Elfire) that Edna starts with. This is one of the two objectives that must be completed in a set number of turns, the other being to defeat the boss. General Hanztem is a Cavalier armed with some surprisingly powerful weapons (a Steel Blade and a Silver Lance). However, his main weakness is low resistance. Mirelia, Miruna, and Edna can put a serious dent in him.

Once the supplies are burned, a small group of rebels will storm the fort with the help of a rogue mage. You can use this as a distraction to swiftly kill Hanztem and escape.

Once Hanztem is defeated, you have to head back to the ship you started at. Some reinforcements will start either chasing you or blocking your path, but as long as you can get all characters to the escape zone (a group of tiles that everyone has to be on to escape), select “Escape” from the menu, and then *bam* Bob’s your uncle, it’s done!

After the hit-and-run, the scene opens up to a burned down Bunchesta with a crowd of villagers surrounding to the front Major Rulse and his soldiers. A generic soldier comes to inform Major Rulse of General Hanztem’s demise. Angered, Major Rulse retreats back to Ft. Galli to find the reports true and the fort deprived of its resources. Many soldiers begin considering surrender following the brutal raid on the fort, but Rulse stands firm in his defense. Dracul sails back to Covsasnia to report to Vladimir.

Human Chapter 3: The Church Boy’s Guide to Rebellion

After defeating the bandits in the cave, Alain and his crew (now with Poppy, Gwen, Adoh and Morag in tow) heads north to Cael. Klaus greets the group, and asks that they help in keeping some opportunistic bandits off the village’s back while his squadron deals with the actual rebels.

Alain heads out of the city and starts looking for the bandits, and is soon ambushed by them. From there, it’s a pretty typical rout chapter, with only a few minor twists. Juliet flies in after three turns, and you need to talk with her with Alain to recruit her. After completing the mission, the group heads back to Klaus, who have dealt with the remaining rebels (about half of which surrendered when their life was on the line and the other were fanatical enough to die fighting for a ‘just cause’). Suddenly, a new letter comes in from Allania, stating that there was a big insurrection on Anglemor, with burned supplies and a dead general. Klaus says he should stay and help reconstruct while the rest of the group heads on to Anglemor to stop it.

Kibaire Chapter 3: Our Love Is God

After arriving to Covsasnia, Dracul reports to Vladimir of the successful attacks on Anglemor and Cael. Pleased, Vladimir tells Dracul the next step in the plan. Dracul is to head to...

I don’t think you are understanding what people are asking for, right now. What is your hack beyond ‘fe16 leaks’? What is the gameplay going to be like? Is this going to be a difficulty hack? I feel like I’m literally just repeating what others have told/asked.

Ok you have a story. That's good, but that's not everything. Just saying you need to explain in detail what you are planning on doing. What are the features of this game? What are you going to be using to host this game? How long is this game going to be? What are credentials of you and everyone already involved? What exactly do you want from who helps you out? I'm sure there are even more questions I could come up with that should have been answered in the first post or at least should have been easy to answer when asked. Instead, this is all a jumbled mess that hasn't done anything good for you.

At this point taking a step back and making sure you have a presentation post to show up explaining all the key details needed for what you guys want and what your project is about. Right now, chances aren't great that you are going to get anywhere with what you have now.

Ummm... I'm sorry.

This is my first real hacking project, and we've basically only just started...

Currently on the team we have some people from here, some from the FE Reddit, some from Twitter, and hopefully soon some from FE Universe... I can confirm that, from here (SF), Tuvy (artist), myself (designer/writer), Erren (Composer/battle sprite recoloring) and Hawkatana (Coder/Designer) are involved. I can't confirm anyone else right now, as they come from Reddit or Twitter.

We have a few sprites. We have a face sprite for Anna.

anna.PNG

We've entered Alain into FE8, which we are using.

SS.png

(if you're wondering why Sol has Luna's effect, it's for thematic reasons.)

We also have a battle sprite for the Wolf Moonshifter class.

Wolf_Doggo.png?width=400&height=261

THIS JUST IN: WE HAVE A FACE SPRITE FOR OUR JEIGEN, HUON

To this day we have never figured out the Assembly code to allow more than the already coded classes to shift forms in an animation before and after battle.

You're going to have to replace Myrrh's dragon animation. All three of them.
