Hi! I’ve been thinking about getting into this TCG and I have a few questions. First off I’m wondering what starter decks are the best for new players. Second, with the starter decks are there any cheap upgrades I can give them? If not upgrades cheap decks I can build from the decks. Thanks for any responses!

Welcome, friend! To get started, are you playing just on your own, or trying to play with others? Cipher technically runs a set rotation format that means you can't play cards that are too old, but if you're not planning to play in any official tournaments you should be fine with any of the Starter Decks. I think I would recommend one of the newer ones if you want relatively good cards, since they're newer they're less likely to have been affected by powercreep, but if you're just trying to play with characters you like, so far there are Starter Decks for Shadow Dragon, Awakening, both sides of Fates, Path of Radiance, TMS#FE, Binding Blade, Genealogy of the Holy War, Blazing Sword, and the new one which is kind of for Heroes, you can pick whichever one has the most characters you like if you're just trying to play for that. As for cheap upgrades, there's actually a Thread here on the Forum where you can buy singles of cards you want from others on here, I'd probably go check that and see if you notice any characters you like. If you're not sure what any specific character or card does, Serenes' Cipher Library is your best friend, it has translations for all but the newest set right now, they're working on adding the new set in, and you can pull up individual characters to see what cards they have and what they do.
