..Not a great sign when I read the game goes up to Chapter 40.

Tbf, this game is a lot faster than Namco x Capcom. Due to a number of contributing factors but i can clear like three or four PxZ chapters in the amount of time it took me to do one NxC chapter.

I hear the main thing the game does is not overwhelm you with characters. Up until Ch.38, everyone's in different groups whereas NxC kept adding character after character after character.

It's really funny how sometimes there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to victory quote pairs so you end up getting funny combos like this.

I remember once coming across a Youtube channel that had the entire Brain Powerd series... in its Castilian dub. Started watching since, hey, Spanish is Spanish. Only made it to like Episode 06 before the channel was taken down, haha.

FE battles just seem so...dull and slow in comparison haha

Hey I have a game here, you might not know about it, but it's better than FE so you might like it, it's about a blonde sociopath who gets bamboozled a thousand times over, it's called Berwick Sa--

Great Shrimpy impressions tell me "try it you dolt."

Character designs tell me "yeah no."

...Then again, wasn't that what I thought about Conquest before...?

Of course, the lack of localizations for... Most games, it seems, is the biggest problem. I'm not as well-versed in the Google-fu arts as you are.

I think a Monolith Soft-directed Fire Emblem would do the thing Project X Zone does where the characters move around in their tile range as you lead them to their next target.

Kinda like that 3D perspective in Three Houses but you can actually see the map.

Not gonna lie, I would hope they just can that shit forever. It's one of the biggest reasons (if not the biggest reason) the game runs at 22 frames per second with constant drops and takes a while to load every single time. It has to keep the maps fully loaded at all times in case you decide to use the completely superfluous, useless mechanic of walking around the map. Not a good trade-off for something you'll use once, go "huh, neat" and then forget about entirely, in my opinion.

My reaction was something more akin to "What's the point?". How do I plan my moves with this zoomed in?

Yeah, exactly. It is a pointless mechanic that is only good for taking the odd screenshot. Which, hey, fine by me, it might as well exist, it doesn't hurt anyone... If they programmed it better. Keeping a map fully loaded all the time is extremely taxing, most well-made games avoid it like the plague. Three Houses just doesn't, as far as I know, and that's why it runs like shit.

I mean, sure, FPS don't matter in a strategy game, but it's kind of a poor look when a AAA, second-party title in the latest Nintendo console looks like a Wii game and runs like it's on a potato laptop. I'm not even asking for buttery-smooth 1859237482375 FPS, but if you're going to implement a 30 FPS cap on your game, it's rather embarrassing that it still suffers from constant frame drops.

Mind, if you really want to complain about frame-rate.. the Super Nintendo PAL version of Clayfighter exists. I know it's made using stop motion, but could the game have any less frames?

Huh? But PoR and Radiant Dawn had 3D maps too, and those games have great performance.

PoR and RD have smartly designed 3D maps. If you compare them, the overworld map is much less detailed than the one that battles take place in. That's because they're not even the same map. It's why the transition to full animation battles leaves you on a black screen for a second: The overworld map is less detailed so that you can see it all at once without the performance suffering for it, and when a battle starts, the game loads a miniature, diorama-esque map that can afford to be much more detailed because the camera isn't going to move anywhere, so the only things you need to have on the map are the ones that the camera is going to see.

Three Houses does the dumbest thing and just keeps a fully detailed map loaded all the time. That causes the performance to tank. Well-made games don't do this. Even games with maps that you'd expect to be loaded all the time use tricks to unload all the parts that the player cannot see without them noticing. I'm no expert, so I cannot go into detail about this, but that's it in a nutshell.

tl;dr: Whether you love or hate Three Houses, it is undeniable that technically speaking, it's an extremely incompetently made game. It's not a big gamebreaking flaw or anything; again, FPS don't matter in strategy games. But you can really tell the lack of time and budget.

Haha

Actually remember how back then after i finished Berwick i was like "i can't play non-conquest FE for a while i want more Berwick?" for a while?

That's how i kinda feel about Yggdra atm, except that the series has 3 games, so i can keep playing for now haha.

While gameplay isn't as tightly designed as Berwick, the unique way it approaches gameplay is really fun imo.

The first game is officially localized, so you could give that a try using ppsspp.

Yup, definetly, there's no arguing that. If 3H was a real time or action game, you bet your ass it's gonna be hated alot more because in turn based games spaghetti code doesn't affect the experience much

See, I realise that about PoR/RD vs. 3DSFE (Mostly Fates/SoV) Vs. 3H where the maps are handled differently.

It's where for some reason 3H decided to have the actual maps fully available, or at least have the visuals far more similar between them. And on top of that due to how the gameplay works, loading segments of the map at a time might be unfeasible to implement. I actually don't hate it, but you need the hardware and your engine to be adequate for the job, especially the more resources are going to be spent because of increased graphical detail. It's certainly a bit much to be asking of the Switch I would argue.

Be ridiculous if the hypothetical Switch Pro was confirmed to be stronger and could actually work better with older titles now.

Again, when it starts feeling like the game might crash it can be an absolute panic button.

So yes I would argue that still matters.

(Though funnily I never saw a crash in battle.)

You say that.

I respond with Sun/Moon crashing frequently with double battles in rain.

In stupid news (NEO TWEWY spoilers I suppose):

Spoiler

Apparently Truck-kun is in video games now.

Except considering it's TWEWY it's power is just killing people instead of teleporting to other worlds.

Also, full VA work deconfirmed. A pity.

At least the gameplay does look good (The bears actually run like bears now), though concerns about Switch performance definitely exist. I might end up going with the PS4 version.

tbf, the author was basically forced to write the porn scenes as VNs used to not sell without them in japan back then. When you write something you don't want....

The whole fanbase memes it because they are super bad, and the remaster, when the series became popular, retconned them out of existence (mostly for the better, except in the 3rd route because that one is inherntly sexual).

What i am saying is, don't judge a character in a scene the author was basically forced to write (hence OOC), and were thankfully retconned

Not as good as the original, but this is some good stuff, still!

Though for Hopeless Masquerade (the game the above is from), the theme they gave to Reimu is the clear winner.

My 3DSXL crashed repeatedly. I shudder to think what US/UM would have done.

The New 2DSXL hasn't but it was shocking seeing Pokemon of all games have it happen during regular gameplay, no bugging.

I thought some gross ass fan wrote it. Would be unsurprised.

Now I just want to ask if he did so due to another person putting pressure or if he was on his own, looked at the market and went "Sex sells I suppose". And am still grossed out.

It was literally the market at that time (2004, in japan), no H-scenes = No money.

He did come out and say many times he hates writing porn, but had to due to industry.

The other H-scenes have iconic phrases such as ''educated prositute'' and ''mollucks'' 😂

They are awful, and even the most hardcore of fans will say they at most laugh at how bad the scenes are

Did my second part of my KHIII stream yesterday.

Aside of having my first deaths, two things were noticable:

  1. I watched more than I played.
  2. I didn't expect it had space shooter sections like StarFox.

I have to admit remembering all moves is not that easy since Sora has A LOT of them.

Ah the gummi ship... i've never enjoyed the gummi ship in any KH game.

Wait... what do you mean, remember his moves? do you mean his comboes?

I was wanting to confirm if he was being pressured directly, rather than market forces.

Yeah, wish I could see the humour.

Nowhere near as buggy, more so poor optimisation, use or resources, lots of extraneous code and ways of programming that add more than was needed.

Doesn't help that the gameplay itself is slower. And not because of slow HP bars.

In general. GameFreak sucks at this stuff.

Pokémon games have no business lagging to hell and back when the 3DS can handle Warriors games just fine.
They have no business looking like indie games (and honestly, those look one hell of a lot better, because they at least those indie games aren't completely lifeless) when they are the most profitable media franchise of all time, and when the same consoles they're on contain games that have worlds that don't feel/look sterile as Pokémon's worlds do. And those games tend to run a lot smoother than most mainline Pokémon games do. I wouldn't harp on the graphics aspect so much if this wasn't the case.

I used to love Pokémon back in the day, but even back then, the mainline series felt downright amateurish when compared even to its own spin-offs. And the second I tried other games was the moment I basically said goodbye to it.

More market forces i think, although i do remember reading sometime that those close to him ''advised'' him to write H-scenes because of the market.

As i said tho, the series thankfully left that part behind once it became succesful.

I didn't know that new age pokemon games had these issues, i never really thought about it. The only time i really notice slowdowns or hiccups is when the gameplay is supposed to be precise.
