World maps in hacks?

Pretty unnecessary but anyways...

I'm currently working very enthusiastic on my first (probably bad) hack. I customised some roads for my over world map,

deleted some roads I didn't need, when suddenly all roads were gone. Everytime I tried to add new roads the game would be just

competly messed up. I have a backup file, but it would take pretty long to restore all what was done from that point on.

So I wonder if a world map is that important, or I should do it like Fe7.
