Garlyle
Chapter 5 Spoiler : All right folks, I have a plan. We go around the mountain and seize the castle. Step 1, put Rutger on the fort before the enemy takes it. : Roger: Urgh, why me? : Step 2, old man goes backward and stay on those mountains.: Mountains sounds safe. : Everyone else regroup and have some snacks. : … : All right Rutger, leave this one to me.: … : These guys are tough, Lugh could you help? : Magic is everything!: Hey, you stole that line. : Allow me to block the path to the others sire. : I feel kind of sleepy : Nice, these guys can't touch us while we're on these forts : He can : All right guys, let's cut our way through on some of them : We should be careful with their nomads. : I think I'll take a nap on these mountains : Weak : Oh crap, they are onto me!!: Whoops, sorry about that banana boy, I'll pay more attention next time. : Take out one more of them. : I'll take the forest for our defense. : Well, I guess it's time to soften these guys a little. : Ooh, going in for the kill! : I feel like I became a bit stronger. : Let's go Alen, we can form a defensive line here. : Come here little boy, they can see you.: Heeey : Whoa, these guys can do a lot of damage, better be careful. : Zzzzzzzz : Oh God, somebody help me, please! : Marcus, you were right, these nomads are dangerous.: Our Rapiers and Horseslayers also won't work against them, : I smell dead people around here. : Here Lady Clarine, use this staff to heal our wounded allies. Btw, why do you have a Fire tome with you?: I don't remember. : Flying to the rescue!! : … : Their formation is falling apart. : Attacking archers from range is fun! : Look at our banana growing.: Please don't say that again… : We cornered this nomad, he doesn't stand a chance now. : Heh, no Close Counter sucks for him. : Zzzzzzzz : Oh look, I found a lance. It looks very strong, but it's kind of heavy. : Let's march forward, but keep that nomad cornered. : We defeated him! : Here you go Lugh, take this fresh Fire tome. Btw, why are you holding a Steel Blade., I don't know, you can have it. : Let them come to us. : Scrubs can't hit me. : Zzzzzzzz : It looks like those bandits have only 19% chance to hit our wagon. : Oh no, another nomad is ahead of us. : Who wants this kill? : Allow me. : Behold the power of my healing technique: Girl, it's just 1 hp : We need heavy attacks against him : Here Lance, use this lance to defeat our enemy.: I'd rather have him run at me instead, he's too fast. : Just as planned : Oh no! : They are on to us now. Proceed with caution. : … : Just like last time. : Lance, one day I'll surpass you. : Healing Power!: Hey, could you heal ME instead? : Time to go for that fort. I'll block it's front door somehow. : Lance, what's with your arm?: It's out of control!! : I need healing : Sorry, you are too far away, can't hear you: … : Rangers, attack that evil mercenary! : Don't worry Rutger, I'll save you : I'm having a killing streak. : Old man still got it. : Front door is blocked.: Good job Shanna. Chad, get over there and lock all their doors.: I'm a thief, I'm opening locks, not closing them.: Same thing. : You must be grateful!: … : I come froma a fine bloodline, so this is only expected.: Did she just turned into her Heroes self? : Almost there, let's bait more of them. : I'm too young to die… : Pegasus Riders are strong against mages, Shanna can bait on the other side.: (Should I tell him it only works in thr sequels? Hmmm…) : This Rutger-Alen combo is really working out. : I shall save you! : You are in their sight boy. : I place Dieck in bait mode to lure that fool from the mountain and end my turn. This is now piece of cake. : Wtf, that's a Steel Blade!? : Wait, 7% really? : Heeeelp, my pegasus feathers are burniiing!: … : Someone said fried wings?: She's creepy : No, my luck just ran out! : Heh, you can't double me? What's wrong with you? : I've got him. : You've got to be kidding me. : I'm sorry, I'm sorry : At least banana boy got him : He's weakened, take it little ones. : Death from above! : That guy looks sturdy, it might take a few turns for you to take him out Dieck. : A few turns, eh? Hold my beer! : Here comes their reinforcements. : There there pegasus. : Hey Elen, I think I saw a bench over there. : Axes will never beat me. : Coming through! : Time to soften the big guy : Get back here, he also has a Hand Axe. : Back in business for the killing. : Stay alive old man. : I told you I can't lock doors.: Just stay there for a while. : I feel like I am getting faster. : This is going to take a while. : The way is open, we should move in. : Hard work does pay off.: What are you talking about? : Incoming! : I'll carry this run. : I think I'm in love. : … : All right, time to take a break. Garlyle
Lot, check this out. This map is swarming with lance users. Nice, axes will have a clear advantage on this map. I'm going with this team. Sorry, I didn't had time to write the whole thing, so I'll switch back to more simplistic post. Spoiler Dieck and Lance will bait the swordsman, who are the fastest enemies on the map. Once they are done, the rest should be easy. Also gave some toys for Dorothy, as I have more fate in her that most people. The bait worked as expected. The right one was taken care with the help of Lugh. And Dieck on the other side reached Lv. 10. I think that's a good thing, but I'd push his levelling futher more before promotion, his stats are not quite there yet. I rushed on the mages. 2 healers were enough to patch them up afterward. Just had to rescue drop Clarine out of the danger zone and we're set. They were in the awkward position where 3 attacks were able to target them. Fortunately everybody survived. And here's another kill for Shanna, I think she needs some exp. Had no choice but to get Rutger out of there. Found some room for Dorothy to deal some damage. It's nice to see her double this early on. Also there was an unexpected Marcus-Roy support conversation. Healers gonna heal On the right the cavs prepare with Javelins against those bad guys. You can't touch Shanna. Noone can. That worked out pretty well. I think after getting rid of the armored knights the rest should be easy. Simple soldiers with lances are very slow in this game. Dorothy agrees with me. Hey, if there's a kill for Roy, he should take it. I'm going to leave Shanna here and hope that the guy on the left will run into her. Much needed healing for Alen. This is perfect. Who should take the kill? I know this is silly, but this way I can get rid of both of them this turn. I think Rutger should catch up with Dieck as soon as possible, so I'll get him a free kill. Had to heal Dieck, now that we talk about him. My point with Shanna still stands. Chad is en route for his job to raid the right side of the map. There's plenty of loot for this run over there, and little things to do on the left. We'll get Sue with the Door Key. Just as planned, the way on the right is open. Once Cath shows up, Roy is ready to go. And that was the last of them. Marcus needs healing. Lance will have the honor to rescue Sue from her imprisonment. Ah, perfect timing. I have no idea why she didn't move on the first turn, but I think it's because all the ways were blocked by my units. This is the first time I experienced this. Time to Unlock Doors. The next turn Roy and Cath had a little talk. No rewards, but at least she stops opening doors and chests and heads to the exit instead. Hey guys, here's some money. Use it for whatever you want it to. You think Dorothy is in target sight, but it's actually that guy who's in her range now. This was unusual from me, but instead of carrying Roy all the way over there, I brough Sue outside instead. It works just as well. With this guy out of the way, it's time to move the others up in the middle. We did a lot of things down there already. Thanks Chad, that makes up for all the Silver Lance uses I had in the last chapter. I am the protagonist of this game, and you are my slave now. She's a good unit, if you want I can support her résumé. I call this a good level up on Dorothy. Watch out. I can take the Lockpick from her? Don't mind if I do. Chad is getting a lot of things on his hands, time for Lugh to help him out. I wanted to work on their support too. The first wave has arrived, and we're in range for the party. Sue is heading right, as Chad will get something for her very soon. Saul is going to block the reinforcements from the bottom. This went better than expected. 3rd door is open right here. Umm, Marcus. If you could do some chip damage, that'd be great. I'll show these young folks how we battled in my days. Marcus! Stop stealing the exp!! Dieck, you can have the exp of course. We don't want the archers around here. Dorothy arrived just in time for the party. No growth in Str, but overall this is very satisfying. We need to make this work. (also, go Ilia route) Alen is slowly turning into a Lance. And Rutger still need a lot of exp for the promotion. Clarine though... Don't worry, Saul is doing all right. I forgot to check on the range of the mage. Guess it's time to get rid of them already. Sue is now ready to roll. ... You've got to be kidding me! 55% hit with a 2% Crit triggered? For the love of... Why can't you just die? Ok, time to collect my thoughts. This Rutger death hit me really hard. How am I going to explain this one? These mages are indeed no jokes. But that makes the perfect kill for me. I did a healing, but that was some damage on her instead. Good thing she levelled Res, as she's not quite a dodgetank just yet. I wonder who's going to play with this one. Gonzales maybe? Thank god all the mages are gone. Also I don't want to be IN the room when the reinforcements ambush spawns us. Speak of the devil, ... It's that time of the day again. Right side is done, Chad is ready to travel to the west now. Hold the phone, we found a kill for Sue. You can stick that triangle advantage right up your ... Oh look, Lance is getting closer to Alen now. There's another freebie for Dorothy. Also I don't want the mages to stick around here. Let's prepare Marcus for the takedown. In this case, exp stealing is a-ok. And we call it a turn. Saul agrees. This is what Binding Blade is all about. Reasonable kill for Lugh. I could wait another turn to get rid of this guy, but Armorslayer will be available again soon enough. Ok, the boss might be a headache without Rutger. So I decided to just leave Dieck there to be close and personal. I even let the boss attack first, I'm a nice guy you know. Preparing the Chadtrain. Oh, very nice. The level up is not so nice though. And we're there already. I really want him to die this turn. I mean the boss of course. Oh, son of a gun. At least he gave me a favour by attacking Dieck instead of Marcus. And it's gone! All that's left is to cash in... ...allow the reinforcement to come in... ...and to give some exp for Dorothy. You see why I'm doing this yet? Anyway, no room left to rescue her, so I just seized. Didn't care about the Unlock staff, so sorry about that @Saint Rubenio

Saint Rubenio
I'm sorry for being so late to say this, but I think I'm going to pass up on this. See, my turn just so happened to arrive the one week when I had every single exam of this term. Had the last one just yesterday. It wasn't that bad, but I was tired going back home, and I just never were in the mood for FE6. That didn't help, but the real problem is that, while this idea sounded fun in paper... as it turns out, playing with a stranger's team really isn't that enjoyable for me. It's not Rutger's absence (to be honest that made me happy, if anything), but... I don't know, a great part of the magic of FE for me is getting to build my team from scratch, watching it grow. In a playthrough of this sort, that is lost entirely. Then you add one of the game's hardest chapters on top of all that, and, well... I struggled to play through like half of chapter 7 a few days ago, and it was not great. I don't think I'm going to enjoy this. So yeah, really sorry again for quitting in the middle of my turn and wasting everyone's time, but I think I want out of this project. Still, it's a good idea, just not my cup of tea, so don't take this the wrong way. Wish the rest of you luck. I'll keep an eye on this, as an outsider. Eltosian Kadath
That was draining. Garlyle
Taking a peek at the savegame. Looking at the body count mainly. Spoiler Lugh, Lance and Dorothy? I wanted to prove that Dorothy is a worthy unit and you killed her? I am slightly mad about this. Lugh being dead is going to be hard for some people. The way I look at it, it's time to train up Lilina into the cutest nuclear launch in history. Lance is in my eyes the best cavalry unit in this game, but other than slowing the chapters down, it's not a critical loss. Note to self, Dieck is ready. Also Wendy levelled up? Are we that desperate already? Edited November 28, 2019 by Garlyle

I am slightly mad about this. Sorry, her ability to actually hurt armors made her a little too tempting to use. On 11/28/2019 at 2:04 AM, Garlyle said: Also Wendy levelled up? Are we that desperate already? I may have been having a bit too much fun with the triangle attack. (I guess that is a spoiler for next update) Now onto the chapter 7 update. This one was particularly long, hence the spoiler tag. Spoiler Battle Journal: Battle of Ostia, the day before. With the impregnable gates of Ostia before us, its seems all the other tacticians have found convenient excuses not to face it. I on the other hand, have been practicing simulated battles of Ostia with Roy for weeks, going through the tactics of generals as diverse as the legendary DonDon, to Mangs the neverpunished in preparation. Although I suppose I should give a bit of context for why the Lycian League has to take the March of Ostia. The battle wont commence until tomorrow morning, but Merlinus and I have snuck into the city proper under the guise of merchants to scout out the city, which has payed dividends beyond our wildest expectations. Seems Hector hired some mercenaries from Illia to aid the Lycian League, and they remain loyal to our cause, although they were far too cautious to take us at our word. Roy should be able to convince them to join us in battle, but the older one had a worrisome look in his eye, like someone looking for a cause worth dying for. I think I will make reaching them my number one priority. On a more worrisome note, there are wyverns patrolling the inner walls of the castle, which will make tommorow's assault a lot more dangerous, but there are too few here to indicate that Bern has full control over the city. Hopefully I can put an arrow through Bern's plans for Ostia. As for who will lead the assault my first though is but unfortunately Marcus is unable to wield the axes that would be effective against the numerous armored and mounted knights that Ostia is famous for, so against my better judgment I will let Lot tag along instead of Shanna. Battle Journal: Battle of Ostia, Taking the City With the enemy letting down their guard, its time to capture this city. Poor fool, Illians do their mercenary work to feed families and communities, who can use our pay even after death, and our loyalty lets us negotiate prices far higher than other mercenaries. I suppose I should prepare for reinforcements from the rear. This talk of using Lilina as a hostage makes me worry. Roy clearly cares about her, but if they start threatening her I don't know how he will jump. Hopefully they never get the opportunity to move onto plan B. Unfortunately accurate. Wyvern are tough, maneuverable, and dangerous. At least there are only a few instead of an armies worth. Sigh, I was hoping we would catch them unready for battle, but if they are preparing to pacify the mercenaries, that isn't going to happen. Its about time to report into Roy. "And those that haven't have been either executed, or driven into hiding" "Although their leader, Sir Jerrot, wouldn't join us without proof of our authority. If you can talk to them they will surly follow my - our commands." "Technically they were contracted to fight as part of Ostia's forces for the Lyc-" "Even with Hector dead their contract bound them to the Lycian League as part of Ostia's contribution." "...Well put Merlinus." I obje- "...That is a sobering truth" I start by rescue dropping Roy into position to reach the hideout of the mercenaries as soon as possible And start positioning our troops on that side of the city. This shoul- wait there is a commotion up ahead Its the mercenaries That is a particularly deadly vice. The Arena lets one gamble with their life, and there are few who survive indulging in it long. In some ways that is a deadlier vice, but it tends to kill you slower...usually. Unfortunately I am going to have to clear a path for Roy to reach them. That is a lot less accurate than I would like, but the knights of Pharae pulled through and took out one of the Ostian cavalry. That armored knight is too deep into our formation to leave alive, so Dorthy tries finishes him with that heavy steel bow, but Lot has to clean up her miss. At least the miss we had was easy to fix, and with those cleared out, ...I thought the same thing before the disaster of Araphen. And a legendary general. With that Jerrot will ensure his subordinates know of the new chain of command. With that taken care of, Jerrot helps to hold the line, while Treck rescues Roy to safety. Unfortunately there is an armored knight with a javelin behind our lines, so I have Clarine drop Bors from a forest tile (so that extra defense will keep her alive), while Wolt and Chad rescue drop Lugh back so he wont have to risk death from the soldier's javelin finishing him. The line of cavalry is holdi- ...Allen almost died. No, I've got to concentrate, I can't fall apart now, nobody died. We'll make it through this. There is a commotion by the Arena This must be that flirtatious mercenary that Jerrot mentioned. She is lucky to be alive- That boy has got it bad for her. Sage advise for those foolish enough to test there hand at death sports. A foolish plan if I ever heard one. The mines are always in need of coerced labor, and anyone foolish enough to get so close will have those Etrurian vipers that rule the place force them into those death pits eventually. ...That is so adorably sentimental. I hope that poor kid has a better fate than I envisioned, despite her naivete. What a helpless flirt sir Noah is. That helped lift those spirits. Now back to the battle at hand. Time for Lot to prove his worth. Next Allen pulls back to safety (and missing an unlikely javelin throw), while Bors fails to kill thanks to a miss, but more importantly passes The spare silver lance along. That Wyvern has to die, so Wolt has his shot ring true, and Jerrot grabs the Silver lance to miss the kill forcing Lugh to finish him off. Which let him further master the magical arts (+1 magic +1 skill, but I missed the level screen) Dorthy meanwhile fixes Bors's miss for the armored kill. With that dealt with its safe to drop Roy, and get Allen and Wolt healed back up, plus have Bors trade switch to javelin in case he lures the mage into attacking him. Instead everything focused on Lance. ...as any good Illian knows, an archer can put an arrow into the works of any plan. Lance died. I shouldn't have been so...so...no I've got to keep going. There will be time after Ostia has fallen. I hope. Looking on the bright side we have a brand new cavalier to plug this hole. That was conveniently succinct, now le- ... Why are you looking this gift horse in the mouth Roy All right time for Lot to miss, forcing Marcus to pickup the slack. Now for Jerrot tries to take vengeance against Lance's killer, but he has a miss, so Lugh has to finish the job. But before that Dorthy helps Deke save an armor slayer use. Wolt and Noah tag team that Soldier blockading the east, and after some healing, we are ready. Dorthy...I failed her. I could have trade switched her to a lighter weapon when I healed Marcus, and she would have been fine, but I...I...I'm sorry. I should have...I shouldn't have... no I have to finish this. Once we have claimed Ostia I can ask Roy to have me replaced. All those simulated battles with the minis never prepared me for... for... for the responsibility of it all. At least Deke was not idle in my shock, and broke the monster that killed her. Its time for the archers to die. Its time for everything to die. So ends the rebel army's cavaliers. Although that put Lugh in a bit of danger, and so Noah blocks his flank. Allen chips that soldier but I can't draw in two Wyverns at once (as Bors will be drawing in one safely), so he stays injured for now. I should have payed better attention to my army as Chad takes the opportunity to rob one of the houses and the little fool gets caught. At least he is only getting a lecture, and not a sword through the throat. That boy must have a silver tongue, as he talks her out of her jewelry anyway I think I will use this as justification for why the sale of that gem should fund our little army. Time to kill the next Wyvern. Now Jerrot will soften him with the Silver lance for Wolt to ...I'm sorry Dorthy, if you were here the wyvern would be... no, lets finish him with Allen Who has become far more deadly. Deke has declared himself the resident mage killer. Meanwhile Marcus softens up the archer for Lugh to get the kill and become just deadly enough to enemy phase the armored knights. Its not the most elegant of battle lines, but it will have to do. ...I guess it was worthwhile to bring Lot ...but I hope he knows Jerrot has the ranks to use that hammer and halberd of his. Clarine is getting a little more skillful as she heals up our army (+1 skill). I try to save some armor slayer uses while killing this armor, but I have just enough misses that I have to use the same amount anyway (forgot a shot of the missed javelin from Allen trade chaining the armor slayer to Noah) Seems the healer like to practice other skills in their spare time (+1HP +1 Skill) With the enemy army broken, its time to draw in the last Wyvern, whom that crafty little thief Chad tells me holds the purse of the Bernese detachment. That boy is turning into a bona fide spy of Pharae. Meanwhile Lugh is about to use his newfound arcane power to deal with that armored knight. I still have some spare time for my knights to encourage the city of its coming "liberation". ...did that villager just threaten our Jeig- I mean Mar-... why keep up the pretext, I hope Roy gives this army back to someone more competent anyway. Did that villager just threaten our Jeigan? Well their cavalry are dead now. Unless... Seems Treck has stumbled upon a part of the underground Elixir trade. They always try to hook you with a free sample. Seems I am not the only whom has grown morosely pensive by these events. When lord Roy feels like he needs to...I've let everyone down haven't I. Have I erred in trying to follow in the foot steps of giants? Have the great strategies of old so easily become obsolete? How else am I suppose to learn without killing anyone? Don't throw your life away Allen, there must be another way. It is nice to see that we are of a like mind. But these moments of calm can't last. Chad nabs the Bernese treasure, and the rest of the army clears out the Wyvern. the last solder, and that last archer gets one last round to shoot, as Lugh can't quite reach (and he needed to chug a vulnerary anyway. Chad nabs a vulnerary from the healer before we remove him from the picture. Cruel, but with that physic staff on him I can't ignore him. Wait is that...hoof beats? I have a bad feeling about this Time to take advantage of some classic urban warfare tactics, and turn these streets into deadly choke-points. One of the rebels has a silver lance, and both of my Jeigans have taught me how dangerous those are. Hopefully both can hold a point while we whittle them down. Jerrot is proving himself to be a highly effective Jeigan, feeding this kill so easily to Wolt which makes him dodgier. Marcus on the other hand Needs to heal, and should be able to setup a nice kill next turn, if he enemy phases with the horse slayer. With that extra speed Wolt gets the kill Jerrot teed up even easier. Marcus still needs a heal after that Silver hit, but after some rescue dropping Lugh becomes even faster, and more accurate. Treck finishes the last of these cavalry by borrowing the horse slayer. But more are upon us before we have time to breath. (My timing was such that I missed the +1 Hp, but still caught the end of the levelup screen) This one was just defensive enough that Wolt really needed that extra speed. Unfortunately Marcus isn't easily able to setup the kill, so he will get some chip with an axe instead. At least Wolt is getting all these easy kills. If this continues at this pace... I need to finish these guys before the next set arrive, so Marcus passes off the horseslayer but it is a little too heavy (and inaccurate) for that to be safe, so he switches to a basic iron to hold the point (he can just barely survive both the silver and javelin) Lugh softens him up next turn, for Noah to get the kill, and bulk up while doing so, and Trek finishes the last with the horseslayer again. Just in time for the next round of cavaliers. Will this onslaught ever end? Accidentally switched Jerrot's weapon, so Wolt just barely kills and learns some deadly accuracy. Jerrot finally needs some healing, and Wolt is plenty happy to share his vulnerary. This is starting to get routine, but thankfully that is the last of them. And Treck gets bulkier for his troubles. Now all that remains is the Boss, and that last healer, but there is more of the city to secure first. The people of Ostia really love lady Lilina. No wonder the rebels had to hold her hostage to maintain control. Its just too bad we have no one that could use a physic staff. Its nice to see some of the loyalist survived Legance's purges. Hopefully there are other making a stand in there own way. I know I should probably just give this to Deke now...but I think I will let whoever takes over after me take responsibility for it. I simply don't trust my judgement. What sword could repay a Sacaen life debt? Than again in might not have been a Sacaen at all, but everyone knows the stories. A killer sword, truly a potent weapon indeed. So many simulation games try and capture the so called fog of war, but so few do so well. I hope we never have to use this, but it certainly will help if we are ever have to face the dangers of darkness or fog. ...A longbow. An annoying bow to face, as any good Illian knows. Hopefully Wolt can find a use for this. Chad nabs another vulnerary and is trying to reduce the likelihood of his death. After that last healer dies, we regroup around the inner wall, before Chad make a run for this secured armory to the east. And the Ostian rebels call up their last reserves. My plan is to chip them down from beyond the walls, while Chad continues to loot that little armory. As long as I don't kill any of them enemy phase, this should be safe. The soldiers have enough health, and the mages and archer are fast enough to- ...The archers are weighed down by their steel bows. That weight killed not only Dorthy but also...I'm sorry Lugh, you were simply too good for this world. I was too stunned and broken to capture your final moments. You were hardly more than a boy and my failure led to your death. I need to concentrate. Everyone that needs to heals, and Those enemies that can die need to. Seeing Bors's resolve strengthen helps, and despite Lance's death Allen is staying strong, for all of us. Those two were a pair, and if Allen can carry on with Lance I can carry on without him. And Dorthy...and Lugh ...at least she is keeping the army alive. Time to start thinning these enemies out and practice has improved Wolt's accuracy. Bors breaks another soldier, and Jerrot misses the kill on the archer. The two soldiers with steel lances are still advancing, but Roy should be able to hold them off (and distract them from Chad hiding in the corner). He seems too be growing nimbler by the day. This archer escaped death before, and Bors has proven his skill at hitting enemies over the walls. Bors is practically prancing after that kill. Noah goes for the kill and whiffs. That is fine, I have enough means of healing. As for the melee soldiers they aren't a problem. Seems all of this healing has let Saul grow in his magical mastery. Its time to end this Now all that is left is the boss himself. There has been enough death her, and with only a fragile spear in hand I think I will- Bors what are doing? ...You really rattled him. Alright I will spare you watching him break his spear. I have enough healing, can buy more, and I can make it impossible to lose any more units, plus my best armor effective weapons are swords. In the meantime I do a bit of buying (although perhaps not as much as I should have). Before it breaks Clarine is trying to follow in the footsteps of Lugh (+1 magic +1 speed). Once broken Roy claims the kill and Roy ...well what else was I expecting. ...That was not my best. "Thank goodness, I needed some time to recover. I'm sorry lord Roy, I let us all down. So many of our young soldiers died thanks to my strategy." "Don't worry I wont abandon my burden yet. I know we haven't the time to find another tactician, and by the grace of St. Elmine, I promise we will save Lilina." "Your father spoke of finding, and fighting a dragon in his youth. It took a small army, and a living legend to take on a single dragon. I thought him telling tall tales, but what else could have happened to Hector's army..." "Your father spoke of finding both Durandal, and Armads on his quest with Hector, but only with the help of teleportation. Perhaps Hector discovered where they were returned to using the spy network of Ostia."

Eltosian Kadath
Spoiler Battle Journal: Battle of Ostia, Taking the Castle Sorry for the recap fanfare, but I felt we all needed a morale boost. I've got to finish taking this castle. We are still preparing our assault squad, but there is an opportunity to gain some vital info from Legance himself. He is receiving an intelligence report himself it seems. Perhaps I shouldn't be selling myself so short. Our small numbers have moved mountains here, but those lives lost plague my conscience still, and our small numbers makes the losses more pronounced. Does the fool think we will retreat now? If we fall back now, Ostia falls for good, as we will never retake it with the Bernese army to defend it. The way he emphasizes the defense of the throne room he has holed himself up in stinks of cowardice. ...Even more cowardly. Must have a lot of Etrurian blood in him. Seems even the Ostian rebels care about their young ruler. I've got to find some way to save her. If she died I don't know how...Roy will take that. Now to decide on our assault squad. The natural choice is the 3 cavaliers, Deke, both Jeigans, Shanna, Saul, Clarine, and of course Roy, but after a bit of looking around, I decide I need a thief. Now I decide to let Jerrot take over for Marcus, but I almost instantly regret that as a new recruit offers the same services as Chad, only with far more experienced. Lady Lilina inspires a lot of loyalty from the Ostians, for a leader so young. With her cell so deep within the castle... I hope we can get to her before...I don't even want to think about it. Hopefully Narcian takes his time, for taking as great a city, and castle, as Ostia is no quick affair. Bern is a great distance away, so there is a fair chance of that, but Wyvern can cross great distances quickly, if they need to. I start with a bit cautious of opening. Jerrot should be able to survive all the soldiers and archer no problem, and the rest can take one hit at least. The construction of this winding hall is going to make it hard to reach Lilina. She is going to have to find some way to survive on her own until we reach her. I hope she can find some way of escaping those assassins. Sorry Lilina, just hold out a little while longer. Easy picking for our army and Shanna manages to get even dodgier than she was before. We push forward, and Jerrot reinforces his Jeigan cred while drawing in the enemies. But Treck is growing beautifully while clearing the path. The new spy nabs a door key while the soldier is distracted by Allen putting his lance through him. Jerrot and Noah clear out the mage but we are mostly just charging ahead. The armor slayer is close enough to breaking that I take this one out the hard way and Noah gets practice aiming for the joints of armor (+1 HP, +1 Strength, +1 Skill) So far we have mostly been stomping around with the cavalry, but the rebels have prepared a means of stopping cavalry cold. Fortunately Legance's instructions to maintain a defensive position never reached these troops, and he is charging toward his own death instead. But first we need to clear out some room with the help of Treck thanks to a miss. So dies the deadly horse slayer, the only enemy that can really threaten Jerrot on his own. The other soldier has to go as well, and after some healing and trade switching we should be ready for that archer just ahead. The sound of desperate voices echoes from the corridor ahead Some loyalist must be making a stand against the rebels! At least some of the Ostian army will join our Lycian alliance army Bors's sibling? ...Wait, if there is another Ostian armored knight, then that opens up the possibility of using THE TRIANGLE ATTACK !!! That is a fairly low appraisal of our tactical prowess. Than again, after the battle for the city... ...They are knights of Ostia, I know I should lower my expectations like this Barth suggested, but I think this confirms that the Armored Triangle Attack is about to take flight! Its hard to stay grave with the possibility of seeing a triangle attack. Lets cut our way over to our new Ostian friends There goes one soldier, and Bors is so excite at the possibility of seeing his sister again, that even the threat of magic couldn't keep a spring from his step. Takes a bit to remove the archer (in case it isn't clear Noah gets the kill) and once he is gone we press forward Although the loyalists are still arguing over how to proceed. Allen and Jerrot are pulling ahead and Allen is trying to match Jerrot's bravery, while the rest of the army is being slowed down by a fear of death. Our Ostian friends have broken their way through the wall, and just into sight. There are just a few enemies between use and the loyalist now Shanna takes out the soldier, and with that the archer is gone we have cleared the path to the Loyalists. Meanwhile Barth initiates a crafty tactic by rescuing Ogier for Jerrot to help by dropping him in a way that lets Wendy trap that archer in place. And with that our army has safely joined with the Loyalists. Now it is time to setup our first triangle attack, by rescue dropping Bors into position I let her get the kill next turn, and rescue drop her into position to let me get a triangle attack on the mage that is approaching our army next turn. ...Thieves seem to be taking this battle as a chance to loot Ostia, and after I informed Roy he got it into his head that he aught to talk them out of it. I let Wendy borrow the Gant lance for the triangle attack kill, and ...she really is Bors's sister isn't she. Jerrot and Allen are luring in the next wave. Elegant setup of a Triangle Attack is like poetry (I know, its a cheesy haiku) The other armored knight dies to the old Jerrot and Allen tag team. I have stall a bit longer than I should have with those thieves incoming, so we get that door key to one of our cavalry to open up that treasury. ...it was worth a shot, and she has enough health to get the soldier kill next turn which lets her grow deadlier. Now that mage blocking the treasury needs to die but he has a miss which is fine ...as long as something can hit ...Sigh. With that mage still alive that makes dealing with those thieves more complicated. Saul revealing a knack for counter magic is no consolation either. Shanna finishes that irritating mage and Wolt starts working on another Now Jerrot blocks off this treasure room, while we lure the thieves into taking the long way around. Wolt gets a bit faster while killing that mage, and we wait for the thieves to get into position, and in that down time a pair of siblings have the time to reconnect. Its kinda touching that she respects Bors so much that she followed in his footsteps. Too bad Bors is too shocked to see it like that. Bors may want to protect his little sister, but people grow up, and change. That is really touching. ...That complicates things. Seems Barth, Wendy, and Ogier were being pursued, and by enemies with access to armor slayers. The cavaliers should keep the archers distracted, but that swordsman is frustratingly fast. At least Noah seems to know that he is simply there to take hits. Roy finally gets his chance to confront the thieves ...and sees a familiar face. So young and naive. Only the rich nobles can muster up the capitol to improve local infrastructure, which can improve the lives of even the poorest. If the noble is derelict in their duty I suppose there isn't a difference. A good lord improves their lands, building and maintaining roads, and mills, and protective castles, and walls etc. ...They didn't have to die. If only I were better, more careful. Or perhaps she is right, deaths like Lugh, and Dorthy, and Lance are simply a part of war. Are their deaths my hubris, or my belief that it could be avoided? Did that poor girl have to suffer through such a tragedy? No wonder she thinks so poorly of the nobility. Perhaps it is Roy that is the naive one. Not all nobles are noble, and many are just as bad as bandits. ...I wouldn't know what to say either. I'm glad Roy scared her away without having to resort to violence, but just in case lets make sure she, and her creepy follower can't steal from Ostia. Onto matters of war Deke tries for a killer sword kill, as that swordsman is frustratingly fast, but he merely hits, so Shanna blocks up the pathway, and takes the opportunity to chat with Deke. That is nostalgic. Illian mercenary bands always have mercenary captain, and calling them captain is a beloved tradition. ...Big Man? Such a dreadful title. Good. Deke just doesn't get it. Being treated special can alienate you for your peers especially when that special treatment is a result of who they are instead of what they have done. This was a mistake, I should have used another javelin cav to distract the archer that is coming, as the moment he walks into the corridor he can threaten Shanna away from the front lines. Hopefully we can lure another archer with this- ... it missed, but at least Wolt can...miss as well. Then things get even more complicated. Lilina comes charging down the corridor, release by one of the thieves searching for treasure, and enemy pursuit is right on her heels. She is rushing towards the protection of Jerrot, but once those enemies come she will get trapped in as Cath has blockaded the door, frozen with indecision. Have we blocked her way out, same as she blocks Chad and Jerrots (and soon Lilina)? This calls for a dangerous maneuver, for Jerrot can't hold off an army forever (at least without a healer), and I will not let Lilina die. ...She still wont move. Why wont she move? Seems I gave ground for nothing. Fortunately none of the other swordsmen are quite as fast as that first, which should make it easier to rebuild our defensive line. Lets jump slightly ahead with Deke killing the nearest archer, and setting the front of our defensive line and improves even more (I think I missed an earlier level up image as well, so sorry for lacking the details of the missed levelup screen) But a bit before that Noah finally finishes that duel he has been having with an archer and Wolt and Barth finish one of the swordsmen which lets Shanna borrow his steel lance to finish off the soldier, which lets her improve her accuracy further. Finally Roy finishes the other swordsmen, and the last enemy behind our new lines. Clarine comes to the conclusion dodging is the only way she will survive, and makes a concerted effort to get some practice in while healing the troops. With Allen taking the other key point in the line, and Lilina getting safely into the treasury, we have built a safe defensive line. Noah manages to kill the other archer that was distracted by Allen before, and it looks like we have outlasted the enemies that were sent after the Ostian loyalists. Unfortunately we haven't outlasted Cath's internal monologue. After some healing, Deke deals with the swordsman in front of him, and Allen wipes out the soldier. After Allen gets healed up, and some rescue dropping to protect the healers, we are ready for the enemies in the north, but Jerrot is about to face off against a wave of enemies himself, and he is still trapped in there with no means of healing. Allen easily removes the soldier, and Deke gets the critical kill on the swordsman. This makes it easy to kill that last archer, which let Wendy practice the speed and accuracy of her lance strikes. Jerrot on the other hand isn't holding up well, he wasn't fully healed when he got trapped, and is too busy blocking the doorway to dodge. He can survive this turn, but if Cath doesn't get out of the way...Oh st. Elmine, I don't think I have it in me to order the death of that child, but if I can't get her out of the way Lilina and Chad will die as well. Please move, by the grace of st. Elmine PLEASE MOVE ...please move I'm begging you... Oh praise all of the saints. Chad, Lilina, and Jerrot are saved. That was uncomfortably close. This may seem cruel, but that older, creepier thief was just staring at Cath that whole time, and I didn't feel comfortable letting him follow her. Now we prepare for the wave coming from the south east and Saul is strengthening both his magical techniques as well as defense while healing our army. With Lilina safely behind our lines, Roy finally has the chance to celebrate their survival in these harrowing times. I am glad Roy planned ahead, as the rest of our tomes...sorry I don't have the heart to say it. Now there is another complication some of the enemy are breaking off to attack us from both the south and east at the same time. Barth shall hold the south, as Jerrot holds the east. After some healing, Wolt takes down one of the archers while Jerrot and Allen setup the kill for Lilina (although I miss the image of it). After some rescue dropping, we have our defensive line. While holding the point, Barth becomes even more like a spiked wall. Bors starts to backup Barth by taking down one of the soldier giving Barth the time to chug a vulnerary. On the other front Jerrot gets some healing, and we chip a little, but avoid getting any enemy down to the point that they die enemy phase. Jerrot is getting used to taking, and dodging hits, and Treck is really bulking up. Now that we have all these injured enemies its time to take them down. ...That is some impressive growth, but back to the slaughter and with that Noah is gaining some deadly accuracy. While in the south Bors takes down another soldier and gets even faster. We have almost broken through, with that the east is won, but things are going slowly in the south. Mages within the throne room are threatening enough of that southern corridor, to keep me from pushing too much with our cavalry, but with the fresh armor slayer Ogier brought we press in a bit. That last armored knight uses his javelin to attack Noah from such a distance that anyone pressing in to kill him is threatened by a mage, so we pull back enough to make it safe to take him down, while Shanna draws one of those mages into a ranged battle with her. That ends the southern attacking force. The thieveing types have just finished with that treasure room as well. Shanna draws the mage further back (and gets healed) and even further, as the rest of the army starts sneaking past the corridor. but there is still another mage, and Wolt will draw him in and he learns the value of resistance. Now that the mage is out of the way, and heavily injured, Shanna lets Lilina finish him off ...or he runs off to chug a vulnerary. Meanwhile Wolt finishes his mage off as well. With him dealt with our army starts advancing towards the throne, while the cavalry holds a line to make sure nothing catches us by surprise. Lilina continues to grow by leaps and bounds while she duels this mage. If only Clarine could do the same (+1HP, +1 Skill, +1 Speed) I have delayed dealing with this armored knight thanks to his killer lance, but with Barth's arrival he can tank even a critical hit from him, so he draws him forward. I delay another turn with Bors in position to tank a hit, to setup the triangle attack kill (to ensure there is no unlucky crit deaths) and Lilina finally wins her duel. I nab the chest key off him before Bors and Barth dual triangle attack for the kill And Barth learns the value of strength. With nothing between us and the throne room we press in further (while the thieves sneak around to reclaim the rest of Ostia's treasures). With some cavalry to drop her to safety Lilina kills Legance's last defender ...after all that amazing growth, merely improving her magical arts seems underwhelming. Now all that is left is Legance. ...this may take a while. What hubris Legance has. After a bit of missing I start trying to hit him with anything (don't worry she can be rescue dropped out of there before Legance grows the common sense to switch weapons) Thankfully Legance's assassin gave up on his task the moment he left his sight. I don't know how I would have handled another death on my hands, and poor Roy would have been devastated. How dare he speak so about the late general Hector. Unfortunately she misses as well as does Noah Deke has the best chance, and after a lot of missing all around Deke seems to learn nothing from everyone else missing, but at least he learns something from this monsters death. Most would think its money that drives the convictions of a mercenary like me, but I know that isn't true. Is it vengeance against Bern that drives me...that simply doesn't ring true. A part of me wants to chalk it down to hubris, but that's not quite right either. There must be some conviction that drives me to lead these troops against seemingly imposs-... well I think that is part of it. I don't think this task is impossible. There is always a way to find that happy ending, where everyone makes it out, with all of our objectives completed. Is this some form of optimism, naivete, hope, or foolishness? I don't know, but striving towards that perfect victory is what drives my conviction to fight against all odds. No where near perfect, but at least nobody else had to die. "..." "Not to sound too morbid, but without some legendary weapon I doubt it would have helped even if we had arrived before the attack." "I doubt I could stay so strong..." "Sorry to have intruded on that touching moment, but I wanted to speak with you after the battle was done. After the deaths my tactics caused, I don't believe I am fit to be your tactician any longer." - "Eltosian, it was your tactics that let us take the impregnable castle of Ostia. Even when the enigmatic Denning warped an army through the castle walls Ostia did not fall, but thanks to you Ostia has become ours." "I could hav- No. A better tactician could have saved them. A better tactician would not have so meaninglessly thrown away those lives." - "A better tactician didn't save Ostia from rebellion, you did. Our little army has to rely on the people we have, not on better people that we don't. If you need some time to come to terms with the deaths of Hector, Rutger, Lance, Dorthy, or Lugh, take the time you need, but this army needs talent like yours. Do not abandon us in our time of need." "...sigh. I can't abandon our army, but the deaths from this battle haunt me. I need to find some way to... to...I don't what I can do. I'm not ready for another battle, not yet at least. I barely got us through the castle safely after the disaster in the city." - "Whenever you are ready to be my tactician again, just say the word." Like you becoming overwhelmed by your deaths? IDK, just a thought but maybe a bit too dramatic then. It seemed like a natural progression for the character (plus I did feel kinda bad about letting Dorthy and Lugh die for such silly reasons). As for how things develop, it will depend a bit on how things go, but seeing as I will have to face Arcadia (unless we have more players join/rejoin/leave) that is a distinct possibility. On 12/1/2019 at 12:47 PM, This boi uses Nino said: I never knew this convo existed lol. Technically that was two convos, the first 3 images from the one unique to Bors, and the last two his generic battle conversation. I was kinda surprised Bors could activate both, but it felt fitting to combine them together when he got one player phase, and the other enemy phase. Garlyle
Ooooh, nice - 2 nearly perfect level up for Lilina will definitely help. Thankfully very consistent in her Mag growth so far. (that growth in Def was the biggest surprise) These triangle attacks seems to be a cakewalk for you compared to me. Wendy is aiming to be the fastest Armor Knight in history, but some Strength and Defense growth would be also really helpful. Wait, did I just said Wendy and helpful in the same sentence? Oh crap, I did it twice now. I like how the reinforcements and the thieves were handled, those parts can get nasty very quickly on this map. But you managed to pull it off deathless, so that's a huge bonus point.
Hanes
That was a very good chapter @Eltosian Kadath, don't hit yourself too hard on Chapter 7, that chapter sucks. But you played Chapter 8 pretty well and seeing so many triangle attacks and so many good level ups and Bors becoming a beast (and Wolt) is so much fun. I'll keep watching from the sidelines for now, but good luck.
eclipse
Chapter 8x done. I'm exhausted, so I'm going to do Chapter 9 tomorrow morning. Otherwise, I'm going to screw this up big time. eclipse
WITH ONE AND A HALF HOURS TO SPARE! I apologize for the state of everyone's inventory. Please shuffle things off to Merlinus as you see fit. I went heavy on swords, since that's what my cavaliers will ride on for the upcoming maps (and lances weren't sold). The axes are for Deke. The tomes/staves should be self-explanatory. Edited January 1, 2020 by eclipse
Punished Dayni
Oh hey, it's my turn. Fair warning, this weekend is probably one of the worst for me to do it on, seeing as I've got a lot going on then. It's not impossible, but I'm warning you now. The file works with the rom I'm using (Most recent patch), and spoilers of my thoughts (Nothing more than route warnings, but I couldn't say nothing.) Spoiler Eclipse you son of a bitch. This is entirely because of route choice, I don't see anything else. But how dare you hurt best brigand. I assume this is for the hell of it but still. I know my comp for 10, tit's a matter of how badly that'll go that determines 11 and then on. Edited December 5, 2019 by Dayni
eclipse
It was because Spoiler there's already a Killer Bow in inventory, and Restore is one of those things where you either don't need it, or regret not having it. Route choice had no bearing on this, since IMO it's going to be a pain no matter what. Good luck, though~!
Garlyle
Oh, sounds like we are going to the Elphin route. I prefer the other route with Lalum and Echidna as well - it also has a Restore staff, but 2 chapters later in one of the houses. Hmmm, it's been a while since I used Bartre though... eclipse
We're doing this in two parts! Mostly because I'd break the forums otherwise. Dear diary, I heard about hot springs in the area. But instead of a nice, relaxing bath, I ran into that redhead again. Seems the last two people in charge of his army were bust, so could I pretty please stand in for a bit? A quick head count revealed a lot of unfamiliar faces, and two missing ones. Clarine told me about Rutger's fate, her usual haughty voice trembling. Deke quietly informed me of what happened to Lugh. Someone else mentioned something about the green-haired knight whose name I never got. Three missing faces, then. Whoever the hell killed off Lugh would pay for it. Slowly. Looks like my visit to the hot springs will have to wait until after my visit to hell. I don't suppose there's a shop down there. We're running low on supplies. These enemies were thoughtful enough to bring some stuff for us! Depicted: The number of times I have to tell the red knight not to screw up. He was rather testy when I didn't offer my condolences to his friend, and was downright furious when I told him that his friend wasn't worth remembering. If he keeps this up, he won't be worth remembering, either. With luck, these idiots will run straight into Bors, who in turn should teach them a lesson or two. Just. As. Planned. Why would a bandit have this? Well, mine now! Boss has been working out. No longer is he merely dead weight. Looks like he's trying to fill in for Rutger. He'll need a whole lot more of everything. The staff guy kept the mage girl company. Said that boss would be upset if she died. I'll take his word for it, even if he's slimy enough to leave a trail as he walks. Dodge girl failed to dodge. Enemy wasn't much of a threat, but still. Mage girl cleans up. Chad wants some action. "For Lugh", he stated simply. Halberds are bad for my horses, so Deke volunteers to clean them up. I SAID THEY'RE BAD FOR HORSES. What is it about horses that drops their rider's intelligence down to nil? Or maybe it takes a stupid person to go into battle on a horse? You deserve no better. "I'm already good enough," he said with a smirk. Pro tip: Don't hold up something metallic to the heavens when a girl with a Thunder tome is out for your blood. She doesn't have Lugh's speed, but Lilina more than makes up for it with raw power. Chad has moved on from archers to burly men. Lugh would've been proud of you. We continue to resupply. This cannot be a good idea. Told you so. Because there's no kill like overkill. This cannot be a good idea-- . . .he did it. The madman actually did it, and leveled up for his troubles. After the tales I've heard about him, he'll need that point of HP. Because sooner or later, I'm throwing his unsightly ass on the front lines. As disappointing as it is unsurprising. She finally stopped being useless. I gave her a little more room to grow, and this is the result. Normally, I'd be mad, but noodles-for-arms needs this. Chad's working double time. Keep it up, kid. The swordie closest to my guys has a Killing Edge. I remember what Clarine said about Rutger, and made my formation accordingly. Only one idiot cavalier would be in danger. But the enemies didn't move. Perhaps they'd move if I poked at them? Nope. Which means that I can use those hit-and-run tactics to get rid of the lot of them, with no danger to my troops. Hell yes. Deke did the honors. That's the last bit of free stuff from the enemy. Absolutely beautiful. (A/N: I'm gonna step out of character to define "beautiful". The only stats on average are Luck and Defense. Everything else is above it - and in the case of his Res, that's three above average with a 15% growth rate.) This won't do at all. I'm gonna need a little more oomph. That's more like it! Only my gross negligence will kill Deke at this point. And I will not be negligent. I appreciate the thought, Lilina, but this is a duel between men. Guess who the better Hero is? Pitiful last words from a pitiful foe. They took so long that I was able to find a hot spring and soak in it. Smack talk. I like her already. We made it out of there with zero casualties, and I'm rarin' to take a free ferry to the Western Isles. Until next time!
eclipse
Dear diary, The Western Isles has some conflict-or-other which doesn't interest me. I came here to fish, but instead, I'm taking out the trash. Scouts came back with reports of axes, arrows, and fog. Hate leaving the likes of Bors behind, but it can't be helped. Also heard reports of a mounted archer. Perhaps one of ours will have more info on this? This guy gained a level. Unlike Chad, he can take a punch to the face. Wolt's trying his best. This is just depressing. He got tankier, and that's all I care about. The disappointment continues. Did she get lost or something? This is a battleground! The guy she told you not to worry about versus you. The only thing Wolt has going for him are supports. I thought you wouldn't sink as low as that priest. I was wrong. Even if Sue will never see the front lines, she was able to talk Shin into joining. For that, her name is worth remembering. I love it when it's a guaranteed miss. Treck is determined to live, one way or another. I respect that. Maybe we should ship your incompetent ass off to Ilia. Treck's five levels lower, and damn near on par with you. Soon, you will be punched in the face. "If Treck will absorb the melee attacks, I'll do the same for magic!" Oh shit. OH SHIT. A certain redhead idiot on a horse charged off into the fog. "Let's hope that fool of a fighter goes after me instead," Marcus grumbled as he charged headlong into the fray. Old guy has some guts! "I'm not going to die until you remember my name, asshole." Everyone survived! Somehow! "He said that to you? Don't bother learning his name," Roy whispered. "I can't bear to lose both of them." Yes, sir. Shin shows my guys how not to be mediocre. How to gain four stats in a level and not impress me: The Guide The only good thing about this is the fact that you're alive. "Rutger, huh? Pity that I can't challenge him." With a little bit more bulk, Fir will fill his shoes and then some. "Can't let my student surpass me," Noah said with a sigh. To a worthy swordsman. One day. "The best defense is a dead enemy. But I suppose if being able to take a hit makes you feel better, I can." You go girl. FOR THE LAST TIME STOP HITTING ON THE STAFF CHICK. Socializing can wait until all the enemies are dead. "Everyone else is doin' fine. Time for a nap." Damn straight we did. These things are always handy. Rarely useful, but when they're needed, they're NEEDED. Deke is content with ripping out the enemy's throat with his bare hands instead of sullying his blade. I'm not going to complain about Speed. Or Res. Wait, RES?! Lilina is trying her best! Marcus gets the exact same level as his subordinate. Unlike his subordinate, this one's good on him. SIimeball here tries to copy Lilina. Which is gross. I can crit like crazy, too. But mine are fatal! Wolt finally pulls some competence out of his ass. Wouldn't YOU like to know? . . .what the. . . Deke's ready to tank mages. (A/N: He's officially broken his Res average. This Deke is amazing.) The turn count's so damn high because I had to buy a lot of things, and I couldn't bring along that dead weight known as Merlinus. Sue was kind enough to lend her services as a pack mule. Pity the armory only sold swords and axes. Vendor had some useful magic, and Lilina's grateful for the Fire tomes. . . .that's it, I've had my quota of stupidity, I'm out. Good luck on the next bit.
