DLC Wave 4 revealed at the end of the Smash Direct

Mage Knight/Valkyrie/whatever being girls only is an outrage. Forcing dudes like Hubert and Linhardt to be stuck with 4 movement until Lv.30 is just not okay. I'm actually mad about this.

Like, I know that Male has some exclusive Lv.20 classes but the Dark Mage line and Hero both suck ass. Girls now have 4 exclusive classes that are all very strong and offer a lot of utility, whereas guys only have War Master to their name.

On that note, Dark Flier better not bring Galeforce back, so help me Sothis...

Yeah this is obnoxious. If they must've gender-locked the DLC classes, I would've preferred one male-exclusive and one female-exclusive. Like, keep either Dark Flier or Valkyrie (and get rid of the other) female-exclusive, keep Trickster and War Monk gender-neutral, and add a male-exclusive class inspired by Awakening's Dread Fighter (Infantry Axe- and Reason-specialist). Only challenge is, then they'd have to redesign or reassign the characters somewhat.

Exactly. This is why I'm saying, they should do away with manually chosen classes altogether, and rather have the classes arise dynamically, and the mounts, armor, etc. be determined basically by giving them items. Let their skill level determine how good they are in them, and their skills and stats in conjunction with their level determine what class they are. Then we wouldn't have to deal with this male only/female only nonsense.

Because it makes no sense. If I train some male up in magic and flying, and they are really good at it, why couldn't they be a Dark Flier? What's the difference? If they want to just name it differently for the sake of enforcing some gender roles, than find go ahead, have two classes that literally are the same thing. But to have no class whatsoever just because you're male/female? It doesn't make sense.

Does anyone think there'll be more DLC classes? I don't think so, but Yuri being the only leader without special classes is kinda sad.

We simply don't know, historically each mainline Fire Emblem gets two waves of DLC, plus all the recently publicity from TGA and Smash would be logical to push on.

On the other hand, IniSys and Koei is totally quiet about their future plan following this wave....

Also it's really strange to me that Heroes weren't doing more Three Houses characters, since the first wave we only got a holiday Sothis.

One system I conceived of, well before Three Houses, is have every level 1 unit start out as Infantry, with a single weapon type, and maybe 1 personal skill. Then every number of levels (say, 5), they'd have the choice to unlock:

1) A higher weapon rank (C-S, think Genealogy's system),

2) A new weapon type (C-rank),

3) +1 movement,

4) A new movement type (Cavalry/Flier/Armor), or

5) A new skill (Lockpick, Crit+15, Vantage, etc.).

I see this as a way to institute "mini-promotions" outside of a class system, with units being very customizable.

The big struggle with a class-free system, though, is enemy types. Either enemies still have classes, or they all have to be designed individually, making it hard for the player to know what to expect.

I think Nintendo/IS didn't expect the game to be so popular. Smash DLC characters are a way to advertise the games and Three Houses definitely didn't need one so they probably thought before release it would flop.

No Nintendo game on Switch other than Smash Ultimate got a second wave of DLC(as in new set of content besides what was already confirmed before)...so sadly it wont happen if it did I only see new classes being added.

I could see another wave. Three Houses was an unexpected success, and I have a feeling this DLC sold well. I don’t expect any more, but I wouldn’t be surprised. It makes sense from a business perspective.

I’m glad there are more areas to be explored being added. It will make future play throughs a bit different.

It depends other bigger games were a success as well yet some didn't even get DLC(ie Super Mario Odyssey) or got more then what was confirmed. They likely moved on to their next project/s. More free Updates are possible but Wave 4's are probably it.

Disappointed the the mage cavalry class was Valkyrie instead of Mage Knight. How this ruined my plans for characters like Hubert, Linhardt, Lorenz, and Sylvain. How annoying. I was planning on promoting them into that class. At least Edelgard, Lysithea, Marianne, Hapi, Coco, Annette, and Dorothea will get some mileage out of Valkyrie. Maybe Hilda too if I decide to be really creative.

I like Dark Fliers, but I wish it was Malig Knight instead as well.

After the recent CYL results, something tells me this year will be dominated by Three Houses characters. I think the only reason we didn't get too many last year is because they weren't sure who would be popular or not.

We're sharing our theories on what the big plot twist will be? Well I've had a certain theory of who the final boss of the dlc side story would be ever since I learned that  would take place somewhere beneath Garreg Mach and that it was represented with a picture of a giant wolf. But it got strengthened a lot when we got that screenshot of Alphard saying that the named the Ashen Wolves after "the beast that protects the Blue Sea Star" (the Blue Sea Star being the star that the Goddess is said to have come from).

Spoiler

Did you know that Sothis has a dog/canine theme going on? Her special attack in Heroes is called Sirius, and there's a track in the OST called "Gazing at Sirius" that's used for Rhea reminiscing about her mother. The Blue Sea Star is basically Fodlan's name for the Sirius star. Sirius is also known as "the Dog Star" and is part of the Canis Major or "Great Dog" constellation. The name "Ashen Wolf" also ties into Byleth's nickname "Ashen Demon". I believe that the Ashen Wolf that Alphard speaks of is actually the true form of Sothis, similar to how the Immaculate One is actually Seiros, but the church hid this by claiming them as separate beings. I think the Ashen Wolf's corpse is still lying somewhere underneath Garreg Mach after being killed by Nemesis, and that someone (probably Alphard) will try to resurrect her.  But since Sothis' mind is inside Byleth the result would likely just be a mindless zombie that you'd have to put down. This could also be tied into how TWSitD managed to resurrct Nemesis on VW (they do share the same Crest after all).

If Cindered Shadows wants to tie into the main game without directly affecting the plot (since it was originally advertised as "additional story content"), I'm wondering if they'll reveal that Patricia somehow ended up in Abyss after the Tragedy of Duscur. If they do go that way, they'll have to keep Dimitri from finding out about it since he thinks she's dead. Maybe they'll include a mysterious character who is only implied to be Patricia.

Alm's mother only shows up in a drama CD, so introducing parents outside a main game isn't unprecedented.

Wait, what!? Does she appear in the present or in a flashback?

The present, it apparently takes place during Act 4 in a Rigelian forest (though I'm not familiar with the drama CD's plot). The character in question isn't explicitly identified as Alm's mother, but she looks like him, is familiar with his name, and holds high status within Rigel.

Speaking of parents, I wonder how the families of the Ashen Wolves will fit into Fódlan. Constance is from House Nuvelle and Balthus is from Leicester, but we don't know where Yuri and Hapi are from. I have a sort of joke theory that Yuri is Thales's estranged son, but I don't expect that to be true.

Hapi has supports with Dimitri, so maybe Faerghus. It’s also worth noting that she dark skinned, and dark skinned people are treated as foreigners in Fódlan. Claude, Dedue, and Cyril fit that schema. Maybe Hapi is a survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur?

Spoiler

Maybe she only looked like someone from Duscur. She may be a part of the group responsible for the tragedy, those who slither in the dark. She only looks Duscurian because she's in a disguise. Not necessarily a doppelganger like the villains but similar enough to blend in.

That... makes no sense. Having dark skin, in Fódlan, is the opposite of blending in. Plus, as you pointed out, the Duscur people were blamed for the Tragedy. If "Hapi" is a disguise being used by someone truly behind the Tragedy, in order to escape notice and/or blame, then why in Sothis' name would they disguise themselves as someone presumed responsible for said Tragedy?

Maybe she's from Morfis. They're supposed to be good at magic, right? I was really hoping the new DLC would give us an Albinean and a... Morfisian? But that seems unlikely.

Good News: This Dark Flier has no Galeforce. But has a new ability which it gains +3 to all stats when hit by magic.

Very interesting. Presumably being a Pegasus it’ll have high res meaning it can tank that magic hit without much issue. Then again, that high res will probably discourage enemies from attacking it and the ability doesn’t trigger on player phase.

Also, you have to get hit for the ability to trigger, so it won’t be very useful if you build your Dark Flier as a dodgetank. I wonder how useful it’ll be in practice - it seems like a skill that would’ve been more useful on an armoured unit (or perhaps a physical variation of the skill) rather than a flier.

Though there's also Catherine who's unusually tanned despite coming from the supposedly icy Faerghus.

There's always the mastery skill though, assuming this is just a class skill. This one seems extremely niche, in any case. You won't want to expose your magic ponies much chances are, and siege mages will likely not target them primarily. The bonus isn't good enough to waste a turn setting it up either.
