Warning: this LP will likely contain some spoilers (mostly minor, though).  Also, this game contains scenes of violence (though no blood), political/racial undertones, and otherwise fairly harrowing depictions of warfare and persecution for a game rated T/Pegi 16.  Not only that, but this game now features a certain someone with quite a foul mouth.  Both my own commentary and a good chunk of Raz's dialogue will contain gratuitous amounts of "s**ts" and "a**holes", and maybe even an "H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks" or two.

Hello fellow strategists, and welcome to a brand new game and LP!  And in fact, it's my first ever video LP.

Of course, I'm here bringing you the fresh new Valkyria Chronicles 4, a strategy-action game loosely based on World War 2.  Nothing else special about this, just a new game.  Though I will attempt to play through the game with minimal grinding.

From now until I beat the game, I will be uploading four one-hour blocks every week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Expect a new part on those days; if I miss a day or two, I'm probably out of town.  I'll let folks know here what's going on if anything comes up.

Without further ado, let's get started with Valkyria Chronicles 4!  ヽRGaYS2c.png

Yeah, I'm thinking that while I don't want to grind for money, I do want to see about grinding for character fragments by going through the first skirmish and shooting for just under 20 turns, every turn using all the CPs available to simply select units.  Off-screen, of course.

It'll give me something to do with the game during downtime, and it'll set up for me to be able to pursue the fragments' stories on-camera without giving me a whole lot of money and experience.

I will almost certainly be keeping a slower pace than those actually playing the game, so there'll be two things to note about that; first is that my content will likely not spoil something you haven't seen if you're playing more than four hours a week, and I will not know about the game beyond what I've posted so I'd like to ask that people don't post spoilers for stuff beyond what is LP'd so far.

Tomorrow will be the other hour I recorded.  It's just the next chapter and me fiddling around in the HQ a little.

Changing things up a slight bit.

I'm uploading my stuff on a new channel on account of YouTube algorithmic bullshit, as I uploaded the first episode on a channel that has been mostly inactive for, like, five years or so and only recently realized that this would be bad for me in the long run.  This new channel is gonna be exclusively gaming content.  It is Ertrick36 Gaming.  I'll reupload the first part there, and then I'll start uploading the second one.

I'll probably do some other stuff besides VC on that channel, in case anyone wanted to see me play something like Fire Emblem, Metal Gear, or the Sims.  But VC4 will be a more major LP for me until I beat it.

If you want to grind characters to unlock their fragments, it's actually better to replay main story missions since it'll take half as much time compared to regular skirmishes

But does it give more or less rewards?

I couldn't care less about time, I just want to know if in the long run I'll wind up getting less money and experience.

It just reduces the time (selections) needed in order to rank up characters to fufill the requirements to unlock the fragments

I'll do some testing and crank some numbers to see what would be most optimal for myself.

If I'm not mistaken, the selection count required is reduced in half for the main missions, right?

So I recorded some new content (to be posted this Monday), and I've gotten new info on my research.

I got around 2000 EXP and DCTs on a skirmish at C-rank, and slightly more of both with the first chapter.  And folks have confirmed via Steam Guide comments that you indeed boost rank twice as much with the main missions.  This was confirmed by one of my mortarers, Aoife (sweet Darcsen gal who I'll definitely use), rising up slightly in rank after only about ten-or-so uses in a major mission.

So I've concluded that it'll be better if I repeat the first chapter instead for the purposes of grinding for unit ranks.  I may get some slight level ups ahead, but overall I shouldn't have to do this more than perhaps five-or-so times.  One thing's for sure though, I'm definitely getting my three Darcsens up to Corporal first.

If it sounds like I'm sick in these latest two parts or the next two parts... it's because I am.  Cold, fever, infection... not great.

But you know what is great?

Completing Team Darcsen with a brand-spankin' new Darcsen lady.  She's kinda hot, too.

Trust me, that more than makes up for the excruciating pain in my ear.  And yes, I've already grinded her and all the other non-Raz Darcsens to Corporal.  Now I just need Isara from that December DLC, and everything will fall in place.

Time to put our Team Darcsen into action!

Bam!  Part 5 out, and this time we learn more about the extent of Raz's stupid.  But you know what?  We still love him anyway.

Also, forgot to point out that Raz is straight up wrong about men not having as tight an ass as Leena's; I mean, have you never played Metal Gear Solid 2 or Metal Gear Solid 4?

This next thumbnail was a bitch to make, this is why I just grab bits from screenshots and slap 'em on a collage over another screenshot.

Next part up now!

Curtis's sister is a lot more helpless than I was led to believe.  Also, I am so ashamed I didn't make a joke about Nico using the power of god and anime in the video.

I am so goddamn nettled right now...

So basically, like, half of the footage I recorded for Tuesday's part had me totally muted (just me; the game itself had audio all the way through).  And it was, like, three-or-so hours of footage.  To top it all off, the mute started, like, halfway into a mission, and it was all because OBS is a fucking asshole bitch dick.  This is why you should always check your settings or use Audacity to record your voice.

So I guess for this next part I'm gonna do an audio recording of me watching this muted bit so that there's some commentary.  Regardless, it's going to be in two parts because it was so long, the first part will be the early bird and the second is likely going to come either later in the night or Wednesday.

Sorry for the inconvenience.  I will make triply sure this never ever happens again.  And also I'm probably never gonna try to jam a chapter into one part ever again.

The fabled Siegval Line has been taken, and everyone's sick of everyone's crap.

Hopefully Raz will stop being a shit after this disaster.  Unlikely to happen, but a man can dream.

The mortar blowing up midair seems to be a bug on PC, since that's happened to me a few times before in some other missions.  It's very much possible to destroy the Vulcan and his escorts though

I... found out later that it's possible to destroy the Vulcan quite easily.  You'll see later on in my LP.

In this I find that of the trio between Rebecca, Mabel, and Fleuret, my favorite character is my least favorite unit, and my least favorite character winds up being the MVP.  'Cuz apparently engineers can be good, too.

Also, we've confirmed that Dan totally jacks it in his tank.  Unspoken "passions", indeed.

Late to the party, but as promised it's now here!

I swear that Christel dreams of Minerva doing some high impact stuff to her.  And yes, every time Christel makes an appearance, I'm never not going to make jokes about her being lesbo for Minerva.

Also, prepare for me to start telling stories about why I hate snow from here on out until I beat the game.  Because I'm a cynical piece of shit adult who hates everything about winter.

Oh yeah, and I actually looked at the analytics, and...

Obviously the first part is the most watched, and Part 3 was also somewhat popular...

but why the hell is Godwin cheesing the last part of Chapter 4 my most watched video this week?  Do people just love watching me turn the game into swiss cheese?  Or did people find Klaus Walz dominating Aladdin and Eileen sexier than Aoife dominating everything?  The world may never know...

And this, by far, is the most amazing discovery I've made looking at the analytics:

The fact that someone, somewhere out there just typed "horny" and found one of my videos is absolutely amazing.  And also funny, as I imagine the fella was probably sorely disappointed that it wasn't porn.

Back to schedule with another part to this thing that I've taken to calling a "let's play".

Odin is literally Owain; he even share one of his monikers!  And Team Darcsen is proving to be the boon I expected them to be through exploiting the save system.
