Well I was trying to make a joke about how Kaga just loves putting ballistas everywhere but you're right, Shocktroopers everywhere would also not let you play the game. In any case, VC4 Ch.5 was filler but I'll let it slide, Ch.4 was a three-parter. So, the Russian Winter can't do much of anything to those already used to the cold. Not to mention, things like frozen rivers just made it for the Mongol hordes easier to pass through. The boss of the chapter: "lol". See, I knew about this from @Shrimperor but I didn't know the context. I thought Charging through the Flames would be like, a later map gimmick. And I know I personally wouldn't have introduced it on the chapter that introduces fire hazards. Anyways the big brain strat is to reload a turn, avoid killing one enemy so that you can set your units just right so that when you trigger the real part of the mission, you're ready. Some battles are poorly designed, for sure. Endgame that's ok, but early game is supposed to ease you into playing! Sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's worse as it is right now. At least it has become a bit better since I took a walk. Weather is at least good again (clean air) to take some heavy breaths.
