Cropping is basically the same as zooming (to an extent), but it gets rid of the rest of the image, leaving you with only the zoomed in part. If it's a sprite, you would probably be better off replicating it with your own sprite making software. I'm not a spriter or an image cropping enthusiast, so that's about all I can help you with.
