Replace a lord with a minor character

Recommended Posts

Basically, here's a game I thought up. Think up a lord, and then replace them with a character who doesn't really have much to do in the plot. For example, replacing say...Corrin with Charlotte or something. They basically take up their role in the plot.

Who would you replace, and how would the game change?

Innes with Eirika, because He's competent... As for the change, there is no way he could do worse.

Michiah with Sothe, because he wouldn't trust the Black Knight and would of went with Ike right away, skipping the nonsense that is Chapter 4.

Well... Leo doesn't technically do much in Conquest's plot. If he was the main character, everything would be so much better. The story actually becomes Leo trying to fix Nohr from within like it was advertised because he already knows something is up with Garon, he has no reason to trust Azura or conquer Hoshido with her, Camilla becomes a better character bc no Corrin means no obsession and instead she helps Leo and Elise, Xander becomes a better character because he would probably become a recurring enemy/NPC until he  eventually betrays Garon and joins later in the campaign... also being the lord Leo becomes a better unit and gets more deserved screentime :3

Hmmm...what about Birthright?

Replace Roy with Binding Blade Karel and you get a God-Tier unit from start to finish.

I've always liked Sothe. I really think he should be considered a Lord character.

Replace Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn with Dorcas.

What's wrong with chapter 4 and how exactly is it nonsense?

Oboro taking on Corrin's role in Birthright?  The story would take a massive turn, that's for sure.  While Corrin was all for extending mercy at times for certain characters, particularly to Camilla and Leo, if Oboro was in charge, every Nohrian the Hoshidan army challenged would be dead.  The twist would be even crazier in Conquest assuming Oboro's alliances don't change at all.

You replace Sigurd with Arden, then the army would move too slowly to get anything accomplished.  Thus, Manfroy's plot goes off completely without a hitch, no one has children, and the Loptyrian Empire rises again.  Or they'd just never encounter Deirdre because she got kidnapped by some Verdane thug, and Adean would be forcibly married off to not-wizard!Gandolf.

You replace Marth with Navarre, and the army will go from a liberation force to a mercenary band with standards.

And if you replace Alm and Celica with Kliff and Genny... the former would spend way too much time excavating all the ruins, and the latter would recruit nothing but middle-aged men into her army.

I might of got the chapter wrong, Chapter 3 (or known as Part 3) where Ike and Micaiah fight each other, because there are 4 people on her side who should damn well know better, or have anything to do with the Black Knight, being Sothe, Jill, Tauroneo and Zihark.

I mean, Oboro doesn't complain when Felicia, Jakob, Scarlet or Silas join in canon.

I thought you meant chapter 1-9: One Survives because that's the chapter where the Black Knight is first introduced.

I never knew I wanted this. Granted, I/we expected so much from Fates' story in general.

Only because Corrin is the reason three of those characters join, and the other character is actively rebelling against the Nohrian government.

And even then, she doesn't exactly greet the Nohrians she interacts with warmly.  The only reason she doesn't kill any of them is out of necessity or because one of her superiors brought them on.  If Oboro had Corrin's authority, Scarlet would be the only Nohrian who joins unless we assume in this scenario that Oboro is walking the whole nine yards in Corrin's shoes and thus was given Nohrian servants.

Hmmm....if Oboro takes Corrin's place, will she be revealed to be a Nohrian royal in Conquest? She'd probably not take that well.

I guess the Yato would also become a Naginata, so she could use it.

Replace Chrom with Frederick, Robin would not have been trusted so much and the whole revival of Grima probably would not have happened and if it did there would not have been that whole fight about if Robin should sacrifice themselves to stop Grima (I always thought that choice was dumb because after talking to all the kids who in their right mind would leave Grima with a chance of being able to come back to life?).

Marth with Nyna. It follows Nyna's campaign to reclaim her kingdom and reunite the Archanean continent to finally defeat the forces of Medeus and Gharnef. She gets to wield Falchion too because she does.

Ike with Tauroneo. Tauroneo leaves Daein and becomes a mercenary instead of Greil. He builds the Tauroneo mercenaries, becomes the escort of princess Elincia, watches the Black Knight kill his son, and unites beorc and laguz to defeat Ashnard.

Does it have to be from the same game though?

Because when I saw the title my brain immediately thought of replacing Corrin with Vaike. I don't honestly have a clue how it'd turn out but it'd be pretty damn hilarious.

I would replace Leif with Marty, so the Marty Party would truly never stop.

But we needs those dark periods without Marty to remember that we must not let the Marty Party stop.

Corrin with Mozu. Her background stays the same, but it turns out she's part dragon when her village is attacked. Cue trying to figure out her origins and ending up square in the middle of the Fateslandia conflict due to her powers. She has to take the Yato herself (no flying swords in this Fates, she's not royal family enough for that) and from there Fates would involve her deciding who to join and leading the charge against the faceless who took her family.

Ephraim and Eirika with L'Arachel. Because she'd be more effective (or at least humourous) at administering justice, even as a troubadour.

Roy with Eliwood (It's BB, I think it counts). Eliwood's prestige leads to more lords taking him seriously, leading to Lycia holding off the initial invasion of Ostia without Etruria. From there, the story takes a turn with the Etrurians being asked to invade Lycia and Roartz and Arcardo complying. Meanwhile Eliwood has to return to all the weapon shrines, leading him to finding out about Idoun, who of course reminds him of someone. I'm not quite sure about the ending, any ideas I have are a bit too low quality for my taste.

Replace SD!Marth with Matthis. When Marth and his army (now very minor characters) arrive, Matthis catches sight of Julian staring at Lena and embarks in a quest to defeat the foul Thief and defend his dear sister's honour. Which involves him throwing his rapieresque javelins (effective against clerics) at Lena, who'd be the first boss for whatever reason. The final boss would be Julian, his favourite henchman would be Rickard, Navarre and Castor would just tag along, later joined by Malice and Dice, and noone would join Matthis because, I mean, who likes Matthis? Aside from yours truly...

Alternatively, if you want to get really minor, Marth with Belf, Leiden and Robert, sable knights. They'd go on an adventure to find their lost leader, Camus, that would take them all around Archanea and Valentia. They'd be joined by Frost, a humble family man, because the sable knights remind him of his grandsons; Tomas, useless Sniper, because he was bored and felt like tagging along; Boah, an Archanean Bishop who was thought to have died, but instead survived and ended up in Valentia (because, as we know, all sea roads lead to Valentia); Lorenz, General of Grust who also washed up in Valentia and held information vital to finding Camus; Nyna, Camus' beloved who wants nothing but to find him, now that Marth is the supreme leader of Archanea; Deen, Valentian Hero who died by Alm's hand but didn't really and escaped to Archanea (what a twist!); Abel, Altean knight who joins them hoping to find his lost wife; Est, aforementioned wife who fled to, guess where, Valentia, in shame; Tatiana, a Saint who might have a lead to Camus' whereabouts; and lastly, the game's Gotoh: Zeke, a very mysterious Paladin who joins the party for unknown reasons after being spoken to by Tatiana.

The final boss would be Gharnef, who is believed by the knights to be holding Camus hostage. He was supposed to be dead, but (you guessed it!) he instead fled to Valentia. Then Duma would appear out of nowhere and they would also beat him up, while Alm and Celica watch in disbelief.

In the end, Zeke veeeeeeeeeeeery subtly reveals his true identity to the sable knights, who understand Camus can't return because he has duties in Valentia, and they all return to Archanea in peace. Except for Nyna, she sacrifices herself to save Zeke when Gharnef attacks the party from behind.

I probably didn't do it right, but I still had fun, and that's the important part, I guess...

Legault doesn't want to lead an army, but those idiots keep following him.  They might as well make themselves useful.  It's not like he can sneak off and do his Actual Job, now that he has a noisy crowd around him at all times.  And thus was the story of how the Black Fang was purged from within, with the ending somehow unchanged.

Fire Emblem Awakening. Chrom is written out of the story entirely in favour of Robin doing everything he usually would on top of his/her own parts. This makes Robin/Lucina pairings impossible. Robin/Lissa and Robin/Owain also kind of fall out for this. Owain/Morgan doesn't for some reason because apparently cousin pairings are okay. Lucina's journey to the past actually becomes even more emotional because she's gone back in time to kill her own father to prevent Grima's resurrection.

We inexplicably get no reason why no one knew Validar was the former exalt of Ylisse and was now living in Plegia, a country that he committed atrocities against and by all rights should hate him. Thus creating a plot crater.

Also, replace Roy with Lilina in Binding Blade. Her bad starting stats no longer matter because she's there at the start, and because of decent growths she shouldn't drag you down all game. Just until her presumably late promotion. She could replace Hector for leading the Ostian Army and hold out until Roy shows up. Or something. Not sure how she survives when Hector didn't.
