What's your opinion on gambling in video games?

but the loot box angle definitely raises some concerns.

Is it really gambling when you're not really risking anything? Technically, a loot box can be set up to always give out something. Sure, it's usually something that you don't want;  but it's something that can be used, regardless. But the real issue is getting to the point where you're dumping a lot of actual money for something that you might not even get with the amount that you paid for.

Well if you wanted to classify it as gambling it’d be lottery but I see your point as well.

I'm fine with gacha games as long as spending real money on them doesn't feel too forced. In my case, the only gacha game I have played so far is  FEH and I haven't spent a cent on it,  mostly because I consider that FEH has rates that allow you to pull 5 stars without being in need of buying orbs. However, I do think that gambling in video games should be regulated to kids as they might get addicted to it. I 100% prefer video games where yo directly buy the desired item over the ones with loot boxes.

gambling with in-game minigames isn't a problem at all, for me

gambling with lootboxes and anything which requires actual money, though, i quite hate that

I wouldn't even call Gatcha games gambling, as there's no potential for monetary reward. It's just plain extortion. But even putting aside the real mo at aspect, gambling in video games usually just plain isn't fun. Though maybe that's because I don't have an inclination for gambling in general. I like to play poker for the actual game aspect of it (which for that very reason is why I wouldn't play a video game version) aspect, but stuff like slots and in game currency, that's just the game randomly telling me if I win or lose, or testing how well I can press the A button a single time. It's just plain not fun. I'd always just buy the coins for the prize in pokmon games back when the slots were a staple of it.

Significant observations, bro. I've been addicted to poker for many months and so lost focus on sports betting. I think it's an excellent opportunity for beginners to grab a big score because that chance might not happen again. Since I focus on poker, you can find the very bonuses on that help newbies develop their account right away and be able to show good gambling skills. This is precisely what I'm going for because I understand how lucrative this business can be. This idea can be very profitable if you can choose the right strategy. I have such a strategy.

Yeah, but you're also a spam bot.

An bhfuil tú abalta ag labhair as Béarla?

I hate it. Luck-based minigames at best turn into tedious grindfests where you do the same thing over and over and end up save-scumming to get your desired results anyway (thereby basically rigging it). Examples being the Game Corner in Pokemon and the Tolbi Slots in Golden Sun. At worst, you have gacha games designed to encourage dumping dozens if not hundreds of dollars' worth of real-world currency just to get the ultra-rare character or weapon you want, with the metagame often being disgustingly imbalanced and unable to be fixed for fear of lawsuits.

About the only time I enjoy luck-based outcomes is when it's basically a free gift, like a daily login reward or the old Mystery Gift service Pokemon Stadium 2 offered back on the N64. And since that doesn't entail any actual personal risk on your part, it's not really an example of gambling in the first place.

Dude, it's either them making their own threads or we could use this thread as an honeypot so it doesn't they won't clog up the "new threads" feed.

I don't think it necessarily works that way.

It's no secret that gambling is pretty controversial with video games (especially in the age of loot boxes). Opinions on the matter are usually negative once real life money gets involved. What's your opinion on this?

In my honest opinion, should be reduced to in-game currency, and ONLY in-game currency (and even then, it'd be best to avoid displaying it as a real-life slot machine).

Eh, I don't mind it resembling IRL Gambling, I loved the Gambling Mini-games in the Mario DS Games but have no desires to actually gamble IRL knowing how easily you can lose it all.

That said, Gambling with real money should never be a thing, it's absurd to me that the ESRB gets more mad about fictional gambling with fake money but when it's real money but it's not even a slot machine, that somehow makes it ok when honestly the second one is far worse.

As a Kid, even I saw how as the term I would know later goes, "The House always wins" with Mario, dressing it up sounds more insidious honestly, like disguising it as a more "Wholesome" thing.
