I mean, the best way to ensure your putsch's legacy will endure is keeping the imperial line's heirs secure so you can model them to your liking, preferably far away from any potential loyalist power base and lording over their live to your puppet emperor until the moment your power is assured/ they are the only heir left and you have to bring them back, period. It also helps in making sense that even though they are childhood friends felix will move over to your side. Dimitri looked boring on the surface, but he has become more and more intriguing to me. Spoiler Dimitri and Felix both took part in suppressing a western rebellion in 1178, Felix was a squire while Dimitri was a "distinguished commander" despite his age.
