A pretty old term for an authoritarian ruler, although the word is typically used for a regime rather than just one person (see Hegemony). And like another user pointed out, "Hegemony" a term used for a type of dictatorship. Specifically, it refers to a state's dominion over other states, which makes it a rather fitting term for Edelgard.
