Hero, Don't Kill The Demon King! Chapter 1: Lives Not Yet Thrown Away

Well, things had very quickly turned for the worse, with Ayane being taken hostage by her "friend" and held at knifepoint. It was clear that several of their present members were making an attempt at using magic to diffuse the situation, but to no avail. A reckless approach to be certain, even if they had been successful.

"Stand down, all of you. I'll answer your questions... after you release her. If anyone tries to attack you after that... they'll answer to me." Nessraya stated calmly, watching the strange girl like a hawk. Who... what was she? She clearly wasn't human, and if she was asking after Marina by name... she had to work for the Church. But why would a non-human be working with them?

Seilan watched as Erephis excitedly inspected the celestial; her enthusiasm was apparent, seeing as she was frantic enough to lose her footing (...tail-ing...?). Well, at least someone knew something. It'd be some time until the records could be read to learn more, unfortunately. Until then, all there was to know was what the celestial could share about herself, cryptic information though it was.

It seemed the genasi was puzzled, too. Ah, but the Hero was asking him something... He tilted his head quizzically, snapping the new tome shut.

"Did we... not attend the same meeting? I thought I'd already mentioned that I don't know much about celestials. Anything at all, to be honest. Well, if even the Vaians don't, I suppose I hardly have a chance, after all."

It was an odd question for her to ask... perhaps she'd been distracted earlier. Fair enough - things had gotten wild enough in there that even he had been reaching for his blade for a moment, so she could hardly be blamed.

"A-ah, you're right..." Marina replied, meekly returning her eyesight to the star, "Sorry, I-- was just thinking about what Erephis said. Never mind," a sigh. Watching Astraea and Erephis talk again, taking note of Astraea's expression. Honestly, it hurt her, seeing someone so alone. It reminded her of herself.

Walking over to Astraea, Marina placed a hand on the taller woman's shoulder, giving a few scratches with a soft rub, trying to help her new friend as much as she could.

"Sorry to interrupt, but, Astraea, I... I have my things I need to do, but when possible, I'll do what I can to help you find your family. I--" Don't want someone else to be so lonely... "Until then, I'll help you with whatever I can help with the best I can. Okay?"

Seeing Taliyah calm down (or at least trying to) set Bridgit more at ease, letting out a small sigh as she shook her head.  "Honestly Taliyah, come here," she huffs, making quick work of the other's tears as she wipes them away with her handkerchief herself.  Since the other didn't take the offered gesture at first, the least this Pureblood could do is help her look presentable once more!

After she's done, Bridgit pulls away with a nod before tucking the cloth away and moving to pay for her rings.  "Three hundred yes," she reaffirms, ignoring the slight fluster at Aithlin's teasing as she takes out the gold and hands it towards the vendor.

Bridgit pays 300 gold!

"Oh, not at all.  Everything went well, all things considered," he can't help the chuckle while accepting the payment.  "Free meal you say? Well how can I say no to that? Lucky me, hm?" So far his wandering has been quite productive, Ren letting a grin appear on his lips as he put away the gold.  Of course, as soon as the other starts to get curious does his grin falter slightly, the ex-human letting it graciously fall into a more conservative smile as he ponders on how to answer.

The first question is easy, a hand going up to gently pet his feathery partner's head.  "This little guy here is Ukogi.  His kind is common in my homeland, so I'm not surprised you've never seen one, but they're quite the affectionate pet," he explains, his smile losing the sharp edge as the bird nuzzles and chirps against his finger.  "As for what monster I am...an oni, and that's all I can really say on the matter."  There is a finality in Ren's tone, signaling the other that this is all he'll get.  He did say only surface level, so there's no need to elaborate more right?

"Let's skip formalities, Ayane. My name is Ariana, and I work for the church. Judging by the good general's hesitance, and her being here at all, I suppose it's safe to assume Marina is here with you all. The rest of my questions can wait, since it doesn't seem that Nessraya will be playing nice." Ariana sighed, eyeing the group. A few of them had tried some magic, she felt some sort of attempt... For their own sakes it was good that nothing had been cast. "We'll consider this a warning, then. While you are all monsters deserving of the holy sword's purification, my quarrel rests with the traitor to the crown, Marina Fairchild. Get in my way when I come for her, and I shall strike you down."

There would be no easy escape from this situation, even with her protection. The general's magic was dangerous, enough to take her out... A moment's pause, a swift swallow of her fear, she pressed the knife closer to Ayane's neck. "Know that I do this not out of any malice towards you, Ayane... I simply can't be caught here. My apologies. If I find a cure for your transformation, I'll make sure it gets to you." One swift cut, a hard push, and Ariana was bolting.

"Dammit! Nessraya, heal her!" Amera took off with a jump, chasing after the white shadow as it dipped around the corner of a building. "You damned church dog, get back here! Dragon girl, bird boy, come on!"

Taliyah continued her sniffling, but the tears finally subsided, nodding slowly at Bridgit's words. "S, S-Sorry. I'll... Thank you." Thank you was what was best here, right? She did her best to push down any other words of apology, she had no reason to be sorry.

"I, uhm... I, I'll go with you, Agni. I, well... We, we might run into Marina! So I can, g-give her what I bought her. That would be, good. I think..." Tali tried her best to keep her spirits up. Hopefully, Marina would be pleased with what she received.

"Then, I'll leave you two to that. Here, Taliyah." Aithlin presented her with one of the bags, handing the other to Bridgit. "I hope you both enjoy your things. I think I'm gonna go get drunk~ If I even can, now... Well! No time like the present to find out!" Aithlin left them with a chuckle, waving her way out of the little store.

"Ah... D-Do you want to, come along with us, Bridgit? Or... Maybe, you h-had something else you wanted, to take care of...?"

"An... Oni, huh?" Braksen's teeth clacked for a moment, leaning back against his bar. "... You're not the first one I've seen. Sorry for pullin' your chain. Was just askin' to make sure what she said was accurate. Oni, huh... You don't gotta tell me more if yer not up for it; no diggin', promise. Cute bird... I'll get started on your food, alright? Feel free to get a drink in while you wait. You like steak, oni?" Hopefully he did, Braksen wasn't exactly keen on cooking much more than meat and the most basic of tuberous roots.

It seemed like Erephis was the only one who had a single clue about Astraea between everyone present. The snake shivered a moment, all eyes on her, after words had been traded. "I... W-Well, I, read, a book about y-your kind... once..." That was all she had, it was a bit pitiful, really. "I-I'll, uhm. I'll sssend a letter to the castle! And, h-have, Thessssephine ssend it to me! Yesss. That, will work out jusst fine. I, I jusst can't remember more than d-dreams on the ssspot, I'm ss, s-sorry." Hopefully it wasn't too disappointing for Astraea to learn, the snake shrinking somewhat--

"Oh, right!" She slipped away towards the shelf to make a purchase, leaving the group to their own thoughts for a moment.

"I think that's the best lead you're going to get for the moment, Astraea. You should stick with Marina for now. If she's still worried about losing her direction in the city, I can continue to accompany you. I'm... Sorry, that we weren't able to get you any immediate answers, but, something is better than nothing, no?" Hopefully she would be able to see it that way. Erephis knew her books. If she said it had information, then it did, surely.

"Is there anywhere the two of you would like to go, then?" Lavinia was fine playing escort.

"Thank you!" Erephis replied to the merchant, holding a staff in hand, before glancing and then moving up towards Seilan. "Y-You! You're, coming with me. Taiyute, y-you can come along too, if you w-want. I need to know just, what exactly makes that magic work..."

Erephis purchases the Berserk staff!

Lavinia gave the staff a curious glance for a moment, before raising an eyebrow. "Erephis, you can wield staves?"

"No... But I like, re-researching the magic, attached. I'll pay you, b-back, by the way." The snake grabbed onto Seilan's sleeve and began to tug him towards the exit.

"Pay me back--" Lavinia glanced at her side, one of her coin pouches missing. "When did you--!?"

"My t-tail is long." She stuck her tongue out just a bit, and the vampire simply sighed.

"Just make sure someone uses that eventually! Goodness..."

"It's odd that you would look down on monsters, considering you're no human. Have the Church''s manipulations really gone so far?" Nessraya replied, wondering what exactly this strange monster was going on about. Had she been brainwashed? Indoctrination seemed... unlikely, the church didn't like to keep their kind alive long enough for that sort of thing. Either way, her attempt to de-escalate things and get Ayane to safety had clearly failed, and when this Ariana cut Ayane's throat and tossed her aside, it was immediately time to spring into action. Lunging towards Ayane, Nessraya held one hand back away from the oni, gathering energy as she approached the released hostage. Arcing the bolt of dark lightning high enough over Ayane to clear the oni... it wasn't entirely likely to actually hit the fleeing agent, but it could hopefully force her to evade and give Amera a better shot at catching her.

Speaking of catching, as Ayane fell into her, Nessraya immediately pressed her other hand into the oni's bleeding throat, pulsing healing magic into her wound.

"Just try to relax, Ayane. Don't make any rash moves, I'll have you healed in seconds. If you struggle and swallow too much blood, you'll regret it later."

As the bolt of lightning caught up to Ariana, just as she turned the corner, it caught her cape, setting the garment on fire. Just barely out of range for a direct strike... But, something was flying back towards the general!?

"Hey, whoa!?" Amera dodged to the side just in time, as the same spell flew towards Nessraya and Ayane on the ground, another bolt arcing towards Xalrei! "Wh-What the hell!? Nessraya! Where are you aiming!?"

Bladen was lucky enough to have taken off, as it jumped to where he had been standing moments before.

Nessraya just barely caught what had happened out of the corner of her eye... her spell had been redirected at her? There wasn't time to dodge without leaving Ayane in the direct line of fire, so the General did the best she could in the dire situation, moving Ayane behind her as she continued the emergency triage. Taking the bolt to her back was far from pleasant, an agonizing pain racking her body, forcibly pausing her healing as she shuddered and shook in place. That wasn't Ariana's magic, it was too potent... it was a complete redirection of Nessraya's own spell.

"Guh... damn it. Glad I learned about that when there wasn't anyone around to finish me off... I guess..." Nessraya sputtered, coughing and spitting blood onto the cobblestone as she finished closing Ayane's neck wound. If anyone else had taken a hit from that, they would need immediate healing as well... what a disaster.

"Dammit!" Bladen jumped into the air, wings flaring out to their full size quickly, launching himself into the air quickly. The flash of magic from Ness flew off, leaving the woman's cape on fire. But as he flew up a bit higher, suddenly a streak of lightning came striking back, aimed for the General but also the rest of them. He was high enough in the air that he could avoid it, and he pushed forward through the air instead, figuring there wasn't anything he could do about magic that wouldn't be better than him chasing after their target.

He pushed himself, cutting directly across the building where she had turned the corner, starting to gain ground. She'd had the advantage of a head start, but he wasn't constrained to the streets. If she kept going at her pace, he was going to catch up sooner rather than later.

--------------------------------------------------------------

So it was all from a book. That was something. Someone knew about their dreams. That had to mean something. "No, please, thou must not apologize. It is mine to be worrying. Any information is better than nothing. And any chance is better than being told that nothing is known of my people."

She smiled at Marina, knowing she was trying to comfort her. "I will be ok. I will stay with you for now, yes, as said. There is not much else for me to do. What was your plans, here in this place?"

The oni princess did not let up her glare, especially after she revealed her intentions. "So I was just a pawn to you..." Ayane wanted nothing more than to break free of this and fight back. She heard a whisper, and a promise of a cure. "Ariana, I will not-!" However it appeared Ayane had waited too long for that moment to counter. The cold steel on her neck drug across it and the next thing Ayane felt was warm blood. Her own blood. Her expression of rage had quickly twisted into one of shock, and perhaps slight fear. Her body hit the cobblestone pavement, and she laid on her side caught in a swirl of emotions. Absolute anger and embarrassment that she let this happen. Her clenched hand shook in rage, it was all she could do at the moment. 'Ariana...I will not forget this name...'

She could hear a crash of lightning against someone, but she wasn't turned in the direction she needed to be to see it. The next thing she saw was the bloodied general, though she wasn't injured enough to stop her from healing Ayane's neck. "...!" The shock to Ayane's body left her as the wound closed, and the oni quickly stood back up. "..." Ayane wanted nothing more than to pursue that masked snake for what she did, but Nessraya saved her life. She couldn't just leave her here. Luckily for her Ayane still had a Vulnerary on hand, she quickly got to Nessraya's back and started to apply the salve to the burn.

Amera hadn’t needed to call her to action; as soon as Ayane had been shoved aside the dragon was in motion, leaping to action and chasing after the lap dog of the church. Bladen had already taken to the air, there was no reason to double down on that approach, so instead Xalrei channeled her magic she knew would work. As lightning arced across her limbs, Nessraya's magic arced towards Ariana and then back at her! She just barely managed to dodge, the bolt of thunder close enough that she could feel the heat rush passed her wing. Her close shave only made her more furious, made her push herself harder, and soon she was right behind Amera, keeping pace with the beast woman as she chased down Ariana.

"Ugh...!" Ariana hadn't been able to dodge the spell entirely, though it seemed her armor was functioning as it should. It hadn't managed to strike her three pursuers, though... "Mmm... Men, I need escort. Gather outside the walls!" She'd need to jump the fort's entire wall... It would take serious effort, but it was how she'd gotten in. As long as her body held out after that attack...

"Get back here, damn you! Rahh!" Amera turned the corner, furious, flinging a spell towards Ariana! The bolt of thunder struck her back, making her stumble for a moment, as she continued to run-- But! "Wh-Whoa!?" Amera had to stop running and dive out of the way as her own spell flew back towards her! "Dammit... What kind of magic is that!? Fuck!" There was no way she was going to catch up now... Bladen and Xalrei were still chasing after her! They had a chance!

"Dammit...!" Ariana could see the wall, but after taking two spells... With her body giving up as she tried to steel herself for a hard jump, she spun around and pulled out her sword, the blade shimmering under the sun. "Stay back! I came to give you a warning, nothing more. Ayane will suffer no injuries; I did what I had to knowing Nessraya was present. If you continue this chase, I WILL strike you down! Tundyssa!" Ariana belted the name out towards Xalrei, hoping to shake her. She could take either of them alone, without issue, but together...

She'd slowed. She must have been more injured by those spells than she had let on. As she braced for their attack, she was clearly trying to bluff her way out of this. She was injured and the two of them were about to swoop down in one of the stranger pincer moves Bladen had ever participated in, but that was the advantage of flight. At the end of her yelling at them to back off, she shouted a name, seemingly directed at Xal. From the way it only caused her to speed up, clearly it hit something deep. Her mother? As he quickly swooped up, gaining a bit more altitude, he saw a pink glow gathering around Xal's eyes. More magic. Good. "Now Xal, we both strike!" And he was plunging down, wings tucked in tight to his body, leaving him a missile headed straight downward at the interloper. His sword was drawn, but currently tucked up in against his body, allowing him to pick up greater speed. If he pulled this off, he would bring the sword out to the side just before reaching striking distance and then down on the enemy with the full force of his descent behind it. And then hopefully have time to flare his wings and slow down before he smashed into the pavement. If not... Well, they had good healers in their group. They could fix a broken bone or ten.

"Ahh... thank you Ayane." Nessraya managed, the oni having applied her vulnerary to the General's newly acquired burn wounds after her neck was no longer in the process of being re-attached. Given she didn't see anyone else on the ground, the others must have managed to evade the counterspell and continue their pursuit. There was little chance of her contributing to the chase at this point, but if they did catch Ariana, someone might have been injured... beginning to get to her feet, it was clear that Nessraya was still shaky, only barely managing to stand up straight, shuddering as she bit back the pain coursing through her flesh. The vulnerary helped to be certain, but the salve wasn't as instantaneous relief as a proper healing would have been. It would at least stem any further damage.

Xalrei didn't care any for the miniature speech Ariana was handing out to her even as she drew her weapon. If she had wanted to settle this peacefully she shouldn't have put a dagger to Ayane's neck! Xalrei continued her charge, Requiem gripped firmly in her claw, but then Ariana made a terrible mistake. "Who the fuck gave you that name!? I'll fucking kill you!" If Xalrei hadn't learned the truth from Asami and Laselia, perhaps the name would've given her pause. Not from shock, but from confusion as to what the weird human was talking about. However, Xalrei knew damn well who she was, who she would've been if it hadn't been for some wannabe hero taking a holy sword to her parents! She was beyond furious now, her eyes beginning to glow like they had back in the forest, as she charged ever faster at the woman with her 'holy' sword drawn. Requiem, wake the fuck up! You're getting fed this bitch's soul!

As Bladen dropped from above, Xalrei readied Requiem, continuing her charge at Ariana until the last second. With a heavy stomp, and an emergency opening of her wings, Xalrei ended her charge with a heavy stomp in front of Ariana and thrust Requiem at the wannabe human with all her might.

Veronica came out of the forge, moments after Ayane began to apply the salve to Nessraya's back. All the shouting had spooked her, but curiosity got the best of her. "General? What... Happened?" That injury was serious, Veronica disappearing inside for just a moment, coming back out with a salve of her own. "Here. Use this." She held it out to Ayane. "Elixir. Fix, wounds... Who did this?"

Requiem had been conserving its power. Ever since they entered the peaceful town, it had not wanted to waste anymore of the energy that it had managed to store. Even when Xalrei handed it over to the blacksmith at the forge, it had done its best not to engage any of its abilities. Any energy spent while asleep would have only served to weaken it when real battle would approach.

It seemed it would not have to wait long... But there was a problem. A problem that Requiem, dormant as it had been, could not warn Xalrei of as she went to attack.

Xalrei, stop! That armor, that creature, they aren't--!

"That sword...!" Ariana steeled herself for the coming impact, completely ignoring Xalrei after realizing what she was wielding. Even as it transformed into a spear, ready to stab through her, Ariana focused on the incoming bird. At the moment of impact, she flung her sword up, catching his own, as the ground cracked beneath her. Xalrei swung in to her side, and--

So much happened in the seconds that followed. The impact from Bladen's dive bomb cracked the mask beneath her sword, a chip of his weapon having blown off in the clash, cutting into the top of it. As the crack began to spread, Xalrei's spear... Bounced off of her armor entirely. The resulting clang, and the look on Ariana's face, was enough to tell that several of her ribs had broken from the impact... But the armor remained in tact. Her face, though...

Bladen's strike and the results from it had made it split apart, revealing... Marina's face. The only difference were the bright green, catlike eyes scowling up at Bladen, instead of Marina's deep blue.

"Bastards!" Her counter was swift, unleashing the full force of her strength to push Bladen away-- send him flying, along with his sword! Xalrei received less, but a swift gauntlet to the face gave Ariana the space she needed.

Right on time, as well.

"Gwahhh!" One of the militia stationed near the main gate went flying, as several heavily armored knights began to push their way inside the town. The seemed to be wearing armor similar to Ariana's own, equipped with fresh weaponry, and imposing shields.

Ariana spit up blood, glancing between Xalrei and Bladen both. "You can let them take me, or we can keep this up, and they can kill you for the chance at taking me down. What'll it be!?"

Amera had caught up in the mean time, noticing the commotion coming from the front gates. "Fuck... Xalrei, Bladen, she isn't worth it. By the time we get the rest of the group here, the damage they'll cause...!" Amera wasn't going to let this woman's life matter more than saving her town, rushing to back up her men.

"Choose, monsters!"

Requiem had tried to warn her about Ariana's armor, but it had been too late, Xalrei too committed to her method of attack. She hadn't thought there'd be an Ariana left to counter her, so the gauntlet to her face was entirely unexpected, Xalrei stumbling back a few steps before she could right her stance. Her nose was bleeding, she could feel it dripping onto the ground below, and her arm was shaking from having the impact of her blow be redirected back to her. As she settled her death glare onto Ariana, eyes still alit, she wiped at her nose with her free claw. If it weren't for the displaced scream, and Amera running up behind her, Xalrei would've immediately charged at her again for another clash, no matter how good her armor was, she could only handle so many broken ribs.

"Run the fuck away then," Xalrei snarled out as she spit onto the ground, towards Ariana. "When we meet next, I'll put you in the dirt where you belong, 'Hero'." While her sharing a face with Marina was a shock, it explained her 'holy' sword, as well as made Xalrei want her dead all the more. Unfortunately, she couldn't yet act on all her buried emotions for the hero; furious as she was, Xalrei still had her sense. Amera was right, killing her now wasn't worth the trade off. "Go on, get out! And drag your crutches with you."

His sword fell, then crashed against a solid force as his enemy ignored Xal entirely to counter his blow. His sword cracked, failing in the moment of contact, but so too did her mask. He had just a second to see it before getting tossed backwards as easily as a child might throw a rag doll. His surprise at seeing the Hero's face there, with brilliant green eyes instead of the blue he was used to was enough to stun him long enough that he couldn't right himself. He slammed into a nearby building, crumpling to the ground while his sword went flying. "Gah, dammit..." He tried to straighten, making it to one knee, before faltering, barely catching himself before he ended up in a heap once more.

But it was over. He knew that much. His sword was somewhere, leaving him with his fists and an unreliable source of magic. Magic that would inevitably just be reflected back at him even if he did manage to make it work. He stared at the white armor clad "Hero", confusion tinged with fear on his face. Those eyes, seeming alien and wrong in her face, stared at them full of what he could only assume was hate and rage. "Get out. But don't think this group will let you get your wish so easily." It was easy to talk brave. But he knew when he was outmatched. This wasn't a fight he had any chance of winning, now or later. But especially not unarmed and hurting.

"True, we just might see her along the way." Agni thought it best to give Taliyah some space then. A moment more to collect herself, after her tears were wiped by Bridgit. Taliyah had posed Bridgit a question if she'd come along. Agni decided not to interject further, with simply a nod to follow her words.

To Aithlin however, Agni bid a quick farewell. "Don't get too drunk in case we need you... maybe we should've asked Jade or Lavinia before your experiment." Despite continued formalities, he held a jovial tone matching the subject matter... ah, he nearly missed a perfect opportunity. "Don't lose your head out there."

The smirk was warranted.

The idea of a double date was genius, and Gabriela was almost jealous she didn't come up with it herself. ''You have got yourself a deal, Jade.'' Thoughts of how romantic a real first date with Ren would be got in her mind. Having a nice meal together, maybe hold some hands, perhaps even slip a kiss or two... now that was what a girl really needed after hearing such awful news.

Unfortunately, those happy thoughts were swiftly replaced with screams and other loud noises. There was a commotion going on, most likely near the front gate. ''Hey, Jade. Do you hear that? I hate to be that person, but there's a lot of loud noises, people talking very loudly, and trouble.. well, it tends to follow our group wherever we go. What do you say we take a look before we enter the forge?''

Ah, a Berserk staff... quite an expensive purchase to make for research, considering she couldn't use it. And not even with her own money, at that. At least the vampire didn't seem to mind much. Ah, his sleeve--

"Hold on, where exactly are we going...? I can't just use my magic in town, there's no way the townspeople will let me do that. Nobody at the training grounds is looking to stand in the way of a Thunder spell either..."

...ah, she couldn't possibly want to observe his casting from the city walls, could she? Perhaps his bedroll would have served better being set atop the walls instead, between this and the events of the past week.

"...well, I suppose I don't mind, as long as you've an idea of where you want to go. Now is as good a time as any, after all."

"Hmm... I suppose I will follow, yes." Taiyute nodded as she made her way to the desk after Erephis purchased the staff. She thought this new book, once she was able to understand it, could be useful to the cause. "This will all be miss," the Genasi reached into her coin pouch, slowly counting out money...

"One, two," Eventually counting out till she had her money out that she need. 600 Gold all counted out for the shopkeeper.

Taiyute buys the Elwind tome!

Erephis and Seilan were already on the way out, but Taiyute had one other idea in mind...

"Thank you Lavinia, I would appreciate your company," Marina humbly nodded. It was nothing against Astraea, but Marina was too scared to be out and about without someone she was comfortable with. Astraea was nice, but it wasn't enough to keep her anxieties at bay.

A thought went through her mind, until--

"Miss Marina," Taiyute then approached the Hero, reaching into her pouch, pulling out the rabbit's foot she obtained back during their last fight, then handing it over, "You have been having rough times yes? I have hoping things will improve," she spoke, giving a nod.

Marina took it, modestly, and held it in her hand.

Taiyute gives Marina the Rabbit's Foot.

As she started to reply, she felt like she was choking on her words, "T-Thank you, Taiyute. I appreciate it." The Hero cracked a light smile as a small tear formed. She wasn't ready for someone to suddenly come up and gift her with something. Focusing back to the Genasi, she picked herself back up again, "U-Uh anyway, um... you should go catch them!"

Taiyute simply nodded, and gave a bow to Marina, Lavinia, and Astraea before heading out the door to catch up with the other duo.

Marina put the foot in her pouch, she wasn't sure if she should use it or not just yet, giving a sigh. Shaking her head, she turned back to the other two, "I um, I did have an idea actually. I heard from... I think it was Gabriela. Either her or Jade that there was a fortune teller here, right? If she's able Lavinia, um... would you like to know more about my world?" She asked with a tilt, "Astraea, you're invited too of course. Sorry."

Mmm, good, the siren was in agreement. It would be an evening to look forward to. But currently...

Gabriela was absolutely correct, there was quite a racket. A loud crash and sizzle from one side--ahead and to the left, coming almost exactly from their destination--with the accompanying smell of smoking flesh and ionized electricity. Then there was also a sound of steel on steel, and crashing bodies from vaguely behind them, as well as a fierce clamor and shouting from off on their right, in the direction of the main gates. Jade wasn't prepared for fighting, not in her ideal condition anyway. Her nightmares were stabled, and her guns were in the wagon. Sure, if she let herself go, her entire body could be considered a weapon, but losing control to that extent, or to actively try to channel the full strength she was constantly keeping held back... not unless it was life and death. If there was an invasion at the gates, or someone trying to mount the walls, better to fall back and rearm than to rush there as is. But... was that?

"I think that's the General ahead there, near the entrance to the forge," the merchant frowned as she focused forward. "Better to ask her if she knows what's going on than get caught up in something we're not prepared for." The zombie increased the speed of her shambling toward their destination, now with added questions on the agenda, rather than just the one's she'd been planning to ask about the ruined gun. When the pair arrived, Ayane had just finished applying some healing salve to the succubus's wounds. Something had very clearly gone down, and in a big way.

"Excuse the asking, General Nessraya, but what exactly just happened? We were on our way over from the fortune-teller's but it seems as if all hell has broken loose? Is the fort under attack?"

Bridgit wants to answer yes, wanting to follow the others and try to bond some more, but at the mention of the Hero the Pureblood's mouth quickly closes with an audible click.  A troubled expression passes through her face, before smoothing over to a more neutral look.  She knows well enough that Lavinia is with the little human, and as much as she loathes the idea of being near the girl...

"Wherever the little human is, my dear sister is sure to be there as well," she replies haughtily, moreso towards Marina than at the other two.  "If anything we would like to update Lavinia on what has been happening," is then added, looking away and twirling a lock of hair between her fingers before blinking and taking the sudden bag being offered by Aithlin.  "T-Thank you, much appreciated," and her tone is softer then, the Pureblood feeling her lips twitch slightly upward in a small smile.

"A-Anyway, let's get going shall we?" she offers,  only to freeze after hearing Agni's pun towards the Dullahan.  "...." Quickly turning away she bites the inside of her cheek, swallowing back laughter as she dares not to look at the other two.

The Vulnerary did it's best, but there were still some noteworthy marks. Ayane was about to use another one until Veronica came out and threw out an Elixir, which she caught quickly. "...thank you." She spoke, still quite angry. But she held back and continued to finish the rest of the rub down with the Elixir. "A masked woman did this..." Despite doing her best to hold herself back the anger had returned. "...general, I must go. Your wound should be fine by this point." She put the empty bottle on the table once her job was done, then rushed out after the rest of the group. She had some ground to make up.
