When I first played Atelier Sophie (my first Atelier game), my initial impression was that the target audience for these games is probably younger girls due to how cutesy everything was, from the artstyle to the music to the characters themselves.
Then the internet happened.

Why. Internet ruins everything as it is, so it's not like it's not like whatever idea came through your head means it's what it was intended to be.

I don't know about young girls, but the "Arland" trilogy (what made it more prominent in the West) has a particularly girly charm.

Like, really girly:

fuck this shit is adorable

The games (and characters) are consistent with this level of adorableness.
I mean, Meruru has a theme song that would fit right in as the opening theme of a magical girl anime. And it's a freaking earworm on top of that. Where is it used in-game? Boss battles. Yup.

But then you get stuff like this.

Speaking of atelier, I have lost all faith in humanity. They make Ryza body pillows. It's a kids/lighthearted game, for goodness's sake!

I don't even know what an Otaku is, so no.

Body pillows are mostly made by 3rd parties. And this case, it has nothing to do with the actual company. Thank God.

Even if they're willing to compromise on their target demographic, they still hold actual standards.

Though it has its price with 220 €.

For that price, they shouldn't have to be making you wait that long...

.......you didn't know this stuff?

Nope. I know body pillows exist (I don't know why they do and I'm not sure I want to know), but not that they do for Atelier characters of all things.

...I just figured out what body pillow is.

Ryza has one!?

I want it!

Pretty much any waifu related to anime, gaming, and Asia has a dakimakura. Have not seen any for Dora the Explorer though. Have not found any dakimuras for Barney nor Teletubbies yet either, but since we got an Elmo, I think it is just a matter of time.
