Since I'm dealing with a foot injury (in other words, makes it harder to concentrate), I'll do that. Meanwhile, I need to think long and hard about this chapter's strategy. Eltosian Kadath
Spoiler Against my better judgement, Lord Roy has talked me into leading our forces in taking the capitol of Etruria. So be it, I can take that capitol as well as all the others, but there is no reason to be as gentle with it as I was with the others. The defenders are sure to be too competent for the sort of tactics that took Jutes, and with how far away from Bern, and how little aid those serpents would bother providing there is no reason to make it as hard as Ostia on the troops. ...Kidnapping children is just up the ally of the scum of Etruria. Lets deal with this quickly, I've got a capitol to take.. I am a little reluctant to include Elphin in the search party, but his talents at refreshing are a bit too useful, plus some of his Etrurian "contacts" let leak that one of the Etrurian generals might be bribed. Hopefully whatever noble blood he has (or claims, as there haven't been kings in the Western Isles in over a century) doesn't come back to bite us. Our scouts are trying to get us going in the right direction, but Roy's insistence on them was redundant. I am betting inside of 10 minutes I can confirm that the Etrurians have kidnapped her by listening to the outpost up ahead. Welp I lose that bet by a few minutes, but Etrurian to the core. ...have I judged them too harshly? A dragonstone? What is that? Ah that explains it, some of them are Bernese and at least pretend to have honor. Do dragonstones let them hide their true form? We better hurry then, I should inform Roy and get this search party movi-... Ok the enemy troop movements to the north may be a bit more pressing. Etrurian cavalry set from the capitol. Their commander must be the general Elphin thought he could bribe. There is nothing more pressing for them, but the spineless curs will fail if they try. Elphin must be right, those are the kind of petty Etrurian politics that make the lot of them so honorless. Their black armor does this lot justice, as it makes them as black as the figurative pot while they call this Roartz a traitorous kettle. Here they are doing said traitorous snake's bidding, and soon will betray what is left of their honor for petty cash. Must have been another "loyal" Etrurian that did this Myrddin in. How Etrurian, putting up a loyal facade with treachery in their hearts. Only an Etrurian would find some ...How surprisingly prescient and defeatist. Perhaps this Douglas sees as I do that Etruria has festered so thoroughly that it couldn't and shouldn't protect itself. If they could keep themselves from tearing every ally they have apart perhaps they could survive this. 5 May Etruria prosper in the same way they made the Western Isles prosper. ...Could this General Douglas be Elphin's "contact" in Etruria? So be it, let's go through with this farce until this fool sees the glint of gems. I better report to Roy "That matches my own investigation as well" "No, we can't leave that poor girl in the hands of these Etr- the enemies, no matter how much time is lost." "I fear it might be too late for such precautions. What is this dragonstone, and how disastrous would its discovery be?" "My information can confirm that, although they are reportedly different from the dragonstone of Fae" "Additional Etrurian forces are pressing in from the road ahead as well" "I shall make the greatest haste I can. We can't afford to be bogged down here with the Etrurian capitol ahead of us." Now lets save Speaking of which, Shin takes out the nearest one, and Deke gets dropped into range of the next nearest. Milady moves in to secure control of the skies While Elphin gets just into range to negotiate the Etrurian betrayal. He is safe for now, but if things go south with negotiations Milady is the closest whom can rescue him, and he will need a running start for her to get there in time... Milady has now removed the only enemy flier close enough to be threatening, and her skills are clear for all to see. With that done, hopefully Elphin can negotiate a good deal. That can't be, Elphin is... is.. ...That son of ...son of... son of an ETRURIAN! Elphin has been the Etrurian heir in disguise; that snake has been using us this whole time ! By st. Elm- no, no I oughtn't swear vengeance to her. But mark my words, I will see Aquleia burn before I let that monster use my army for his petty Etrurian politics. We will not leave a castle, city, or throne behind for him to claim with our aid. Naive Perceval, what but an Etrurian could even try to kill the Etrurian prince. Deceit is so ingrained in the blood of Etrurians that general Douglas lied directly to Perceval's face during that whole conversation before. Disgusting. What other nation would have look-alike corpses at hand for such a stunt. Or did the general just kill some peasants to supply them. He almost sounds hurt. You would think Etrurians would be used to their own constant acts of betrayal. ...You wont use us in the same way you Etrurian scum! Did you not know your nobles were Etrurian Elp- no Myrddin I shouldn't have let his suspicious title pass. I thought he was setting himself up to be a new King in the West, not King of the serpents. To late for that monster. No I shouldn't let on until Aquleia burns. Lets get this doubly treacherous Perceval to help out for now. Back to the battle, Bartre and Fir take down that mercenary, and by some form of magic she actually learned something from her father despite being a teenager. Noah chiped the archer between this father daughter combo attack. For some reason he ran off the instance Bartre started attacking that swordsman. Shin makes good use of his bravebow and destroys a Valkyrie, while Deke setup the kill for Shanna on its companion. We can't quite reach that archer with anyone else, so we just advance with our troops, and Perceval starts carrying his prince back to the battle Some more enemy cavalry have advanced, so first Lilina deals with the one with a horseslayer. Then Bartre and Igrene chip the others from range Next Shin finishes one while drawing the enemy Sniper ahead into an enemy phase death. To make sure that last cav dies, without leaving anyone else in enemy bow range, I rescue drop Lilina back, so Milady can finish it off with a javelin. Fir goes a bit out of her way to kill the injured archer and after a bit closer look I move Deke into longbow range just to get him closer to where the enemies will advance. This fellow seems curiously talkative for a bandit ...well I just got called out by a bandit. Huh, he seems like cut from a better clothe than out Etrurian enemies. Our Etrurian allies as well. ...Alright, the rest of his band has to die, although there might be some way to talk sense into that leader. Shin dealt with that nicely. Now lets see what this Perceval can do ...Etrurian incompetence at its finest. Well hopefully Shin can show him how not to miss Next Milady takes out one longbow, while Deke takes out the other Well with some help from Igrene Bartre will have to clean up Perceval's embarrassing failure for him. Unfortunately I can't quite wipe out the last of them, so Noah heals up and setsup a defensive position. I make a bit of a mistake here, as Noah should have traded Shin over to a sword or Lilina when he healed him... that actually complicates things a bit, so Roy rescues Lilina, so Shanna can fix this whole kerfuffle Igrene and Noah take the hits, xo next Lilina sets up the kill for ...eh I guess the miss isn't that surprising, and we have plenty of people to fix it, so Bartre chips him even more so Noah can miss as well. Third time is the charm ...This is not the time to be flexing on Perceval with your skill Shanna (+1 Skill) As for the other one, Deke, and Milady chip him down ...or Igrene needs to compensate for a Milady miss, so that Fir can kill That leaves Shin to deal with the advancing bandits. Now how to deal with Garr- ...I guess she has a thing for bandits It is kinda rude of Lilina to ignore his question, making him ask twice ...the nobility are so arrogant, Garret not only asked first, but demanding this before introductions. ... ...my fault... I am getting some deja vu from Roy's conversation with Cath here. I guess he has already heard this conversation too. Well he really is cutting to the chase, just like with Cath she just needs to show him that she really means to set things right. Oh no, Lilina wasn't listening to that Roy and Cath exchange was she... ...at least there are plenty of people in range to rescue her to safety, despite herself. Lets try and get Shin a clear shot, take him out before he ca- ...is that going to work? That could have gone very badly, but she ended up figuring it out in the end. Heh, they finally introduced eachother. Now lets kill the last of Garret's companions. Shin can chip for the Fir kill As for Garret, I think I will put him on village visiting duty 😛 ...Woah that is a valuable thing to just have lying around. Having this around will make it easier to justify using the legendary weapons. We need to keep pressing on, we have spent long enough on this detour. More cavalry are moving in to intercept us, so I open with Deke crippling one to let Noah kill, which makes room for Shin to repeat his performance in killing that dangerous Valkerie. Next Bartre will chip the next one, and pass his Halberd off to Deke, so after a dance he can kill the next one (too bad he isn't quite strong enough to do it in one swing). Next Perceval can prove himself to be as incompetent as the enemy Etrurians with another miss (assuming it wasn't intentional...) Don't know why I bothered to try saving him from even more incompetence Milady deals with the other, and after Perceval's failure Igrene has to pull his prince to safety. Now to clear the way to this outposts defenders. Lilina vaporizes one Wyvern. As for the other Bartre and Fir continue their father daughter combo Has Fir been hanging out with Deke? That just leaves the cavalry that so thoroughly embarrassed Perceval. ...he couldn't have even hit once could he? Milady was a bit too distracted by Lilina's performance to kill with the crit. That leaves this kill for Roy. We need to keep moving, this detour has taken up enough of our army's time. Fortunately the enemy forces keep moving in to let us deal with them faster. Deke will open by setting up the Milady kill on the sniper. For the first time ever Percevel manages to hit with everything. I shouldn't be relying on him, but that other archer had to go, and even one hit would have helped. Next Shin chips one of the mercs for the Noah miss. Even more deja vu. We are in the home stretch. ...sigh, I guess it could have been worse. Lilina tries to setup the kill for Noah to miss again... Well I will figure out who will kill him soon, we need to hurry this up so Shanna carries Roy closer to the gate, and Deke setup another kill for Milady. I guess Igrene can take that last kill. Now I can have Shin ...Lets not risk a crit until I have to. sigh, we are so close, hopefully we can finish this off before these reinforcements bog us down. Deke has a great chance to end this now We are here to rescue the girl you brute, now die. ...We aren't as monsterous as you Etrurians, nor as calculatingly cynical as the Bernese, we simply want to save her. Garret reached that other village just in time, but their warning comes a bit late Hopefully we can free this priest as well... Well this is a bit irritating Roy is not quite close enough to seize, but he should be safe surrounded by our best troops, and they can't block his way to the gates either (unless they fly) Lets cover these forts just in case...that seemed to work as those reinforcements never showed That was fairly quickly, now lets rescue that child. "Thank St. Elmine she is safe." "Did you really have to drive this kid to tears?" "Its not a trivial reason for everyone Merlinus. A lot of Illians join-, well at least I became a mercenary to see the outside world. Not everyone has the freedom to travel like nobles and merchants do." "Roy, I think we have enough troops to protect her..." "Merlinus, she can be easily protected by our forces, its not like she has to survive the front lines, and Igrene should already be used to babysitting..." "Bah, don't listen to that old worrywart, there is plenty to celebrate." I think its best to prepare for the battle ahead. I doubt Roy would approve of the next battle plan, and I have all the Etrurian distracted Perceval for instance is organizing the cowardly troops that were under his command (and are conveniently being left behind, so they can not interfere in the sack of Aquleia). We will need to come with fire and axe at the ready, and I will have to chose the next deployment carefully. ... Ah that is distracting, but knowing where and what that snake is doing is still valuable knowledge. Perhaps its a good thing Fae joined us, if she has anywhere near the destructive power the Bernese dragon have... ...should I be putting that poor child in danger like this. She is a dragon, she can probably take care of herself. Or if she can't we need to know that as soon as possible. I should try and find a discrete way of testing her draconic powers against stone. I should look over whatever records I can find has on Aquleia's architecture, as I need identify the structural supports that need to fall to take out that castle permanently. Perhaps I can find an expert on the subject. I suppose we would have to prepare something with magic so no one gets trapped or crushed beneath the castle stones. I wonder if I can tal- *thwack* Sorry for getting it out a little late in the day.
eclipse
No I haven't forgotten. Still on Chapter 16x. I'll edit the save into this post once I'm done (just hit the turn limit I was waiting for). EDIT: I KNOW it's supposed to be a training chapter, but 16x has way the hell too many Boltings to bring the likes of Raigh along. There most certainly is, we got down to low enough players to slow down to two week cycles instead of one week cycles (meaning 2 week to play 2 chapter, then 2 week for the write-up with the next player play time being the same as your writing time, instead of only 1 week to play the two chapter, and 1 week to write etc.). If you want the next player slot, at the current schedule rate your playtime would start 3/18. If you want to try getting us back onto one week cycles once your playtime starts I would be fine with it (only because I finished my chapters already and would effectively have two weeks to work on writing I was expecting two weeks for anyway). Speaking of which it is a week early, but Fire Emblem - The Binding Blade.sav I finished chapter 17 early, and I hit a point where I didn't want to put off the terrifying chapter 18 any longer, and Spoiler RIP the turn count. The numbers against Monke were such that I just couldn't find it in me to risk the dancer and healers that would have been necessary to take him down quickly (and even with the boots Roy would only seize that turn if the gate has no move penalty), so I tried triggering them in a way for my army to spawn block the lot of them for an unreasonable number of end turns. Alastor15243
Alright, tentatively put me on the roster. Something might come up, but this could be fun. Only issue is I haven't exactly been religiously reading this. I probably should read up on it before playing. Or maybe I should stay as ignorant as possible to make my reactions to what I'm stuck with more amusing and genuine?
Punished Dayni
Guess I'll be honest. Every time I tried to upload a post, my laptop ended up crashing before I could post it. It drained me just trying to get the images set up, never mind trying to figure out how I was handling it and watching as I'd make progress but lose everything. Also I kind of tried to take my work more seriously (the contract ended last month but that's a business thing). I might as well write the guy's ending. The forgotten tactician got in contact with Roy as he reached a small village in Fibernia and offered his services to help the Western Isles. He had the bright idea of moving Lot and Lilina over the wall right above them and gets everyone else moving around. This actually works out fine as Klein joins them with no issue and the villages are being protected. There's a slight struggle with Gonzales's end but it's fine as Deke and half the cavalry. Then Tate shows up. First they head for the man forces moving around the outside towards Zinque, but then she ruins everything by flying in the opposite direction towards the other party. As there's only one healer on the map and west party has low HP she must have been smelling blood and I can't get Klein over before she kills Lot and Gonzales and she is killed before it gets worse. They saved the village and Klein's men, but the sacrifice was great. After that they moved on towards Jutes, stopping near a village. A small party led by Dieck moved around the north to save Bartre while the rest move south. Treck got killed for exact damage by several things on the way down, but the real hell was Jerrot being killed for exact damage by a mercenary right at the end of the map. The blood soaked trail of the forgotten tactician ends there. We can only assume he was executed for getting 5 units killed. Whether it was some nefarious scheme, a twisted fate or sheer incompetence we may never know the full answer to. Considering I held us up so badly and got 5 units killed, I think it for the best that despite being in lockdown I won't put myself forward. Can relate, the complications with my last laptop dying (not to mention the captcha glitch that was plaguing most of the screenshot LPs at the), forcing me to be more meticulous with maintaining backups of partially complete work (to mitigate the damage of crashes, freezes, and failed upload) and with the laptop's complete death taking out a nearly complete update to my Awakening LP (and loosing the images from the chapter after) is a big part of why that LP has been put on hold for a while. It is downright disheartening to have technical difficulties ruin your hard work. 11 hours ago, Dayni said: Considering I held us up so badly and got 5 units killed, I think it for the best that despite being in lockdown I won't put myself forward. eclipse
Due to the sheer length of this, I'm breaking up Chapter 16 into two parts, with Chapter 16x being its own thing. Chapter 16, part 1 Dear diary, I'm good at castle invasions or something, so why not barge into Etruria's finest? Curse me and my sentimental heart. That damn kid is gonna get everyone killed, including me. Spoiler This guy claims to be one of Etruria's generals. After he beat that idiot redhead and Noah (with those two teamed up, no less), I figured he might be on to something. Deep coffers can afford good help. They have over double our forces. First things first, Shin takes out the trash. He doesn't appreciate being a janitor, though. Feels that he should be paid better. Can't say that he's wrong about that. Who's the traitor here, huh? Talk about leading by example. We're doomed. I think he heard me. You've been slacking long enough, time to get to work. Besides taking blows to the face better, he can now use magic to hurt enemies. Oh, so that's how Etruria can afford their high-quality mercenaries. "Lead by example? I can try!" And try he did. I'm not sure why Roy insisted that we bring this guy along. He doesn't have a weapon, his stats suck, and he can't even see where he's going. Don't mind me, just making sure that I get paid for this nonsense. I don't like the idea of having a kid take the blows for the army, but I can't deny that it's a damn good one. "I-I'm not going to die. Not until the war is over!" He's determined to be a one-man army. Apparently not the first time someone from the Kutolah has pulled this nonsense. Or so the stories go. Those cowards will pay for this. But damn was that close. Wander in the halls of THIS castle, and you're liable to be robbed and murdered. I won't repeat what this guy shouted to the bishop as he filled him with arrows. But it was damn impressive. His parents would be proud of him! Miledy thinks that this is all she'll need against the current lot of enemies. If this kid can ORKO your troops, perhaps she's right. "Has anyone told you that you're an asshole?" Huh, he's got spunk. What in the HELL?! Why is this thing so damn durable? Time to ruin someone's day. He isn't as strong as Shin, but he'll still get the job done. Somehow. What is this, a competition between the mages to see which one can get the two more boring stats? I'll give this enemy one thing - he IS persistent. Picked off his troops, and he insists on chasing us further.
eclipse
Chapter 16, part 2 Spoiler "We're gonna storm the throne room soon? Better get up to speed." Why did we allow this loser to tag along again? STAY TOGETHER! They're stupidly tanky and have a respectable crit rate to boot. But they're slower than the idiot redhead, and can't attack from a distance. In other words, they're mage bait. Or target practice for a guy on a not-horse with a bow. I don't kill my enemies. I thoroughly sap their will to live. . .and then kill them. Someone forgot to tell him that his job is to steal things, not punch people in the face. If you're going to take up space, at least slow this guy down, will ya? Maybe you can annoy him with your crappy music. After thoroughly kicking his ass in an off-screen fist fight, Miledy dragged her younger brother with us. So he can apologize to the princess for such a grave insult. Dumb kid has a long way to go before he's up to her speed. Apparently this staff has the ability to transmit the wielder's voice to its target. So Our Lecherous Bishop started reciting Elimine scripture. Which caused his victim to fall asleep. All talk, indeed. Shoring up your weaknesses, I see. Giving myself a bonus on top of my normal pay. Your brother might not be completely mortified that you exist. Oh wait, he's dead. This looks shiny and useful. I think it goes well with Miledy's hair. Do you feel lucky, punk? Let's see. Your underlings were slaughtered by children, and you were robbed blind by one. Perhaps you should try being "left" next time. "I'll take care of cleaning up Etruria's mess." I'm pretty sure he's attacking you head-on. He must not have had much of a life, then. Perhaps you should try bar-hopping. Father a bastard kid or five. At the sound of this, both men hesitated. "Deal," the said simultaneously. It was called off after the enemy general was kicked out of the third straight tavern. Perceval, meanwhile, merely had a few beers. While the adults were off doing. . .not-adult things, Raigh decided to clean up the dragon infestation by himself. "I nearly brained myself on a piece of falling debris. You didn't notice?" Time to loot the royal treasury. This guy just won't give up! Let's put an end to this nonsense.
eclipse
Chapter 16x Dear diary, So after the nonsense that was the castle, we have to go up some tower. With lightning bolts raining down on us or something. Spoiler Who IS this chump? So that's why Roy told me not to off this guy. Kinda reminds me of Miledy's younger brother, but not as mobile. Reports mentioned some reinforcements that were on standby. So if I could hold out long enough, they'd go away. Since the tower guards had no interest in moving, we all had a nice chat. Then the reinforcements left. OW. When all three of Etruria's generals work together, it's a thing of beauty. Especially when it's "insults specific to the guardians of this tower". She has no time for you. I kept her in back in CASE we needed negotiations during the castle invasion, but she still hasn't forgiven me for that. Roy has a bright idea. "I just need to weather these idiots, right? Can do!" This wasn't a competition, and Shin knew it. So he turned his arrows towards someone who was an actual threat. When I asked him about this, he merely shrugged. She wasn't happy about all the siege magic, or the arrows. "I don't need that bauble from Narcian, because these guys aren't a threat." This one didn't even want to try. "This is boring. Can we hurry it up already?" The supposed last words of this enemy were "I can't beat that kind of beard!" Raise your hand if you were surprised by the appearance of enemy Longbow snipers. Dealing with magic enemies? THIS is how to do it! In some weird faraway land, magic beats bows. Here, bows beat magic. "I could use a good back rub!" our obnoxious bishop shouted to the guy at the top of the tower. They'd have to come down to meet us eventually. And then we would mete out justice. I think that's the worst of them! "Now that's the last of them!" I didn't know "having a smart mouth" was a prerequisite for serving St. Elimine. Or maybe I did. All he can do is fume. Perceval falls under the influence of Berserk, Cecilia slaps him until it wears off. Repeat. There, no more remote hell for you. Just a 1-2 range spell and a stupid amount of avoid. Because we want this to be a fair fight and all. She needs to slap Perceval more often. Hey, no critical, but that's exactly enough for a 2RKO. "Now he needs three hits." Perceval relieved himself off of the top of the tower. The boss thought it was so funny that he laughed - straight off the tower. "No more drinking before battles." 48 turns. Not bad. The first 21 didn't count! I heard something about "Sacae". No thanks. If they're anything like Shin, I'm going to have a headache. Alastor15243
@Eltosian Kadath Hey, just wanna make sure you saw my question: do you need me to read up on the whole documentation so far, or would it be okay to roleplay someone just dropped into this situation without knowing much of the history behind anything that happened? I was going leave that up to you if you wanted to read through the whole thing, or play and roleplay as someone thrust into this position without any prior knowledge. Sorry I probably should have made that more explicit earlier.
