How to redeem fire emblem to my friends

An older game would also be good. You're playing FE7, right? So just show them FE7. It's a fairly tame game, as I recall.

If we went off my friends, FE7 would be an issue. Lyn mode stopped one friend from ever giving the series another shot because of too much tutorial. Hell, I can relate given how Lyn mode bored me to tears the first time I played FE7.

Know your audience and pick accordingly if you're going with suggestions. If you want to stop them from focusing on the waifu aspect, then pick a game that does likewise (let's face it, Awakening and Fates are the ones that really went down that route. Three houses to some degree from what we know)

Likewise, tutorial length, animation style, artstyle. Go with a game you think will resonate with them regardless of whether it's the "best" or not. The best game is a matter of opinion after all.

Edit: No offense about the Lyn mode thing. My complaint is how hand-holdy it was. I actually do like Lyn as a character.

If going by my earlier suggestion and actually lending the game, it'd be wise to suggest to do HM (but probably NM for the following route). Which is possible since you've already unlocked it. That's actually something I tried once and it worked out.

However, I think it's more common to see people looking at Fire Emblem and thinking it looks way to hard. But yes, it's basically individual.

I have another solution: Be my friend and I'll play Fire Emblem 9/10 times you ask me to.

I guess to some people it can make the game feel less serious 😕

To those people I’d like to point them in the direction of shows like Madoka Magica or Fate/Zero cause just because it’s “anime” doesn’t mean it can’t tell serious or dark stories. Hell the fate series started off as an eroge visual novel of all things. I honestly despise this kind of mentality cause it shows how immature those kinds of people can be

Seconded. And if they don't respond positively after you do this, then sadly they probably never will, so you're better off dropping it there.

Some people aren't into any video game that isn't Halo or Fortnite or CoD etc. Some people don't like video games that tell a story like a movie would, they just want to shoot things and see blood splatters. To each their own but they don't know what they're missing.

The issue he brought up is something the fans did. He mentioned fanart, likely of the risque kind.

1. I absolutely agree with this, but they aren't into games like that, they just don't like waifu culture at all.

2. Yes I think a lot of this issue is that the majority of the spotlight imo falls on the weird side of the fans who are ridiculously hooked on the waifu anime aspects of the series. Which is just very very unfortunate because it robs many of what could be a great experience 😞

(Note that this is talking largely, if not entirely about Awakening. I haven't played enough of Fates yet to make a fair critique in this area.)

Honestly, I would just tell them that the "Shipping Emblem" aspects of the series are overblown. Sure, there's marriage, the endings changes as well as some dialogue, and the avatar gets an exclusive scene, but that's really it. There are no dating scenes, no kissing scenes, you can't screw up a romance because you picked the wrong choice, no one becomes jealous of each other, and so on. There is an overall lack of dating game tropes, which makes the games frequent criticism and praise in this area all the more curious.

Heck, you can pair two people up purely for gameplay purposes, and not even in a "eugenics simulator" way. It can really be as simple as "these two units have great synergy on the battlefield, and I want to pair them up for the exclusive S rank bonuses to make them even more powerful." Even the shipping aspect can be ignored. I could care less about what Stahl and Panne are like as a couple, but that didn't prevent their S support from making Stahl my favorite character.

As for fanservice, well, I would say that it's only really distracting in battles. The portraits actually do a good job of either hiding a characters assets (To ranging degrees of sucess. Tharja holding a book works very well, while her daughter using a bow is less effective) or presenting them on such a way that it isn't meant to be titillating (i.e. Panne and to a lesser degree Tiki. Shirtless males also fall into this category). Even in battles, it's never shoved in the players face.

That said, the fanservice is difficult to ignore largely because it doesn't make sense. Someone would want more fabric on their legs if on a horse or flying creature, not less. It's harder to notice that the shapeshifter characters aren't wearing pants because they're either transformed or reclassed most of the time, but once you know it's hard to ignore. This is more a problem with the overall design of the classes, though, and focusing on just the fanservice would be ignoring how strange other classes look, regardless of how much skin is shown.

TL;DR Tell your friends that you can view the marriage mechanics from purely a gameplay perspective, and that while the fanservice is noticable, it's not shoved in their face.

Oh yeah, certainly don't let them play FE7, I mean, just show them a couple of chapters or something.

I wonder if fans of other franchises like Senran Kagura or whatever are so insecure about what their games are about.

Nope. I am not insecure. I have played Senran Kagura and the Japanese Fates' skinship mini game in public before.

I have not tried spam tapping Heroes' Catalog of Heroes in public though. Unless they are looking at your screen, people will probably think you are watching porn or something.

  • 2 weeks later...

my advice is: don't force others to enjoy what you enjoy

if they don't like fire emblem (even though that's just a superficial opinion), they just don't like it, it may not be for them

sure, they could change their mind by actually playing a fe title, if they're willing to give the series a try, but that's up to them to decide (i made my friends change their mind after they played fates by advicing them to play fe7 and 9, and fe10 later on: they fell in love with these 3 games, and now they want to play other fe titles too)

ANYTIME I TALK ABOUT FIRE EMBLEM TO ANYONE, THEY CALL IT WAIFU ANIME TRASH!!! 😧 No matter how I try to explain gameplay people just shove fanart of Nowi and Tiki in my face

While I agree with the fact that the series has shown signs of degradation since Awakening, it's not dead in the water...yet. Try to talk to them about the older game (I. E. Anything that is pre-Awakening) and the merits these games have when compared to the newer ones.
