Puff the Magic Dragon and G-man, the founder and acting chairman of the Obviously Wicked Warlocks (OWW) Union, decide they don't like their neighbor with the tiara because he's just too pretty. They evict prince Mars Bar and steal his form-fitting skinny leather pants (it's not a phase, mom).

Mars Bar finds not-Excalibur and uses it to file a grievance. G-man objects and is overruled. The newly crowned Marthy McFly marries a woman who is way out of everyone's league, and they live happily ever after ... for exactly 5 minutes until Puff Puff decides that being dead is too mainstream and comes back for the sequel.

Marthy McFly then goes back to the future, except he's actually a she and she then goes back to the past. It turns out that motherfucking Cthulu is coming back and needs a right proper assbeating. One strategic dating simulator later and the world is saved.

Just watch the OVA, that's all you need to know (plus it'll be the best 40 minutes of Fire Emblem content you'll ever see)

Spoiler

Prologue and Chapter 1: Marth is forced to flee to Talys isle after the revived Dohlr Empire invades his homeland of Altea. Marth's father Cornelius is eaten by a dragon during this part, and he is also forced to leave his younger sister behind as he flees. Some time later, having grown stronger and whatnot, Marth embarks on a quest to retake his kingdom. Just as he is about to do so, pirates attack Talys. Marth fends them off and the ventures to the mainland.

Chapter 2: Marth lands at the harbor region of Galder, where is rendezvous with mercenaries hired to aid him by the king of Talys. They are assaulted by local pirates and defeat them.

Chapter 3: Marth ventures further into the mainland, where he runs into another group of bandits. The narrative tropes of Fire Emblem are long standing if nothing else. A cleric named Lena flees the bandit hideout with the aid of Julian, a former member of said bandits. Lena joins with a warp staff and uses it to instantly teleport Marth to the final chapter where Medeus is defeated, thus saving his sister, reclaiming his pants, and bringing peace to all Archanaea.

The end.

Since I'd have to warn the majority of this topic for spamming and generally being stupid, I'm gonna shove this into Far from the Forest.

Marth's story:

Get invaded, run away, team up with another princess, get everything back, then immediately takes a backseat because the avatar's more important, yo.

Okay, here’s an actual summary because no one’s posted one and because I like Marth’s story a lot, even though it’s pretty simple. I tried to be brief while still hitting the high points, but it's still a little long. I bolded the important names.

The TL;DR is basically every other post so far, they’re all correct. Enjoy:

Spoiler

In Part 1, Marth, the prince of Altea, is forced to flee his home when it is betrayed by an allied kingdom and invaded by several nations led by a Dragon man (the Shadow Dragon, Medeus) who wishes to enslave humanity. Marth takes refuge on the island of Talys with a small platoon of knights and grows up.

He eventually leaves the island to retake the continent and defeat the Shadow Dragon, since he’s the only one who can wield the sword Falchion (the only weapon that can defeat Medeus). He brings his knights, some mercenaries from Talys, and the Princess of Talys (Caeda) who is also his love interest.

Marth and Caeda are apparently very charismatic and regularly recruit new faces to help save the continent. These include thieves, sell swords, nobles, clergymen, and more. The most important ones are these:

  • Merric, Marth’s childhood BFF and future brother-in-law, he is important because he is the mage who gets the tome able to defeat the sorcerer Gharnef, who revived the Shadow Dragon and started the whole mess
  • The Prince of Aurelis, Hardin, who becomes one of Marth’s “closest friends” (supposedly, it’s not really on screen, but you’re supposed to assume it)
  • The Princess of Macedon, Minerva, her brother, Michalis, killed their father and took their younger sister hostage to force Minerva to fight for her country, but she joins Marth after he rescues her sister
  • The Princess of Archanea, Nyna, as the princess of the largest country (same name as the continent) she is also in charge of the Fire Emblem, a special shield, and gives it to Marth as a symbol

There are lots of other neat folks like Jake, Barst, Navarre, Linde, but they’re less plot relevant, moving on

With the Fire Emblem in hand, Marth retakes Archanea, then returns home to liberate Altea. Then he runs a few errands, such as rescuing the Progenitor Dragon Loli, Tiki from Gharnef, and making sure he’s got some orbs that are actually not that important until Part 2

Then he heads on down to finish the war, pitting him against Camus, leader of the Sable Knights of Grust who was romantically involved with Princess Nyna and helped her escape after Archanea fell. Although Nyna loves him and he loves her, he refuses to betray his country, which is under Medeus’s control, and he is “killed in battle” (yeah right)

Finally, Marth’s army fights Minerva’s brother, Michalis, Merric defeats Gharnef, and with the Fire Emblem and the Falchion, Marth finishes the Shadow Dragon. He proposes to Caeda and that’s that.

In Part 2, several years have passed (like 3 probably). During that time, the people of Archanea want Princess Nyna to marry, and because she knows Marth is in love with Caeda, there is only one other eligible noble bachelor out there: Hardin, Marth’s “good friend.” Hardin becomes the emperor of Archanea and is super happy all the time. Then he finds out his wife doesn’t love him, (she is still in love with/in mourning for General Camus) and he’s bummed out 😞 As it turns out, he’s been a little jealous of Marth all along, since Nyna gave him the Fire Emblem and Marth also got credit for defeating the Shadow Dragon, and is hailed as the hero of Archanea. He gets depressed.

Meanwhile, Marth is still engaged, and gets word from Hardin that he needs to go do some clean up around the nations that were allied with Medeus. He says, “okay, after all Hardin is my good friend, so I’ll go do that.” He goes and does that, but he becomes very uncomfortable as he realizes that the people Hardin have put in charge are abusing their power and mistreating the citizens of these nations.

Marth decides to chat with Hardin and work things out over tea, but Hardin says I HATE YOU, and as the Emperor of Archanea, declares war on Altea. Marth receives the Fire Emblem from Princess Nyna in the mail implying that something grave has happened and she’s in trouble, but Marth has no way to communicate with her.

As Marth is chased around the continent by Hardin’s army, he starts to round up the old posse. Princess Minerva joins him and so does a man named Sirius (who is DEFINITELY NOT Camus). He learns that a couple of important clerics have gone missing, including Marth’s sister and Minerva’s sister. He finds the friendly dragons again, grabs the Falchion back, and collects some of the orbs that weren’t so important in the last part. Those orbs are actually a part of the Fire Emblem.

Now the gang heads back and starts reconquering. They rescue Altea, then head down to Gra and recruit the Princess of Gra, Sheena. They finally battle Hardin, who was possessed by one of orbs Marth needs for the Fire Emblem. The orb was given to him by Gharnef (big surprise) and Hardin dies.

Finally they fight their way to the Dragon’s Table where Gharnef is reviving Medeus and a bunch of other crazy dragons. Marth and co defeat Gharnef and find the missing clerics possessed and guarding Medeus. Nyna is one of these clerics. With help from loved ones, the clerics are woken from their possession and Marth defeats the Shadow Dragon actually forever this time.

Marth gets married and the situation on the continent goes like this:

  • Princess Nyna of Archanea realizes that Sirius is Camus and is still alive, but he refuses to admit it because of nonsense from Gaiden/Shadows of Valentia. He disappears and she decides to go look for him. She abdicates the throne of Archanea to Marth.
  • Princess Minerva of Macedon never wanted to rule and ended up with a rebellion on her hands when she tried, so wishing to live out a quiet life with her sister, she abdicates the throne of Macedon to Marth.
  • Prince Hardin of Aurelis is dead and his older brother, the king, cedes control of Aurelis to Marth because he is old and has no heir.
  • Princess Sheena of Gra realizes that her nation and Altea were once one nation, and in order to restore peace and atone for their repeated betrayals, she abdicates the throne of Gra to Marth.
  • The Prince and Princess of Grust, who Marth rescued early in Part 2, are underage and both have interests they wish to pursue outside of being royalty, so they abdicate the throne of Grust to Marth.
  • Dolhr? I hardly know her!
  • Dolhr basically doesn’t exist anymore because I guess the cultists are gone?

And so, Marth becomes the sole ruler over all of the continent of Archanea and is dubbed the Hero-King.

The End.
