Of all the games I've ever played, I've probably played through Metal Gear Solid 3 the most.  It is one of my absolute favorite games of all time, and I could literally play it a hundred more times before I died.  Really, I could play every MGS except V over and over again, but MGS3 is definitely my main jam.  MGS V isn't bad, but it's just not the kind of game one could really play all over again - you invest way too much into one playthrough.

TLoZ: Ocarina of Time and its twin, Majora's Mask, are both games that I could return to quite a few times as well.  I particularly remember playing the latter a ton of times over.

I often go back to playing Fallout New Vegas when nothing else seems fun.  And I always wind up doing most of the quests, though I've only recently played through the last DLC, Lonesome Road.  Did just about every ending the game has to offer except the Mr. House ending - I even managed to help the Legion with good karma.  I've sort of played Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 over again, but I never would get through as much of them as I would of Fallout New Vegas.

Oblivion is good for the odd replay.  Skyrim is decent for that too, but mostly for everything except the main storyline because I find it boring.  Regardless, I find myself returning to them, though they both are usually bloated with tons of mods because the former has ugly-looking characters and the latter isn't all that fun without them.

I also find myself playing FE Awakening and Fates with different files.  I don't finish most of them, but I sink in enough time that I think it counts.  I'd also play through New Mystery and Genealogy a few times more.

Another game I go back to quite a bit is Saints Row 2.  I always make the same character (an OC who is like a vigilante gangster), play through a lot of the activities, and often play on Hard.  I sometimes play the third game as well, but I just like the second game so much more.  Never played the first game because I don't have an XBox.

And the Mass Effect trilogy is always good for a replay.  It's long, but every once in a while (likely at least once a year) I get a hankering to play through all the games.  And yes, I play through the entire trilogy.  I'm actually about due for another playthrough, which is quite coincidental because I got the trilogy collection on PS3 for Christmas several years ago.

There are probably more, but I have amnosia and can't remember them all.  I play tons of games, these are just the ones I care enough to remember.  Though I'd be remiss to not mention Resident Evil: Outbreak.  I don't know why, but the two games in that spin-off series garnered more attention from me than the main games ever did, and I never even played it online which was the way it was intended to be played.  I haven't played it in a while, but I'd still be down to play through the games again at some point.

* Fire Emblem Awakening: Man, I can play Awakening for years...I absolutely love the game!

* Fallout 1&2: I prefer these boys over the 3D games..they’re darker and more challenging. Actually... I might replay F2 later....

* Left 4 Dead 1&2: I used to play it alone, now I have tons of friends to play it with..and I love it just the same as I did years ago..

* Saints Row Series: Always fun to play...and I just love smacking people with dildos..

* Final Fantasy 1: I always get a strange feeling when I play the game...what is it called? Oh yeah, Nostalgia.

Hoo boi, this is the list that I will write now, but will edit a million times after submitting, as "new and new" games come to my mind.

Rayman 2 - not the first game I've played, not even the first Rayman game I've played. It is, however, my most favourite game of all time. Nothing ever came even close to this. Mixing action and platforming together, in such a way that neither "kills" the atmosphere of the other, it's just simply beautiful. (Which is not quite as good in 3 imho, where action takes a much bigger place) The goofiness of the characters, with a rather serious storyline, atmospheric- , and sometimes - surprisingly - dark music, I can say this game is more than just my entire childhood. And don't get me wrong, I've played lot's of games when I was little that I liked, but there is none amongst them that I could literally start playing right now without feeling like I have better things to do. While we are at Rayman, Rayman M is probably another one, that I wouldn't mind replaying, but it's simply because of nostalgia, and the fact that it was my first ever Rayman game. But I still love it.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - once again, a game that wasn't my first in the series but became my favourite of it. The characters, the story, (the gba sprites!!!), I've probably played it more than every other game in the series combined. Honestly, I haven't played even half of the games (shame on me), since I really don't have too much free time recently, but still.

Tomb Raider 2013 - the first game of the list, where my favourite is the one that actually introduced me to the franchise. I have played a bit of the very first one before the reboot, but that didn't quite caught my attention. Unlike this. Replayed at least 4 times, would do it again. Rise of the TR was pretty good as well, played it only 2 times though, and still like the first one more. Shadow is also pretty good, haven't replayed it yet. Probably will though. If I had to make an order it would go like this: TR2013 > SotTR > RotTR. The old ones aren't here, since I haven't finished all of them yet. But I will. Eventually.

Mirror's Edge - the original one. The last on the list that I will write such a long-ass story about. I have replayed it at least 8 times already, I know most of the levels like the back of my hand. I liked Catalyst. Even bought it at release - what I rarely, if ever, do. Replayed it once. I still like it, and in some aspects, I consider it superior to the original. Parkour is much better in it. It really is. The story is deeper. I mean, the original never really felt like a story at all. But still, I would definitely play the first one over and over again, instead of catalyst. The music, the scenes, the levels, the flow. It was such a new dimension to me, considering I'm really not a first-person fan.

The rest of the games:

  • Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver
  • Ys I&II
  • AER Memories of old
  • Oxenfree
  • Thief
  • Thief 2014
  • Cossacks - European Wars
  • Mark of the ninja

I have a strange addiction to Fallout New Vegas. I generally don't replay games with any goal or challenge in mind but New Vegas is a game I physically and mentally must pull myself away from at least once a year. I'm always successful but it bothers me that the game has that effect on me. I did every quest, searched every location and seen every ending and am still content with reliving all of it. The urge is especially strong when I've come home from a long road trip or finish a grueling semester of finals. Certainly doesn't help when said road trips are to Vegas itself lol. You literally cannot get there from where I live without passing through Primm.

You should go to the Vikki and Vance Casino and Museum and listen to Primm Slim spin you a yarn about the nation's third or maybe fifth most infamous duo of desperados.

I had to look that up. Omg.

Yeah, SR got outright loony at times, particularly after the second game.  You have to fight gangs of luchadores, Belgian pimps, and cyber punks, run through a deadly game show where you murder a bunch of mascots wielding all manner of firearms, and even get yourself sold as a prostitute and drugged so that you could infiltrate an enemy gang's facility.  Oh, and there's flying bikes and a super advanced futuristic paramilitary organization whose sole goal is to destroy your gang, and it's led by the father of some lady you killed in the second game (you kill her because she had one of your gang lieutenants brutally murdered, but the father thinks she was an innocent victim who simply got caught up with the wrong crowd).  This all describes things that happen in the third game alone.

And then the fourth game in the series has you fighting alien tyrants who destroyed the entire planet of Earth in a simulation of the setting of the previous game, only in the simulation you have super powers.  You also somehow wind up becoming the President of the United States of America, and fill your cabinet with your gang lieutenants and Keith David (literally the actor himself, who voiced one of the characters who died in the second game) is your Vice President and is the only ally character you can't have a romantic interaction with.

The series has definitely gone places, that's for sure.

I could probably cut my losses and say "every single game I owned as a kid". Seriously, I've lost count of how many times I've replayed a games only a short time after I beat them when I was younger. Nowadays, I don't have the time for that, but I still have games I love replaying:

- Star Wars: Republic Commando for being a fun tactical shooter that doesn't over or understay it's welcome, has a fleshed-out cast with tons of personality, and I love hearing the hilarious conversations your squadmates have as well as the awesome lines the game is filled with.

- FTL: Faster than Light because you can beat it in an hour or two (despite never managing to do so after years of playing), the fun and unique gameplay, and how each run of the game is different.

- Into The Breach because it manages to fit the feelings of making difficult choices and the satisfaction of finding the best solution in a few minutes that most strategy games stretch out over several hours.

- Sword of the Samuria because it either lasts a short or a long time depending on the game, the difficulties are balanced, and there are enough different states to start in that each have their own alterations on the starting stats, so you have to focus on what you focus on training and how you deal with your opponents. It's also the best game about feudal Japan I've ever played, and it was made by the Canadians.

- The Master of Orion and Civilization games on medium difficulty, because it's fun having games where you makes a few enemies along with a few friends, have to seriously think about your strategy without being limited to a few, and having to earn victory.

- Beyond Good and Evil, as while it's on the easy side, it doesn't take long to beat the game, and it does several different things well, like racing, the very balanced stealth, the adventure game elements, and more.

- The Force Unleashed 2, as while it doesn't have as as strong a story as the first game, and it is infamously short and easy, the gameplay improvements keep me coming back. Sometimes, all you need to do is sit back, relax, and utterly destroy your enemies with the force, which is just so much fun to use in this game.

- Fire Emblem: Awakening due to the shear amount of freedom you're given to play as you want, and it's fun to combine different challenges to see how things play out.

- Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia because it can be beaten in a week or two, and I love the story and gameplay of this title, warts and all.

Obviously because Xenoblade Chronicles X is my favorite game of all time of course I'd go back and play it over and over again, but not in the way you might assume. The game is a large open world rgp at it's core, but I find sitting down with the game for short periods of time is just as satisfying as longer sessions because you're always making meaningful progress no matter what you decide to do and regardless of how much time you spend doing it.

Another good example for me is Final Fantasy Theater Rhythm: Curtain Call. This simple little rhythm game can get super addicting really quickly. Even when I though I'd just pop it in on a whim and play through a few favorite songs I suddenly realized I had been playing for over an hour and it become the only DS game I want to play for the next 3 days.

I wish I could really give each game the kind of write up it deserves, but my post would get to the length that the serenes edit button logged me out for spamming and I'd have to do it all in one sitting.

D: 100-200 games I still go back too

F: 60-100 games that I will compulsively play and will probably end up in  category B or D some time.

Overcooked 2, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Lemmings, Lode Runner, Mr Driller: Drill Spirits, Bombastic, Eye Toy Play 2, Battletanx, Lufia 2

****

If compilations counted, Midway Arcade volume 1, and Capcom volume 1 and 2 would both be in category B - the first mostly for Smash TV / super sprint, and the latter for 1942, Beat em ups, and increasingly quiz and dragons. Sega classics collection for 3DS also counts, but almost exclusively for Puyo Puyo Tsu, with only minimal time in other games.

Many games I opted for low estimates for playtime (n64 platformers, smash bros GCN, Age of Mythology, Wesnoth, Mario Tennis GBC, Pokémon) and are probably a category ahead of where I put them already.

Kid Mystic, Monaco, Majesty, Steambot Chronicles,  and Robot Wants are inflated by me speedrunning them.

SNES platform games are mostly played via GBA ports.

N64 games are what I collect...… hence their prominence over everything else. I marathon the platformers, sometimes but not always including minor platformers every 3-6 years.

Couch splitscreen games are crack to me. If I didn't have a big enough family (or the ability to lure people in with cooking during my college years) I would probably resort to opening a gaming parlor out of my house.

My most played online games are only Monaco, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Battle for Wesnoth, Age of Mythology, Team Fortress, and World of Tanks. The main explanation is probably the series of underpowered computers I owned most of my life. I do have a much better computer now, but with how good the Switch and PS4 have been to me I don't think I'll dip into more online games too much even though I would probably quite like them.

There are many games where I watch a GDQ / ESA / Cal fire relief and decide to go on a "casual" PB speedrun of for the fun of it.

I was a pretty hardcore competitive pokemon player in gen4 and gen 5, so Shoddy Battle and then Pokémon Online could apply, but I didn't want to make a 1000 hour but don't play category. although one of these days I'll go ham in the past gens room despite promsing never again.

Forum mafia via mafiascum.net and Flash mafia via Pokémon Online's chat plugin would probably qualify for above 10,000 hours each, but strictly speaking aren't video games.

Mario Tennis, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Mario Party 3, and Mario Party 2 probably form an inner group and stand out to me as way more played than the other 1000 hour games.

Most games I want to replay at least once (unless I really dislike them) but here are some I could see myself playing multiple times

Zelda II The Adventure of Link, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time & Twilight Princess; I don't know why but Zelda games have something that keeps me coming back to them and these are my favourite Zelda games so I will likely replay them a lot.

Fire Emblem games; With a couple exceptions I really like these games (what a shock) and I'm also interested in doing some challenge runs. Almost any playthrough will be different and most are easy to pick up and play.

Pokemon gen 1-5; I'm a sucker for nostalgia and old games. Just like Fire Emblem every playthrough can be different.

Super Mario Galaxy; This is the game that made me interested in games so I it has a lot of sentimental value. It is also very easy to play so You can easily pick it up.

Oblivion & Skyrim; When I thought I had discovered everything these games had to offer I discovered mods.

Lord of the Rings Online; This pretty much the perfect game for me. I can make my own character and walk around in Middle Earth? Yes please! And the game is actually fun so I'm shocked that I've played so many other games.

There's a few games I've been through a few times. There's low numbers like Echoes/Gaiden or FE 7 I've been through 6 times each, or Earthbound and Shadow Dragon with 5. So let's skip to some of the higher ones. We'll also skip  of the ones I've been through a lot because of being 2D platformers, as I've had days where I've played through Donkey Kong Country or Super Castlevania IV just to fill a couple hours, and have long since lost track of the numbers.

Majora's Mask: Counting the remake, I've been through the game at least once per year since release. Sometimes as many as three times. We're currently looking at my 22nd playthrough.
Paper Mario. The original game is one I've revisited a lot, with a solid dozen playthroughs under my belt before I gave it a break from yearly status.
Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie: The other two games I have played through once a year... until now. Knowing I got the former in 2000, and the latter at release, that's at least 19 times on the former and probably a few more on the latter as I preferred it as a kid.
Zelda Twilight Princess and Link's Awakening used to both be yearly, until my first Wii broke down for the former, and Awakening's battery died. Not that I didn't snag another copy later.
Jak & Daxter has seen a fair share of replay, as have Medievil 1&2.
Even though they're unusually difficult, it's for that reason I can't put down the Battletoads games or the Ghosts N Goblins series (including Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest or Maximo)

If I went through a full list of the 2D platformers I like to replay... we'd be here a while, though a good indicator is whether there's a rep for the series in Smash.

Portal: Dear gosh this game is fun. It's one of very, very, very few that I would and have played through several times.

PoR: I'm only on my first playthrough, but I have several alternate runs planned.

Mother Franchise: I've played them through once. I have tried picking them up again in the past but never stuck. I would really, really, really love to give them another playthrough eventually though with how much I love the series.

TLoZ BotW: THe only reason I haven't found all the seeds and completed all the shrines is because more recently acquired games pulled me away. I absolutely loved BotW. There's so much freedom there, and if you want to you can put fun challenges on yourself or find other ways to make the game interesting by trying to do something unusual.

Fates: I could play Fates more than once and have a unique and individually entertaining experience each time if I wanted to (second seal everyone, trying an iron man run for each route, maybe trying a corrin playthrough, perhaps try different pairings or even attempt to solo the game, try changing the avatar's class and IVs each time, etc). Still, I have other games that need to be played. That's the only reason I haven't played it more.

Pokemon DSP and Emerald. Most of my Pokemon nostalgia lies in these games. I'd love to give them another try someday. Again though, for me unplayed games usually take priority over reruns. I hope one day I can reexperience some of these other games someday.

Cave Story: I love this game, and I can see myself playing it again. Even if I haven't beaten it yet.

VVVVVV: This was a fun game. Some day I want to play it again someday; however, that won't be soon
