Well, I'm in the middle (or more like 80% now, heh) of a Skyrim playthrough, currently doing the Dawnguard DLC.

Also writing a Shadows of Valentia fanfic.

I'm a tad frustrated with myself 'cause I haven't been working on my homework or my WYBO entry, even though I should be doin' both, but I'm OK otherwise! Finally getting some more shifts at work, at least.

Bleublanc establishes that he is the most evil Trails villain by making Class VII play Among Us. Truly sinister.

As for what else happened in Act 2 up to that point:

Spoiler

Surprisingly, Class VII actually contributes to the war effort, even if it is usually a byproduct of them trying to accomplish something else (i.e. saving Fiona and Angelica/Irina). Celdic and the Twin Dragons Bridge are freed from noble control and Marquis Rogner is now neutral, which is good.

Is Erebonia under the Noble Alliance a police state? They control the media and political dissenters are arrested with flimsy excuses, so...

It's nice to see Neithardt again, even if he can wipe out almost half of Valimar's health in one attack. Why does the Imperial Army even need us?

Previously I had the conspiracy theory that Instructor Thomas was part of the Black Workshop (which I now know made Lammy, Sammy, and the sniper rifles that Crow used in the previous game), but apparently he was just acting mysterious for fun.

It's nice that Angelica joined the party in Roer again, even if I don't think she'll be available for the rest of Act 2. That sister outfit looks pretty good on her, I will admit.

I thought Sharon "running errands for Chairman Irina" was just an excuse to get her out of the party, but it turns out she was working on her own rescue mission all along. Sadly she's staying in Roer, so she won't be joining us for the rest of the act.

Rean is depressed after being unable to save you-know-who, because he's a good boy that way.

Linde and Vivi are reunited, all is right in the world. Every ship needs more than one sexiness officer.

Towa with her hair loose, oof my heart...

I'm guessing Valimar's previous pilot was probably Emperor Dreichels. Since Dreichels was basically a Fire Emblem protagonist, does that mean we'll get Mecha Emblem in the future?

We properly meet Professor G. Schmidt, the second disciple of Professor Epstein mentioned in Sky the 3rd and the previous game. He researches what interests him and doesn't care what his inventions are used for, which is the impression I got from him when I learned he developed the Soldats, which were inspired by Ordine and Ouroboros's technology. Nonetheless he is helping us now... probably.

The next part of the game is about finding enough Zemurian ore from the shrines to make a weapon for Valimar. Personally I thought each of the shrines would have a Divine Knight in them, but this also makes sense. The alternative would be to find a whole library's worth of rare books to trade for the ore, and we obviously can't do that in one game.

Hmmm. Does sound similar. Looked it up and it's not the same VA tho.

Fortunately you can check the VAs in-game. But Bayonetta might have a new VA in Bayonetta 3, so who knows what will happen with that.

Having recruited Alexandria now, if anyone did get her as soon as possible then Chapters 3 and 4 would be a cakewalk. So you could either grind for 20 hours and get Lexy early, or play the game normally for 20 hours and go back for her.

Oops... If I did, I was not correct. LJ will not ruin LAD in my opinion, but it's definitely better if you play LJ afterwards instead. Unfortunately, the allusion to the spoiler's also right in the first, like, 15 minutes of the game too.

Gentlemanly old man who isn't evil and doesn't die in a JRPG?

Rowen-Cut-in-To-X.pngRowen-Cut-in-To-X2-2.png

Rowen from Tales of Xillia, and his redesign in the direct sequel Tales of Xillia 2. Age 62, he was once a general known as "Ilbert the Conductor" for the way he brilliantly ordered troops on the battlefield. He retired, buried his reputation, and became a butler instead, until the events of Xillia 1 forced him out of it. Gameplay-wise, he is the dedicated offensive mage of the six heroes.

Flipping through all my Tales memories, he is basically the only playable old man this long JRPG franchise (Xillia was the 13th mainline installment- "XIII"ia, it's now up to 16 entries) has ever had.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Well I mean, if he's the only one in a whole series, that's godawful, but hey. Small victories.

I seem to remember you sharing at least the one with the mace before. Other one looks kinda like an old Camus with Hauteclere instead of Gradivus. And a suitcase, for some reason. What's this game again? I'm thinking the one gacha with the cats you've shared occassionally... Another Eden, was it?

Yes, Another Eden. And yeah, it's a F2P with Gacha... but it honestly plays more like a regular JRPG with a gacha system tucked in.

  1. Phantasia

  3. Eternia

  5. Symphonia
  6. Rebirth
  7. Legendia
  8. Abyss
    1. Tales of the Tempest released in 2006, the year after Abyss and before Innocence, should be Tales 9. Except Namco decided to invent the term "escort" to describe Tales spinoffs and relegated Tempest to that category. Tempest (Japan-only BTW) was so badly received that it might have been downgraded from "mothership" status for no reason other than being a bad game.
    2. Oddly, Symphonia's sequel is considered escort, but Xillia 2 is mothership? Which means Arise is actually Tales 17. I mean yeah, Dawn of the New World has a lot of recycling of locations and doesn't feel like a full-budget Tales, and I haven't played Xillia 2 either, but something feels wrong here, like there should be a universal rule for direct sequels.
  9. Innocence
  10. Vesperia
  11. Hearts
  12. Graces
  13. Xillia

Unlike a certain other JRPG franchise's thirteenth installment, Xillia wasn't badly received. Not usually regarded as the greatest Tales by any means, yet not a disgrace upon the franchise either. Milla, as the first female Tales main protagonist (although unlike Berseria's Velvet, she has to split the spotlight with a guy), seems quite popular, and I do love the concept behind her, as well as her characterization. If only there was a mod that turned her into "Milo" and left Jude's well-handled attraction untouched. That would be 👌.

Good luck with that! May Persona 2's second half not disappoint nor retroactively ruin the first for you!

And if you intend to start with Persona 1, sweet mercy upon thee! (Don't forget the Snow Queen Quest either.)

Same. The way I've heard it described, FE1 sounds like virtual osteoporosis to me. And yet you really haven't expressed frustration at this dried up relic, even though IIRC your option of No-Wrys Emblem is rather low, and that's a little younger.

Welcome to the best part of SF. A completely sane and relaxed general chat topic of madness. We all have our interests and whatnot here, and we freely muse about them without ripping each other limb from limb as you will often find elsewhere on the interwebs, all petty insults are meant in good humor here.

For reasons beyond my understanding, Jeorge is not called George. He's called Georges. He's multiple people.

FLafk9p2_o.png

It's also just long enough that the "unit took EXP" text can't fit in one line, leading to the dot being down there, all bad and ugly.

This translation is the gift that keeps on giving, I swear. Between the Ye Olde Spanish that among other things absolutely refuses to use the regular "but" everyone uses nowadays, "pero", and instead opts for the medieval "mas" ("more" is "más". Notice the difference?); the hilarious redneck speech pattern for some characters, the sheer boldness and elitism of the name translations, goddess icons being named "efig. iñosa", iñosa not being a word that exists as far as I can tell; the manual translation which is 100% unironically awesome... this is just wonderful. Half the reason I'm enjoying FE1 is this absolute masterpiece of a translation. I gotta make a fireemblemwod account and thank the guy if I manage to finish the game.

Fuck IntSys's official localization. They can keep it for all I care. This is the real way to play this game.

Little frustration as of yet. I don't know if I can go "this is better and I recommend it to everyone over the other one" but if I were to speak purely about my personal experience so far... Sure, FE3 has a horrible UI while FE1 has no UI, but with the manual in hand... Honestly, call me mad, but I prefer it.

Switching over to the manual and looking for the right weapon so I can read the statistics feels right somehow, and doing the maths isn't as obnoxious as trying to decipher FE3's terribly disorganized battle forecasts, not to mention I save myself a number of extra clicks - which are appreciated when the forecast is actually good, but in FE3 it just gets in the way.

Plus, the game is more challenging than FE3 book 1. FE3 book 1 was a completely mindless slog until I dropped it. In this one, however, there are a number of scary enemy classes, and player HP and defense are low in general, enough that I don't dare to just throw them at enemies - in fact, when I tried that with Jeigan yesterday night, assuming he'd be powerful enough, he just died because his lance got him doubled. It's not Conquest or anything, but it's important to be alert, which is enough to make it more fun than Book 1 ever was.

Then there's the game speed. Yeah, this game is slow, no two ways around it. It's not any slower than FE3 book 1 though. They're equally slow, I'd say. With emulator speed-up, this isn't a problem for either of them, but still. Not even this is something book 1 can claim. It's more of a problem for PoR, merely because Dolphin is a more taxing emulator and speed-up requires a beefier computer to be truly effective - not the case when I first played it, unfortunately. I know it's unfair to hold this against it.

And of course, Riff is here. That helps lololololol

A group of pirates has massacred Julian. I don't know what the avoid formula is in this game, but it has to be extremely low, because he was very fast and yet every one of these dumb handaxe pirates had hitrates against him.

Welp. Guess it's Ricardo time, then. And also Rena is fucked come Book 2. Oof. Book 2 not canon to the FE1 continuity?

...How did the Grand Duchy of Lithuania get to be so big? Whatever happened to the Commonwealth?

The plan is late French reformation  There's one France achievement that I haven't gotten yet, which requires spreading La Révolution to ten countries. But playing a whole campaign as France from 1444 until the Age of Revolution (1710) is a bit of a slog, since you're probably the strongest in the world by 1500 (maybe sans China, but the Ming tend to mingsplode at some point) and without a challenger by 1600. So instead, I started as ya boie Savoie, who has an easy (and unique to them) option to either swap to French culture or remain Piedmonese.

For now, Old France is my dear friend, though. They got a di Savoie on their throne, so I hope I get an opportunity to claim their throne some time during the 16th century, but for now, they're being helpful. You might have noticed some big and scary Ottomans to my east, and I plan to have France help me out a bit with that. I have around 50k troops right now, France is at 70k-ish, Mr. Otto Man is somewhere between 130k and 140k. All that said, Italian unification is still on the menu, just without a "Form Italy" button to press. I can get a Claim Throne casus belli on Naples whenever I want and I'm just waiting for my current ruler to die first, since personal unions break free upon ruler death if they don't like you enough.

Avignon fell to Provence at some point and I'm not quite sure why. Very helpful because the Pope was another earlygame friend because it's quite annoying if you're catholic and he isn't. I swapped to Protestantism though, partly because most of the bonuses from Catholicism basically go kaputt when you go revolutionary, and partly so that I can conquer Rome without penalties :].

Lithuania starts (almost) that big  In fact, the Ottos conquered a handful of their southernmost provinces. I believe they're still under a Polish personal union (which is scripted to form most of the time very early in the game), but they haven't quite reached the necessary tech to click the "unite the PLC" button in order to fully integrate Lithuania. Shouldn't be too long, though - it's the same tech that I needed for the Toothpaste button.
