Who should I use for my Hector Hard Mode Play-through?

I will be using and promoting all the Lords.

The "who" isn't as important as the "what".  And "what", in this case, involves a couple of staffbots, and at least two units that can handle enemy phase.

But more importantly, less talking, more experimenting.  You're not going to be arrested because you made a mistake in HHM.

Well i guess I'll jut experiment with my units and Arena Grind.

If you care about the ranking system, I've found that on the Hard Modes you have to use pretty much everyone to get 5-star Experience, because the penalty to Experience for killing enemies of lower level than you is much more severe in Hard Mode than in Normal Mode.

If not, then nevermind.

Don't use Bartre and Dorcas. Use multiple cavs unless some of them get RNG screwed (My Kent got absolutely screwed over so I replaced him with Lowen). Use Marcus as a side Axe user.

If this is your first run through HHM, you shouldn't worry about ranks. Just have fun playing. That said, just a little heads-up:

Play Lyn mode for a bit of more EXP. Especially Erk and Lucius get more valuable this way.

Early game Dorcas and Marcus will carry your team.

Dorcas has decent base SPD, with maybe some EXP from LM. Just see if he gets SPD blessed, if not, bench him later. His early growths should tell you wheter or not to promote him. The best answer most of the time is not. You'll tell when his usefulness is gone, when he starts getting doubled all of the time and can't take to many hits.

Marcus stays strong until mid-game. Just don't overdo it, or he will eat all your EXP. You will start to appreciate Marcus in chapters 13 > 16. He can secure some choke points for better control. Falls off around chapter 20-ish. Likely when everyone starts to promote, or gained alot of levels.

Lowen and Oswin are decent early one, but will likely be replaced by the time you get both Sain and Kent. Florina can also be a Godsend with early EXP, likely to fragile without. But still fast.

Late-game you get some pre-promotes who can be decent like Pent(really good), Geitz, Harken and Vaida. Likely will be the filler units for your party if some units get RNG screwed.

Personally(PEMN) I like Canas, but he likely gets outclassed by Erk and Lucius. Canas can wield Luna, which is nice in some situations. Don't expect miracles though.

Lords are nice, but promote too late. Therefor will be weaker then most units. Sitting at level 20 for too long isn't helping anyone. You should promote Eliwood first I think. More mobility above weak bows for me.

Some team lay-out:

1. Hector

2. Marcus > filler
3. Dorcas > Raven
4. Lowen > Sain / Kent (or both)

5. Guy (get HHM, which turn into base STR of 9/10). > Harken, if doesn't keep up.
6. Erk > Pent (or keep both)
7. Florina >= Fiora (don't buy Farina)
8. Raven

9. Ninian
10. Serra / Priscilla(or both).

 

Rest will be fillers, mostly pre-promotes like Geitz, Harken, Louise etc. etc.
