Well, why would you assume she teaches singing? In the only scene we have with her she seems to be a regular teacher. It's not like Byleth teaches how to be a mercenary specifically either.

The idea of Byleth teaching these students how to be literal mercenaries is a fun one though.

So I'm guessing no character bio today should've gotten one early if so. I guess it was too reaching to expect more. Oh well got a great character from it(to me anyway :))at least there's next week to look foward too whether next famitsu issue or Monday!

I wasn't. I was responding to this but forgot to quote it.

As for the new teacher, surprised she's teacher of magic. You'd think she'd be teaching Singing, but IS didn't want sing being on more than one unit.

Not that I have a problem with fan service...but the characters don’t have to show a lot of their skin to be considered as fan service. Even then, in addition to her cleavage, her dress’ cut goes up to her thighs on both sides. Put her design with the fact that she’s a teacher, doctor, performer that is looking for a right man, that’s like multiple fantasies rolled into one. I feel like IS is trying to create characters that are balanced between being fan service and being ‘classy’.

Yeah, for me "fan service" depends a lot on context. Where and who are the characters written to be, and is how they are presented appropriate to that?

If there was a grand ball at the end of the second act, and Manuela rolled out in that dress: bravo!

Day-to-day teaching, and battlefield attire... well, she's not entirely outside the realms of anime logic. Quite noticeably pushing the edge of it (and I can see why people are commenting on it) but personally not what I'd consider fan service in the way Camilla was. (Though that might be effected by, as you say, her "classiness", and by the fact that Camilla was more my type.)

scarred after that Camilla cutscene.

I'm not often inclined to riff on Camilla (especially in the original game; she's not nearly as bad in Fates as she is in Heroes and Warriors), but that cutscene never sat right with me.  Still, it's only the second-worst scene from that game featuring her, imo; the worst was her "talking down" Hinoka in Conquest.  That was extremely squicky and awful, I hope we never have a repeat of that ever again.

Regardless, to throw my piece in on the actual conversation (the one about Manuela with a single "L" because double consonants are stupid and annoying), she has an actual dress that a normal woman could be seen wearing.  Well, maybe not completely normal (a little bit too flashy for "normal", if there even is as such a thing), but more normal than panty-window armor on a woman who rides a creature with rough scales into battle.  She makes me think more of Sonya than Camilla from a design standpoint.  So maybe it is fanservicey or maybe not, but it at least is realistic to some degree.

But what I really care about is how she'll act.  And to that end, I hope she is a well fleshed-out character.  I mean, I hope that for everyone in this game (or at least I'd like for them to be well thought-out), but I'd like more of the female characters with sex appeal to actually have some personality that extends beyond fanservice.  I feel that's where these characters truly rise or fail - where you can tell whether they'll have a broader appeal or are meant only for mouth-breathing chauvinists.

That's true, if this teacher just acts like an normal person then it'll be fine I think.

In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Rhea acts as the Archbishop and supreme leader of the Church of Seiros. She has held this position ever since Jeralt belonged to the Knights of Seiros.
She considers the protagonist to be highly qualified and invites them to teach at the Officers Academy. She treats people gently as a loving mother would, but also passes merciless judgement on those who defy the Church.

It seems I was right about Rhea being her name in English, it certainly fits the "motherly" and "holy" theme. I wonder if the specific mention of Jeralt means anything, do they have some kind of history together?

I find it interesting that this one of Jeralt's mercenaries has a distinct design so will most likely be named and be at least a minor character. I assume he was also a Knight of Seiros, being his right hand man - and when Jeralt left, he also left to lead the mercenaries alongside Jeralt. I could see him eventually betraying Jeralt and Byleth due to his loyalty to the Knights being greater than Jeralt's as the Knights will most likely betray Byleth or turn against him at some point. I could totally see this dude as a Chapter boss his design screams it. He could also be a Knight of Seiros sent to escort the Mercenaries to Garreg Mach and just happens to be an old friend of Jeralt from his days as the leader of the Knights.

Never mind what I said before I take it back, she's villain material alright. It's nice to see an antagonist who while normally a nice person, shows an ugly and intolerant side to opposition. A lot more realistic than what I've seen from the series so far.

I've been waiting for her.

Bio:

[Black Eagles] Dorothea (CV: Nagatsuma Juri)

She was the apprentice of a well-known songstress at the capital before enrolling in school. As she was also in the Mittlefrank Opera company, she admires Manuela as her senior. She is the only commoner in the Black Eagles, and she occasionally feels uncomfortable about this, but she treats everyone like an equal when interacting with them.

Convo (takes place before she finds out Byleth is a teacher):

"Oh my, you look like a wonderful person. Is this your first time at the monastery? Shall I show you around? Ah, my name is Dorothea. Before enrolling in school, I was in an opera company at the capital."

The two cleavage characters are both from the opera... Sounds like the opera house is the place to be.

I like Dorothea and I think she’ll be a fun character. Since she’s the only commoner in her house, I’m looking forward to seeing her interactions with the other characters.

Wow this made me like her even more. Her backstory and what we know of her personality make her very sympathetic. Hope they'll execute her well too. She is the one thing tempting me to go Black Eagles right now.

Figures the first female student we get after Edelgard would be the one we arguably already knew the most about. Not that I'm complaining.

The connection to Manuela is neat, even if I kind of wish she could have been from a different opera company just for the sake of an even bigger world, like an off-Broadway star looking up to a Broadway one rather than having two Broadway stars. But this way is still fine, and if it turns out that she's the only commoner that got in because the Mittlefrank Opera has connections with Garreg Mach, then that's potentially even more interesting.

On that note, the fact that the Golden Deer has more commoners than other houses is a bit less impressive when their competition is "only one."

Looks like we have another interesting backstory. Her being the sole commoner in the house will make for an interesting dynamic. This makes me more interested in Petra now. An earlier screenshot gave her a stilted way of speaking as if she's a foreigner but if Dorothea is actually the only commoner, then Petra being a foreign blue blood might have a special significance.

We see Dorothea's expression change in her portrait in the video. I wonder how many expressions and variations each character has.

I think it's better this way. A big world is nice but at the same time, when characters have relationships prior to those they created at the school, the world feels more connected and real. That Manuela was her teacher rather than someone her own age is even better.

It sounds like she's got a very interesting background, although I personally doubt her status as a commoner will actually mean much in the long run; I could see someone being snide about it in passing only to be told off by Edelgard. However, I certainly didn't expect her to be a former opera singer student. Kind of a jump to suddenly join a military academy so I wonder what prompted that.

I really like her art, too. She's one of the few characters so far that I think look really good, and the hat really gives her her own flair. She's already got a meme foundation so if she' a likeable character I can see her being one of the more popular characters in the game.
