Battle to make Granada worse, you mean. Knowing Holmes, he's just going to skewer Xyon and leave to dick around elsewhere without leaving anybody in charge, sending the whole city into disarray.

Ho boy, this made me laugh in the worst way. Yeah, what kind of asshole would do such a thing. Isn't that right, Chrom?
Looking at recent Fire Emblem games, you'd think it's somehow super hard to make a protagonist who is not a self-centric, self-pontificating shitbag. At least Holmes is meant to be the "jerk with a hearth of gold" kinda guy. I can most certainly see how that kind of character could easily cross a line if you aren't careful.

Hahahah... I like you, man. You're a cool dude. Just like Xyon, and heck, Bismarck was awesome off-screen! Why couldn't I play as them instead of Holmes?

Probably because they fight for an evil empire.

That reminds me, you ever noticed how the opening demo gameplay displaying multiplayer matches also shows bosses and NPCs that aren't actually playable? Not that this is in any way important, just some random trivia.

No, no, no! The bastards are going to attempt a warpskip on me! Are you kidding me?! Didn't you guys read the rules?! They're right there, on the OP, for once! You can't do that, it's... it's not allowed! I-It's unprofessional!

Yeah, that's quite nasty. On the bright side, at least you don't need to worry that her wasting your valuable Warp Staff uses.

I do love how the locals seized an opportunity here though. Too bad that their efforts indirectly made things worse.

I can't honestly say. Sometimes I just have an idea, and then I follow through with it. It leads to things, not just in language, but in everything. One time I noticed a pattern for working out the result of squaring numbers without a calculator. I asked my then professor at the time about it, but he'd never seen it (though questioned if it had a practical use). I've google searched the method and found nothing at all on my method despite it being demonstrably accurate. See, the thing is you take a number that's the result of squaring a number, then add the next odd number in sequence to it and you will get the next squared number. (O+1=1. which is the same as 1 squared, 1+3=4, which is the same as 2 squared, 4+5 =9, the same as three squared, 9+7=16 which is the same as 4 squared, and so on). Every once in a while I pull out the trick and it never fails to impress people who understand it, and confuse those who don't. Unfortunately, it's completely useless in a post-calculator world, so while I'll have the knowledge I discovered it, textbooks aren't going to teach it in 100 years.

I tested it out a few times, and it appears that it works. I can see issues with trying to find out the second odd number, but I agree that it is rather impressive.

Pair up was a mechanic I had mixed feelings about in Awakening, because it felt so overpowered. At the same time it gave the game something that made it different from prior entries. Kind of how things are with new mechanics. Sometimes they can be unbalanced but they're what make the installment stand out.

Pair-up is a mechanic that I both wouldn't mind seeing return as well as one that I wouldn't care if it remains in Awakening and Fates. The stat bonuses that units received were no joke, being able to make fragile units actually quite durable among other examples, and the ability to swap between, say, a knight and a Pegasus rider at the press of a button opened up a lot of strategies not seen before in Fire Emblem. At the same time, yeah, it was definitely their first time implementing the mechanic, and the only time it has a semblance of balance is on lunatic difficulty.

Speaking of, since I doubt I'll get another chance to talk about this... anybody else feels like the Three Houses character designs are really subpar? Call me an elitist if you want, but I'm really not feeling the whole "everyone is a generic anime student" shenanigan. There's a grand total of exactly one character whose design I truly like, that being Hanneman. He's the only one that has something going on that stands out somehow. Rhea's fine, but she suffers from Generic Anime Face syndrome, and I suppose Raphael at least stands out, even if his design isn't my cup of tea.

Everyone else? Meeeeehh... very meh, even leaving aside the fact that half of them have the same clothes. If you like them, that's fine by me, but I don't know, when I compare them to the characters from older games, I cannot help but feel like they're way more... over-the-top anime, with bloated, overly detailed attires that don't even know what they're trying to be (Dorothea...), uncanny faces, and uninspired looks that aren't so easy to differentiate. That's not to say every old character's better (Heath's still hideous no matter how you look at him, for example), and I'm aware that their clothing will change upon promoting, but still, it's not the best first impression to go with. Especially when the only character I like has a very significant chance of being a villain. Is it too much to ask that I can get a Wendell-like unit in Hanneman? C'mon, I like his design and love what we've seen of his personality. It's like the Medic from TF2, except he's British instead of German. And I love the Medic. C'mooon let me have him as a playable unit!

You're not the only one to think the art looks average, either. I'm kind of in the same boat, honestly. Especially after the awesome artwork we got for Echoes, which I know is difficult to compete with, but it's difficult not to compare the two. And the outfits look very samey to me, which is especially noticeable since Fire Emblem is generally pretty good at having each units armor look distinct even when sometimes they are wearing the same thing.

Personally, though, I'm actually more concerned about the animations. I know we haven't seen a lot of them yet, but they just seem to lack the same punch and speed that Echoes had, and considering the dynamic combat animations were one of the main reasons I was instantly hyped for that game (alongside being a remake of an older game in the series when I was interested in exploring them and releasing only two days after my birthday), I will admit that it did dampen my excitement for Three Houses a bit. I know, it's the first time they're making a Fire Emblem game on the switch, while they had over five years experience using the engine when creating Echoes, but that still doesn't calm my worries.

I mean, at least there are ways to see through the Fog of War, and in Berwick Saga, they finally made it affect the enemy as well! Yes, that's a thing that happens in Berwick. Have I mentioned that I need Berwick lately? Progress is way too slow for what I'd like (read, release right about now), but eh, I can't complain. It's a wonder somebody's translating the thing at all - and quite well, at that. I can be patient, I suppose. Though Aethin's radio silence worries me. Probably just me overreacting, or him taking it easy as the end of the school year approaches, but damnit is it making me nervous.

While it still doesn't solve the issue of Fog of War not really working in Fire Emblem without some adjustments (I think they could take a page out of Wesnoth, and allow a unit to move one tile a turn, but if they reveal Fog of War, they can't undo their movement), making the enemies finally suffer under the same curse does help alleviate it.

Less "that was genuinely funny and joyful" laugh and more "the realization that there was an easy solution after hours of trying and failing/doing something extremely carefully and planning ahead only for ones efforts to go to waste/my actions had consequences on some random guy in this fictional universe" kind of laugh.

In terms of sucessfully ruling the galaxy for several decades and having a back-up plan for everything, Lentzenheimer didn't have the necessary intellect.

Besides, I think Lentzie has bigger problems to worry about, what with the whole "Norton cut half my face off" business, to be able to afford wasting time gloating about how he killed a guy but not really.

...ah, what am I talking about, it's perfectly in-character for Lentzie to do that.

I thought of it two-fold on Lentzie's part. Not only is it gloating, but a distraction is the primary thing that prevents him dying then and there. Though there's a risk it just makes Runan kill him. As I said though, I realLee wouldn't have had the heart to do this song if this was canonicalLee valid. I'd have respectfulLee held my tongue.

Also, can I just say that, if this game had endings like the standard FEs, I'd expect no less than this for Eugen's nickname? You could argue that Eugen probably wouldn't have an ending since he's not playable, but I say he would. He'd punch the guy in charge of the endings until he decided to give him an ending. And I would not complain.

He'd get a win-lose section which reflects knocking Holmes out.

Well, if it were the full force of the imperial army each time, the obvious way this could work is each batch has been trained between battles where you faced the full force. Which would be more unbelievable... if Holmes didn't go off doing completely random shit for no reason. As it stands though, there's obviously no one facing the literal full force as yet, because they're split all over the place. Just the metaphorical full force... which is a bit less impressive though easier to transport.

I wrote it out to something around the 30 mark to prove my point back in the day. The catch with finding the correct odd number to add was exactly why the calculator is much more effective even with the knowledge... kind of making it obsolete out of the box. While it's a relatively quick way to do this... it's just not practical.

But of course, having back-up plans for everything doesn't make one evil. All you really proved is Lentzenheimer was much less intelligent. He'd have fully ruled a Galaxy if he had the chance. He just lacked the capability. Odds are he'd have been far more of a dick about it than Palpatine too. It's just to everyone's benefit Lentzenheimer's evil was thankfully not in the hands of someone more capable.

Pretty sure that's how the cursed weapons tend to work in this game (from when you get so many kills with the weapon), but I could be remembering that wrong. I recall that shopkeep had the ability to use them without the curse affecting him for some reason. Likely Kaga being a troll putting it on an NPC.

Part 55 - Good knight, sweet dreams.

It would seem my last update was so bad, it killed the site. Jeez... sorry for the delay, guys, but I couldn't do much at first, due to all the disconnections (also Thracia the rest of the week). I just hope this doesn't mess with the release of the Thracia 776 translation. I understand that relocating to a different server isn't easy, it'll take some time to stabilize the site, I can be patient with the connection problems.

But fuck, if I take any longer to play Thracia I might just explode. I was convinced the Thracia translation was going to be released in May 31 at noon, but turns out, since I live on the other side of the world from Cirosan, it's June 1 instead! Midnight, to be fair, but that's no way to get started with Thracia!

I'm writing this in the past of May 31, and I'm currently pissed off. Goddamnit, my hype is through the roof, let me play my Thracia! Two games I have to wait on is one too many. Well, two too many, but what can you do.

EDIT: Ruben from the future here. Fucking awesome game thus far. I just got to Panne's mansion. It was all going swell, Leif even managed to somehow solo the 4x Knight and Mage squad (killed three Knights and dodged all the fireballs, why's he supposed to be bad again?), until I lost Brighton. It was half-way through chapter 5, so I pressed on. Bastards, I liked him and the way he was growing... Raydrik has one more life to answer for now. Still, loving the game so far. It's difficult, but aside from a couple of things I wouldn't say it's quite as unforgiving as people say it is. Although, six soldiers appearing on top of the kids in 11x was bullshit, plain and simple. Managed to save the one that gave a scroll, as well as another one that I'm pretty sure gave me absolutely nothing (unless Saias appearing with Mareeta somehow depends on this kid's survival). Lost the third one. He was next to the door when it happened. I don't know what I missed out on.

Units-wise, can I just say Hicks is awesome? I didn't even intend to use him, he has almost no character and is pretty damn ugly. After Brighton's death I just accepted I wouldn't be getting an Axe Knight, but out of necessity, I used Hicks and his poleaxe in chapter 7, and he actually impressed me quite a bit! Been a mainstay of the team since. He's got the best build in the team, I need to bring his sword rank up a bit, because he's my best indoor capturer. Other highlights of my team right now are Asbel, my best unit (capped speed, 16 magic, even serviceable build and defense for a Mage), Finn (although that goes without saying), Ronan (I'll use him if it kills me), Selphina (she's got one of my favourite designs in the game, so what can I say, I just had to try. She's pretty good, Accost lets her erase a lot of things. Also, she's got great FUCC. Shame 'bout Glade), Kane (only a highlight 'cause I doubt anybody else has ever used him), Orsin (he's dead. That's the highlight), and Salem (he's only just arrived, but I'm determined to make him my next best unit. 4 scrolls on him, here we go).

I'm really liking the story thus far, too. Beware spoilers 1 2 3 It's pretty good, I dig more personal tone it has. Although, the bossmen are really bad. Not quite FE12 bad (mainly because there are bossmen here, unlike FE12 where half the time there weren't even any bossmen), but there are barely any memorable minor bosses. Kempf is one, but although I love how sarcastic he is in the new patch, he still feels rather underwhelming when compared to Lentzenheimer. Heck, even the villains. Raydrik's pretty good, Cirosan's writing really improved him. The whole thing with Eyvel really sells him as a villain in my opinion, even if he does disappear afterwards. But Veld... bleh. The part where he was just randomly hanging around in the middle of chapter 4's map with Manfroy, Ishtar and Julius was really funny, poor guy didn't look like he belonged there. He barely even had two lines there, too. The final boss, ladies and gentlemen. Overshadowed by the villains of a different game, and the secondary villain of his own game. I mean, c'mon, he barely even said anything after petrifying Eyvel, the rest of that scene was basically Raydrik wetting his pants over Stone!Eyvel and me hating him for it. Veld was just... kinda there.

Other than that, there are a couple of name changes that I don't like too much. Conote was fine, there was no need to change it to Connaught and be forced to move the place in the world map to fit the new name. As well, Pan. He's literally Bread in spanish. I get that wasn't the intent, but it was still funny. But these are complete non-issues compared to the joy of being able to finally play through this great game. Also, there are some new names that I prefer, such as the new name for Sleuf. Sleuf's a really french-sounding name, delicate, smooth, almost like you're saying literal white roses. The kind of name you'd use for the protagonist of a lullaby or fairy tale, a name that could put kids to sleep. But with Project Exile comes SCHLOFF, motherfucking MENSCH from GERMANY that's a TITSUCKING BADASS and a PUSSY-MAGNET, and his NAME needs to be YELLED like all GERMAN names like SCHRÖDINGER! Hahah... ah, anyway.

...fucking hell, that's long. You guys are going to need a Tl:Dr, otherwise I'm going to have to change my name to Saint Law and Order AKA Rishel.

Tl:Dr: Really liking Thracia so far, even though losing Brighton was a kick in the balls. Fun game that isn't quite as unforgiving as some say, even if it's got its share of Kaga bullshit. Leif is awesome, don't let Gamefaqs convince you otherwise. Hicks is also awesome. Sleuf is now German. Pan is bread.

Does anyone even stop:

Looking at recent Fire Emblem games, you'd think it's somehow super hard to make a protagonist who is not a self-centric, self-pontificating shitbag. At least Holmes is meant to be the "jerk with a hearth of gold" kinda guy. I can most certainly see how that kind of character could easily cross a line if you aren't careful.

That's why I like lords like Leif, Runan and Reese. They're much more humble, they don't set out to save the world and nobody expects them to save the world (even if sometimes that's exactly what they end up doing). They're just doing their own thing, going through their own trials and tribulations, and growing as a result. That's not to say you can't do a "Chosen One" sort of Lord well (SD!Marth is amazing), but it's easy to go overboard with those.

Of course, there's the problem that I've yet to experience Leif's story with a proper translation, and Reese's story was cut short by translation shenanigans.

Probably because they fight for an evil empire.

Yeah, but Holmes is probably more of a threat to humanity than they are.

That reminds me, you ever noticed how the opening demo gameplay displaying multiplayer matches also shows bosses and NPCs that aren't actually playable? Not that this is in any way important, just some random trivia.

I did notice, yeah. Always thought it was interesting.

Yeah, that's quite nasty. On the bright side, at least you don't need to worry that her wasting your valuable Warp Staff uses.

Heheh... that's... not really reassuring, since right now, my net balance of Warp uses is at a resounding -15.

I do love how the locals seized an opportunity here though. Too bad that their efforts indirectly made things worse.

They saved them from us. That being said, it's nice to see that Holmes's people are more competent than you-can-guess-who.

I have no idea how it works. Perhaps I'll find out a couple months from now.

How about "this took longer than it should have to make" or "chapter length and the amount of time it takes to update the thread are inversely propositional."

I think I like the one I went with better. Catches the eye, and describes the update perfectly: it's so bad, the site went bonkers right when I uploaded it.

Again, subtly is important.

Rrrgh...

...Eugen punching Holmes after the latter causes the universe to implode by tripping.

I know what I said, but what did you say!?

Azuras Wrath is one of the most over-the-top games ever made, if that's what you were talking about there.

Okay, thanks. Yes, that was it.

You're not the only one to think the art looks average, either. I'm kind of in the same boat, honestly. Especially after the awesome artwork we got for Echoes, which I know is difficult to compete with, but it's difficult not to compare the two.

Yeah, after Echoes, it's a flying shame that we got this extremely flat style. Those're really my greatest gripes with it: it's so flat, and the outfits are all horrible. There's no shading anywhere to be seen, everything's flat. Well, everything aside from Dorothea. Dorothea just has a stripper hat, because why not, might as well go all nine yards after Camilla and her legion of alts! And don't even mention Sothis.

And the outfits look very samey to me, which is especially noticeable since Fire Emblem is generally pretty good at having each units armor look distinct even when sometimes they are wearing the same thing.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell...

Tlimnzgb o

(And this is coming from somebody who adores these fellows)

Still, yeah, they were more consistently successful in differentiating units in the old days, I think.

Ah, that doesn't worry me: nothing since FE went 3D has been able to match the beautiful animations of the GBA games, so I expect nothing. Apart, of course, from the KagaSaga games, which remained 2D and were better off as a result. I mean, seriously. Take a look at this,     and tell me it's not friggin' beautiful. And those are just two examples, flier-against-flier battles take place entirely in the sky, it's incredible how good they look. And don't get me started on magic. Ooohhh... I want more Berwick... nnngh...!

Non-canonically, this is true.

Yeah...

It definitely does to some extent, although it's not that impactful. I always forgot that enemies couldn't see me when I played Berwick's FoW maps.

Less "that was genuinely funny and joyful" laugh and more "the realization that there was an easy solution after hours of trying and failing/doing something extremely carefully and planning ahead only for ones efforts to go to waste/my actions had consequences on some random guy in this fictional universe" kind of laugh.

I know that laugh. All too well, perhaps.

I meant more like in Ziggurat, where the alchemistic weapons are things like primitive guns, bombs, and cannons. That, or they could have potions be a unique throwing weapon, like in Darklands.

Aaaah. I understand.

Why couldn't you just say "bombs and guns", then? "Alchemist weapons" sounds like magic's involved! Y'know, Fullmetal Alchemist? They don't use guns and bombs, they shoot fire from their hands!

So was I. And that was counting the specific phrase. 26B was mentioned around 20 times.

Sheesh, me. Get a hold of yourself, me-man!

In terms of killing people for no reason, yes.

In terms of sucessfully ruling the galaxy for several decades and having a back-up plan for everything, Lentzenheimer didn't have the necessary intellect.

Like Mad-Manakete said, that doesn't really say anything about him being more or less evil than Palpatine, it just proves that he's way less capable and intelligent. I'd say Palpie isn't quite the same heartless psycopath as Lentzie. Don't get me wrong, he's a monster too, but he's capable of some restraint, if nothing else so he can use people. Lentzie murdered his own mother over something so petty, it'd put a certain old prosecutor to shame, and managed to get even Gerxel to hate him. There's got to be a reason for that! Were he as capable as Palpatine, the entire galaxy would've burned long before Palpatine even started to build the Death Star.

Well, he is considered one of the worst Star Wars characters ever created. At least it was just a clone, only appeared in one scene(-ish), and never spoke. Really, one of the few questionable moments in the otherwise amazing Thrawn Trilogy.

Jeez, Star Wars is just full of jank, ain't it? Like, with all the memes running rampant, who in the world thought it was a good idea to name a place "Highground"?!

You succeeded, and I can't wait to see more.

Hahah, thanks. I might have something of an idea...

xZKPwI2Qi_CjvKnI9i4isBLVqoGvllplFIS7EkjbD0BD6cIscutKnAC4GX6SK48xGZIHQRzt7VQX2htAc9iD4HHvCcEYGxNS1hfqrMAuWIhETHFBhj-U6Wggp_Cr78v9wjeyX61T

Heheh... poor, poor Lentzenheimer.

...Y'know? A weapon that was corrupted by its wielder instead of the other way around would be a pretty neat twist, either as a small or a major plot point in a story.

Yeah, it's an idea that has potential.

Heck, if I had some way to screenshot 3DS games, and my life was less random (helped my parents build a compost pile for 3-4 hours last Saturday, for example), I would probably be Lets Playing it right now.

It's great fun, but it can be time consuming, sadly. I'm a lazy arsehole, though, so I can afford it.

It was one of those mistakes where I knew that I had an interesting game on my hands.

I was not disappointed.

Hahahah, now you'll have to give ME the credit when you actually do it! Fame and glory are nearly within my grasp! Hwahah, ahaha, AAAAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA--

Eh, I don't mind short updates. Means I spend less time writing these.

No kidding. You had a grand total of five lines to say about the update itself. This has to be the most fucked up replies-to-comments ratio in any of your replies thus far.

Sooooo will the blood stain be permanent or temporary?

Nah, temporary. If you were in his place, you'd change clothes with all haste, right? I mean... no, you'd be almost dead like him, but still. You get my point.

I know that it's not a terribly complex thing to do, but this is still one of the better reasoning I've seen for why certain characters are present in the story but can't participate in gameplay in a while.

Hahah, thanks a lot, mate.

Fair point, but granted, don't most Fire Emblem protagonists do the same thing at least once or twice?

Yes, and it's not any better when they do it. It's just that they usually tend to do... good things, on top of that one bad thing? What's Holmes done all game? Fuck all and jack shit, that's what.

They do look playable, I agree. And a golden "green" knight would be another unique addition to the archetype.

Alas, 'twas not to be. Instead of Pike Parker, we got... Arkis. Urgh!

Well, it was about time the enemy exploited the staff. Without resorting to cheap self-teleportation, that is.

Baaahh...

However, I do believe the enemy exploits warp and rewarp staves in Thracia. I'll have to see for myself, but I'm pretty sure they do at some point.

That is perfect map design. It's so damn obvious... yet the fact that you can either have Zeke and company side with or against you gives it a level of depth.

I guess so. That detail makes it better than all the skirmishes. All of them. Still, I'll take a Chapter Douglas over that any day.

I have a dark sense of humor sometimes myself, given the fact I'm prone to get a laugh out of the Darwin awards. Then again, try not to laugh at stupidity on this level.

https://darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1996-07.html

I like how the article tells you a guy cut off his own head, which is bad enough (if morbidly hilarious), and then goes "nah actually it was another guy that fucking decapitated his pal over a drunken bet".

Basically, the character would have been a pun on the Viet Cong from the Vietnam war, and their method of fighting... guerilla warfare. For some reason I've never been able to sell Nintendo on it. (Most notably the fact I've never actually tried). It's just the puns write themselves.

Positively medieval.

#54 seems a little low. We should be approaching 4 digits at this stage.
Hahahahah, that so. That so.

To be fair, Runan nearly killed him there with Norton. Him getting away is just delaying the inevitable.

He'd get a win-lose section which reflects knocking Holmes out.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Of course he would!

"Everyone who disagrees with me is a Horseman: The Saint Rubenio guide to arguing"
Man, it's even more hilarious when somebody else says it. Just hysterical.

It's like Kaga decided to get everyone back for warpskipping in prior games.
I never warpskip! Leave me alone, you crazed Chinese person!

...it's a good thing he probably cannot read english and has no time nor desire to read this piece of crap thread. Otherwise, I can only imagine he'd steal my portrait and make him the prologue villain of the next Vestaria Saga part.

...and I'd love him for it, so maybe I should hope he can read my insults. Hey, Kaga! You're an... sarcophagus!

What you're telling me is that... the full force of the Imperial Army does not exist? They don't have a full force? That changes nothing, Holmes was still craptastically wrong! Fuck 'em!

Yeah. Funny how that directly comes back to bite him in the case of Plegia, but we never hear about Valm again even though he pretty much does the same thing. Sequel to Awakening where that comes back to bite him anyone?

More sequels to Archanea? Eh, dunno. The good cast died thousands of years before Awakening. I cannot imagine adding even more years to the pile would help.

Sorry, Hawky, but naked rabbit waifu <<<< admirable hero with cancer I cry every time.
I wrote it out to something around the 30 mark to prove my point back in the day. The catch with finding the correct odd number to add was exactly why the calculator is much more effective even with the knowledge... kind of making it obsolete out of the box. While it's a relatively quick way to do this... it's just not practical.

Eh, I'll write it down to impress people and take all the credit! Hwahahaha, positively machiavellian! BWAAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAAAHAAAHAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Damnit, stubbed my toe! Aaaack! AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRGH!!

Agreed.

Pretty sure that's how the cursed weapons tend to work in this game (from when you get so many kills with the weapon), but I could be remembering that wrong. I recall that shopkeep had the ability to use them without the curse affecting him for some reason. Likely Kaga being a troll putting it on an NPC.

Not the shopkeep, Zieg. Just another incentive to lure you into using him.

The shopkeep's just useless. I honestly have no idea why he even got a unique portrait.

There's SF Emblem though.

That's why I brought it up.

Ah, yes, that. I've seen it. Gave joining in a thought, but I don't believe I'd fit in there. I mostly stick to my LPs and lurk everywhere else. The guys in that project are among the biggest names in this forum right now (or at least they're names I recognize due to seeing them everywhere). Unless somebody wants to pitch in and ask for me to be added as the prologue boss (which would make me feel most honored), I don't think I'll join that thing. I do wish the best of luck to the people involved, of course.

I guess it slipped my mind.

That it did.

I'm pretty sure Thracia has BB beat, sorry.

Sadly, yes. These bosses are even more bland than I remembered, barring a couple of exceptions.

Also, I dare you to kill Rein, sparing him's easier than you think.

Son of a-- I will not bite!

Good luck.

I am not pretending I got it legit.

Eheheh... that... that is not reassuring in the least...

It's him but a bit older.

Meeeh... still don't really see it, but I guess it miiight work if you look hard enough...?

I still think that's Safy more

(Also, her name's Safiya now? Jeez, remind me of one of the worst units why don't you?)

Yes, that's it. Personally like it better, myself, but I suppose I don't have years of playing with the old patch. Mainly because the old patch was the very reason I had never played Thracia till now.

Is won't need my help.

They're probably trying to figure out how to introduce Judgral seasonals, but when they do, I'd bet he'd be up there.

It'll be three Reinhardt alts and summer Mareeta, not despite but because she's underage.

It's-a Papa Luigi!

Ahahahahahahahahahahah, dammit old memes are the best.

As this is part of my Attrom=Alm jokes, I'm leaving it as just that.

Sure, why not.

Maybe it was a lie to (barely) comfort Lentzenheimer.

Why'd he want to do that? Why'd anyone want to do that?!

Wait, what?

I might need a visual aid on this.

Runan Selius. That's... that's all there's to it. It's his surname, that's all.

Nope.

With Three Houses, you are the teacher the boi's hot for.

I mean, even if the option's there, I doubt I'd hook up with Generic Anime Girl #1 through 12. Or Manuela, for that matter.

...if there are women in Jeralt's merc band, though, that may be the place to look.

Lee's not so RIP.

Neat.

Right?

Wait, is this just you adding details?

Pretty plausible too.

Thank you. Yes, I made all of that up. I figured it's a fitting explanation as to how the old guy survived, and it also gives them both some backstory.

Letenna's "Don't pity me!" line has its limits, especially here.

I tried to keep it in-character, though perhaps that was a bit too much...

You Lee can shut it though.

Just be glad neither of you died.

Old people tend to do that. Remember how Eugen said he wanted to die in battle? And also how he wanted to betray Lionhea--

That's some effort for a group that could be a group in Sonic Heroes.

I was going to tell you not to insult my guys, but... jeez, you're right. As units, Frost is lame, Matthis isn't very far ahead, and Arran's a Jeigan on his deathbed. And here they are, soloing a map off-screen. Isn't author bias just amazing.

Equally generic you mean. I'd say they'd be the most generic playable Cain/Abels. And that counts Thracia's, who literally have no lines other than what every unit has in Thracia.

Ahahahahahahahah... Yeah...

Speaking of those, I'm using Kane. Yeah. Alba died protecting Hannibal's villa, though. Robert got the hell outta dodge after handing over his bow to Selphina.

That doesn't mean their writing's generic though, pfft.

I'll admit it is, but at least it isn't originally infuriating like Holmes's.

>Kaga gives the Warp staff.

>Everyone warpskips, ensuring they survive his BS

>Kaga's response.

My response.

It only counts if they warp an enemy in in Holmes to kill him.

Kaga's found the loophole, lol.

...ah, blistering barnacles, you're right! I'd be fine with that! Nooooo Kaga damn youuuuuuuuuuuu!

Well, yes, yes they can. 'Cause they got this. They weren't kidding: she's going to be using that beautiful warp staff to warp troops in. H-Hey, it's... it's better, right...? At least this time, it doesn't... doesn't just happen to be the unlucky number 13, eh...? it's... it's not quite like the u-universe is... laughGgYAhHHing at... me...

This is unbelievable.

One of the thread's favorites, gone. To a 1.38%.

Vk3xt0bz o

And we just lost Mel, too...! You know why?! BECUASE MOTHERFUCKIN' KAGA DID PENT AND LOUISE FIRST, THAT'S WHY! IF ONE OF THESE FUCKERS DIES, THE OTHER LEAVES THE PARTY, NEVER TO RETURN! No, no, no, no, no NO, NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO NOT GO AS BADLY AS FE6! I SOMEHOW MANAGED TO BOTCH THIS ONE UP EVEN WORSE! Y'KNOW WHY?! 'CAUSE IN FE6 I LOST A THOUSAND PEOPLE, FOR SURE, BUT I ALWAYS HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH HEALERS! FROM NEXT CHAPTER ONWARDS, I'M GOING TO HAVE EXACTLY 2 HEALERS FOR 2 ROUTES: LEE, AND FUCKING PLUM OF ALL PEOPLE! PLUM! SHE CAN'T EVEN USE THE PACES A-- AH, FUCK THAT, PHYSIC! HOW AM I GOING TO WIN THE GAME LIKE THIS!? HOW, HOW DID I MANAGE TO LOSE EXACTLY THE WORST POSSIBLE PEOPLE I COULD'VE LOST?! WHY COULDN'T IT BE VEGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!?!

DON'T YOU DARE...!

I can't even take pleasure in your demises. Becuase you've completely ruined me. This is it, that's been TRS, folks. I can't win anymore. Not without healing.

F7yjkmk9 o

I know I said I was going to reset if I lost any more healers, but fuck that. I mean, I'm playing Thracia! At this point, all that's left for me is to learn how to tie a proper knot!

And even then, I'm sure the ceiling would just collapse and leave me with nothing but a severe butt pain, because I'm so very lucky, God damnit!

Sierra...! None of this would've happened if she hadn't missed that first shot at Pike! If she'd nailed him, then I would've been able to finish him off in the player phase, and then he wouldn't have been able to cripple The Roger, and then I wouldn't have singlehandedly lost the LP to a friggin' 1.38% chance!

Ohohohahah! Ah, yes. This is fine. Everything is fine. Speed cap rammed, folks. That's three stats capped thus far. Keep going.

And there we go, back to full.

Di7blnie o

Sigh... time to take a look at the boss and see how we're next going to die horribly.

N8f6mifv oLwhcs6b4 oPzodr2re o

Xyon, ladies and gentlemen. He has Wrath to kill us in one hit, Pavise to deny one of every four of our attacks, Nihil so we can't even Wrath him back, protection against magic, protection against arrows, protection against-- fuckin' everything, a lance that has 20 might and heals him every time it hits something, he flies, he MOVES...

What's that? You thought perhaps that was enough dick-moves? Hah! Wishful thinking, you idiots! No rest for the weary! Death, more death! That's what Kaga wants! My death!

Oyeztxxz oEsdatfps o

We'll deal with Xyon in a minute. Somehow. For now, it's disappointment time: a Maruj level.

Tz8kje9k o

Ehhhh that's not bad, actually! I'm dumbstruck! This cannot be, something's going to happen, he's going to die, I just know it.

Jjqr4f4y oKqukhjij o

After them! Don't let anybody live, just like they didn't let the best Paladin live!

Pscg4fe0 o

Hmm... might as well. Although, in hindsight, I shouldn't have pressed my luck. Knowing Kaga, using Earthquake in this chapter could've perfectly triggered a hidden event that'd cause a tsunami, killing everyone near the sea. A.K.A. half my team.

Z2fbgptk o

Thankfully, all this does is make the screen tremble a bit. I made the best GIF I could of it.

Everyone but Xyon (since he's flying, makes sense) takes some damage.

Afpxowvu o

Player phase, he ruins the Archer's day. Just like his pals ruined my day.

Hro9djir o

Sigh... still trying to cope with the fact that this is going to be my only healer for the last chunk of the game.

Hf6odt1k o

Although... hm. She's only one mastery away from being able to Pace a-Hundred Yet Still I Heal. Maybe she'll manage before today's over...? I mean, it's a 20% growth, it's not that low.

Then again, Runan has the same defense growth, and if her last level is anything to go by... urrrk...

Iy0blaqs o

Oh, that clever bastard... the High Mage ran into Xyon's range! Come here and fight, coward!

Ylub6apl o

...aaah, fiddlesticks, now he's got 30 crit on Shig.

H4sbriaa o

I'm going to try to have Holmes and Garo take out the healer while Xyon's distracted. The last thing we need is Xyon getting healed to full after missing with the nosferatank.

Nrxbqoov o

Hey.

HEY HEY HEY! NO! HE'S GOING AFTER THE MORTALS! NO, NO, GO BACK TO DULLY, YOU ASSHOLE!

Ljb6g4aw o

He... didn't move all the way, though. Huh.

...oh, that's a house. I think I get it, he was going for some healing. Why he didn't attack Shigen for that is beyond me, but as the saying goes, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth". Or, Wyvern, in this case.

Ajqnqs2z o

Garo gets quadruped, but to no avail.

Kjfbeq7s o

He even healed back up thanks to the house! Hwah!

Ah, that counter's stayed still for too long, hasn't it? Add another notch to it.

Idknntju oSbdkovsb o18cqxjc3 o

And now, you go down!

Mz1mbmsn o

While Shigen and Garo fight, Plum's trying to scrape up some experience. That's a level. Is it too much to ask that you don't disappoint me, Plum? It is, isn't it?

Vrldmuo6 o

Oh, wow. That's... exactly what I wanted. I cannot believe it! Way to go, Plum. Maybe there's even some hope left, after all.

En1k8qna o

Hand over your stuff, Mel. Pretty sure you'll leave it all behind, but still, I want to take no chances.

And now she has an emerald next to her HP. Neat.

F7aaq8qe o

All right, with that done, Holmes'll--

...wait... is that...?

Surely they wouldn't let me...!

Dltnfkii o

AH! IT WAS A TRAP! ANOTHER XYON HAS ENTERED THE MAP!

Kjcheiak o

...eh?

Nzki4hre oTheodora?! What are you talking about, Sis? What's happening back home?

E6ckxgxj oSophia has declared independence! Princess Resshea has declared war on the Empire and has allied herself with the northern rebellion under Prince Sennet!

F4aswdy8 o Sennet! Sennet again! That man! Once again he makes my life better from the other side of the continent! Oh, do I love that guy!

Nzki4hre oPrince Sennet is alive--and Princess Resshea has declared a revolt?! What in the world is going on? No, most importantly, what about our duty to Prince Julius?

E6ckxgxj oHis Majesty has given us his blessing to go fight for Sophia's independence. Come, let's go to Her Highness's side! Princess Resshea needs us! Prince Julius assured me he will be able to take care of things here by himself.

V6ttpy0x o

Nzki4hre oLead the way, Sis!

E6ckxgxj oRight! To the new Kingdom of Sophia!

70m4vdb1 o4gy4n296 o

And so, every enemy left alive not named Renee (read, the Bishop) blinks out of existance for some reason, and...

Vtrynktg o

They're off. The boss of the map, the honorable knight I've been seeking to spare... just leaves if you seize while he's away.

Thank you, Kaga. Thank you for being merciful, for once. This almost begins to make up for the other thing that happened today. Almost-- okay, no, it doesn't. It doesn't even begin to, you big chinese dick!

...I have no idea what to do about this. I highly doubt reviving Roger will bring back Mel, and as much as it pains me to admit it, San will be able to do his job just fine as soon as she promotes (heck, better, even). But then, who do I revive? Attrom for the extra healer? Juliattisnacordst, so I can go back to saying Juliattisnacordst? The Roger was as much fun! This is the worst casualty I could've possibly suffered, so of course I go and let him die! Gaaaahhh...

If you'll excuse me, I need to cry in a corner. Next time, plot and we get to kick Lentzie's ass again. Hopefully, with less death involved than in the last two chapters, but something tells me that won't quite be the case. I hope you fare better than Lee or The Roger have. Goodbye...

Well, crap. Mel down, Renee down and neither can be fixed by the Dakroon. This is very not great.

While I don't expect reviving Roger will bring back Mel... well, if the game doesn't bring Mel back, it still has to account for only one of them being around for the ending. Worst case scenario is that this issue is resolved by preventing the player from resurrecting either of them. Well, let's see how this goes.

Also, this was actually done first with Cuan and Ethlin back in FE4.

You know, super shortly after you posted that last update was when I decided to take a quick skim through it and see how things were going, with the thoughts going through my head being "Man last time I did a quick skim he wasn't doing too badly and not many people had died!" And now I come in to see The Roger The Paladin has sadly fallen.

Noooooo how could you! His name is my middle name and everything! And wow that sucks that you have to lose Mel too, and on such a tiny chance of it as well. At the very least, I'm glad to see Garo doing so well! You better not get him killed now too, you hear? Also I see Lee at least dead on a certain route too and man some of the people I wanted used aren't doing so hot are they? I still need to fully catch up and do a lot of the story reading, though I've done some brief skimming here and there and seen some of it at least, especially the OC scenes. I fully plan on catching up and reading stuff, so looking forward to diving back in once (if) I get some good time.

I guess so. That detail makes it better than all the skirmishes. All of them. Still, I'll take a Chapter Douglas over that any day.

I keep forgetting sarcasm doesn't read well over the internet. Though I'll admit, it is a mechanic that makes use of the overworld map better than virtually anything else in the game.

I just got to watch two of my three favourites die in two maps. Even the solace taken from one being a non-canon death is little. Too sad for witticism now.

So I did the Hunger Games simulator a few times for the heck of it yesterday. Despite being years old at this point, I really wish I tried it out earlier, as there are a ton of gems to be had in this game:

Runy Smile scares Anachronistic Glasses Son

(Didn't have the time to insert pictures, and I kinda regret that. I also was testing out the nicknames function of the simulator.)

Runy Smile hunts for other tributes.

Fox throws a knife into Bad Protagonist's chest.

Which, if it had pictures, would mean:

I feel like this is so exploitable...

I would probably add more, but I'm blanking on bad protagonists at the moment.

Runy Smile convinces Fox to snuggle with him.

Sadly, the Runy Smile only killed one person. Meanwhile, the Fox killed nine.

I was thinking about putting "made the galaxy a living hellhole" but really that depended on where you lived and what race you were. And Palpatine was willing to let criminal organizations reign if it was too his benefit, while Lentzenheimer would let them be out of incompetence. I guess I was trying to say that Palpatine would make sure we was always in control no matter what happened, while, well, we all now what happened to Lentzenheimer.

Pretty sure that's how the cursed weapons tend to work in this game (from when you get so many kills with the weapon), but I could be remembering that wrong. I recall that shopkeep had the ability to use them without the curse affecting him for some reason. Likely Kaga being a troll putting it on an NPC.

Why did IS decide to give the shopkeeper exclusive abilities? Every time you protect them from risen, they can barely fight, but the one time you fight them as an enemy, and they have exclusive abilities. Thanks, IS, for not only stealing from Kaga, but multiplying his bullcrap

...Man, they reused a few names from Fire Emblem Gaiden, didn't they?

10 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

I have no idea how it works. Perhaps I'll find out a couple months from now.

It's like rescue, except the other unit joins the other character instead of having to be picked up, the stats go up instead of down, you can swap between the two units at any time, and there's a chance that the other character will attack the enemy and/or block and incoming attack. A neat mechanic that opens up several strategic options, but you can definitely tell it was IS's first time implementing it.

Flat was the word I was looking for. Thanks for that. As for Dorothea... well, the game has "Suggestive Themes" on the rating. Fates had it, but so did Echoes, and I'm placing bets that the fanservice will be more like the latter than the former. As for Sothis... Yeah let's just hope they actually have a good twist this time around with her and it's not just Nowi 2.0.

And those are just two examples, flier-against-flier battles take place entirely in the sky, it's incredible how good they look. And don't get me started on magic. Ooohhh...

Or the Jedi would have brought him to justice faster than the Millenium Falcon can do the Kessel Run. If the bounty hunters didn't get to Lentzenheimer first. I could imagine someone putting a bounty on his head just for existing.

Sorry, Hawky, but naked rabbit waifu <<<< admirable hero with cancer I cry every time.

Several points:

  1. I do not have a waifu, I never had a waifu, and I never will have a waifu.
  2. I like Panne because she is a badass bunny that kicks some serious butt. I also enjoy her character, she provides some decent lore for the Taguel, and there are really around 2 or 3 supports of hers that I'm not fond of.
  3. I like shapeshifters.
  4. It was the first (and honestly only) thing that caught me off guard in Awakening (aside from a-hole reinforcements). I thought the game was an okay magical medieval land, and then BAM! They throw a unique looking shapeshifter in there... even if I originally thought she looked like the cross between a mole and a rat.
    1. Speaking of which, the chapter she appears in is my favorite one in the game. Lots of important story moments occur, you recruit two solid characters, and the map is a pretty fun pseudo-defense level.
  5. If there was DLC to give her pants, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
    1. Although I would buy any DLC that makes the characters more modest.
  6. Lugaru proved to me that bunnies can be badass, and that blood is an oddly fitting color for them.
  7. Any badass bunny is a win in my books.
  8. It allows me to say the rare sentence of "my strongest unit is a last of their kind shape-shifting bunny that is the last of their kind and they're riding a dragon in a blouse".
  9. I love that I can simultaneously take the Taguel seriously and embrace how ridiculous the entire concept is.
  10. I understand your point completely, and really need to go to a game shop and buy Shadow Dragon already.

Her AI's a bit wonky there, so she won't do the smart thing and prioritize Pike, but still, you definitely need to haul ass. Infinite move miniboss isn't something you want to let happen.

How very much like Kaga. He presents you the only warp staff in the game, and then gives it to the AI, who will waste it on warping unworthy units.

Your Thracia talk here:

Spoiler

Spoiler

Yeah, Leif's much better than Roy, why'd you think I said that line earlier on in this very LP? Also, shit RIP Brighton, I might have left him fall off a bit but he was useful alright. That kid who gives nothing needs a certain unit to come to that house and you get a pretty good item out of it.

Yeah, Hicks is actually pretty good and him being last in CYL1 shouldn't stop him from being useful. I must confess he was miles behind near the end. 1 arena abuse later he'd capped nearly everything (Scrolls are hella abuseable if you know what you're doing.), which nobody else had. Unfortunately because how capture and rescue works he couldn't be used that chapter and the endgame made him not as useful as I'd hoped. Asvel doesn't need build actually barring capture because magic doesn't check against build in combat sadly. Also, you got Oisin killed. You bastard! Salem's also one I didn't get to use much, but his staff access was handy.

As for story, yeah the main villains aren't all that great, among the weaker ones in the series as a whole, but not because they're just bad as villains but because they're underutilised and don't do enough to stand out in the end (Reydrik's suitably awful as a person and is such a trecharous asshole that he's the reason Kalf was betrayed in the battle that saw Leif and Finn become refugees). The more personal tone really works for best lord Leif however and you get to see that all the way through, I like that the most about Thracia's story.

Also, there are some new names that I prefer, such as the new name for Sleuf. Sleuf's a really french-sounding name, delicate, smooth, almost like you're saying literal white roses. But with Project Exile comes SCHLOFF, motherfucking MENSCH from GERMANY that's a TITSUCKING BADASS and a PUSSY-MAGNET, and his NAME needs to be YELLED like all GERMAN names like SCHRÖDINGER! Other than that mostly generic (the wyvern boss in chapter 8 aside imo)

And the latter half has some pretty damm fine minor bosses imo. Maybe not on Barbarossa/Ahab tier, but still.

What's that? You thought perhaps that was enough dick-moves? Hah! Wishful thinking, you idiots! No rest for the weary! Death, more death! That's what Kaga wants! My death!

That is one beastly boss for you.

Moving too. How brutal of Kaga.

But then, who do I revive? Attrom for the extra healer? Juliattisnacordst, so I can go back to saying Juliattisnacordst? The Roger was as much fun! This is the worst casualty I could've possibly suffered, so of course I go and let him die! Gaaaahhh...

Wait, this was on the A route right?

Are you seriously counting it then?

Also, would it be possible you might not be able to get Lyria?

Night-night, knight.

Plum saw Mel run off when her boyfriend died, and knew that she was already the better healer.  After all, she lost her brother, was sold into slavery, and still manages to fight!  So GO PLUM!

You forgot to factor in Sierra's chance of missing pike on turn one so it's actually even lower than that.

If we're going that far (as in including attacks separate to that one), you may as well throw in the chance of The Roger getting a crit on the guy before this one. All in all, insane levels of bad luck. I can't tell if Ruben low-key pissed off some sort of cosmically powerful entity. Either that or he shattered every mirror in a 50 mile radius and crosses the paths of black cats thrice daily while walking under ladders.

Part 56 - A dumbass in shining armor.

Hey, everybody! I lost Dagdar to the bullshit reinforcements in Tahra. 8 Sorcerers that double you because of Accost when you've no magic isn't nice. Sadly, it was the last turn, Asbel had gotten move and Hicks had managed to solo half the map and Paulus, so I wasn't about to reset.

So yeah. Lost Thracia's best unit. Just telling you this so you know that I don't pretend to be bad to make these things more entertaining. I'm just bad, period.

Also, I recruited Xavier without any sleep swords. Anybody who knows how Xavier's recruitment goes will know how much of an idiot I am for trying that. My dancer died for it, and it took two hours and abuse of the emulator's rewind feature, but y'know what? Green Dougy. I regret nothing!

One last tidbit about Thracia before moving on to the matters at hand. The other day, I found somebody really... interesting, just hanging out with some Loptous Sorcerers in the dark.

Well, crap. Mel down, Renee down and neither can be fixed by the Dakroon. This is very not great.

Very not great? Understatement of the year! It's awful!

While I don't expect reviving Roger will bring back Mel... well, if the game doesn't bring Mel back, it still has to account for only one of them being around for the ending. Worst case scenario is that this issue is resolved by preventing the player from resurrecting either of them. Well, let's see how this goes.

I did some research on this, and I came up with a three year old thread where somebody was asking this exact question - you, actually! Sadly, nobody replied to you. Well, perhaps we'll find out now, three years after the fact.

Also, this was actually done first with Cuan and Ethlin back in FE4.

Kaga still did it first.

You sure picked the perfect time to return. What were the chances? It's like us LPers are doomed to have shitty-ass luck!

Then again, I was just playing Thracia 776 and Ilios got a full level (except for build, but eh) that included mov. No scrolls. Maybe it has to do with going on record about it?

Noooooo how could you! His name is my middle name and everything!

Dude, you think I wanted to lose him!? Did you see the maths!? And that wasn't even right, as Pengaius remarked, I didn't take Sierra missing Pike into account! The chance of losing The Roger was below 1%, and it still happened!

And wow that sucks that you have to lose Mel too, and on such a tiny chance of it as well. At the very least, I'm glad to see Garo doing so well! You better not get him killed now too, you hear?

Ah, you've no reason to worry about him. Garo is Holmes's best man!

Hey, take your time, this thread's here for entertainment, I don't mean to push anybody.

You were still Mad-manakete when I wrote these replies. That must be confusing for those who've seen you around frequently. Be sure to direct them to this LP for explanations so I get views!

I keep forgetting sarcasm doesn't read well over the internet. Though I'll admit, it is a mechanic that makes use of the overworld map better than virtually anything else in the game.
I got the sarcasm, don't worry. I just wanted to mention Chapter Douglas because I love saying Chapter Douglas.

Should have known. That's a typical Kaga troll.

Hmmm... I think I get Kaga's strategy now. Put on your tinfoil hats, all, it's time for a crackpot theory.

So, you know how all of Kaga's games have craptastic unit balance... except for one, Berwick Saga - the game that came out right after this one! In Kaga's games, overpowered units breaking everything in half and leaving behind the scrubs is a common sight. Going into this game, you of course except the same to happen. After Narron, Raffin, Lee, etc. you've no reason to suspect this game's going to be any different than all of Kaga's previous outings.

So when Zieg's suspicious ass recruits himself in a really strange manner (notice how he's the only Gerxelian that joins aside from Sierra, who joins in vastly different circumstances? How he's got no connections to anybody in the cast aside from Raffin, who claims he doesn't recognize him?), you just think this is Kaga being bad at game design again. Little do you know, you're already ensnared in Kaga's web...

His trap successfully deployed, Kaga was free to become the master of balance he truly was all along, and he went on to make Berwick Saga, where there's a grand total of one bad unit (and that's for story reasons), and where every single unit has some sort of niche or skill that separates them from rest of the cast.

...man, Kaga spent a decade playing some serious 4D chess. I'm... quite impressed!

Are you secretly Jerme?
You mean not-Kenneth-so-can't-be-bothered?

No, but I was nearing his levels of sanity (or rather lack thereof) at that point.

Fucking crits. I salute you Roger.

Urk... so do I.

...gaaaaah stop! I feel bad enough!

I just got to watch two of my three favourites die in two maps. Even the solace taken from one being a non-canon death is little. Too sad for witticism now.

Well, shit. Good thing Tom can't die, eh. Assuming it's Tom, I think it's a pretty safe guess.

Ah, but not to worry. It appears The Roger has reincarnated in you. It's "The Roger The Paladin The Mad The Manakete" now.

Hahahahah, oh, poor Holmes. Also, the Desert Fox is a brilliant joke. Totally didn't see that coming, you genius.

Sadly, the Runy Smile only killed one person. Meanwhile, the Fox killed nine.

I hope Runy went down fighting, at least! With that Sol sword, it must've taken quite a bit of punishment to take him down.

I think we can all agree in one thing: Lentzie's awful. Let's take his other eye.

Why did IS decide to give the shopkeeper exclusive abilities? Every time you protect them from risen, they can barely fight, but the one time you fight them as an enemy, and they have exclusive abilities. Thanks, IS, for not only stealing from Kaga, but multiplying his bullcrap

I love how you've all started to confuse Zieg for the one generic shopkeep now. If I was that shopkeep, I'd be really pissed.

Vega will never live that down, will he?

Oh, you've no idea...

So who's speed, power, and flying?

Arran's a Horseman in this timeline, so let's say he's speed. Matthis is obviously power, and flying would have to be Albertus because dragon.

Then there's Frost, who's... is there such a thing as "support" in that game?

I thought she lived in a warren... So I take it that IS reusing names isn't new? Who am I kidding? There was a Wolf in FE1 and a Wolf in FE2, as well as a Barth in FE2 and FE6. Garcia was a summoner in FE2 and a fighter in FE8...

...Man, they reused a few names from Fire Emblem Gaiden, didn't they?

There's also a Wolf in FE5. They sure did love that name.

Though, to be fair, Panne's not his (yes, his) only name. He's sometimes Perne. Other times he's Pahn. Then there's days when he calls himself Pan, or Pirn.

My point is, he makes no sense.

Also, no, IS didn't start reusing names in modern FE, they already did it more than a couple of times in the past. There's two Arthurs, two Leons, two Cains, three Lindas (counting the new one), three Ninas (again, counting the new one from Awakening)...

One thing I will say in the old games' defense (and I hope I dont come across as an elitist for it) is that it seems in the older days they made more of an effort than they do nowadays to at least corrupt the names a little so they aren't quite the same. Linda I was changed to Linde in the remakes to separate her from FE4!Linda, FE8 had Artur unlike FE4 which had Arthur, FE8's Leon had a "y" instead of an "e", FE5's Cain was Kain/Kane instead (and he was also green instead of red), the second Nina was named Nino and the first was changed to Nyna in the remakes... it's with the more recent titles that they've said "fuck it, let's just reuse all the names! All of them!" and don't bother to even change one letter anymore.

Seriously, though, was it so hard to name the guy with the ugly hair Lawrence instead of Lorenz? Lorenz isn't even one of the many Literal Whos from Archanea, he's one of its more major characters, compared to, well, all the Literal Whos! I could understand if they forgot about, say, Vyland, but Lorenz!?

It's like rescue, except the other unit joins the other character instead of having to be picked up, the stats go up instead of down, you can swap between the two units at any time, and there's a chance that the other character will attack the enemy and/or block and incoming attack. A neat mechanic that opens up several strategic options, but you can definitely tell it was IS's first time implementing it.

...why would they take an overpowered mechanic with exactly one downside, and turn the downside around into an upside?!

Flat was the word I was looking for. Thanks for that.

Took me a while to find it, as well.

As for Dorothea... well, the game has "Suggestive Themes" on the rating. Fates had it, but so did Echoes, and I'm placing bets that the fanservice will be more like the latter than the former.

Echoes, fanservice? B-b-b-but the women have A C T U A L   A R M O R

Which to me is way sexier than... whatever Camilla's nonsense is supposed to be, but eh, details.

As for Sothis... Yeah let's just hope they actually have a good twist this time around with her and it's not just Nowi 2.0.

I don't know, I mean, have you seen her official artwork? Y'know, the one where she shows leg like she's a cheap corner prostitute? Yeah... I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Now, if they have her turn out to be a completely insane psycopath obsessed with killing that tries to seduce Byleth to then kill him/her in a blaze of murderous lust, they'd win my respect. I know it sounds bonkers, and it is, but man would that catch the lolicons off-guard.

...I probably should close my trap before the forum's taken by the FBI, shouldn't I.

Hence the "generally".

Yes, of course, I just wanted to make that joke. I love the Sabre Knights, y'know? Leiden was my first LP's hero!

*Insert Jaw Drop Gif, because most of them loose impact without sound*

Y'know? I once watched a top ten list of what someone wanted for Fire Emblem Switch, back when all we knew was that it was in development. I didn't give much thought to it at the time when they said they wanted sprite based animations to return.

But after watching that...

Image result for i have a mighty need

I know, right? And like I said, you haven't seen anything. Here's the game's intro, for instance. Yeah. Aethin recorded the translated version, but the audio's wonky, so I'm linking it separatedly. All that changes is the initial text, anyhow. You can mute Aethin's video and let the japanese one run in the background. Believe me, you'll like the result.

Also, Berwick music is awesome.

Boy, if you think that's awesome, I've got some great news for you.

Heck, just listen to this! This is the normal battle theme - the normal battle theme! That could perfectly pass off as the lategame boss theme in a normal FE!

In comparison, Three houses animations, well...

You know, I've got to wonder how they managed to screw up so badly that they made Byleth's coat sleeves follow the movements of his own arms. I can understand when that happens in last century games' trenchcoats, but this...? The sleeves are completely detached from his body! It makes no sense, it's like they made his arms and his coat's arms a single entity, even though they're miles apart! What the hell!?

Meanwhile, here's Berwick handling a simple talking scene. (the textbox glitches aren't there anymore, the video's got a kinda old version of the patch it seems) Just... look at the whole thing. The game goes nuts over a simple talking scene!

And then you compare the character designs and it's just... there's no contest, man. Well, in my humble opinion, of course. If you like the bloated, nonsense ballroom dresses the 3H cast wears, I can respect that, but... man, do I FAIL to understand you.

I know I sound like a huge fanboy every time somebody mentions this game (usually it's me, too), but... can you blame me, honestly?

Haven't watched the show, and every game I've played that has alchemy uses it to make potions and things of

...things of... magic?! As I thought. I am winner is me!

The ones where I reply to two updates at once come close, but I have to agree that that was probably the least I commented on an update thus far.

I mean, there wasn't much to comment on, was there.

Or the Jedi would have brought him to justice faster than the Millenium Falcon can do the Kessel Run. If the bounty hunters didn't get to Lentzenheimer first. I could imagine someone putting a bounty on his head just for existing.

That speaks wonders of how hateable the guy is.

Maybe. I think I would be amazed that I survived something like that and that I finally had some clothing that was stained in blood. I might actually keep it that way, as a reminder that I came close to death one day, and that we should not take life for granted.

I get your point, but you wouldn't wear that on a daily basis, would you?

You're welcome.

This looks like one of those web games that goes for full out insanity so that the player can relax after a long days work and see a flying tank dodge explosions.

Bwahahah... somebody needs to make this a thing.

Someone needs to get on it. Unless Indestructotank did it already.

Indestructotank. I was not aware there was a direct sequel to TRS... Berwick's more of a "fuckton of years later" deal, like awakening.

  10. I understand your point completely, and really need to go to a game shop and buy Shadow Dragon already

I like how you had a fanstroke, present 9 counterpoints, and then you just went "nah ya right fam, gotta play dem Marsgames".

Though, to be fair, Arran is only a character in FE12. But what a character. He has almost as much character as his hair. Almost.

It's a real mystery. Maybe they wanted to make a shopkeeper look like a playable character for once? I mean, they do it with bosses all the time in this game.

If so, they failed. I haven't the faintest idea how to recruit that guy, if it's possible.

You can't crush someone's hope if they don't have any first.

Ahahah... I like the way you think, my friend.

How very much like Kaga. He presents you the only warp staff in the game, and then gives it to the AI, who will waste it on warping unworthy units.

That's... precisely the point, yeah. Unless Attrom is dead. Then you just get to kill her. Disregard the fact that she set out to find Rishel (valid recruiter #1), which in turn caused Meriel to leave to search for her (valid recruiter #2), and also the fact that Holmes spent two chapters trying to save her (valid recruiter #3), as did Krishna (valid recruiter #4), and then there's the detail that she's actually Lionheart's new girlfriend (valid recruiter #5)...

Honestly, for such a major character with thousands of connections to other characters, it's baffling that she could only be recruited by one guy. He isn't even the most obvious choice out of all these! More than Krishna and Holmes, but Rishel and Meriel?! She set out to find Rishel, and Meriel set out to find her! Why can neither of them recruit her!? Lionheart, Lionheart was also shown to know her and be extremely worried about her back when Footballman was introduced! It makes perfect sense for him to recruit her, even if his exact relationship with her is only revealed after she's recruited! Why, Kaga, why!?!

Part of the reason you brought her to the map was just to say that, wasn't it?

Maybe. But the main reason was so she could get Pike out of the way quickly. A feat she completely failed to accomplish. Resulting in The Roger's death.

So it's bad with the "who", and good with the "where"?

Yes, that's it.

Maybe Parker Pike always wanted to say that, and is abusing a loophole with the distance traveled via warping.

Hahahah... I can believe that. Poor guy wanted to feel cool.

Looks like Parker his superhero name wrong.

Maybe he's saying that even in the storm, he swims true?

BWAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I know you meant to say "swings", but the idea of Pike Parker just swimming in the rain - literally swimming above the ground through the raindrops - is too hilarious.

Parker Pike showing that this spider fish isn't so easily caught.

So he's Fishman? Eh, I can live with that.

Arkis-- Arkis is as good as dead! Didn't you see him be captured by the little shit Lentzie!?

More replies in more spoilers!

Spoiler

Yeah, Leif's much better than Roy, why'd you think I said that line earlier on in this very LP?

I always knew he was better than Roy, but I always thought it wasn't by a very wide margin. I was truly mistaken! Leif's ten times better than Roy! Heck, I'd call him better than a couple other lords, just thanks to his sheer utility!

Also, shit RIP Brighton, I might have left him fall off a bit but he was useful alright. That kid who gives nothing needs a certain unit to come to that house and you get a pretty good item out of it.

Too bad about the house. And Brighton, but my Hicks turning out ridiculously well helped soften up the blow. He got move in 14x, y'know? Just saying.

My Hicks is hilarious, and he never even got scrolls.

Asvel doesn't need build actually barring capture because magic doesn't check against build in combat sadly.

Never knew that. Oh, well.

Also, you got Oisin killed. You bastard!

Pah. Hicks is better. Got Xavier for indoors, too. Well, will have. Ergh, I'm sure of it...

Salem's also one I didn't get to use much, but his staff access was handy.

I gave him Vantage. Everyone says dark magic is terrible, but Jormungand has pretty damn great might. 14 might is just 4 less than Thoron, and it's way more common. Not to mention, unless your name's Ilios Troy, you're never getting to A thunder. Heck, I've been having Asbel use thunder tomes all game and he hasn't made it to B! Is it just me, or do weapon ranks increase extremely slowly in this game?

The problem with Jormungand is that, since it tanks Salem's speed, it makes him rather vulnerable. However, with Vantage, he can erase the enemy before they even get a shot at him.

It's proving to be a pretty funny combination, if I do say so myself. Between that, his good defenses (which may have to do with scrolls) and rewarp, the guy's just way better than Asbel, Grafcalibur or no Grafcalibur.

Hey, I'll defend Raydric, if nothing else because the dialogue Cirosan wrote for him is amazing. It's Veld I've issues with.

Holy shit, that's who Shloff is?

So unfitting, but Shloff, Baron of Big Dick Energy is here I guess. 😛

Hey, it fits perfectly. Haven't you seen the guy? He looks permanently mad. Sleuf sounds like a name for the Lucius sort of monk.

Off to Advance Wars I guess?

Oh, please no. I could never get into that series.

I mean, so far there's Gomes who's actually pretty dang good when you realise who he's worked with the whole time and why he did what he did, Largo was alright enough in his chapter (I had to look his name up, sadly sprite variety's bad here too) and Lifis (Who's actually the worst). Other than that mostly generic (the wyvern boss in chapter 8 aside imo)

And the latter half has some pretty damm fine minor bosses imo. Maybe not on Barbarossa/Ahab tier, but still.

Largo's cool, I agree. Rumaigh's interesting, and then there's Paulus and Baldach, who are awesome (although Baldach really needed to not have the Largoface). I liked the guy who roasted Kempf and then went on to be the boss in Saias's chapter (yet another Largoface...). Honestly, the Largoface is the worst problem with Thracia's bossmen. It appears they forgot they had other faces to use!

I'm just saying that's not the hard part.

From experience.

... I do not like the sound of this.

I don't have that many years on it.

Just, her name's literally one vowel off Sophia's old name.

I don't know what that is, to be fair. I've always known her as Sophia.

Because if he said the truth, Lentzenheimer'd take a swipe and 80 crit's no joke?

Sure, unless he crit it'd be no issue. Just in case though.

Pretty sure Zieg could take it. And then he'd destroy Lentzie.

I mean I'd rather not either, but that's mainly because I'd rather not keep up that stereotype.

That and I know very little, I'm trying to avoid too much information beforehand.

I'm mostly sidestepping the info too, but mostly because every character bores me. I'm an elitist, yes. Now excuse me, I've got to go back to playing Berwick Saga, the hidden gem--

...oh shit I already finished the maps from the latest update NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I assumed.

Kaga making an event for Letenna aside from her family and Kreiss seemed unlikely.

Yes.

Ouch. Bit mean.

I was kind of thinking in gameplay. Matthis is the muscle, Arran is somehow fast and Frost throws magic at enemies. Close enough.

But how does Albertus factor into the whole thing? And Margaret?

Alba's dead.

Don't tell the Scots.

Can we just appreciate the fact that Alba is a female name in spanish?

Also, Robert seemed like he could have been good, but my only pure bow unit was Tanya (aka Ten-Move Tanya).

I've got Ronan and Selphina.

I was saying it wasn't generic. 😛

Hah, good point.

Good, let the hate flow through you.

Rrgh... I hate it when hate flows through me!

Of course, Tearring doesn't seem like its AI is designed to dogpile the lords.

Thank goo-- I mean, fuck, Holmes needs to die.

Also your undead are just fucked.

Yeah... all those undead I can't use because I've no healers who can summon. Or, just healers.

He's got a lot going for him. The Pike is not one for breaking easily.

(It's such as shame Parker's no more, the Spiderman jokes wrote themselves.)

I feel like somebody's said this already.

Because he tried to stab a storm with one once?

Hahahahahahah... he's such a smart boy.

Sierra doesn't have Dullahan, stop it!

Yeah, what he said!

Oh shit.

The Roger's rogered his last roger.

Dammit, you! Forced references aren't what I need right now! Have some sympathy!

He joins the club of the "Statistically Sigfinicant bullshit deaths" that Echidna and Treck manage.

It makes me sad that such a club exists.

I mean, I guess? He didn't do support convos in map though.

Hush

It could be worse. He still didn't cause Mel to leave immediately.

That's something. Too little, but... something.

Still, just in case you really need a dishonourable reset, I will not complain.

Nah. The show must go on.

5KTmRa89_o.png

That would be a shitty way of improving her stats.

Maybe, but it'd be a good way of decreasing my anger at her uselessness!

She's meant to take them in shot form, not suppository, they weren't tested for that.

Do I look like I care?

...jokes aside tho that got a chuckle out of me, thanks.

Torrential downpours?

At this time of year?

At this time of day?

In this part of the country?

Localized entirely within your bedroom?

...yes!

I think you need to put the bottle down Haddock.

What bottle?!

Here he comes to save the day!

Jeiganman!

This could be the theme song of my every LP, honestly.

Maybe get that blood clot checked.

The one you've likely developed from this map.

I've made friends with it, actually. Good fellow.

I mean, he's trying to be helpful.

Yes, it's not good Lionheart's fault. It's Kaga's fault.

That is one beastly boss for you.

Moving too. How brutal of Kaga.

Isn't he just a great person?

I mean, it's likely a quake on land rather than in the sea.

Also, the eternal jitter is just unsettling. Almost like everyone should be screaming in fear and being shook by it.

Well, they did suffer damage.

He got Luck at least.

I guess it's... something.

Garo's not actually a Loup-Garou, right?

It would explain his strength.

Ergh... maybe that's how he managed to solo all the enemies trying to kill Julia way back when.

Xyon: "NEVER!"

Blech...

Dullahan finally has to wake itself up.

A shame.

Yeah, what you said.

I guess this LP still has some fight left.

Even if this does split her utility.

Who cares! I hate that she's the dancer, anyway!

FOR ZOFIA- Shit, sorry, wrong Deliverance.

Yes.

Wait, this was on the A route right?

Are you seriously counting it then?

Yep. The only non-canon thing is 26A. This was already the good file with 26B.

Also, would it be possible you might not be able to get Lyria?

Pretty sure if I revive Attrom I'll be able to get her, but... why? She only has 3 mastery! She'd be the world's worst healer! I'm not in such a dire need for healers that SD!Maria is a worthy investment of my Dakruon uses! I still have one for each route. I can do it.

Also, the Dragon Lance does not actually recover HP on hit, only when being used. The actual "nosferalance" is used by a later boss, I think.

Ah, okay. Well, that's cool. I probably should've noticed he didn't recover any HP when he "killed" Shigen, but eh. I had other things in my mind at the time.

(also, don't even think about offing Maruj)

Oh, believe me, many, many things are above "offing Maruj" in my list of priorities. "Offing Arkis" would be one of them.

I mean, I have called Kaga chinese a few times...

Either that or he shattered every mirror in a 50 mile radius and crosses the paths of black cats thrice daily while walking under ladders.

I don't remember that. Man, that must've been one heck of a microsleep behind the wheel, if it took me through every local mirror, cat and ladder shop. More like a macrosleep!

Seconded. More so if it brought The Roger back.

Sadly, the show must go on. Believe me, it took all I had to not hit reset inmediately.

Update was released!:

Spoiler
Ajlrjrbe o

Well then, folks. Last time, everything went horribly wrong, but we managed to spare Xyon, so that's something. Today, some more Holmes dialogue. Y'know, 'cause that's what we like about this game, amirite?

Nhrpuoij o

Gmhhyxnn oYou look like you're in a bad mood.

Muvphmfm oI just don't get it, Shigen. All those soldiers we killed today...  What the hell were they fighting for? Emperor Bahanuk is a veritable madman, so why do they fight for him?

Gmhhyxnn oIt's not so cut-and-dry, you know. Everyone has his own reasons to fight. I doubt most of the soldiers agree with what the Emperor thinks.

Muvphmfm oEveryone's been sucked into this war... And I'm no better than the rest of them.

Hxaiyzbl o

0zfd96rn o Whoa, he's... actually being introspective and reasonable? Is this you, Holmes, or has the spirit of The Roger possessed you, turning you into a decent person?

Gmhhyxnn oHolmes, I understand how you feel, but you can't keep beating yourself up like this. You and Runan didn't start this war. The Emperor and the Cult of Gerxel did. You said you wanted to help Runan reclaim Reeve, and that's what you've been doing.

0zfd96rn o Ah, actually, I beg to differ. He's been doing that for exactly two maps, now. Before that, I have no idea what he was doing. How many times have I said this, now? Ah, who cares. The important thing is that it's, sadly, the truth.

Gmhhyxnn oLet's just stop talking about this, okay? C'mon, I found something that I think you're really gonna like.

Muvphmfm oJust leave me alone, Shigen. I'm not in the mood.

Gmhhyxnn oThat's exactly the point! Shut up and come with me, will you?

Vvhxxehi o

Gmhhyxnn oQuit your whining, Holmes. See that little house over there? That's where we're going.

Muvphmfm oAnd what's in there?

Gmhhyxnn oThe reason I brought here.

Muvphmfm oWhy are we here?

Gmhhyxnn oBecause of the reason we're here.

Muvphmfm oOh, yeah? And why now, of all times?

Gmhhyxnn oBecause it's now that the reason I brought you here is in there.

Muvphmfm o...you're a real asshole, you know that?

Gmhhyxnn oI do. C'mon, let's go. They're waiting.

Itz7863p oXx1b3qu3 o

0zfd96rn o Wait, "Admiral"? Could it be...?

Ctmximdg oOf course, Admiral! How does it taste?

U5areb5h oI have to say, it's...

Evzjpukq o

P1zzgcas o Yes, ladies and gentlemen. That right there is Holmes's father, Admiral Vals of Granada, thought to have sacrificed himself alongside Eugen to ensure Runan and co.'s safe escape way back before the beginning of the game.

T4vfmkej o

0zfd96rn o ...And now we know why Holmes is such an idiot. It runs in the family.

U5areb5h oHere I am, still recovering from the wounds I took to help you escape, and this is the welcome I get?

Muvphmfm oWhatever, old man. While you were sitting here on your ass, I went and reclaimed the city for you. So, you're welcome for that.

U5areb5h oI already knew that. That's why I sent word to Shigen to bring you here.

Muvphmfm oWhy didn't you just come see me yourself? Could've saved everybody the trouble.

V9wbohga o

Ctmximdg oAh... Do forgive me, Admiral... I'll have to adjust the recipe...

U5areb5h oYes, please do.

F4aswdy8 o Ahahahahah... okay, he may be a dick, but he's being a dick to Holmes, so I can respect that.

Muvphmfm oAre you even listening to me, old man?!

F4aswdy8 o Nope. Pfwhahah!

Muvphmfm oGo back to the city and take care of things!

U5areb5h oShut up and learn some patience, boy. Besides, I'm retired from all that. Granada's in your hands now.

Muvphmfm oDon't you push your responsibilities on me! I don't want to be in charge of Granada!

Khlk4hup o

F4aswdy8 o Oh, man. This scene's too much. Not as much as Eugen punching Holmes in the head, but...

P1zzgcas o Speaking of, I wonder if Eugen and Vals got along in the old days. They're both badasses, they both wanted to die in battle, they both have a taste for the fairer sex, they both hate Holmes...

U5areb5h oGirl, bring out my old sword and armor so I can give them to my son. It's time you stopped playing archer and took up a real weapon for once.

0zfd96rn o Hey, hey, hey, don't you insult Archers! I mean, do insult your son, but have you seen Leonie? Raquel? ...Tom?! Archers are my best fuckin' units!

U5areb5h oIf you're going to be the Lord of Granada, then you're going to damn look the part.

U5areb5h oShigen, make him change clothes.

Mvitba4f oDrqqxekg o

F4aswdy8 o Bwahahahahahah... you can tell Shigen's having too much fun with this whole thing.

Afpwadqs oEpku7ynd o

Man, for once, his ultra-depressed idle sprite fits the situation.

Hyour6i7 oGhoa5a6k o

There we go, first Lord promotion! I don't get this promotion's name. "Stealth Hunter"? Where'd that come from? Shouldn't he be promoting to Admiral, since that's what Vals is? Not to mention that I think Admiral would be a more natural thing to progress into from Privateer.

Xjmifsza o

Ah, well, it doesn't matter. Now he has Enemy Phase, which is cool. Good stats, too. That strength is amazing.

Hgzgx9pu oKr6fyu0w o

Agc8tgc5 o

F4aswdy8 o C'mon, don't be such a tsundere, Holmes. You actually look like a man who knows what he's doing now! Hahahah...

U5areb5h oNow get out of here, you idiot. And take a bath, for goodness's sake. You're soiling my air here.

Ctmximdg oAdmiral, would you like me to massage your shoulders?

U5areb5h oAh, yes, please...

F4aswdy8 o Hoo, boy... in a way, I have to say, I love Holmes. He's, like, a complete subversion of the usual FE lord. He's a bumbling idiot, he spends half the game doing God-knows-what for no good reason, the other half he's just kinda sating some out-of-the-blue patriotic bloodlust, his parents are alive (yes, both parents. We won't get to that in this run, but I'll talk about it when we see her) but one of them's also an idiot and the other one's MIA... It's kinda amazing how much of a disaster of a Lord he is.

Cjr45iwn o

0zfd96rn o Forget what? Getting a free sword (and what a sword, as we'll see later), armor and a city you do not deserve?

Gmhhyxnn oQuit complaining, Holmes. Would you have preferred a teary, heartfelt reunion with hugs and kisses? I don't think I've seen your father more proud of you than he was back there.

04edcfbn oDon't give me that bull. He hates me just as much as I hate him.

Gmhhyxnn oHe's a proud man, just like you. He'd never admit his real feelings out loud. You just don't like being reminded how similar the two of you really are.

F4aswdy8 o Hah! Yet still you'll remind him, eh, Shig?

Gmhhyxnn oYou know what the girl back there told me? She said that before General Xyon came here, there was an awful-tempered man called Praeva in charge of the city.

0zfd96rn o I know that name. Fucker could've killed The Roger a chapter earlier, but chose not to so he could extend his life a turn longer.

Gmhhyxnn oHe'd have people arrested by the dozen and executed just for looking at him funny.

Hxkgsqdo o

Gmhhyxnn oYour father's been doing everything he can, enduring day after day under the Empire, waiting for you to return and rescue Granada.

Wd4ndftl o

Gmhhyxnn oHe named you his successor, didn't he? You've got to admit, he believes in you.

04edcfbn oDon't tell me he's sucked you in, too. What, did he say what lonesome and painful days he's been enduring, too? Do you have lead for brains, Shigen? All he wants is for someone else to take all the responsibilities off his shoulders! Didn't you see how he's got that girl slaving over his every whim? That's all he wants to do!

0zfd96rn o Dude, if what Shigen claims is true, he's done more for Granada than you've ever done for anybody! Sure, he could stand to be less of a prick with the girl (and women in general, as we'll learn in about five seconds), but he's still a better man than you, Holmes!

Gmhhyxnn oIs that what this is about? Afraid of getting a new stepmother?

04edcfbn oHah, don't make me laugh.

Ugdfafzw o

Gmhhyxnn oI wouldn't be surprised, honestly.

0zfd96rn o Ah, yes, this. Let me stop here a moment to address this. If Renee was recruited and Attrom is alive, a scene plays where it's revealed that Attrom's mother, before dying, kept repeating the name "Valentinus". Then Holmes gets mad and rushes off, and upon being asked by Shigen, Holmes reveals that's the name Vals uses when he's out seducing women. What I'm trying to say is, Attrom is Holmes's half-brother. Just like that. And in the ending, Holmes basically manipulates Attrom into going to Granada so he can just push all his responsibilities on him.

0zfd96rn o In conclusion, Holmes is a hypocrite and he's exactly like his father (if not worse), no matter what he says. Also, I've no idea what will happen to Granada with Attrom dead. Considering how the game's been handling that issue thus far, I can only assume the story will pretend Granada doesn't exist and hope we do the same.

H50pnffj o

04edcfbn oWhat, you want me to go give a speech from the balcony like a nobleman? I'm not doing that crap!

Tvvyyngf o

Gmhhyxnn oC'mon, what's wrong with a little speech? Just use your own words.

04edcfbn oFine, whatever. Since you insist, Shigen...

F4aswdy8 o This is going to be grand, isn't it?

Wajnkdtw o

04edcfbn oIf you want to complain to someone, go find my old man and whine at him. I've got important things to do.

Vmotuxbh o

04edcfbn oWe drove out the Imperial troops, so feel free to do whatever you want. Throw some parties, I don't care.

Utn7uzqf o

F4aswdy8 o Yes, that is the correct amount of laugh tracks. Although, I feel it's still too few.

Sfpcxze1 o

Normally there's a scene here where Shigen laughs at Holmes for being awful at everything, but it didn't play for some reason. Maybe it requires some character to be present that I can't remember. Who knows. In any case, here's Vals's sword: Luna! You can guess what's its special property. It's not exclusive to Holmes, so we can safely give it to Shigen. Or, we can leave it with Holmes. His strength is pretty good. No matter who wields it, though, it's amazing.

Asnahzvh oKui1x53g o

This is the excuse for why Holmes can't go see Runan yet... except... wait...

We already weren't going to go see Runan at Razelia! First, we were going to Yr! Why does the game feel the need to make up a lame excuse for something that was already excused chapters ago!? Holmes!

9t39vpbz o

Hmm? What now? I can't remember anything else here!

I70iqqjs o

...

...oh, please... you could've... you could've just had her leave... t-there was no need to show me this...! Nngh... d-dammit, it's raining inside again...!

Jr5xlihq oLb2rlcmj o

W-Well, anyhow... let's move on. Garo will take an Occult book, since he's almost level 30, and Holmes will take a cheaper sword so he doesn't waste the Luna.

Mi8aqg29 o

And now, it's time for...

Wkvp2kvj o

The real chapter 26: Black-Hearted!

Emf7uaqi o

There's the black-hearted bastard in question, with a really cranky-looking Swordmaster.

Vtdpm1xa o

As well as the Royal Historian of Wellt! The Royal Historian informs Lentzie that he's an incompetent idiot that left the rear unprotected while he was off getting half his face slashed off.

Rx79mwxc oThe city has already been taken, and the castle is being swarmed!

4uu6mp5n o

Nc8hplwt oWhat an underhanded bastard...

Rx79mwxc oUnderhanded how, milord?

Nc8hplwt oNever mind that!

F4aswdy8 o Ahahahahahahahah... poor Lentzie. Even his underling, the Royal Historian of Wellt, destroys him without even meaning to.

Uttniw6x o

P1zzgcas o Pfffft... yeah, you wish. The last time you said that to the Royal Historian, you returned to him with half as much face as before.

Wm4e7n60 o

F4aswdy8 o Heheheheheh... clearly, he realizes that as well.

Rx79mwxc oBy the way, Lord Lentzenheimer, who is that creepy Zoan man in the corner?

Nc8hplwt oOh, Golgotha? He's a warrior of Gerxel. I hired him to protect me. With him at my side and this dark blade in my grasp, I have nothing to fear!

Vlfmpzot oThe last laugh will be mine! Gwa ha ha!

0zfd96rn o See, this is another reason why this route split is so weird. In the other route, Runan's army is coming from the front, he knows way ahead of time that he's coming, and yet, he seems so helpless, because Zieg cucks him in the last second. In this route, he's been caught by surprise by Runan Matthis taking a detour, and yet he seems to be way more prepared than he was in the other route, with Golgotha and all sorts of tricks that we'll see in the actual gameplay! What's up with that?

Zxqkvuce oL-Let me go! Help me, Sir Arkis...

B8qnojud oStop! Leave her alone! Fine... I'll do whatever you want...

Nc8hplwt oWell, don't you look like a man of Gerxel! Now then, when you're in battle, you're forbidden to speak even a single word. Your friends will never even know it's you!

P1zzgcas o Brilliant, Lentzenheimer! A masterpiece of a plan! But... what does this accomplish, exactly?

Vlfmpzot oAhahahaha!

Waccbrp7 oBu3agjwk o

0zfd96rn o Well, gee. He does look like one. But I'm sure he'll be obvious enough in the actual gameplay. Remember back in chapter 6, how Zieg's recruitability was concealed under the thinnest veil possible? Besides, there's no way he'll stick to such a hilariously stupid order. Lentzie has no way to make sure he doesn't speak to Runan or anybody else! Surely he'll say something to reveal himself to us!

Uxhoquce o

Honestly though, not meaning to nag you, Aethin, but I think that "I order you not to talk!" shenanigan is a bit of a lame excuse. It only makes Arkis come off as even more of a dumbass that usual if he follows the order. Surely it would've been more believable if, say, Lentzie gagged Arkis under the helmet so he couldn't speak, and then tied his helmet tight so he couldn't take it off. That would not only be a way more difficult problem to solve in the middle of the battle, it would also make Lina's involvement all the more important, as nobody else would try to take off an enemy's helmet in the middle of a fight, even if he tried surrendering. As is, he simply has to say "stop, I'm Arkis!", and that'd be enough to get Kreiss to at least stop skewering him for a second, giving him the chance to take off his helmet and show his face! Even if it's only for a moment, and then he goes right back to pretending to be an enemy, Kreiss (or whoever) could then ask the rest of the army to avoid Arkis! And what's Lentzie gonna do about that, huh?

Much like Barbarossa's death quote, Xyon's death quote with Holmes scrolls slowly, as if simulating him having trouble speaking. It was a cool effect back with old Barba, and it's still a cool effect now.

...

...

...

4y9awaad o

...ergh... is that it?

Well, let me explain. No, that's not it, the thing's just glitched. This is a glitch that used to happen with every one of these death quotes that scroll automatically. Aethin fixed it for Barbarossa and a future boss in an update, but not this one. I can forgive him, I can't imagine many players ever seeing this. It's not like you get anything out of Xyon, he doesn't drop any of his goodies, and since he has that anti-effective-damage shield, Holmes really isn't the best candidate to take care of him.

However! This isn't the end of that. There's a way for me to show you this dialogue. It's time for an unprecedented occurrence:

Uizhtqmk o

The bad wiki is useful for something. Even though the names are, for the most part, incorrect, the old wiki somehow has all the correct quotes for bosses and the like. Handy! Whoever it is that transcribed these, I thank thee, helpful soul!

As for the conversation itself, I like how it hints that it's possible to spare Xyon... after you've already murdered him. Oh, well. At least you get to see Holmes being a decent human being, for once. Again, right after he (badly) insults and (barely) murders the guy.

I didn't intend for it to make you feel bad, given a part of the song is dedicated to travelling to Valhalla. Where those who fall in combat feast by night and practice battle by day, their wounds healing. Kind of a way of feeling slightly better about the whole thing when a unit dies.

Yeah. Pretty good guess. Though Garo and Sasha are pretty strong contenders. Hell so are Runan and Maruj (though I still miss the plane animations). Anyway, I figure The Roger needed to live on in at least some way, and my new username was the best one I could think of.

Sadly, only readers of this LP would get the reference. Not the best way to start a hack called "Serenes Emblem".

Meanwhile, if I were in the game, no one would know who I was because I'm so sporadic on my posting. Seriously, I think I've been nominated in the Interview thread twice, and each time got one vote. (If memory serves it was Pengaius and Hawkwing, not necessarily in that order).

1 hour ago, Saint Rubenio said:

How the hell is a unit who can die if you get unlucky this damn important to the plot?

Anyway, I guess I'll throw out another song (Mind I've wrote both the ones I had ideas for at this point). I think I'll go with "I am the Law" (Parodying I am the Law, by Anthrax... but without a real name change) despite the lack of Law lately.. and the liberties taken to make it work.

Spoiler

Fifteen years in the monastery
He was the best Bishop this side of Lee
A man so holy as to call forth Maerchen's good side
And that is something extremely easy to hide.
They call him Law, he works as a priest
So mess with Law, and you wind up deceased
An end to Gerxel is what he's striving for
This Bishop, he is the Law
With tome and staves he rules the streets
And every cultist he meets will taste defeat
Not even Death can overcome his might
Because he was born to shed his holy light.
When Gerxel started the current war
Pirates attacked and injured Law,
Katri escaped, but it seemed like Law's death,
Yet despite the attack this man still draws breath,
Respect this man - he earned it with his blood
Fear his tome – your sentence is in store... I AM THE LAW!
And you won't enslaves girls no more - I AM THE LAW
Turn corrupt barons into coleslaw - I AM THE LAW
Exposition is what I'm for - I AM THE LAW
Because in Blaad... I AM THE LAW
Reunited with Katri, He travels with Holmes,
And gives him advice, wherever he roams,
Having freed Granada, from the clutch of Gerxel's Claw,
This is the status, of Holmes and Law,
And while fallen heroes receive their respects,
To revive them with the Darkruon is what is next,
So he travels on this dire mission,
As he gives Holmes Exposition.
Gerxel - The evil cult
The deaths we've suffered is their fault.
LAW - It's what the bishop stands for
Gerxel is his enemy and he's going to war
Gerxel - The evil cult
The deaths we've suffered is their fault.
LAW - It's what the bishop stands for
Gerxel is his enemy and he's going to war

Dagdar is of course the kind of character that people tend to underestimate. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone claim he is the best unit altogether, even ignoring staff users.
In any case, it's strange how it took until Tear Ring Saga for charge to become a Command skill. At least it could have been limited to player phase.
I'm so happy that by the time of Berwick probability based skills were mostly phased out. You can't strategize around some 20% probability or whatever. And if enemies have those skills you have to treat it as a 100% certainty that they will trigger.

His trap successfully deployed, Kaga was free to become the master of balance he truly was all along, and he went on to make Berwick Saga, where there's a grand total of one bad unit (and that's for story reasons), and where every single unit has some sort of niche or skill that separates them from rest of the cast.

In other words, it all leads/led to Berwick.

I believe it.

Who knows? I know, right? And like I said, you haven't seen anything. Here's the game's intro, for instance. Yeah. Aethin recorded the translated version, but the audio's wonky, so I'm linking it separatedly. All that changes is the initial text, anyhow. You can mute Aethin's video and let the japanese one run in the background. Believe me, you'll like the result.

Awesome intro. I have a few nitpicks, but honestly this makes me sad that the 90's never had a movie that featured nothing but spritework. Heck, it would be awesome to see an animation company today make pixels look awesome for a larger audience.

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

You know, I've got to wonder how they managed to screw up so badly that they made Byleth's coat sleeves follow the movements of his own arms. I can understand when that happens in last century games' trenchcoats, but this...? The sleeves are completely detached from his body! It makes no sense, it's like they made his arms and his coat's arms a single entity, even though they're miles apart! What the hell!?

I was kinda aiming at the generic poses and the repetitive pegasus knight animations, but holy crap, you're right! They remind me of the PC versions physics engine of the Force Awakens (it's a terrible port, but at least it's playable, and the sequel is more stable), where the dangling cloth on Starkiller would occasionally become frozen.

I like how you had a fanstroke, present 9 counterpoints, and then you just went "nah ya right fam, gotta play dem Marsgames".

It was more the "waifu" comment than anything else. It's a platonic love, the kind that comes about when a unit disembowels the enemy forces while not taking any scratches themselves, and for being a solid character in their own right outside of gameplay, so you get the best of both worlds.

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

This is honestly a reason why I hope that IS contiunes the trend they had with Awakening and Echoes. In the former, the lord can recruit everyone in the game (with one very specific exception, and even then the game makes it obvious who you have to recruit them with), so even if a characters mother was defeated, you still have the ability to grab a child unit. In the latter, you recruit characters outside of battle, so as long as they survive the fight, you can add them to your army afterwards. It helps remove bullcrap situations like this.

There we go, first Lord promotion! I don't get this promotion's name. "Stealth Hunter"? Where'd that come from? Shouldn't he be promoting to Admiral, since that's what Vals is? Not to mention that I think Admiral would be a more natural thing to progress into from Privateer.

In other words, his previous sprite, but with slightly more armor and a sword.

Stealth hunter is a cool name, but it sounds more fitting for an airplane game. Wonder if this is a case of foreshadowing or something. Or Kaga just decided it sounded cool.

Our first introduction to his new armor, and he's frowning.

As a nice comparison and contrast, Runan should smile when he get's promoted.

Guess he has to have something going for him, at the very least.

That's all he wants to do!

...And once again, the game does an excellent job at showing that Admiral Vals is a flawed character in a short amount of time.

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

...This probably explains the lack of family resemblance, doesn't it?

Also, depending on when Holmes figured this fact out, this may or may not answer the question I had about him reaction to recruiting Plum the way he did...

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Sheesh. This chapter is like punching bag for Holmes, except it's not as hilarious as when Eugen decked him in the face.

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

0zfd96rn o In conclusion, Holmes is a hypocrite and he's exactly like his father (if not worse), no matter what he says. Also, I've no idea what will happen to Granada with Attrom dead. Considering how the game's been handling that issue thus far, I can only assume the story will pretend Granada doesn't exist and hope we do the same.

No wonder they hate each other. They remind each other of the their worst attributes.

04edcfbn oFine, whatever. Since you insist, Shigen...

This makes me curious about how many points Holmes put into charisma.

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Normally there's a scene here where Shigen laughs at Holmes for being awful at everything, but it didn't play for some reason. Maybe it requires some character to be present that I can't remember. Who knows. In any case, here's Vals's sword: Luna! You can guess what's its special property. It's not exclusive to Holmes, so we can safely give it to Shigen. Or, we can leave it with Holmes. His strength is pretty good. No matter who wields it, though, it's amazing.

I know that you found this sequence to be humorous, but honestly there was too much vitriol between Holmes and his father for me to find it funny. While again, this doesn't excuse his idiotic and spiteful actions in the past, I now have a better idea of where they came from.

F4aswdy8 o Ahahahahahahahah... poor Lentzie. Even his underling, the Royal Historian of Wellt, destroys him without even meaning to.

On the lighter side of things, we get to see Lentzie get beat up in more ways than one!

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

0zfd96rn o See, this is another reason why this route split is so weird. In the other route, Runan's army is coming from the front, he knows way ahead of time that he's coming, and yet, he seems so helpless, because Zieg cucks him in the last second. In this route, he's been caught by surprise by Runan Matthis taking a detour, and yet he seems to be way more prepared than he was in the other route, with Golgotha and all sorts of tricks that we'll see in the actual gameplay! What's up with that?

I suppose Lentz knows that a lot of people want him dead, so he hired a bodyguard that really was only in it for the money to occupy him in the castle, where people would be most likely to assassinate him. As for why he didn't bring him outdoors... maybe Lentz was just that reliant on the reinforcements that never came that he never planned a back-up strategy?

Arkis saying anything that sends him to hell.

...Oh wait, it's so Runan's army kills one of their own. Except the possibilities of that happening...

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

...Might be more plausible if there was another character holding an axe next to Lina.

Except then there would need to be a line of solders telling the executioner that Arkis said something.

Except this is the series where character can hear each other yards away from each other.

...What point was I trying to make, again?

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

0zfd96rn o Well, gee. He does look like one. But I'm sure he'll be obvious enough in the actual gameplay. Remember back in chapter 6, how Zieg's recruitability was concealed under the thinnest veil possible? Besides, there's no way he'll stick to such a hilariously stupid order. Lentzie has no way to make sure he doesn't speak to Runan or anybody else! Surely he'll say something to reveal himself to us!

Yeah, simply telling someone to stay silent is doubtfull to work. A gag would make more sense. Or ripping the jaw off and/or the tongue out, but that might be too permanent and result in death via blood loss.

9 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

I honestly have to agree with this. It would be similar to the hostage situation in The Dark Knight, just with less people involved and without Batman. The only real snag I could see with the gag would be the possibility that Arkis could suffocate while wearing one under a helmet. It doesn't happen in fiction, but it could happen in real life, if Wikipedia is anything to go by, and knowing Kaga, he'd jump on the possibility to have Arkis pass out if the player takes too long or he does too much in a short amount of time.

Characters talking about pain after coming back from the dead is really something that should appear more often in fiction.

Then again, I could see it come off as sacrilegious to some people, so I suppose there's a reason why it's rare.

As for the conversation itself, I like how it hints that it's possible to spare Xyon... after you've already murdered him. Oh, well. At least you get to see Holmes being a decent human being, for once. Again, right after he (badly) insults and (barely) murders the guy.

Guess if he's on his deathbed, Holmes knows how to be respectful.

Unless it's his dad, but as this update has proven, there's a reason for that.

Apeboy on the other hand, once tried to detach the hinges to his bedroom door in his sleep when he was a kid. Thought he was awake, and asked what he was doing. Turned out he wasn't awake.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Poor The Roger The Paladin. 😢

When I played Tear Ring Saga a a few months ago I used this Let's Play as a form of a companion tool. Not necessarily as a guide, but usually after I finished a chapter. Its also highly entertaining. Reading your Let's Play this also got me to try out Leonie in my playthrough and she wound up becoming one of my best units. I don't think she's good for LTC, but there's a lot of ways to get her kills. I'm still pretty new to Fire Emblem, but right now Tear Ring and Berwick (the 6 chapters I've played) are my favorite Fire Emblem-style games right now. Can't really explain why but I feel like units have niches and that with some of the higher growth rate games a lot of units just fall behind really quick and that the cores of the team feel smaller? Maybe its the map design? Berwick's Command Skills? 😮

I really appreciate you going the extra mile to show off 26A + 26B. Your story additions are also dope. Was satisfying seeing the Slaver get his comeuppance. Its very crazy to see how much of the game changes when certain units become unrecruitable.

Just want to wish you luck in the upcoming chapter. AMADOU~!

Spoiler

I felt this chapter was the hardest one for me to complete. In an Iron Man run I'm pretty sure I'd lose multiple units. Arkis is boned.

Not sure what the joke was, but I used to use the word as a stand-in for actual swearing in English assignments. There wasn't anything anyone could do to stop me because I'd only maybe use it once an assignment, it wasn't actually swearing, and it could be argued off as a personality quirk of the character I attributed it to.

Or we could just compile the lot and make that Album. I have no idea who can sing it, given I'd utterly fail to produce quality. Also, we need to throw in the Thomas the Tank engine theme minus some notes to make it the "Tom the tank" theme.

The joke was just a character going FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFiretruck! and SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSShipyards! (Actual number of 'F's and 'S's may vary). While I knew it was a stand in for actual swear words, I never thought that firetruck and the curse word start and end with the same letters.

Might be a nice project to work on for someone looking to sharpen their singing and sound-mixing skills. Only real snag is the potential copyright. Then again, considering how niche Tear Ring Saga is...
