Man I remember when I had a math module as part of my first year in college, there was a serious screwing of the pooch in terms of how engaged we were to be honest and those theorems and more complicated equations clearly must have bothered some of us more than others despite it being a class of biological science students.

Then the module co-ordinator did a tutorial with us near the end of the year and caused a minor scandal when he flipped at us.

Observer gave you the rundown but he did not mention the second main character, who has a completely different playstyle than the titular Gunvolt. Copen is essentially a racist in the main timeline Mega Man-like fighter who copies the abilities of defeated fighters. His method of tagging enemies involves dashing into them, upon which his shots will lock-on.

As a result, he schmoves.

Right. Well, I won't get it, but I wish those who do the best fun.

As facepalms as Fates is, it never went ''save a girl and land on her chest, get slapped in the face and spend 3 FUCKING CHAPTERS on eggshells'' type of Facepalm

Writing tier below fates i tell ya

Well, it certainly sounds like something I would love.

I prefer "teleport with a girl, watch her land butt-first on your face b/c warp-coordinates error".😛

Which sounds like a blend of MMX's simple, but surprisingly meaningful addition of a dash move (no damage) to the repertoire of basic techniques. And, also Mighty Number 9's dash mechanic.

Although I'm not sure I'd get full enjoyment from the Gunvolt series, the dash technique does sound like a good way to weave a close-range aspect into a character focused on shooting things. Now where is the close-range specialist?

Despite the overall linearity, the way it treats progression is much more closer to Metroid, which is very refreshing given the genre is dominated by the Castlevania-leaning Metroidvanias.

Honestly I don't play enough Metroidvanias to identify how the genre leans, all I know is that nowadays is that genre is not lacking for good to substandard titles. Though I do think they're better off, like Metroid, without the RPG aspects, Metroidvanias are ideally too short to need them.

Volcens: unironically a good example of strongman rulership while being in a weak position.

I'd call it anything but powerful, but he'd take it as a compliment because I clearly don't get how he do.

I handed in a french paper that had a whole bunch of puns and really weird lines, I don'tthink they're going to stay up.

I am very proud, though! It would be huge for me if I could pull my academics together now that it goes to university.

It's bit of a bummer that I couldn't fit the game development class into my schedule, though. I hope it runs again next year...

Nice.

At least in my college, i find it incredibly wild how math is held to a higher standard than everything else. In other subjects, pretty much every test was open book/notes but when it comes to math? Nope, no resources allowed.

Math is also the only subject that requires you to get a C or higher whereas any other subject will let you get away with a D (barring like, honor classes and shit).

Kirin in Gunvolt 3. She wields a sword though she does have a long-range option with her talismans (which is how she tags). Though with the game still a ways off, we haven't seen the full range of her capabilities.

Copen's also getting a new melee option in iX 2.

Most of our examinations were no notes. I hated ones where all the marks were for essays, I was never able to muster up the work for them to be honest.

What does that even mean? I'm enjoying your recommendation! It had a strong start instead of taking 50 hours to go anywhere, and that's all it took!

It's not about my recommendation particularly. I just used the quote and a gif of the best part of Jojo to express the point.

That is a good philosophy to practice in many facets of life... But I don't think entertainment is one of them.

Videogames are a form of entertainment. Why should I commit 20, 30, 40 hours of my life to a game that fails to perform its most basic duty of entertaining me? Might as well spend that time staring at a wall. Plus, the concept of gameplay loops ensures if I've spent a few hours on a game and I cannot find any enjoyment in it, I probably never will.

Much more optimal to seek other, more fun and engaging games than keep forcing myself through an unenjoyable experience on the off chance that it will magically get better after dozens of hours. That is my humble opinion.

Agree to disagree then. I had my fair share of fun in works that start slowly, like in RPG games that only get fun when you experiment with builds, practically at the end of the game. This can also be applied to movies, series, anime, etc. Mentioning Jojo again: part 7 is widely considered the best, it's in my top 3 best written manga ever, and the plot only gets going on by chapter 30, almost 1/3 in (the manga has 95 chapters). Some works need time, slowly letting the roots firm, creating a strong base.

I just believe that this quest for instant gratification is one of the problems of today's society. It pisses me off that people give up on something so easy. Imagine thinking something is bad after having only seen 1% of what the work offers.

Well, I would argue the "strong base" point is rendered moot if said "strong base" is so feeble that it fails to hold my interest whatsoever. Contradictory as it may seem, I do think it's okay for a game to be slow (Omori is slow, Great Ace Attorney is super fucking slow, Berwick Saga takes a while to really get going too, I mean Christ one of my favorite games ever is frigging Papers Please where you just spent the entire playtime doing paperwork), but it needs to be a good sort of slow. A slow that is appropriate, or that builds up interest for what is to come, that sets future events up, that hints at excitement to be had. It can't just be insufferably boring for 30 hours and then excuse itself by saying "no no I was almost getting ready to become good, give me another 10 hours and then I swear it's gonna be worth it."

Also, what's the guarantee that the thing is ever going to get good? Yes, I'll give you that it's possible to miss out on some gems due to a poor first impression. It's not foolproof. But at the same time, I'll also miss out on other gems if I waste 30-40 hours of my life on something that's no good at all instead of moving on to other things that might actually be worth the time and attention after the first game has proven time and time again that it's not my cup of tea. I'm not saying I give each game exactly five minutes to prove itself, but there comes a point where I just can't help but lose interest for one reason or another, maybe some other game will grab my interest, and I'll just not have the motivation to keep going.

As an example, I dropped Path of Radiance in chapter 21. That's well over half the game. What, should I have forced myself to waste more hours away in boredom, pushing through to the finale because "maybe it gets good in the final two hours"? Yeah, agree to disagree it is. Again, your point is very valid and should be taken into consideration... in matters more important than how one spends one's idle hours.

That's a bit extreme, considering the topic we're discussing. It's not like I'm giving up on finding the cure for cancer. Time's a limited resource. Free time, more so. At some point I have to cut my losses. It's not like I give up on every single game I play, either. Heck, quite the opposite, I'd say I give up on way less games than I see through to the end. Partly because I only start games that truly pique my interest, I don't just grab them at random from the pile and see what happens. For the most part.

...Whew. That got long. So yeah, tl;dr: As you said, agree to disagree.

One of my fav. staves in the game tbh

allows you to switch places with any ally unit. Something i have wanted to see in FE for a long time now.

Sure i only used it one time so far, but the one time i used it it saved my ass

Staff variety in this game is A+ tho
