Any Tales of series fans here know whether or not the older games have any value in playing?

Gameplay, Story, stuff like that.

Tales of Phantasia is a classic, and it along with Symphonia does racism better than Path of Radiance. Tales of the Abyss has the best story of the series imo, and the protagonist with the most development. I only finished 4 or 5 games, however.

I just got this ad from YouTube... I can’t even describe my reaction, I mean I literally just got marketed to invest in propaganda for children, he didn’t even try to hide it... A cartoon and books about why socialism is bad and capitalism is amazing to teach children “the values of freedom”, I mean... what?

While looking for that ad I found another video, and... “If you want a free thinker, you’re gonna need something that teaches about freedom.” I’m just gonna leave that there.

Oh, YouTube gods...

Any perfect square? Couldn’t you just do 1 x 836?

If not, it’s divisible by four. 4 x 209 = 836.

That is what i was looking for. Probably should've specificed greatest perfect square.

Doesn't matter tho, i did the "show me how to do this" button and now i have to solve a brand new problem in exchange.

Math is cringe.

Ohhhh. Well, I got lucky with that answer then.

Do you know your perfect squares up that high? If so you can just divide whatever number you’re given by them until you get a whole number.

Indeed.

I'd say, for problems like that I find it best to divide the number into its dividing numbers then work from there.

What a successful storming of the capitol ends up as:

But these are the 19th century Republicans, so it's okay... apparently...

And THIS is what happens in this mod when changing the party after elections:

The Liberals finally won. So, I brought back the Reactionary party back in charge. At this point, the consequences of this event are negligible. I'll finish building factories, then I'll let the Liberals in peace come next election. Unless the Socialists have sprung by then.

Meanwhile, I keep placating them with Political reforms...

There may be faster ways, but I think the most thorough and reliable way is to just prime factorize the whole thing. There are some tricks to helping with that, seeing an even number means its divisible by two, if all of the digit sum to a number divisible by 3 (you can repeat this if you still have a big number...) its divisible by 3, if it ends in 5 or 0 its divisible by 5. 11 has some tricks for two digit number (repeated numbers), and three digit numbers (sum the out two digits, if its greater than 10 subtract 11, if that is the middle number its divisible by 11). After doing all the easy factoring then start number chugging with other prime numbers on the part of it you are still factorizing, but note you NEVER have to check a number whose square is bigger than the number you are checking.

836 Even, so=> 2*418 Even again, so=> 2*2*209 => Outer two sum to 11, which is >10, so 0 which is the middle number, so => 2*2*11*19

From that we can see its 2*2 and 11*19, or 4*209...

Okay, I checked the files and, no, the ACW is still on schedule, I think. The remaining events (John Brown and Dred Scott) have yet to trigger, but the requirements seem to elude the USA so far. The current year in my game is 1859. I'm expecting the war will happen sooner or later, but it might not be on schedule of 1861...

I've played Symphonia and Abyss already, haha. But how does Phantasia play?

I'd say, if it's to try Phantasia, PSX version is the best. Or the PSP one, but that one doesn't have a fan translation I believe. Also, avoid the crack-ish fan translation, but that one was for the SNES version so no worries there if you go PSX.

Phantasia is purely 2D and it has random encounters so no picking your battles like you can in newer Tales.

Whose idea was it to make you fight a slightly weaker version of Orochi right after besting it the first time? Thank goodness for the autosave feature, I went to heal up after realizing my error.

The battle wouldn't have been as nasty had I Kabuff to mitigate the physical attacks and thus leave the fire breath as its sole source of hefty damage. This seems to be the point in the game where, like the Marquis de Leon in DQIV, you greatly from Kabuff use from thereon out.  But I still haven't gone and replaced someone with a Mage/Sage. My Thief is my best character overall, but her sole weakness, an absence of Str and good weapons, is making me consider bumping her off instead of my Martial Artist.

*Reads exactly what vocation-changing does*

Retain half my stats? Fine, Thief to Sage it is, that is the fastest option, minimizing the grind I need. I think my Thief has more MP than my Priest. The sole Words of Wisdom I shall offer up to her.

Relocated?? They disappeared off the face of the Earth! Thank goodness for old saves...

Oh. That sounds like a glitch. I've never had that happen.

Phantasia, as the first Tales ever and created for the Super Famicom, feels understandably dated in gameplay. Most spells will freeze until their animations are over, and Cress is the only frontliner for the vast majority of the game.

Avoid the GBA version, it's the lone officially translated one, but I think you can count the frame rate in battle sometimes.

I'd like to taste-test more early Tales myself for the sake of it, I just don't have means for it ATM.

I think i'm gonna need a visual guide. Simply explaining this through text isn't really helping, as much as i appreciate it.

Told you about the Mage/Sage, haha.

Do you have any fire-reducing damage? Though I think at that point the only option are Dragon Shields from Manoza.

That's certainly not a bad option, since you'll have a speedy Sage, thus setting off spells first most of the time. So far, best way to level up is through Metal Slimes in the Greenlad area.

Unironically looks better than the April Fools video from IS.

Me, I've been trying to dig out a plot for some plants. It's certainly difficult clearing out the weeds that took over the whole area to the root by hand that's for sure.
