If you were to create Fire Emblem Switch what Mechanics would you add to it

Recommended Posts

Wanted to know what would you do if you could create FE Switch

Me: I would make it where in some supports you can get skills or special weapons from them

Possible 2nd Gen

Better Villains - give them a motive besides serving a dark god or dragon

Better lords - not make them onsided like corrin or chrom

No Avatar

units who have something to say or are apart of the story

I'd look to do this but also have some character recruitments as part of them too. Not necessarily the whole 2nd Gen aspect from Awakening and Fates but more like: Characters help out a traveller and they stumble across them again later. They join the army then.

Though thinking about it, this whole concept is really just Tellius' base conversations...

Rescuing, constitution/constitution growths, just mainly those things mechanics wise.

Story/character wise I would want at least two main characters with clashing ideals, except, I wouldn't want to do the whole, "war and peace," thing again, and instead focus on other possible ideals such as clashing opinions on government, wealth, or even perspectives on the value of lives. I would also want the villain to be interesting and unique, I mean, as long as the villain is unique and interesting in my opinion it would suffice.

Off the top of my head:

  • The Trinity of Magic, but also magic-wielding classes with greater variation in Defense and Resistance so that it isn't rendered redundant by most magic-wielding classes having high Resistance and low Defense
  • Thracia 776-style Trade
  • Rescue in place of Pair Up
  • Restore staves that remove both ailments and debuffs
  • Weapon durability and the ability to pay to repair weapons like in Genealogy of the Holy War

#1 Change weapon triangle to sword-lance-ax-hammer, and reapply weapon triangle to magic.

#2 Bring back durability to standard weapons and add extra durability to unique weapons. The weapon/item prices were overly inflated to make up for the lack of durability and it simply didn't work well.

#3 Apply mission variety to reduce map fatigue as previous Fire Emblems did. Defend/attack/rescue/escort/etc with optional sidequests. Bring back the world map to give players a better sense of where they were and where they are headed.

  • Bring back the elevation mechanic RD had.
  • A support/promotion system where characters can gain a new promotion branch by talking to a certain character i.e. a mage will become a sage, but can gain access to the mage knight class if they have befriended someone who rides a horse. Or Dark Flier with a Pegasus friend, or Mage Fighter with a sword wielding infantry friend. These are just examples.
  • Since Dancers/Refreshers don't promote, it would be cool for them to get different songs/dances to learn and perform as they level up (or learned through a support). It would be similar to how Ninian and Nils had different rings. OR they could just get new outfits that grant different bonuses to nearby allies.
  • Deploy Squads- give your bench warmers some use! Send them on sidequest missions to obtain items and resources and such. They can level up from the exchange as a result. However, I'm unsure of whether I want missions to be dependent on IRL time or by chapter completions.

1) Breakable weapons and standard inventories. I'm fine if plot weapons (ie Falchion, Ragnell) and maybe Regalia stuff (Mercurius, Durandal, etc) are unbreakable, but most stuff should be breakable.

2) Standard weapon triangle and trinity of magic. It'd be cool if the Anima trinity returned too, but its not all that important to me.

3) Skills are fine and probably staying, but I can't decide if Tellius style or Awakening style would be better. Definitely not SoV style.

4) Real maps Map variety. Conquest had some objective variety, but it still could've used more, and more diversity in map mechanics. Dragon Veins are a cool concept, but they weren't done well enough usually in Fates. Fog of War coming back would be cool. Deserts, volcano terrain, poison traps, that sort of stuff is cool. Elevation in RD was a lot of fun. Rain/Snow from FE7 could be interesting. The penalty to mount movement inside like in RD was an interesting concept too.

5) Traditional Supports. While I liked the Base Conversation idea in RD, it (essentially) came at the expense of real supports. I like anybody being able to support with anybody, and I do know how large the RD cast was, but I missed having the full conversations. Also, please don't be like SoV. Characters who fight together are bound to make more than one or two friends over the course of their rather long journey.

6) Rescue, not Pair Up.

7) No children, unless its a full second generation. The only way to effectively do same gen children is with time travel, and that's already been used anyway.

1) Lock some supports behind other supports. Say that A has locked supports with characters C and D, after their second support with character B where B tells them to open up, A's supports with C and D are unlocked. This is to prevent support conversations from occurring in a vacuum, where character development in a support is ignored in other conversations.

2) Rescue system that allows a unit to walk up to another unit and 'be' rescued by that unit, like how Pair Up lets you use a knight's turn to pair with a cavalier, and the cavalier uses their turn to move and drop the knight. I feel this will make the low move of knights hurt less like in awakening and fates.

3) SoV's magic system

4) Dismounting, but without keeping weapon types for a unit exclusive for whether they're mounted or on foot.

I like these! The deploy option reminds me of FF Tactics Advance. Dunno if that's where you got the idea, but I've wanted something like that since Revelations because the army is massive but there are so few deployment slots.

I've checked FF Tactics out but never got into it. I don't believe my idea is original though- I've read about somewhere (probably a different thread on here) and liked the sound of it. Or maybe I've read about it while I was checking out FF tactics.
