If this is actually a little known fact, I'll be depressed. (I guess you could say I can't "Handel" it.)

Edward Elgar wrote the enigma variations. Each of the variations was inspired by one of his friends. (I feel bad for one of his friends, because Elgar named the movement based off of him "Nimrod.")
